Shark: 1700 LP

Yuma: 1800 LP

Shark's field: Number 32: Shark Drake, one face-down

Yuma's field: Gogogo Ghost, two face-downs

Yuma: We have to stop that number.

Astral: It will be difficult.

Bronk: I wouldn't want to bump into that thing at night.

Flip: Or in the day.

Heartland: Oh wow! That monster has mean written all over it.

Faker: It's magnificent. I must have it!

Vetrix: I know you Faker, and you're planning to seize control of Shark Drake and its power. You don't realize I have plans too.

Shark: Show no mercy Shark Drake. Destroy Gogogo Ghost with Deepsea Destruction!

Shark Drake fired an energy blast that morphed into its jaws before biting Gogogo ghost in half, the shockwave from the attack pushing Yuma over.

Yuma: 900 LP

Astral: Here comes Shark Drake's effect.

Yuma: I know.

Shark: I'm not through with you yet Yuma. I activate Shark Drake's special ability! By using one overlay unit, your Gogogo Ghost is summoned back to your field in attack mode with 1000 fewer attack points!

Ghost: 1900-900 ATK

Bronk: Why would Shark bring Yuma's monster back?

Tori: Because now Shark Drake can attack it again.

Shark: Shark Drake, tear into Gogogo Ghost again!

Shark Drake launched another attack and set off an explosion.

Shark: It's over.

Yuma: Not yet it's not.

Yuma: 900 LP

Shark: What?

The smoke cleared and revealed Yuma was still standing and Gogogo Golem was on his field in defense mode.

Bronk: Yuma switched his monsters!

Tori: He still has a chance!

Shark: How did you bring him out?

Yuma: When Gogogo Ghost is special summoned, I can bring back a Gogogo monster from my graveyard and then change Ghost to defense mode, so even though Ghost was destroyed, I didn't take any damage.

Shark: So that's how you survived. It doesn't matter. I'll just crush you on my next turn.

Bronk: Way to go Yuma!

Caswell: That was a great move.

Flip: So it was probably Astral's idea.

Tori: Please hang in there, Yuma.

Vetrix: Not bad, but still not good enough.

Faker: Reginald has completely reversed the course of this duel. Yuma will need to summon his most powerful number to survive, which means I'll be able to see Utopia's powers.

Astral: You must find a way to summon Utopia. It is our only hope now.

Yuma: I was thinking the same thing. Gogogo Golem is level 4, but I don't have any other monsters. If I'm going to summon Utopia, I have to draw a level 4 monster. Here goes, I draw!

He looked at the card he drew and saw it was a trap card.

Yuma: Nuts!

Astral: Patience Yuma.

Yuma: Patience? I don't have the patience to be patient. I gotta save Shark before it's too late! Come on Shark, snap out of it! Vetrix is controlling your mind, but I know you can break free if you just think back to all the duels you and I fought together!

Shark: What are you talking about?

Yuma: Don't you remember our first duel? We battled for both Bronk's deck and mine. And then there was the time we teamed up to duel against Scorch and Chills, and you gave me your Armored Xyz card after we won. It meant a lot when you gave me that card, because it felt like we were really starting to become friends. And then when Kite tried to take the Emperor's Key, you dueled him to protect it. Think back Shark! Try to remember! All those duels helped me see who the true you is, Shark, and that person is my friend!

Shark: No, I'm not. I don't want to be friends with anyone Yuma, especially not you. The one thing I care about is getting revenge. You're gonna pay for hurting my sister! I've had enough chit chat for one day. I came here to duel, not to have a conversation, so hurry up and make your move!

Yuma: Alright then, I'll have to let my dueling speak for me! First I'm changing Gogogo Golem from defense to attack mode!

Golem: 1800 ATK

Yuma: Next I play the spell Golden Form! When a monster on my field changes from defense mode to attack mode, I can play this card and double its attack points!

A bright light surrounded Gogogo Golem and it became covered in a golden armor.

Golem: 1800-3600 ATK

Heartland: Wow, better break out the sunglasses folks, because that is the glitziest golem I've ever seen.

Bronk: But even if it's powered up, it's not a number, so it can't take out Shark Drake.

Astral: Yuma?

