The Return Of A Legend

Warnings: I'm going to do this story in the first person point of view of Max as he deals with his one year term of life in school and settled at home. But this is going to be the movie from his point of view as he recalls his first Halloween in Salem, before he and his sister and girlfriend go for their night out that night, before things really get going.
Chapter 2: The Legend of the Sanderson Sisters
"And you changed after your encounter with them, but this is the you we know Max, you're happy here now and you completely converted to this now. Hey Kids, one fast trip to the museum." Mrs. Andrews said and our class nodded. "You think anyone else is going to want to do this, since we all believe in the legend right now." Jay said and she nodded as I smiled as I looked at the principal then smiling at I said it to him.
"I think, with tonight being All Hallows' Eve, and we're discussing our town legend, how about a trip to the museum itself to finish out the day?" I asked and they smiled at the idea. "That works to end today on a positive note as we enjoy a trip to the house we got back as a museum after history came alive in one night." Mr. Jackson said to me gently. "You got the intercom, Sir?" I asked and the principal nodded as he gave it to me.
"All students and teachers, in lieu of it being Halloween night, and the opening night of last year's unexpected come back. Final classes are cancelled in exchange for a history lesson field trip up at the Sanderson house. The principal, the coaches, Professor Conners and Mrs. Andrews of the sophomore Ancient history. And Coach Phfeiffer of the local legends class have all decided to end the day on a field trip to the museum."
"On our town's biggest legend come to life, final class of the day is a fast field trip up to the Sanderson house folks." I said and I heard a several happy shouts at that from ten classes in the hall we were in at that remark. "We're giving a freebie today and with it being Halloween that's the first stop in trick or treating this afternoon. Before it turns into a bit of madhouse tonight." Professor Roberts said with a bemused smile then.
As the principal smiled as he gestured and I nodded. "Everyone who brought their bikes up to the high school, you can come get them after the trip to the museum. But everyone to the buses in 15 minutes." he said and I knew they nodded as my team and I exchanged grins. "Oh this is going to be cool right now, I love this time of year now here." I said and she smiled as he patted my shoulder as the four of us involved.
That night, smiled as we headed for the school bus then and headed for the house then. "I know I was an unbeliever when I moved here, but you just convinced me last year honey, once you come face to face with said town legend. And it becomes more believable at the time, but this is ridiculous." I said and Jay nodded in agreement. "I really hope no one does anything stupid tonight right now." he said and I nodded to that.
"Whoa, alright watch where you're going, watch your step." I heard as I heard a slip as they were stepping onto the path leading up to the house. "Meow, meow!" I heard as I heard meowing and I knew a cat saw us as I heard a scurrying across the wall. "That meow sounds like he or she is saying 'Max'." Ice said and we both turned to see a kitten running across the wall till they reached us as we saw a kitten no older then 6 months.
"Are you trying to say my name little guy?" I asked and it gave another meow, before it meowed a sentence to me. "Allison, Max, Jay, Ice, Thackery and I are on guard duty, but my entire family possessed the body of a family of black cats. Max it's me, you remember the ending, before we separated last year.'." I read out and we exchanged shocked looks at as I said it to her at that as I said it then in disbelief.
"Emily, that's really you kiddo?" I asked and she meowed a yes to me. "You need some help getting down from there, because getting up is one thing, getting down. And when you're this age is harder so need a hand." I asked and she gave a second mew and I nodded as I got her down from there. "Where's your brother and your parents?" The professor asked and she meowed a second remark and I started laughing then.
"They're in the house guarding her potion supplies and the candle, but Thackery sent me ahead to let you know we were back. And at the moment, but destroying that candle is our one option now.'." I read out and we nodded to that news gently as I got her off the wall and she curled up in my arms purring at that as I got to the door as I looked through the window and saw 3 black cats in the main room.
"I'd like to know how they got into the house right now?" The professor said and she mewed a remark. "Through the upstairs window, and the tree next to it, that's how Thackery got into the house when the trio captured me at the time." she said and I nodded to the news as the Professor unlocked the door and I set her down as she moved to her family then and I smiled as Allison said it to us with a slight smile.
