The WDC Finals were still going on, and Kite was chasing after Quinton.
Quinton: You're eager Kite. Too eager.
Kite: I promise, this ends today. You won't escape from me Chris or Quinton, or whatever you call yourself now. Payback day is finally here.
Back in the spectator seats, the video feed was still out.
Bronk: What a bummer. I can't believe we still can't watch any of the duels that are happening.
Caswell: I hope they fix it quick.
Just then, Orbital launched himself from Heartland Tower, flying to the Duel Carnival.
Orbital: I'm so worried! My processors won't rest until I know if Master Kite is safe or not, but to catch up with him, I'll have to pour it on!
Meanwhile, Yuma was still trying to find a duel field so he could face somebody.
Yuma: I wonder where this crazy coaster is taking us?
Tori: Who knows? At this speed, everything is just a blur.
Yuma: I can't slow down until I get to a field for a one-on-one duel.
Astral: If you crash, you may not be able to have any duels.
Tori: What will happen if you rush into another trap Yuma?
As soon as she asked him the question, an explosion went off on the ceiling behind them.
Yuma: I guess something like that.
Just then, Orbital came spiraling through the air before he landed in their coaster car.
Orbital: T-t-t-this is not my d-d-day.
Yuma: Orbital?
Orbital: Yum-m-m-m-ma! Do you know where Master K-k-k-k-kite is?
Tori: Are you okay?
Orbital: That grouchy girl tagging along t-t-t-t-too?
Tori: Watch it, or I'll rearrange your wiring.
Orbital: Please don't do that. I have to go and fi-i-i-ind Master K-kite.
Yuma: So that's why you're here? There's something important that I have to talk to Kite about too. Let's track down Kite together then. Help me to locate him, okay Orbital?
Orbital: Right.
Meanwhile, Kite and Quinton had arrived at the space field and were preparing to duel.
Quinton: At last. I knew you and I would face each other in battle someday Kite. Ever since I learned the truth about your family and mine, I've been filled with the desire to get revenge. I swore than nothing would stop me from settling the score. Nothing Kite.
Kite: You're gonna regret what you did to Hart, I'll make sure of that.
Both: Now let's duel!
Quinton: 4000 LP
Kite: 4000 LP
Quinton: I'll go first, so I draw! And I summon Planet Pathfinder in attack mode!
Level 4/Earth/Machine
ATK & DEF 1000
Quinton: Next, I special summon Solar Wind Jammer! This monster's special ability allows me to special summon it by cutting its attack points in half.
Level 5/Light/Machine
ATK 800-400/DEF 2400
Quinton: And I'll upgrade my monsters by activating my Tannhauser Gate spell. This card makes the levels of both my monsters become equal to the sum of their current levels.
Pathfinder: Level 4-9
Wind Jammer: Level 5-9
Kite: I can guess what's coming next.
Quinton: I doubt it. I overlay level 9 Planet Pathfinder and Solar Wind Jammer in order to build the overlay network! Appear, Number 9! My burdensome fate, let the gigantic world capable of swallowing an entire galaxy descend right here and now. Dyson Sphere!
Kite: A number?
Kite looked around, but couldn't see Quinton's monster anywhere.
Kite: Where is your number, Quinton?
Quinton: You'll find that out soon enough. For now, since I xyz summoned, the effect of the space field activates, allowing me to draw a card. I'll place one card face-down and end my turn.
Kite: That number must be somewhere.
Quinton: It's your turn. You're looking a little worried Kite, what's wrong?
Kite: Nothing. I draw! I know that number is out there somewhere, but even if I can't see it, I have to try and take it down. I summon Photon Delta Wing in attack mode!
Level 4/Light/Machine
ATK 1800/DEF 900
Kite: Now attack Dyson Sphere with Photon Missile!
His monster fired two missiles straight ahead, but a vortex appeared, and they were sucked into it.
Quinton: That was useless. Your attack couldn't possibly do any damage.
Kite: How could that be?
Quinton: Wouldn't you like to know? Too bad this will be over before you have answers.
Kite: I end my turn.
Quinton: Very well. I draw! Now I'll attack your Photon Delta Wing with my Dyson Sphere!
A portal opened above them, and a barrage of energy blasts came out of it, ripping through Kite's monster.
Kite: 3000 LP
Kite: How did you do that Quinton?
Quinton: You wouldn't understand. Just accept that I have you hopelessly out matched and you're going to lose.
Just then Yuma, Tori, and Orbital arrived at the duel field.
Tori: Woah, our duel coaster is a space coaster now.
Astral: Of course this is all virtual, but it is quite realistic.
Orbital: I'm picking up a duel tab identification signal. It's definitely Master K-kite's.
Yuma: He must be on board that ship.
He steered towards it, but the car was going to fast.
Tori: You'd better slow down or we're going to make a crash landing.
Yuma: I know, but the controls aren't responding.
The car kept going and crashed onto the middle of the duel field, but fortunately no one got hurt.
Tori: Okay, next time I'm driving.
Orbital: M-m-master Kite! I'm so glad you're okay!
