- Blacksmith Shop, New Berk.
Hiccup entered the new forge, and looked around. The Shop has an open design with a counter to talk to the customer outside. Hiccup chuckled at the sight of weapons, and tools laying all around the floor, and propped against the walls. Can't believe Gobber finished all this in one night! Hiccup thought as he looked at the stairs that led up to the 2nd floor. Gobber even has a corner for him with a desk! And he can't wait to bring his contraptions, and blueprints here!
Hiccup pushed the back door open, and found his mother, and Gobber trying to figure something out about their dragon.
"Is everything alright?" he asked them as he approached the dragons.
"Yeah, we're just trying to figure out how the Light Fury uses that Thought-Speaking thing." Gobber tried to rub Grump's head, mimicking what he saw the Light Fury did.
"Maybe a bit lower" Valka rubbed the middle spine that branches off Cloudjumper's nose.
The dragon groaned, and scratched the spot that Valka touched. Hiccup, and Valka started to worry after Cloudjumper shook his head, and tried to massage the spot as if he was in pain.
*Good, at first it was only an itch, but now a headache.* Gobber, Valka, and Hiccup froze as Cloudjumper shook his head, *That's better.* Cloudjumper tilted his head, *What?*.
"You just talked!" Gobber replied in awe.
*You heard me!?* Cloudjumper asked, *You can hear me?*
The riders nodded with glee, especially Hiccup, he can't wait to share this trick with his bud! Grump nudged Cloudjumper, asking 'Can you teach me?', and as if on cue, Toothless arrived, and wagged his tail excitedly in front of the Stormcutter.
*Just reach for the spot that itches, if it's painful to massage, that's the spot.* Toothless immediately tried to find the spot after Cloudjumper answered, and Grump looked down sadly, his forelegs were too short.
"It's ok, Grump" Gobber reassured, "I'm ok with what we are.".
Grump nuzzled his rider as Toothless was still trying to find the spot. Why is this so hard? He thought in rage, I've scratched every place on my head, and still nothing!
A spot on his head started to hurt, he quickly did the circle thing Luna did.
*Is it work?*.
"Toothless!" Hiccup's hug answered his question, and he quickly returned the embrace.
*Congrats, Toothless.* Grump smiled at him.
*Let me try* Toothless let go of Hiccup, and approached Grump.
It was a bit hard to find the spot through thick skin, so he used Grump's pupils as the guide.
*Ouch! That hurts*
"WOW! Grump!" Gobber chuckled at his dragon excitedly.
"This is amazing, we must tell everyone!" Hiccup smiled excitedly.
"We should study it first, we don't know the duration, or if there's any side effect, Hiccup." Valka warned.
*Well, that can wait,* Toothless replied, and turned to Hiccup, *Come Hiccup, I wanna discuss something.*.
Toothless rushed back inside the forge, and then looked around for papers, and pencils as Hiccup took the seat at his desk.
"Is everything alright, bud?" Hiccup asked nervously.
*Of course!* Toothless placed a paper, and pencil on the table. Then noticed something in his best friend's eyes, *Are you ok?*.
"Yesterday I thought you'd leave, and actually it's not the leaving that I'm afraid of, it's the reason you would leave that I'm scared of." Hiccup admitted, "I've always been holding you back, courting her would be a lot easier if I'm not around, honestly your life would have been a lot easier if I didn't sho-".
Toothless quickly threw him a mock punch before he finished, he deserved it.
"Hey! What was that for?".
*I need to stop you before you say something stupid,* Toothless replied casually, *Do you remember Snoggletog 6 years ago?*.
"That was before you met the Light Fury.".
*And I won't lie that I thought about leaving,* Toothless admitted, *Not because of Luna, but because I thought we'd be safe from hunters, and you'd be safe from them too. But that's giving up, and it's not freedom. I've made my choice, and I'll fly through wars till the end of my life because I want to* he smirked, *Trust in me ok?*
Hiccup nodded, and held him. Toothless rubbed the man's back before he pulled out, and pointed at the paper, and pencil on the table.
*Alright, time to work on The Ultimate Dragon's Love Nest* Toothless spread his wings, and forelegs proudly, *You were sleeping by the time I came back, yesterday Luna, and I had a talk, and she agreed on taking things slow. So I think we'll need to build a place for us in the future.*.
"Cool! What do you have in mind?" Hiccup grabbed the pencil.
*We need a strong door to keep out the cold, a giant bowl for fishes, and of course! A nice bed of coal to keep us warm.* Toothless beamed as Hiccup started the sketching, *But keep it simple though, I will build this nest myself.*.
Hiccup nodded, and sketched the design as Toothless started to yawn. Then Eret came down from the stairs.
"*Good morning!*" Both Hiccup, and Toothless said in union, opening Eret's sleepy eyes with shock.