"I got the keys and we just restocked things here after we reopened up the museum." Allison said and we nodded. "Alright whatever you do, don't light the damn thing again we don't need it starting this early right now. But I'm making it clear whoever tries that twice is ending up in ISS for nearly killing you guys tonight. Let alone the following morning, as you still have the scars from her nails." The coach said and I nodded to that.
"Not just her, Binx jumped on me to prevent it from happening, but being a skeptic gets dangerous and I just found that out the hard way last year, coach. But you're right, Allison we better double those locks, both on the back door and the front door." I said and she nodded as she unlocked the front door and I grabbed my tool box as I pulled several locks out of it and a screw driver, as I got to work as I heard a pained shout.
"Ow damn it, what was that for exactly, you stupid cat!" Walters snapped and I shouted at him over my shoulder. "Put that lighter away, that's why he attacked you, and I mean it, try it and you're getting arrested here for it, Derek and I'm not kidding right now." I snapped at him and then Jay called out at that to me. "The candle is back on full power Max, that's why the cat jumped him, he lights it and it's going to start all over again."
"Alright Derek you had your fun get away from there right now." he snapped and I sighed as I turned to check it and sighed. "Great just what we don't need right now, it's back to full power, no matter how many times we break that blasted spell. Then it's going to happen again., Allison, check the spell right now, see if it says on whether it works once, or it tried it again." I said and she unlocked the case the book was in.
As she did it, Jay and Ice moved to her and I heard him say it with a growl. "It worked to bring them back last Halloween, but if that candle is not destroyed. That curse is going to keep up, well instead of two witch hunters, we just doubled in size, Max." he told me gently at that. "Alright, Binx if that's you and I understand why you did that, come on out so Allison and I can see you." I said and I got an immediate response to that remark.
"Meow!" I heard and turned to see a black cat walking up to us. "Hey buddy, decided to take up guard duty again in case of trouble tonight?" I asked and he gave me a second meow as I ran my hand through his fur and he started purring then. "Binx if that's you, I understand why you came back, in case we had trouble tonight." Allison said and he meowed to her as I read it out and I smiled as Mrs. Andrews quickly said it to me.
As I heard a female voice say it then gently. "Maximus, I know you got the truth to what happened that All Hallows Eve, but this is no longer a game. Unless we destroy that candle, they're going to keep coming back." I heard and I nodded. "Mrs. Binx, is that you?" I asked and I heard the answer. "Yes honey it's me, but until dusk, it's just us talking to you." she said and Mrs. Andrews said it gently to that.
"Well we know the legends are true with the fact my students came face to face with the witches, your son, and Billy Butcher last year. But could you come out so we can see you right now." she said and I saw the duo, as a fifth cat, no older then Binx, when I met him walked out. "Max, whatever you do don't open that book, if someone lights that blasted candle." he said and I nodded. "Eli?" I asked and he nodded to me gently.
As I saw two more and both adults as they moved to stand next to him, Binx and Emily and I nodded. "I take it you're their parents, Councilor Binx?" I asked and he meowed a yes to me. "Why come back guys, we weren't sure we'd ever see you again." Allison asked and the adult male sighed as he said it in a human voice. "Son, honey, you're the only thing standing between them and the children of the entire town now."
"With us like this and you have more knowledge of this case then the others do, but like back then, you have a knowledge that can make a difference. Everything they think they know got replaced here at the time, so use what you know for this, my son and daughter are getting their voices back tonight. But right now it's just me, Eli and his mother." he said and I nodded to the orders then.
"Like Thackey you decided to talk like we do so we can understand more easily right now, Binx told us the entire thing, regarding Emily when they cursed him. But the night we pulled it now is that when he told us the entire story as we had to make it through. And into sunrise the following morning, but let me guess, the time of changing. Is that what this is, there's a 5 day timer of trouble, starting when the veil starts weakening."
"Once it starts weakening, that's when the spirits of the dead and the demons start breaking through the veil. But every mythical creature from trolls to imps, even demons, are using the week leading into Halloween and All Saints Day as the way to create havoc. And before we close and lock that door ourselves, as witch hunters and puritans." I said and he nodded to me as my mentor went to the next question then.
"What's your first name exactly?" The professor asked and he explained that to him. "Jerome, my name is Jerome Thackery Binx, and I gave my son my middle name, but I'm Jerome Binx this is my wife Caroline. But the opening leading into just before school ended, you had it right. That's what happened, in truth, with us gone, we figured you'd need the help, as we told you our back history."
