39. A Trio's Challenge Part 2

Yuma and the others were still staring in disbelief at Dr. Faker's new monster.

Yuma: What is that thing?

Faker: When Galaxy-Eyes attacked Heart-eartH, its final special ability was activated. When Heart-eartH is attacked when it has no overlay units remaining, I can use Heart-eartH as xyz material to summon this monster, Number 92: Heart-eartH Dragon.

Shark: So that's how he summoned that monster.

Faker: That's not all. When Heart-eartH Dragon is special summoned, any monsters on your field that are in attack mode are changed to defense mode.

Kite: If Galaxy-Eyes is in defense mode, it can't attack.

Yuma: This guy has more tricks up his sleeve than a stage magician.

Shark: Just what else does he have in store for us?

Faker: This for starters. I activate the trap Fake Form! When one or more monsters on the field change battle modes because of an effect, this card deals you 400 points of damage for each of them!

Troy: Since three monsters changed modes, that's 1200 points of damage.

Tori: Which is exactly how many life points they have left!

Faker: You're finished!

A blast of energy shot from his trap at Yuma, Shark, and Kite.

Kite: Not yet we're not, because I'm activating the effect of Kuriphoton in my hand! By sending this card to the graveyard and giving up half our life points, we don't take any damage from your trap!

YSK: 600 LP

Kuriphoton appeared on the field and blocked the blast, causing itself to be destroyed in the process. Kite then felt a surge through his body and dropped to one knee.

Yuma: Kite! You're wearing yourself out.

Kite: Be quiet. I'm gonna finish this duel no matter what. I'll never give up till I beat Faker!

Faker: That's an unwise choice. If you had backed down, you would have saved yourself from even greater suffering.

Kite: I end my turn.

Faker: So be it. I draw! Heart-eartH Dragon, unleash your fury on Shark Drake!

Shark: What?! But your monster has no attack points.

Faker: Heart-eartH Dragon can't be destroyed in battle, and any damage I would receive is inflicted to the three of you instead!

Yuma: Say what?

Shark: That's why he attacked Shark Drake.

Faker: That's right. Now, eliminate these fools with Heartbreak Cannon!

Yuma: We're done for.

Shark: I activate the trap Escape Lure! This card changes the attack target to another monster on our field and halves the battle damage! The monster I choose as the new attack target is Utopia!

Yuma: Why do that?

Kite: Think Yuma. If we lessen the damage to Faker, we lessen the damage to ourselves.

Kite: I get it now. I play the trap Half Unbreak! This card keeps a monster from being destroyed in battle and halves all battle damage from battles involving it this turn! And I'm using it on Heart-eartH Dragon!

Faker: Why would he use a trap on my monster instead of protecting his own?

Yuma: By reducing the damage to Heart-eartH Dragon, the damage reflected to us is lessened. Thanks to mine and Shark's traps, the damage to Heart-eartH Dragon is only 500 points, so we only take 500 points of damage.

YSK: 100 LP

Faker: Impressive, but pointless. Due to the effect of Heart-eartH Dragon, the damage you just received is added onto my life points.

Faker: 2950 LP

Faker: I place one card face-down and end my turn, so make your move.

Yuma: We've only got 100 life points left. What are we gonna do now?

Yuma: Not even close. I play the spell Gamusharush! By changing my monster's attack points to 0, you get slammed with 600 points of damage!

Faker: 2350 LP

Yuma: I place one card face-down and end my turn.

Kite: You tried some actual strategy for once.

Shark: Since attacks can't damage him, you found another way. It was only 600 points, but that's not bad.

Yuma: We can do this. We just need to keep working together. It's up to you now Shark.

Shark: Alright, I draw!

Suddenly he felt his side ache again where the litterbot struck him.

Shark: I have to tough it out just a little longer.

Faker: I activate another one of Heart-eartH's special abilities! During the standby phase, every card you placed on the field during the previous turn is banished!

Yuma: What?

A bright light flashed from Heart-eartH Dragon's horns and both Utopia Ray and Yuma's set card vanished.

Yuma: It has that kind of effect?

Faker: Heart-eartH Dragon is the most powerful number in existence! No matter what you try, you cannot defeat me!

Shark: We'll see about that. Go, Chaos Xyz Evolution! Rise from the deep, Chaos Number 32: Shark Drake Veiss!

Shark Drake Veiss reared its head back before unleashing a powerful stream of energy on Dr. Faker.

Faker: Nice try, but I activate the trap Fake Life! This card cancels the damage from your attack and allows me to gain life points equal to the damage I would have taken.

Faker: 5150 LP

Shark: I'll put a card face-down and end my turn.

Shark felt his side hurt again and dropped to his knees as he clutched the wound.

Yuma: Shark, are you okay?