Yuma: I know what I'm doing. Even though I can't destroy Shark Drake, my attack will still pack a punch. Maybe the impact will be enough to bring Shark back to his senses. Gogogo Golem, attack Shark Drake with Grand Cannon!

Golem raised its fist and slammed it into Shark Drake, the force of the blow sending Shark flying.

Shark: 900 LP

Yuma: Shark, snap out of it! Come on, Shark!

Heartland: Very clever. Yuma just threw Shark a curve and got a solid strike! He may not have scratched Shark Drake, but now both duelists are down to 900 life points.

Shark: You can't take down my number, so you're trying to drain my life points instead. Only it's too late for that.

Yuma: We'll see about that. I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Shark: I guess we will. I draw! It's time. I just wish my sister were here to see this, but she can't be thanks to you! Ahhhhhhh!

His eyes glowed red and his body began to give off the same purple aura as when he dueled Quattro.

Shark: Go Chaos Xyz Evolution! Come forth, Chaos Number 32: Shark Drake Veiss!

Rank 4/Water/Sea Serpent

ATK 2800/DEF 2100

Heartland: What is that?

Bronk: He doesn't look too friendly.

Flip: Like he did before?

Yuma: How can we stop that thing?

Astral: I am not sure we can.

Shark: I activate Shark Drake Veiss's special ability! By using one overlay unit, I can banish a shark monster from my graveyard, and then the attack points of your monster will be decreased by the attack points my banished monster has! I banish Spear Shark, which means Gogogo Golem loses 1600 attack points!

Astral: Yuma, the trap!

Yuma: I got it! I play the trap Power Change Barrier! By reducing Gogogo Golem's attack points by 600, Shark Drake's effect is canceled!

Golem: 3600-3000 ATK

Cathy: Nice defense!

Caswell: But Shark Drake still has overlay units left, so Yuma is still in trouble.

Shark: I use another overlay unit to banish Double Shark from my graveyard to lower Golem's attack points!

Yuma: I activate Power Change Barrier's effect again! I lower Golem's attack power by 600 to negate Shark Drake's special ability!

Golem: 3000-2400 ATK

Shark: I still have one overlay unit left! I banish Shark Drake from the graveyard to lower Golem's attack power by 2800!

Yuma: I activate Change Barrier's effect!

Golem: 2400-1800 ATK

Shark: So what? My Shark Drake now has 1000 more attack points than your Golem, and you only have 900 life points left. Shark Drake Veiss, destroy Gogogo Golem and Yuma with Chaos Stream!

Shark Drake fired a beam of purple energy from his mouth at Yuma's monster.

Yuma: I activate the trap Half Unbreak! Not only does this card prevent Golem from being destroyed in this battle, but it halves the damage I take!

Yuma: 400 LP

Shark: You've survived everything I've thrown at you, but I've saved the best for last. On my next turn, you're finished. I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Vetrix: If Yuma was wise, he'd stay down. He doesn't have a chance. The card I gave Shark is too powerful. With it, Yuma will be finished once and for all.

Astral: We are down to 400 life points. This is our last chance.

Yuma: I know, but I'm counting on my deck to help me win this turn. I gotta draw a monster. I'm feeling the flow!

He drew his card and saw it was his Gagaga Magician.

Yuma: Perfect. I summon Gagaga Magician in attack mode!

Level 4/Dark/Spellcaster

ATK 1500/DEF 1000

Yuma: And now I overlay my level 4 Gagaga Magician and Gogogo Golem! With these two monsters, I build the overlay network and xyz summon Number 39: Utopia!

Rank 4/Light/Warrior

ATK 2500/DEF 2000

Shark: Nice work, except your Utopia only has 2500 attack points, so it's no match for my chaos number. If he attacks, he'll be the one who gets destroyed.

Yuma: Wrong. Utopia will survive, and so will your chaos number.

Shark: What?

Yuma: I'm fighting this duel to save you. But that doesn't mean I don't want to win. I need to become champion of the World Duel Carnival so I can stop Dr. Faker and Vetrix, but it's also important to free you from the control Vetrix has on your mind. I'll do whatever it takes to help one of my friends, and that includes you, Shark!

Shark: Huh?