"We can only help so much, but with us like this, it's your job to deal with the witches, you're a Puritan and a witch hunter now kids. But you just gained the pieces to what we didn't have to tell you here now. But salt is a purifier, white magic, as is your medallion we use that to repel black magic. But white magic is what we call now in your wording as the Wiccan ways of witch craft."
"But come here kids, I have to show you something that's important for all of you in this century to understand now." he said as he pulled something out and I took it as Emily jumped on the counter as she pointed out to something as I got the message. "Well if I was studying possessions and demonology at SLU, this helps, but I'd considered this beyond obscene at the moment." Allison said at the image then to that.
"Binx did you hear her talking about anything demonic, when you were trying to get into the house?" I added and he gave a meow as he jumped on the counter next to me. "I think this was why every Wiccan and Puritan hated black magic. And it's because of these images and know the truth the second they see it at the moment here." I said and he gave a meow as he left his head against my shoulder at that as our teacher said it.
"Is that Thackery?" she asked and he meowed at her to confirm that. "I think he got his voice back when we hit the second I lit the damn thing last year mam. But if that's the case, he's getting his voice back once someone does it twice, or at sundown. But buddy, come see me tonight, in case any of the newbies at school try this twice, because I'm grabbing the book before they come back." I said to him as he meowed in agreement.
"Meow, mew." he said to me and I nodded. "Or just grab it now after this trip to museum, alright and I agree with you at the moment." The professor said and as Allison read the information on the case. "Whoever's a virgin in the room, better not light that damn candle, because we're not going through this again right now." I said as I read out the information on that candle as I explained this to my classmates then gently.
"I guess that's not enough to make you a believer huh, to you it's a case of candid camera, but it's not Derek, they're possessing a family of black cats. I'm a warlock and witch hunter, but there's more to piece the story together like this one. Hey guys, stay clear and leave the lighters alone." I said as I moved to my position. "Alright son, you do my job here, but go ahead." The professor said to me, and I nodded, before I could.
Though, I heard a thunk and pained shout then. "Ow, damn it, get away from there, that's made of pure iron, Tony." Ice snapped and I looked up. "What happened boys?" The coach asked and he sighed. "He dropped the cauldron on my foot, coach, the one hanging over the floor firepit." he said and they nodded as he and the professor got it back into place on the hanger then as I sighed as I moved to my post then gently.
"The black flame candle spell, when on All Hallows Eve and the moon is round, a virgin will summon them from under the ground. But the black flame candle is made from the fat of a hang man, and when lit on Halloween, it will raise the spirits of the dead when lit by a virgin on Hallowen night." I said and Walters said it with skeptical smile as he held it up. "Yeah well let's light the sucker and meet the old broads, and you do the honors."
"Or are you too chicken to admit that you're still a skeptic in certain areas of this holiday?" he asked and I crossed my arms. "Forget about it, that one choice changed my life and I believe the legends so wholeheartedly right now. That I'm not risking another outbreak tonight, this museum has become my life's work. But once the professor steps down he's turning management of the museum over to us later on right now."
"But possessions, demonology, witches, black cats, zombies, vampires and such, though it doesn't seem real to out of towners, it is." I said as she read out the book information. "Nice touch big brother, I'm relieved you're saying that right now after what happened last year. And Derek this is not a joke, he's right, we're not having a repeat performance, now can it already." I heard from my baby sister Danni and I smiled at that remark.
"Nice way to break up a stand off Danni, and I'm glad you're here right now, and you're right again, but you had your fun Derek, get away from the candle." I said and he smirked. "Oh come on it's just a bunch of Hocus Pocus." he said and she, Allison and I crossed our arms. "Derek we mean it, we're not kidding this time, get away from the candle." Jay snapped and the coach grabbed him by the scruff of his neck at that.
"I'm not kidding young man, I'm more then their football coach, I'm also the guidance counselor. Just so you want me to describe this as you're suffering a case reckless behavior, so it's because you want to prove these legends are a joke. Because I will have you set up for for psychological interviews if you push us. And every teacher in the high school, let alone the elementary for trying it." he said and Danie looked at Allison then.
