"Jinn?" Amity asked. "That doesn't exactly answer my question." The young woman standing before her; maybe only eighteen years of age, was exotically beautiful. Blonde hair that shimmered in the creeping sunlight coming through the window hung straight down her back and was parted down the middle, brushed to either side of her face. Dark purple eyes contrasted her hair and alabaster skin, and her red dragon leather vest held closely to her torso over top of a dark purple blouse and black leggings. The style was old, but could be considered fashionable with the constellation adorned, black pointed shoes with glittering white gems that decorated the toes and heels.

Jinn placed her hands on her hips and stepped forward, leaning down slightly to look Amity in the eye. Even with her heels, she was only a head taller than Amity, and not as intimidating as she seemed to believe. "You're a sharp one, aren't you? I can see why you're Odalia's prized possession." she said, cleanly avoiding the question. "Now, where is that witch?"

"My mom?" Amity asked. "What do you want with her?"

"Well I'm assuming that she's the one that summoned me again. For wealth and luxury and what have you…" Jinn replied, looking about the room before spotting the uncorked and empty bottle in Amity's hand. "Oh my, isn't this delicious?"

Amity glared at the intruder, curious why abominations hadn't already burst through her door after detecting the woman that was now rummaging through her room, opening several books from Amity's shelves and tossing them aside with a roll of her eyes. "What. Are. You." Amity asked again, annunciating each word to make certain her question was understood.

Jinn grinned, spinning dramatically to face Amity again. "I'm hurt that your mother never mentioned me, but I am so grateful to have a new master. Hopefully you're a bit more creative." she leaned in again to whisper into Amity's ear. "I'm a genie…"

Amity's eyes widened in surprise and realization. She had heard of genies of course. Witches cursed by powerful magic for their selfish behavior, forever relegated to live out eternity in the service of others. Who cursed them, and how selfish one had to be to receive such a curse was anyone's guess, but they could command great power and could bend reality itself to the whim of their masters. "How do you know my mom?" Amity asked, her logical brain taking over as her emotions immediately began coming up with ideas on how to use this development.

Jinn stood up straight, pouting. "I'm a genie, Amity. I can give you your hearts desire; and you want to know how I'm tied to mommy dearest?"

"H-heart's desire?" Amity asked with a stutter.

Jinn continued to smile confidently. "Of course, darling! And you do have a desire in your heart, don't you?" Jinn began pacing back and forth, her fingers steepled as she seemed to guess what Amity wanted. "Is it to lead a Coven to glory in service of your Emperor?" she asked, reaching one end of the room to study the Emperor's Coven recruitment poster, showcasing Lilith Clawthorne. "Nah! You could achieve that on your own." she stated, turning on her heel and strutting to the other side of the room where Amity's Good Witch Azura poster hung on her wall. "Maybe it's to be the hero of your own story, saving the Boiling Isles and all of your friends from tyranny and evil." She stopped. "No. You seem like more of a side character."

Amity continued to glare at the woman, though more out of hurt pride. "What?" she squeaked. "I'm not a side character!"

Jinn pouted and held up her hands in surrender. "My mistake. I'm not here to break any walls. No, you're not looking for fortune or glory. You want something far harder to attain. You…" she started, twirling a finger to draw out a sparkling gold spell circle that hissed and spat with power, and the green memento box in Amity's other hand leaped away from her grasp and into Jinn's. She opened it delicately, as though she was unwrapping a Yule gift, and pulled out the Grom photo of Amity, Luz, Willow, and Gus. "Oh, you want friends! That's so… I want to say sweet, but…" she returned the picture and snapped the box closed again. "Well, pathetic, really. No, you want something more than friends, don't you, you little minx."

Amity blushed despite her annoyance. "Y'know what? Why don't I just call my parents. They don't take kindly to intruders." she said, brushing passed to get to her bedroom door.

Jinn flopped down on Amity's bed, dropping the memento box beside her and stretching out her legs. "Sure! Why not? I'm sure Odalia won't want to know how you got ahold of her genie in a bottle. And besides, who wouldn't want to remain under her parent's tyrannical thumb when she could instead have everything she ever wanted with just a few words?"

Amity's hand stopped on the door knob as she hesitated. "What's the cost?"

Propping herself up on her elbows, Jinn cocked her head to the side. "Who said anything about a cost?"

Amity turned around, keeping her hand on the doorknob. "Release me, I will bring you delight. I can give you what you want, but regret me you might. When the sky falls, I will hear your cry. I can be everything you desire, tell me what am I?" she recited. "What regret would that be?"

"I knew I liked you." Jinn replied, swinging her legs off of Amity's bed and standing, approaching Amity. "Many witches have a tendency to be unspecific in their wishes, that's all. But you? I'm willing to bet that you're smarter than most, am I right?"

"Does this flattery work on most other witches too?"

"And shrewd too! You are a lot like your mother, aren't you?"

Amity growled. "Let's assume for the moment that I take you up on your offer. How does this work?"