Yuma: Listen Kite, I have something important to tell you.
Kite: Really?
Yuma: Yeah. Troy and Dextra have gotten knocked out of the tournament, but Vetrix took Troy's numbers and his memories.
Kite: That's not my problem. Troy got in my way of beating Vetrix, and if he didn't win, that's his own fault.
Yuma: You can't mean that.
Tori: That's cold.
Yuma: How could you say that?! Wasn't Troy your friend?
Quinton: So it's Yuma Tsukomo, the son of Kazuma Tsukomo.
Yuma: It's you.
Quinton: It's fitting that the three of us are here now. Destiny has clearly brought us together.
Yuma: I want some answers from you. Tell me where my father is.
Quinton: Alright. Before Kite and I resume, I'll tell you everything I know about your father.
Kite: I want to duel now. You can share your story some other time. Are we gonna continue to battle or not?
Quinton: It can wait. The story that I'm about to tell concerns you as well. Perhaps it will help all of you understand my family's actions. Why we came here to compete in the Duel Carnival, why we targeted Hart, and the reason for that is that it is our revenge against his and Kite's father, Dr. Faker.
Yuma: What?! Dr. Faker is their father?
Quinton: It began five years ago. Back then Dr. Faker and my father Byron Arclight were searching for a door that would lead to other worlds.
Flashback
Dr. Faker was typing at his computer, trying to make sense of his research.
Faker: The 21 anomalies I detected should lead me to the location, but it isn't working. It seems there's something missing in my calculations. It's driving me mad!
Byron: Dr. Faker, please, have a cup of tea and try to relax.
Faker took the glass and tossed it to the floor where it shattered.
Faker: There isn't any time to relax! Arclight, I have to open that portal before it's too late.
Byron: Don't forget Dr., there is someone else looking for the portal who might be able to help us. Chris, bring up the file we discussed.
Chris: Yes father, right away.
Byron: If anyone can help us it's this man. One of the world's most daring adventurers, Kazuma Tsukomo.
The next day, Kazuma was sitting on top of a rock formation watching the sunset.
Kazuma: What an incredible view, and I have it all to myself. There's no one else around for at least 100 miles.
Just then he heard a noise approaching and turned around to see a helicopter making its way towards him.
Kazuma: Of course, I could be wrong.
The helicopter landed and Chris stepped out of it.
Chris: Kazuma Tsukomo, I'd like for you to come with me. I have a proposition I think you'd be most interested in.
Kazuma boarded the vehicle and the two of them returned to Faker's lab.
Kazuma: Quite the impressive layout you've got here.
Byron: Welcome. I'm sorry to have interrupted your trip so suddenly, but I'm glad you came. I'm Byron Arclight, and it is an honor to meet you.
Kazuma: These are the most advanced gravitational wave scans I've ever seen.
Faker: But they're not advanced enough. I've tried every technology possible, but still can't find the interdimensional portal. It must exist, I'm sure of it. But there's something we're missing.
Byron: Kazuma, you've been looking for the portal as well. Will you share your research with us?
Kazuma: If we succeed, it will change the course of human history. You will become rich and famous beyond your wildest dreams.
Faker: Money and fame are of no interest to me. All I care about is locating that interdimensional portal.
Kazuma: In that case, we can work together.
Byron: That was a test, wasn't it?
Kazuma: Living for adventure and the thrill of discovery are all I care about.
Byron: I'd say we found the right partner.
Faker: Take a look at this.
He waved his hand and a map of the earth appeared in the center of the room with 21 locations marked on it.
Faker: Arclight and I have detected abnormal gravity readings at 21 different locations across the globe. We believe these reading indicate where the interdimensional portal has opened in the past. By analyzing this data, we were hoping to predict where the portal would next appear.
Kazuma: So you based your prediction on this data?
Faker: Yes. The calculation is quite complicated, but I almost have it solved. It's as though there's just one piece of crucial information I'm missing.
Kazuma: Not one piece, but two.
Faker: What?
Kazuma: Your observations are incomplete doctor. Some discoveries can only be made outside a laboratory. I've found two more locations on my expeditions, here and here. If you redo your calculations, you should find the portal.
Quinton: Kazuma was correct. With the additional data he supplied, Dr. Faker reworked his calculations and soon identified where the portal would appear next, and we raced there as quickly as we could.
Kazuma: Reaching that portal won't be easy. We have a challenging trek before us my friends.
Byron: You'd better stay here Chris. I'll go on with Dr. Faker and Kazuma.
Chris: Okay. Good luck father.
Quinton: That was the last time I saw all of them together, but I know what happened after they left me. When I finally saw my father again, he told me everything. Following Dr. Faker's calculations and with Kazuma leading the group, they pressed onward.
Byron: Kazuma, what if after all this effort, we arrive at the location and there is no portal?
Kazuma: Even if we fail on our quest, it will be worth the effort. Anyway, the most important thing is that we never give up and keep feeling the flow.
Byron: Feeling the flow?
Kazuma: It's something I tell my son so that he never gives up.
He pulled a picture of his wife and children out of his pocket, looking at it fondly.