"Allie, go ahead and do yours right now." she added as she moved through the crowd to stand next to me then. "Aright Walters here's the catch, but are you paying attention." she said as he was leaning against the doorpost then as Danni was standing next to me as the boys moved to us as well as she said did it. "This is the spell book of Winifred Sanderson, it was given to her by the devil himself, the book is bound in human skin."
"And contains the recipes for her most powerful and evil spell's." she said and I smiled. "But acts of selflessness and I took the life potion myself, to save my sister." I said and they nodded to me. "I see why you broke the case then, but what's that mean, black magic or light magic?" Carter asked and she explained that. "They're into black magic and trust me that means they're demonology, and to them the devil is their master."
"But these recipes are pure black magic, fortunately with the candle not lit I can open it now." she said and Binx jumped on my shoulder as he waited then as she unlocked the case and flipped to the chapter focused on that potion and smiled. "Found it, Binx is this the one that killed your sister and nearly killed Max last year?" she asked and he meowed a yes to her and then pressed his forehead to hers and she chuckled at that.
" Yeah I missed you to Binx, Danni's going to be glad to see you too." she said and he purred a response and our teacher chuckled at that response. "Yeah a good thing too right now and hey guys, decided on trip up here yourselves before school ended for the day?" Danni said and I smiled as I answered her gently. "Yeah and we possibly got trouble right now tonight as well here." I said and her 3rd grade teacher nodded to me.
"Issues in unexpected reveals and if this why you gave us that warning about the Sanderson sisters being back when you crashed the party at town hall. I understand why son, and I'm just saying this for every parent and teacher in town. We have anyone break in here and light that damn thing again, grab the book now. And get the heck out of dodge, Max, you're the first of the witch hunters to return now at the moment."
"Because once was enough right now." he said and I nodded to him as Danni gave me a hug and I picked her up and swung her around. "Last year did it for us, but I'm never letting it go to waste, but this time we get the drop on them. And we can wait it out until morning and while doing that get Billy up and involved." Allison said and Danni nodded in agreement as we exchanged smiles just as she was answering I heard another thunk.
"Ow, alright watch it man or you're going to break something or hit your head." Ice said and she started laughing. "Alright laugh it up kiddo, this is neither the time nor place for this right now." He said before Jay repeated that as he gave her a gentle brotherly hug. "Laugh it up kiddo, and I thought you got those down from the ceiling." Jay asked and I chuckled. "You never know when the trouble starts here." I said to him at that remark.
"We did, but the next time you're out there watch your mouth, Ice, Jay, or you're going to have problems again." Allison said to him and he smiled. "I maybe a virgin, but I'm not stupid enough to insult her, but whatever you said to them, don't do it twice guys. Then again, like I said, it doesn't matter how young or old she is here, she sold her soul to stay young and attractive, she's the ugliest thing that ever lived and she knows it."
"And you made that clear, Jay, she's looking for the spell book, zeroes in Max's favorite tennis shoes and you gave us two more hours delay. By insulting them, but it's not Sarah or Mary that remark was aimed at, but Winifred herself, but Binx called her a hag. You called her ugly and with that, there's not enough children in this town. Or the entire planet, to make her young and beautiful." Danni said to him and he smiled and nodded.
"Nice reminder girls, but I don't need that memory right now." Jay said from the counter to my right and I chuckled at that. "Yeah well one more reason to lay off the wise guy attitudes guys, you barely missed getting turned into stew last year." I told him and he nodded in agreement to that. " You taking her out tonight again, though, because we stopped being so wild since we dealt with this?" Ice asked and I nodded to him smiling.
"Yeah, first dinner at our house and then we're going trick or treating before the movie, though somebody lights that thing again. And I'm reliving the movie for the second Halloween in 2 years now right now, then again. Guys, I'm going to need back up, with our parents getting broadsided if that does happen here. So with that, getting ready for recall boys." I said as I grabbed my walkie talkie and through it to him and he caught it.
"I see why the head actress in the nightmare films saw this is as a reason to take it so seriously, as we're the ones dealing with it. And we got a possible grouping of new arrivals causing a riot or worse right now tonight though that happens. It's a need for calling out emergency powers, and we got work to do guys." Allison said and I nodded and he smiled as he answered her as we exchanged bemused looks then gently.
