Yuma was still driving on the track, trying to find cards to boost his life points.
Yuma: I've gotta score some more life points before I reach a field or I'm toast.
Tori: Calm down Yuma.
Astral: Unfortunately, I do not see any spells or traps that would allow you to gain life points.
Yuma: Then I guess I'd better find someone to duel.
Yuma turned onto a track and looked down, seeing one of the duel fields beneath him.
Yuma: There.
He raced down to it, unaware there were already people inside.
Troy: It's time you suffer for what you did to my sister, Vetrix.
Vetrix: Aw, are you upset because your sister is gone? You really need to keep better track of your family, Troy. Ahahahahaha!
Troy: Grrr, I'll bury you!
Both: Let's duel!
Troy: 3400 LP
Vetrix: 4000 LP
Vetrix: Looks like someone lost a few life points.
Troy: I have more than enough to beat you into the dirt. I'm up first! I summon Mist Archfiend in attack mode!
Level 5/Dark/Fiend
ATK 2500/DEF 0
Troy: In case you're wondering how I summoned him without sacrificing a monster, it's because of his special ability. Of course, since I summoned him this way, he'll go to the graveyard during the end phase and I'll take 1000 points of damage, but I won't have to worry about that because now I play the equip spell Overlay Satellite! A monster equipped with this card counts as two when used to xyz summon, so I overlay my 2 level 5 Mist Archfiend! With these two monsters, I build the overlay network and xyz summon Number 14: Greedy Sarameya!
Rank 5/Dark/Beast
ATK 2500/DEF 1500
Vetrix: A number on your first turn?
Troy: Now the effect of Overlay Satellite activates, turning it into an overlay unit for the monster I just summoned. Next, I place four cards face-down and end my turn.
Vetrix: Alright, I draw!
Troy: And I reveal my face-down cards, the continuous traps Light of Intervention, Final Attack Orders, DNA Transplant, and Attribute Gravity.
Vetrix: What?
Troy: Let me explain. With Attribute Gravity, monsters in attack mode have to attack monsters with the same attribute as them. So any of your dark attribute monsters have to attack Sarameya.
Vetrix: But that effect only works on dark attribute monsters.
Troy: Which is where DNA Transplant comes in. When it's played, I choose an attribute, and while it's on the field, all monsters become that attribute, and I choose dark.
Vetrix: Then I'll just play my monster face-down!
Troy: Wrong again. Light of Intervention prevents us from setting monsters face-down, instead making us summon monsters in face-up defense mode.
Vetrix: But I can still summon monsters in defense mode.
Troy: You can try.
Vetrix: Huh?
Troy: Due to the effect of Final Attack Orders, while it's on the field, all monsters on the field are forced to remain in attack mode.
Vetrix: Which means if I summon a monster, it'll have to attack your monster, but if I don't summon a monster, I'll take 1000 points of damage from the field spell.
Troy: Which means you're trapped. This is for what you did to my sister.
Flashback
Troy: I'm just a freak! A monster, a curse!
Emma: No you're not! You shouldn't believe a word they say, because I know it's not true.
Troy: But I-
Emma: Troy, I want you to listen to me.
Troy: Okay.
Emma: What happened to mom and dad wasn't your fault, and neither is what happened at school. I don't know what's going on, but I promise I'll always be right here for you.
Emma then wrapped her arms around her brother and pulled him close.
End Flashback
Troy: She was all I had left, and you took her away from me!
Vetrix: So it's the love between siblings that motivates you? How boring.
Troy: Say what you want, but I'll wipe that smirk off your face soon enough. And then I'll wipe you off the face of the Earth!
Meanwhile, Yuma and the others arrived at the duel field and saw the coaster cars belonging to Troy, Vetrix, and Dextra.
Tori: Wait, someone else is already here?
Astral: Those cars belong to Troy, Vetrix, and Dextra.
Yuma: But where are they?
Tori: Look!
She pointed to the lake where Troy and Vetrix were dueling.
Yuma: Troy is dueling Vetrix? But where's Dextra?
Tori: She's over there!
She pointed behind Troy where Dextra was still unconscious against one of the trees.
Yuma: What happened to her?
Troy: She got in my way, so I eliminated her from the tournament.
Yuma: She was only trying to help you!
Troy: I don't need anyone's help. All I need is to make Vetrix suffer for what he did to my sister.
Vetrix: Hey Yuma! Look how much my life stinks! Troy has me in a deadly trap.
Yuma: What trap?
Astral: I see. Troy has set up a scenario where Vetrix has to engage his monster in battle every turn, or lose 1000 life points by not summoning a monster. A powerful formation indeed.
Vetrix: Yes, but not invincible. I summon Heraldic Beast Aberconway in attack mode!