Byron: That's your family Kazuma?
Kazuma: Yes. My son Yuma is really into dueling.
Byron: Mine too. I have three sons myself, and dueling means everything to them. Dr. Faker also has sons of his own, two of them.
Kazuma: Do you know why he's so obsessed about finding that interdimensional portal?
Byron: I'm not sure, but if anyone can locate it, he can. Dr. Faker is a true genius.
Inside his tent, Faker was looking at something on his portable computer.
Faker: The runes I found were very clear: "Deliver two souls for mysteries untold". Two souls huh?
Quinton: Three days later, the group finally arrived at the location.
Byron: Gentlemen, I think we've found what we're seeking.
Faker: Arclight, look here. I saw this rune in my research. We have found the portal! Success at last! And now we just have to open it! Let's hurry!
He stepped forward, but he stepped onto a section with more of the runes. After he touched it, the runes glowed red and the door they came in slammed shut.
Kazuma: Watch out!
He ran forward and tackled Dr. Faker, pushing him out of the way of a falling slab.
Byron: Kazuma, Faker!
Kazuma: Don't move! Listen Byron, we have to proceed carefully. This whole location must be filled with traps. Whoever built this place didn't want trespassers. If you want to leave here in one piece, I suggest you watch your step.
They continued until they reached an empty room with a single stone pillar above an abyss. Byron and Kazuma climbed the steps to the top and looked around, but there was nothing there.
Byron: Looks like we reached a dead end.
Kazuma: That's strange. Maybe we took a wrong turn?
Byron: Should we go back?
He took a step back, but stepped on more runes that glowed just like the last set.
Kazuma: What's this?
Just then, streaks of red energy came up from the floor, holding them both in place.
Faker: Gentlemen, the time has finally come.
Byron: Dr. Faker?
Faker: Believe me, I regret that there is no other way.
Kazuma: What are you talking about?
Faker: The writing beneath your feet explains everything. The ancient inscription reads, "Deliver two souls for mysteries untold".
Byron: You planned to betray us all along, didn't you?
Faker: I have sworn to open a passage to other worlds, and nothing will stop me!
Kaumza: You've lost your mind! How could you do this Faker? How could you betray your friends?
Faker: Friends? So what? All that's ever mattered to me is reaching my goal. You and Byron were useful for a time, but now you're expendable.
They began to fall into the portal, but Kazuma managed to grab both Byron and the ledge.
Kazuma: I've got you Byron, just hang on!
Byron: Kazuma, save yourself. Let go of my hand.
Kazuma: My son always tells me that when he duels with someone, then they become friends forever. Well, it's the same for me and my adventures. We're in this together Byron.
Byron: Kazuma.
Faker: Enough! The portal is open, and you're both finished!
The ledge crumbled away and Byron and Kazuma fell into the portal, Byron shouting revenge as he plummeted.
End Flashback
Quinton: My father couldn't believe how Faker betrayed them.
Yuma: So that was the last anyone saw of my father?
Astral: Deliver two souls for mysteries untold? That sounds like an xyz summon.
Quinton: Yuma, one day my father did return. He found a way to travel through interdimensional gaps between the worlds, until he reached this world again. However, there was a price. His appearance became warped until he was no longer recognizable. My father now calls himself Vetrix.
Orbital: W-w-w-w-what?!
Yuma: Vetrix is your father?
Quinton: It's all Faker's fault. He betrayed my father, and I swore to get my revenge.
Kite: This doesn't change anything to me. Dr. Faker means nothing to me. I only care about Hart, and getting even for what you did! Stand aside Yuma! It's my turn. I draw! And since I control no monsters, I special summon Photon Thrasher from my hand!
Level 4/Light/Warrior
ATK 2100/DEF 0
Kite: Next I summon Photon Pirate!
Level 3/Light/Warrior
ATK & DEF 1000
Kite: And now I activate Photon Pirate's special ability. By banishing Photon Delta Wing from my graveyard, Pirate gains 1000 attack points until the end of this turn.
Pirate: 1000-2000 ATK
Kite: Now I sacrifice Photon Thrasher and Photon Pirate! The galaxy that lurks in the darkness. Become the light of hope and my very servant. The embodiment of light now descends! Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!
Level 8/Light/Dragon
ATK 3000/DEF 2500
Quinton: You're playing into my hands perfectly Kite.
Kite: Delta Wing had 1800 attack points, and I took 1000 points of damage when his number attacked it, which means his number has 2800 attack points. Galaxy-Eyes, attack Dyson Sphere with Photon Stream of Destruction!
Galaxy-Eyes unleashed his attack, but it disappeared into the same vortex as Delta Wing's attack.
Kite: It failed?
Quinton: Why don't I show you why? And show you my number?
A huge object came out from behind the sun before it unfolded, forming into a structure even larger than the sun itself.
Kite: That thing, it's so huge, how could any monster destroy it? It seems impossible.
Quinton: It is impossible. No monster can defeat Dyson Sphere.
Dyson Sphere
Rank 9/Light/Machine
ATK 2800/DEF 3000