"Dream warriors we ain't, but we are witch hunters, and we're back, only these are real witches, and not wiccans we're dealing with. But real witches doing black magic, so best to do just to adults job for them right now." Jay said and we nodded. "Alright guys, pull yourselves together after last year and again I'm making it clear. Someone breaks in here and it's 3 months ISS for reckless endangerment and breaking and entering now."
"So with us at the party, just keeps tabs and I'm calling a city council meeting before the party, so expect us at your house son, baby." The professor said and I nodded. "Yes sir, and I will, whoever of you newbies in this room think this is a joke it's not. I mean it, break into the museum and you're getting arrested attempted murder, breaking and entering and reckless endangerment, is that clear. " Allison said sternly to the group.
"Yeah and take it down a notch, before you get yourself busted again, and guys I need added back up in the witch hunting, but private justice. And lynch mobs took it to a whole new meaning in this town, but where survival is concerned here. Then they started getting desperate which is why the caged you, before we revealed where we were. At the time, but 5 a.m., and we had 2 hours till dawn now at the time, and with that."
"I hope this changed your perspective man." I said and they started laughing as he answered me. " It did, used to be an outsider and now a friend and with that, lets just say I'd rather give up my life to protect Danni. And rather than letting them get their hands on her, when they dragged her into the room. I realized what they were about to do and if I hadn't been caged I'd have knocked the cauldron over to destroy the potion."
"But you made sure they couldn't take a life, if you need a hand I'm on stand by and we're doing it together this time. You know I wasn't expecting us to become friends when you arrived man, but this definitely was worth the added scares that night." he said and I smiled as I fist bumped his and as we, Jared, Allison and our team all looked at Derek firmly as we and her teacher and classmates all crossed their arms then firmly..
"Life changes and with it you gain a maturity stronger than your years here, but us three we suffered something with my trio that changed us forever, my quartet. Something that changed us, something that you don't understand and until you lived it now." I said as as Binx leaned against my leg then firmly as Danni leaned into my sighed at that response. "I know this just a case of hocus Pocus to you, but it's real, it's all real, to us, it's real."
"But Derek, like me, there's only three other teenagers who saw these legends for ourselves face to face. And it's my girlfriend, Jay and Ice, we went through something that changes your perspectives for life. And with that every legend has a basis of fact to it, you dig deeper and it changes you forever. Legends and myths are also a real part of town history and I take pride in the fact I'm now a local about this as well."
"But dragons, wizards, trolls, witches, werewolves, vampires, though it's the supernatural and the pentagram is a symbol to ward off evil. But here's a piece of advice, this stuff might seem fake to a outsider whose never lived here. but just because you haven't seen it, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and some things. Somethings you see with your eyes, others you see with your heart, you stopped believing as you grow up."
"But we see this, because we live here and saw it come to life last year, so to be a true local here in Salem. But you got to believe, and you'll see gods wonders as they come alive right before your eyes. That's what Ben Kenobi meant when he was teaching Luke about being a Jedi, to be a Jedi is to believe in things you can't see. And just because you can't touch or see it, it doesn't mean it's not there and I'm saying the same thing.!
"The trio are not here in the room, but five members of the legend are and though two cant talk, yet, but just because you can't them it doesn't make the legends any less true than they were before. To be a local and have the spirit of a protector is to throw aside everything you once known to be true and act on learning everything our school and local legends have to teach you and you can learn if you let go and be open to it."
"Life as a local can be fun if you set aside the new kid attitude and with that, you get caught in the middle or try anything stupid you're going to unleash something more dangerous than you'll ever expect, so with that, anything is possible and there can be miracles as long as you believe in it enough to see it, you will. A true Salem local lets go of the past to enjoy the future and we really enjoy this time of year, now here."
"As Halloweenis now beyond cool to us Salemnites, and it's because aside from it being All Hallows' eve, it's a witch's holiday as well, Samhain, the festival of the dead. Growing up in California we never took Halloween that seriously because we thought it was a conspiracy made by the candy companies. I come here and I unlock the door to a vast amount of knowledge, see the legend come alive and in one night now."