Shark: I'll be fine.

Kite: I'll take over from here. I draw!

Faker: And now Heart-eartH Dragon's special ability activates, so Shark Drake Veiss and your face-down card are banished!

Heart-eartH emitted a bright light from its horns and Shark's cards disappeared.

Shark: I was waiting for that.

Faker: What?

Shark: I activate the effect of Xyz Dimension Splash! When this card is banished by my opponent's card effect, I can summon two level 8 water attribute monsters from my deck, but they can't attack or be tributed.

Faker: What?!

Shark: I summon two copies of Hyper Ancient Shark Megalodon!

Shark: Stick it to him Kite.

Shark dropped to the ground, gripping his side as he tried to slow the bleeding.

Kite: I won't let your consideration go to waste.

A red aura began to surround Kite's body.

Kite: I overlay level 8 Galaxy-Eyes with Shark's Megalodons! With these three monsters, I build the overlay network! Radiant galaxy, here and now become the striking light, and show yourself! Descend, my very soul! Neo Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon!

Neo Galaxy-Eyes let out a roar, sending energy waves through the air that struck Heart-eartH Dragon and drained it of its color.

Faker: Heart-eartH!

Kite: Now you can't stop the damage from our attacks. I activate Neo Galaxy-Eyes' other special ability! By using one overlay unit, all your monster's overlay units are sent to the graveyard, and then for each one it lost, Neo Galaxy-Eyes gains 500 attack points!

Heart-eartH: 0 OLU

Neo: 4500-5000 ATK

Faker: 5000 attack points?! This can't be!

Kite: Now then Faker, are you going to give up your insane schemes and come to your senses?

Faker: You don't know what you're doing!

Kite: I know exactly what I'm doing. Neo Galaxy-Eyes, attack with Ultimate Photon Stream of Destruction!

Kite's monster fired energy blasts from each of its mouths that joined into one massive beam that pierced Heart-eartH, destroying it and sending Faker flying, parts of his armor breaking off.

Faker: 150 LP

Yuma: Awesome! That sure cut Faker down to size!

Troy: They only need to land one more hit to win.

Kite: I'll give you one last chance. Set Hart free now.

Faker: I can't. You may think you're helping Hart, but you're only putting him in greater danger.

Kite: What are you talking about?

Faker: Because Hart has no hope of surviving unless Astral World is destroyed.

Yuma: Why would you have to destroy Astral World to save Hart?

Faker: Because Hart's life depends on power from Barian World.

Kite: What?

Faker: Since the day he was born, Hart was very frail, and it would only grow worse unless something drastic was done. Unfortunately, the cure to his condition lied outside the scope of traditional medicine, so I realized I had to look outside our world for a solution. Once I had decided that I would save Hart no matter what, I abandoned everything else, even my own principles.

Yuma: Like betraying my father and Vetrix.

Faker: Yes. They were my friends, but in the end I sacrificed them to open the portal we had discovered. As I'd hoped, the portal did lead to another world. I soon discovered it was called Barian World. It was a strange world with energy resources that seemed to be unique. Because of this, the inhabitants possessed knowledge and technologies radically different from our own. I didn't hesitate to make a deal with them. They promised me they would save Hart if I destroyed their mortal enemy Astral World, but if I failed, they would take Hart.

Kite: Why didn't you tell me all this before?

Faker: Because I knew you would place the burden on yourself if you knew the truth. I am thankful for everything you have done, even becoming a number hunter of your own choice. I wish I could have told you the truth, but-

Kite: That was wrong of you father.

Faker: What?

Kite: You put your trust in Barian World without hesitation, but you couldn't trust your own son?

Faker: Kite…

Kite: I've sworn to protect Hart, and I intend to keep that promise, but I'll do it the right way, and that's by stopping Barian World!

Yuma: And you won't be fighting alone. I don't know a lot about Barian, but I'll be battling at your side.

Shark: And so will I. Barian has to be stopped, and I owe them some payback.

Yuma: We'll join all of our powers just like we did today. We can't lose!

Kite: Father, you don't have to carry this burden anymore. We'll settle everything, I promise. I know what I'm doing, so please trust me.

Faker: My son, I'm so sorry.

?: Dr. Faker. You almost succeeded, but at the critical moment, you faltered.

Faker: No!

Kite: Father, what's wrong?

Faker: Stay away!

?: Since you failed me, I will have to complete what you began.

A giant cloud of red mist appeared on the field, and Heart-eartH Dragon appeared out of it.

Yuma: What's happening?

Part of the mist changed into a humanoid shape, hovering over Dr. Faker.

?: You three believe you can defeat me? Then I will give you the chance to prove it. This duel is far from over.

Yuma: What do you mean? Who are you?

?: I am from Barian World!