Level 4/Wind-Dark/Dragon
ATK 1800/DEF 900
Troy: And due to my combo, it has to attack Greedy Sarameya.
Aberconway charged Troy's monster, but Sarameya opened its three mouths, shooting a stream of fire that completely enveloped Aberconway, destroying it.
Vetrix: 3300 LP
Vetrix: I place a card face-down and end my turn.
Troy: I draw. Now Greedy Sarameya, attack him directly with Ferocious Flame Dive!
Sarameya leapt into the air before cloaking itself in flames and diving into Vetrix, knocking him onto his back.
Vetrix: 800 LP
Troy: I end my turn, so since I didn't summon a monster, the field spell deals me 1000 points of damage.
Troy: 2400 LP
Vetrix: My move, I draw! And I summon Heraldic Beast Amphisbaena in attack mode.
Level 4/Wind-Dark/Dragon
ATK 1700/DEF 1100
Yuma: Since it only has 1700 attack points, once it attacks Troy's monster, Vetrix will lose!
Vetrix: Not quite. I activate the effect of Heraldic Beast Amphisbaena. By discarding my Heraldic Beast Basilisk, Amphisbaena gains 800 attack points.
Amphisbaena: 1700-2500 ATK
Tori: Now its attack points are the same as Troy's monster.
Troy: Except since Greedy Sarameya is a number, it can only be destroyed in battle with other numbers.
Sarameya shot a jet of flames at Amphisbaena, destroying it.
Troy: Now you've got nothing to protect you, and once my direct attack lands next turn, you'll lose this duel!
Vetrix: You're clinging to all those little memories you have of your sister, aren't you? I can't wait to see them. I play the spell Advanced Heraldry Art! This card lets me use Heraldic Beasts in my graveyard to xyz summon, so I overlay level four Heraldic Beast Aberconway and Amphisbaena! With these two monsters, I build the overlay network and xyz summon Number 8: Heraldic King Genom-Heritage!
Rank 4/Light-Dark/Psychic
ATK 2400/DEF 1800
Yuma: Vetrix has a number?
Vetrix: I end my turn.
Troy: My turn, I draw! Now Greedy Sarameya, attack Genom-Heritage!
Vetrix: A good try, but not good enough. I activate Genom-Heritage's special ability! By using one overlay unit, I can activate one of three effects.
Yuma: That doesn't sound good.
Vetrix: It's not, at least for Troy, because now the attack points of your monster become 0, and the attack of my Genom-Heritage becomes the same as your monster's original attack points!
Troy: What?!
Genom-Heritage's hair grew out and wrapped around Greedy Sarameya, draining its color. A bright light flashed from Genom-Heritage's mask and it changed into an exact copy of Sarameya with the exception of the mask on the center head.
Heritage: 2400-2500 ATK
Sarameya: 2500-0 ATK
Astral: Troy cannot stop his attack.
Yuma: Troy!
Troy: I play the spell Shrink! This will halve the attack power of your monster until the end of this turn!
Heritage: 2500-1250 ATK
Troy: 1150 LP
Tori: He made it.
Yuma: Yeah, but now he's got no monsters on his field, and if he doesn't summon one, he'll lose.
Astral: Yes, but now he has fallen prey to his own trap cards. Since Light of Intervention and Final Attack orders are still in play, if Troy summons a monster, it will be forced into attack mode.
Troy: I activate the spell Magic Planter! By sending Final Attack Orders to my graveyard, I can draw 2 cards from my deck.
Yuma: Alright, he stopped his combo and drew some more cards.
Troy: I summon Mystic Tomato in defense mode!
Level 4/Dark/Plant
ATK 1400/DEF 1100
Troy: I end my turn.
Vetrix: Sine you ended your turn, Genom-Heritage's attack points return to normal.
Genom: 2500-2400 ATK
Vetrix: My turn. I draw! Now Genom-Heritage, attack Mystic Tomato!
Vetrix's monster fired a beam of energy from its mask at Mystic Tomato, destroying it.
Troy: Thanks, because when Mystic Tomato is destroyed in battle, I can summon a dark attribute monster with 1500 or fewer attack points from my deck in attack mode, like my Great Maju Garzett!
Level 6/Dark/Fiend
ATK & DEF 0
Vetrix: Very well then. I summon Herladic Beast Berner's Falcon in defense mode.
Level 4/Wind-Dark/Winged Beast
ATK & DEF 1000
Vetrix: I end my turn. You'd better step up your game Troy, or you're going to end up just like your sister.
Troy: Shut it!
Vetrix: Although if she taught you how to duel, I don't know why I was expecting more than this.
Troy: That's it!
His eyes shone red and a black aura surrounded him.
Yuma: Troy?