"And I changed and I become Luke as he takes the mantle, I'm not who you remember me. As I've changed into a local now, I'm not a Californian any more, I'm a Salem local now, this is my hometown now. This is my home, I have friends, a team and a life here in Salem, I'm happy. So if you're not happy return to L.A., but that's the point, get used to it now." I told him and Allison squeezed my shoulder smiling at that remark.
As she leaned over the desk and gave me a hug as Jared smiled at me along with the guys. "And before you say it, thanks to that the guys are my best friends and I have friends on the football team, but I'm happy here. But you don't have to say the words, because I thought it all before this happened, but 'I hate this place, I miss all my friends and I want to go home.'." I said quoting my exact thoughts as Danni said it firmly then.
"Well this is your home now, so get used to it Derek, I gave him a second chance and the results were our brother/sister bond doubled in strength. But as Binx told him, take good care of each other, you'll never know how precious that bond, that relationship is, until one of you is gone. And you know what, he was right, that stand off was the clincher, we realized we didn't want to lose each other and our bond doubled in strength now."
"A year later and I have a big sister and surrogate big brothers and we're always together when he's not at football practice or game now." she said and they crossed their arms at that. As I pulled her into a hug and she burrowed into my chest then as Allison leaned into my side. "And I'm just saying this again you even try to light that thing on and you're getting arrested Derek, and I mean it." I said with a stern growl at him then.
I knew that seeing me change in one night had pleased them, and I decided to join the football team and my best friends were her ex, Jared and the duo I met and now I was working on taking on the mantle as the town historian and I knew my teachers were proud as Mrs. Walters looked at me that with a proud smile on her face at my declaration as my football coach answered that with a smile of pride on his face as he answered that.
"There's the attitude I'm looking for Max, pride in the fact you dig deeper into the legends you can learn more than ever possible, every legend has a basis of truth to it and knowledge is power, and just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. So with that fact in mind young man you just moved here a few days ago, you want to see the truth, just open up that can of worms and you'll see what we're talking about."
"But try it and it's getting you arrested for reckless endangerment." Coach Riley said to him as he crossed his arms and she finished his sentence. "Though it's a change in circumstances life as a skeptic is dangerous, and just because you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist Mr. Walters. Every legend has a truth to it, when you dig deeper into it, but they can reveal more than you'll ever know." she said and I smiled at that.
"The legends of Trantor the troll on Ernest scared stupid were proven correct when the kids chose the tree that was his burial site for their treehouse and like us they too were skeptics at one point till they see it with their own two eyes. Any legend can be proven true if you believe in it, but just because you can't see it. That it doesn't mean they aren't true, Winifred is the tactical genius of the trio, but she sold her soul to the devil."
"And for the gift of eternal youth, that book is protected by magic, it can't be torched, like the Springwood Slasher legend and the Trantor the Troll legend. So one option, it can't be destroyed, we keep it closed till dawn and then it's safe to open. And as we hit another stand off, it's all true, it's true if you believe in it enough. And if you make a mistake it can change your perspectives for life." I said and my teachers smiled at that.
"Just who is the wise guy here exactly, because you've changed pretty quickly since you moved to town, bro?" Eddie Basker asked and I chuckled. "Talking cats, witch hunting, concerts that spike your mind and result in mind control techniques, and multiple practical jokes on the trio, it took several delays, but Allison and I put our heads together and a trio of ten year old girls stole their broomsticks when they were at Mr. Jackson's."
"He set his house up like Dante's inferno and the infernal regions and was dressed like Satan, so with that they were distracted for 2 hours. They don't know their way around town once 300 years worth of changes result in taking away everything. That they know and replacing it with everything we know, secondly with half the adults. And at the town hall and others on trick or treating candy duty it resulted in a full blown fiasco."
"Once she put that dancing spell on our parents and while I was hanging on to the book all night and we bunked at my house. And till morning though we get a repeater it's going to be last Halloween all over again so watch yourselves fellas. And they know life has changed so if you see three grown women dressed in witch costumes. And acting like they're not from around here, get ready it's going to be a very long night tonight."
"Because I'm working on several ideas to prevent them from really causing a minefield, that song Jack Roberts did was the punchline." I said and they nodded smiling as Allison's best friend answered that. "What's the window of opportunity theory exactly if you say it like that. One All Hallows' Eve and the moon is round a virgin will summon thee from under the ground." Shawna Stanley asked and Allison answere that one.