"It's easy!" she said, turning away again to approach the window and look out at the estate grounds. "You make a wish, and I fulfill it. Once all of your wishes are complete, I get to go free. It's completely win-win."

"Well, how many wishes do I get?" Amity asked, growing more intrigued. "How do I know anything that happens is even real?"

"What's real?" Jinn replied. "It'll be as real as you are now. As for the wishes, I'm a generous sort, and you're young. I'm going to offer you seven wishes. Bend reality in any way you choose; no limits!"

"Why not eight wishes?"

Jinn glared at her for a moment. "Why not six?"

"Fair enough." Amity replied. "Wait, doesn't that mean you can…"

"Bring back the dead? Make someone fall in love with you? Send someone to their eternal demise? Of course! I'm not some bargain bin genie, I'm the real deal!"

No rules? Could Amity trust herself to have that kind of power? What kind of power had her mother been wielding? "I don't know…"

"It looks like Odalia's done well for herself since we last spoke." Jinn noted, pulling back from the window. "Perhaps a preview is in order? Have a look at your crystal ball…"

Amity turned at Jinn's gesture and approached the crystal ball on her desk. It had turned on by itself, filling with smoke and lighting up with an image of a bit more mature version of herself in a flowing white dress, running through tall orange grass. She leaned in closer to the orb to find the video of herself stretch her arms out and embrace a more mature version of Luz before meeting for a passionate kiss. Both figures pulled away slightly, remaining cheek to cheek as they both peered back at Amity and whispered the phrase, "Make the deal…"

"Oof!" Jinn said, waving a hand to cool herself. "Hard to argue with that."

Amity frowned and looked away. "That's not real though. Luz isn't interested in me. I already learned that."

Jinn appeared beside her in an instant. "That could easily change." she whispered, touching Amity's chin with a finger and turning her gaze back to the crystal ball. The image of herself and Luz as young adults continuing to embrace each other in a way that was making her blush uncontrollably.

Amity began to pace back and forth in her room and she pressed her hands together, holding them to her mouth in thought. Was she responsible enough to hold this much power? Could she make her own, or Luz's life better than it was? Did she have any right to change Luz's life? On the other hand, she was still Hexside's top student. She was the epitome of responsibility when compared to any of the other students, right? And if she could make Luz's life better, didn't she have the responsibility to do so? Or her own? And in that regard, who was to say sharing that better life would be such a bad thing? Amity stopped, spinning to acknowledge Jinn, who had apparently grown bored with her pacing and started tossing books over her shoulder again after flipping through them. "What happens to people affected by the wish? I mean, what if I make a wish that like, erases someone by accident? What happens to them?"

Jinn groaned. "You're really over thinking this. Haven't you ever just done something spontaneous? Y'know, for yourself?"

"I don't know." Amity said, rubbing her tired eyes. She had gotten up early to help Luz train to face Grom, and the battle and party had taken a lot out of her as well. "I can barely think. I wish I wasn't so tired…" she said, feeling the blood drain from her face as she realized what she had just said.

"Done!" Jinn said excitedly with a snap of her fingers. Amity didn't even have time to protest before she felt her eyes rolling up.

"Amity!" her mother called, barging into her bedroom. Amity found herself on her bed, still dressed in her Grom outfit and a puddle of drool running from the corner of her mouth and over her hand. Her scalp was sore after having her hair pulled back into her short ponytail for so long, now dishevelled. "Are you going to sleep all day?"

"Mom?" she asked, looking down at her hand in disgust before wiping it off and flipping her pillow. The abomibutler would be turning over her bed anyway, and she had other things to be concerned about. She shook her head to clear it, feeling remarkably well rested. "What time is it?"

"It's nearly dinner already." Odalia said, storming in and going through Amity's bookshelves. "Why is your room such a mess? Just because you returned as Grom Queen, doesn't give you an excuse to dally. I expect this room to be tidy by tonight."

"Uh, sure…" Amity replied, noticing the swirling, purple smoke filled potion bottle in her hand and gasping quietly, tucking it under her sheets before her mother neared. "I had fun at Grom…"

"Of course you did, dear. You always do when you excel. Now, you haven't happened to see a potion bottle filled with purple and gold smoke, have you? It's… well, it's very dangerous. I would hate for any of you children to hurt yourself with it."

Amity hesitantly shook her head.

"Well, should you find it, please let me know immediately. I've already spoken with your brother and sister. This potion is very important." Odalia assured her. "Now, get cleaned up and finish your homework. You don't want to waste your weekend, after all. Coven tryouts aren't far away."

Amity frowned. "Right. Sorry." she said with a sigh as her mother left her room. She waited until her mother's footfalls descended the stairs before she plunged her face into her pillow and screamed. She reached under her sheets and grasped the potion bottle, removing the cork as she lifted it up. Again, the purple and gold speckled smoke began flooding out of the bottle before forming into Jinn. "I think I'm ready."