Troy: It's my turn. You're going to regret saying that Vetrix.
Troy raised his hand, black energy coming off his hand as the top card of his deck glowed a deep red.
Yuma: What's happening?
Troy: Chaos Draw! First, I summon Majestic Mech - Ohka from my hand in attack mode. This monster can be summoned without a sacrifice, but it's sent to the graveyard during the end phase.
Level 6/Light/Fairy
ATK 2400/DEF 1400
Troy: And now I overlay my level 6 Ohka and Garzett! With these two monsters, I build the overlay network and xyz summon Number 21: Frozen Lady Justice!
Rank 6/Water-Dark/Aqua
ATK & DEF 500
Troy: This monster gains 1000 attack for each of its overlay units, so with 2, it gains 2000 attack points.
Justice: 500-2500 ATK
Yuma: Alright, he's got more attack than Vetrix's monster!
Astral: Maybe so, but if he attacks, Vetrix can activate his monster's effect, stealing all of its attack points.
Troy: Not once I play this. I activate Rank-Up-Magic Barian's Force! This card takes an Xyz monster on my field and turns into a Chaos Xyz monster one rank higher!
Vetrix: What?
Yuma: Troy can summon Chaos Xyz monsters?
Troy: This is the beginning of the end for you Vetrix! I build the overlay network using the rank 6 Frozen Lady Justice! With this one monster, I rebuild the overlay network. Go, Chaos Xyz Evolution! Barian power, born of Chaos, visit your judgment on this world of filth! Come forth, the harsh maiden with a heart of ice. Chaos Number 21: Absolute Zero Lady Executioner!
Rank 7/Water-Dark/Aqua
ATK & DEF 1000
Yuma: Troy summoned a Chaos Number?
Astral: Why does that Barian card seem familiar?
Troy felt his chest ache and dropped to his knee, clutching his heart again.
Yuma: Troy, what's wrong?
Troy: Not now. I have to defeat Vetrix. I have to win! Barian Force's other effect activates, transferring all of your monster's overlay units to Executioner, and then your monster loses 300 attack points for each overlay unit it lost. Go, Chaos Drain!
Heritage: 2400-2100 ATK
Vetrix: So you've summoned some fancy monster. It's still weaker than mine.
Troy: Maybe not. Due to her special ability, my Frozen Lady gains an extra 1000 attack and defense points for each of her overlay units.
Frozen Lady: 1000-5000 ATK/DEF
Tori: 5000 attack points?!
Troy: Now, destroy Vetrix and Genom-Heritage! Blizzard Lance!
His monster created a spear of solid ice in her hand before she launched it at Vetrix's monster.
Yuma: If this attack connects, Troy wins!
Vetrix: Well, you played better than your sister, but you've still come up short.
Troy: What?
Vetrix: I play the trap Heraldry Reverse! When your monster attacks my Xyz monster while my monster has no overlay units, your monster loses half its attack points.
Troy: But even with that effect, my monster is still stronger.
Vetrix: I'm not done. Due to Reverse's other effect, if your attacking monster is an Xyz monster, my monster gains 400 attack points for each of your monster's overlay units.
Troy: What?!
Heritage: 2100-3700 ATK
Frozen Lady: 5000-2500 ATK
Troy: Emma, I failed you.
A bright light flashed from Heritage and Frozen Lady's lance was deflected back at her, destroying her and sending Troy back against one of the trees.
Troy: 0 LP
Winner: Vetrix
Yuma: Troy!
He and Tori ran over to him.
Yuma: Troy, are you okay?
Troy: Yuma, stop Vetrix. Please, promise me.
Yuma: What? But I-
Troy: Please.
Yuma: Okay, I promise.
Troy: Thank you.
Vetrix: How very touching, but it's time to take my prize.
A beam of red energy came from Vetrix's mask and struck Troy in the chest, causing him to cry out in pain.
Yuma: What are you doing to him?
Vetrix: Taking his memories and his numbers. Don't worry Yuma, you'll be next.
The transfer ended and Troy dropped to his knees, a blank look on his face.
Yuma: Troy! Are you okay? Troy!
Vetrix: Farewell for now Yuma.
A portal opened up behind Vetrix and he left through it. As he left, Dextra came to.
Dextra: What happened?
Yuma: Dextra! Are you alright?
Dextra: Yeah, Troy just wrung my bell a little hard is all. Wait, where is he?
Tori: He lost to Vetrix. He fired a weird beam at him and now he's like this.
Dextra looked at Troy and saw what Tori was talking about.
Dextra: This is all my fault. I tried to stop him but I wasn't strong enough.
Yuma: It's not your fault Dextra. Vetrix is to blame for all of this, and I'm gonna stop him, no matter what it takes, because I never break a promise to a friend.