"I'm sure those two have an explanation." The two laughed as Eret walked toward the back door.
*Can I sleep upstairs?* Toothless asked before the man left.
"Sure! Skullcrusher is up there too.".
*Thanks!*
Toothless walked toward the stairs, and then remembered something.
*I will also have a date this evening. Can you make my solo tail red?* He asked.
"Sure, bud! Get the beauty sleep, I'll get it done after this." Hiccup pointed down at his sketch.
Toothless hopped up the stairs, but Hiccup called his name before he could lie down.
"What is your real name?" Hiccup asked, "Do you have one before you meet me?".
*Now go by Toothless,* Toothless replied, *But if you really want to know, the riddle is: It's a fish, and I could never escape it because now it sits behind what belongs to me, but others use it more than me.*.
That was all he said before he fell asleep next to Skullcrusher.
Astrid walked up behind Hiccup as he was drawing the design of 'The Ultimate Dragon's Love Nest'.
"Something happened last night?" she chuckled.
"Well, it's between Toothless, and Light Fury, Luna? I think." He replied, "I don't know the full details, but Toothless had commissioned me to design their nest, and then he'll build it himself.".
Hiccup held the drawing up with a smile after he finished. Astrid studied the design curiously. Simple tall structure made of rocks with a wooden roof.
"This is nice, you know?" Astrid smiled, "It's not fancy like the hangar stables we built in Old Berk, but strong, and easy for him to build on his own.".
"Yeah, maybe he might even add some of his own flair to it." Hiccup stood up, "By the way, can we talk? I wanna discuss something.".
Hiccup placed the auto-tail fin on the main table in the middle of the forge, preparing the red, and white paint bottles.
"So, what do you wanna talk about?" Astrid asked.
"I'm thinking about Gobber's advice on tying the knot.".
Astrid looked away, not that she didn't love him, but it made her uncomfortable when she couldn't tell what to prepare for, or expecting if they would do it.
"I've always wanted that since I gave you that betrothal gift, but I won't push you into it if you're not ready." Hiccup said as he started painting the tail, "So as I was designing the nest for Toothless, a crazy idea came to me." He smiled, and looked at her, "Astrid, do you want to move in with me?" He asked, "We don't have to marry, but we can try what it would be like if we do, and if it doesn't work out in the end, at least we have tried.".
Astrid smiled, and then pulled her fiancé into a hug.
"Of course." She smiled, "Thank you for understanding me.".
"And I, you." he kissed her forehead.
The couple let go of each other, and then Hiccup finished painting the tail. Bright red with a skull, and Viking horns like the signature tail. Valka, Gobber, and Eret walked to them.
"How's Cloudjumper, and Grump?" Hiccup asked.
"Sleeping," Gobber rolled his eyes.
"Thought-Speaking seems to drain their energy, normally Cloudjumper won't fall asleep this easily." Valka added, "But this is their first time, maybe they just need to adapt.".
"Wait, Thought-Speaking? The thing that Light Fury did?" Astrid asked.
"Yeah, we're still testing it, though." Gobber replied.
"I'll go get Stormfly."
That was all she said before she left the shop.
Toothless opened his eyes, and looked out the window. It's almost time! I need the tail! He thought, and hurried down the stairs.
*Hiccup! The tail!* He called after he came outside, and found Hiccup, Astrid, Gobber, Eret, and Valka gathered around with their dragon.
Hiccup seemed to not hear him, so he nudged his rider's back, making him turn around.
"Sure! Mr. Bossy" Hiccup chuckled, and picked up the red solo fin.
"Thought-Speaking seems to wear off after sleeping" Valka looked at him as Hiccup put the tail on him.
*It tired me out too.* Stormfly added.
*I don't think I'd use it if it's not necessary.* Cloudjumper comment.
*Well, I don't really need it anyway.* Toothless smiled, and tested his tail.
Giving Hiccup a few 'thank you' licks before rushing off to the beach that he, and Luna parted yesterday. Toothless greeted her once she landed in front of him.
*Goodevening, Toothless* Luna returned the greeting, *Where's the good tail?*.
*The solo one, you mean?* Toothless asked, *This is the same one, just with colors.* He explained.
*Ok.* Luna looked at the red tail in disgust.
*So, are you ready?* Toothless tilted his head, *I have so much to show you!* he smiled excitedly.
He has it all planned! He'll slowly expose her to Berkians starting with the easy friendly ones first, this would be easy like just roasting haddock in his mouth!
First love… always the most dangerous one xD The Ultimate Dragon's Love Nest idea is from the deleted scene. Hiccup was a bit too interfering in that one, so I think it would be better if Hiccup plays a part in it, but Toothless still gets to do most of the work himself.
PS. Thank you so much for reading.
Any advice on dating for Toothless? leave it in the comment ;)