Jinn smiled, turning and offering her hand for a handshake. "I'm offering you the ultimate chance to choose your future and who you share it with. You, Amity Blight, have the chance to get out from under the Blight family thumb."

Amity slid off of her bed and looked down at Jinn's outstretched hand and back into her face several times, her frustrated growl growing in volume before she finally made a decision and reached out. The moment she took Jinn's hand, a gold spell circle formed around their hands, sparking and hissing again that caused their hands to glow gold as well. Amity gasped and retracted her hand the moment that she was able. "What was that?!"

"Oh, I'm sure you know an Everlasting Oath spell when you see one." Jinn replied, putting an arm around Amity's shoulders. "Now, you get six more wishes. You have until night fall to decide if you want to keep the wish and make it permanent. If it's not exactly to your liking, just release me from the bottle again and we'll line up your next one."

"Night fall?! But you just wasted most of my day!"

"Correction; you wasted most of your day when you wished for a nap."

"That was not one of my wishes!"

"Oh, contraire, mon Amity. You said 'I wish' and I fulfilled it. That's one down."

She growled and clenched her fists. "Fine!"

"It's like I said, some witches just don't get specific enough." Jinn said casually. "But you, you're a bright Blight. I think we're going to get along famously." Jinn said, guiding Amity to the bedroom door. "Now why don't we get this going, hmm? What's your next wish?"

Amity hesitated for a moment. She knew what she wanted. "I want to be my own person. Fearless. Powerful." she said, pausing as she thought of her words. "And I… I want to be with Luz. In a relationship, y'know?"

"Of course I know! I won't let you down. Now remember, you have to say 'I wish.'" Jinn said, placing a hand on the door.

"Okay. I wish… I wish I was powerful, confident, and happy with Luz." she said with a hopeful, if nervous smile. "Is that specific enough?"

Jinn grinned and opened the door. "I guess we'll find out!" she said, pushing Amity through the door.

Amity found herself standing in the dining room of the manor, holding a cup of tea while she looked out the window. She took in her surroundings as she gathered her senses to find the room was a bit more colorful than usual, and the typical appliances and decorations were all adorned with the various glyphs that Luz used for her magic. The lamps were now floating orbs, rather than the abomination magic powered fixtures that she was used to, and even the furniture was created out of beautiful green vines grown and shaped as needed.

"Mom?!" Amity called, hearing her voice echo through the house. "Dad?!" she called again, but the only noise throughout the building was a slight rattle from her father's workshop in the basement. She set the tea cup and platter down on the table and looked down at herself. She didn't look much different physically, but dressed in dark red slacks and a black blouse. Finding the mirror in the hall, she discovered that her hair was now a soft pink, though still pulled back in a longer pony tail.

A white cloak was draped over the back of a chair. Amity picked it up and inspected it, finding it to be her size and spotting the sigil on her wrist that signified her place in the Emperor's Coven, causing her to smile. "It's all working out."

A series of loud grunts and an explosion erupted from the basement, causing her to jump and she dropped the cloak, running to the entrance to Alador's workshop to find smoke billowing out through the door. She twirled a finger to trace out a spell circle, summoning a gust of wind to guide the smoke up and out through a window. "Dad?!" she called again.

There was no answer other than a fit of coughing and quiet complaining, which wasn't unusual for her father; though the tone of voice was vastly higher. Confused, Amity descended the stairs, keeping her head beneath the smoke that was being forced up the stairs. "Are you okay?" she asked, getting little more than a grumble for her efforts. She reached the bottom of the stairs and inspected the room, expecting to find the typical assortment of abomination parts and construction tables that were always scattered about in various forms of repair or invention. Instead, there were multiple drafting tables, filled with parchments covered in circular glyphs, with pencils worn down into nubs, open journals that seemed to be old enough to come out of the Forbidden Stacks of the Bonesborough Library, with star charts and maps of the Boiling Isles with criss crossing threads connecting various landmarks.

In the center of it all sat a much smaller form than Alador had, though dressed in a similar drab lab coat with dishevelled dark brown hair and a feminine form with black stains on her fingertips. "Luz?" Amity asked cautiously as she approached.

"Hmm?" Luz asked, not bothering to look up from the table she was working at.

"Luz!" Amity shouted, racing forward to wrap her arms around the girl without her usual reservations. The hug was cold however, and Luz shrugged her off.

"I'm working, Amity. If I don't have these abomination glyphs ready for the Emperor in the next day, we can say good bye to our profits this quarter." she said, tapping an odd looking pattern on a nearby post it note that suddenly glowed red, producing a horrifying meaty looking clawed appendage that reached out to grab a clipboard and hand it to Luz.

Amity reluctantly let go and stood behind Luz, confused. "Wait, what? What are you doing?"

Luz turned to her for a moment, annoyed by her interruption. "I'm working. Just like you should be. Why don't you visit the factory and make sure we're still on schedule? You're good at motivating the workers."

Amity stepped back, holding her hands to her chest. "What is this?" she asked herself.