Yuma: Utopia, attack Shark Drake Veiss with Rising Sun Slash!

Utopia raised one of his swords and charged at Shark Drake.

Shark: Shark Drake is still stronger. Strike back with Chaos Stream!

Yuma: I don't think so. I activate Utopia's special ability! By using one overlay unit, I can negate Utopia's attack!

Utopia's sword disappeared before he extended his wing, blocking Shark Drake's blast.

Shark: You stopped Utopia's own attack?

Astral: Are you ready?

Yuma: Yeah. I play the trap Rivals Unite! Since an attack between two monsters was negated, I can play this trap in order to take control of your monster!

Shark: No, you can't!

Yuma: Shark Drake, leave Shark alone and come to my side of the field!

Shark Drake let out a loud roar before it was transported to Yuma's side of the field.

Yuma: You're free Shark, now remember the truth!

The memories of his interactions with Yuma came rushing back to Shark, and then he remembered who was truly responsible for his sister's condition.

Shark: Yuma didn't hurt my sister, it was Vetrix! He planted the number in my soul and made me forget the truth. Yuma!

The number 32 appeared on Yuma's hand as Shark Drake began trying to take him over.

Shark: Yuma!

Vetrix then appeared as a hologram in the air above Shark.

Vetrix: It's too late for Yuma. Soon his soul will be completely consumed by Shark Drake Veiss.

Shark: No!

Vetrix: If he truly is your friend, you'll want to help him of course.

Shark: What can I do? Wait, the trap I set last turn.

Vetrix: I see you remembered the trap I gave you. Don't worry Yuma, Shark will save you.

Yuma: Vetrix.

Vetrix: Since you took control of Shark Drake, Shark can now activate the trap Heraldry Catastrophe. With it, once your turn ends, Utopia and Shark Drake will be destroyed and you will take damage equal to their combined attack points. So Shark, it's a win-win for you. You free Yuma from Shark Drake's control and you win the duel. Am I brilliant or what?

Shark: What?

Vetrix: I expected Yuma to take over your monster, which is why I gave you the trap. Now your victory is guaranteed.

Yuma: If I lose the duel, Astral is a goner. There has to be a way out. Wait, I still have Traplin in my hand. If I send Rivals Unite to the graveyard, I can special summon it from my hand.

Astral: Yes, but if you do that, Shark Drake Veiss will return to Shark's side of the field, which means he will be possessed by the number again.

Yuma: So I have to choose between saving you and saving Shark? I can't.

Shark Drake's power surged, causing Yuma to fall to his knees.

Shark: Yuma!

Vetrix: Using the trap is the only way to save Yuma. Every second you hesitate, that chaos number tightens its grip on Yuma's soul. You must activate Heraldry Catastrophe before it's too late. It will save your friend and assure your victory.

Astral: Yuma!

Yuma: I can't do it. I can't choose between the two of you. You're both important friends to me!

Shark: Yuma! Wait, I still have the card I set at the start of the duel. I activate the spell Underwater Snow Prison! This card banishes one monster on the field, and I choose Shark Drake Veiss!

A crack appeared in the arena floor before a gust of freezing wind rushed forth, freezing Shark Drake solid before it shattered.

Shark: However, since the monster that was banished was water attribute, I take 1000 points of damage.

Shark: 0 LP

Winner: Yuma

Heartland: I can't believe it. Yuma Tsukumo wins the duel!

Yuma ran across the field to check on his friend.

Yuma: Shark, are you okay?

Shark: I'm fine. You saved me. My soul could've been lost forever, but you risked everything to save me. Just promise me you'll beat Vetrix for good.

Vetrix: Beat me? I'll teach that twerp Yuma not to meddle with my plans!

A red aura surrounded Vetrix and the window in front of him shattered.

Vetrix: Shark failed me, but that won't make any difference. After I defeat Kite, I'll eliminate Yuma Tsukumo once and for all!

A Heartland medical helicopter arrived and took Shark to the hospital.

Astral: Shark lost the duel for us.

Yuma: I know. When it was all on the line, Shark proved that he's a true friend.

Astral: He asked one thing in return though.

Yuma: Yeah, and if I do face Vetrix in the finals, I won't let Shark down. I'll win it all and hi-five the sky!
