Ah, here's another chapter. I don't really have a schedule planned, mostly because I'd forget said schedule or repeatedly not meet it. Anyways, enjoy.
Chapter 4
Lightpaw glared at Foxkit, fur bristling.
" Watch where you're going! " She snapped, glaring at Foxkit with an annoyed sort of fury. Darkkit was huddled nearby, his gaze wide.
" I'm… I'm sure it was an accident! " Darkkit said, shivering, taking a step forward. He kept his eyes on the ground, tail twitching nervously. Lightkit rolled her eyes and gave Foxkit another glare.
" Don't you have anything to say for yourself?" Lightkit huffed, tail twitching. Darkkit let out a sigh and blinked apologetically at Foxkit.
" Whoops?" Foxkit said, not bothering to meet Lightkit's eyes. I don't owe you anything. Foxkit thought. Lightkit hissed and whirled around, stalking away. Darkkit hesitated, his gaze switching between Lightkit and Foxkit before taking a few steps towards her. He took another hesitant glance at Lightkit before facing Foxkit.
" I'm sorry about Lightkit. I… Well… she… don't take her seriously please! She just…" Darkkit stuttered out, pausing as he seemed to search for more words. His paws scuffed the ground nervously. Poor Darkkit. Foxkit thought, feeling bad for him.
" No, it's fine. " Foxkit said, nudging the tom kit. He shivered a bit before letting out a sigh of relief.
" Darkkit! " Lightkit stalked back over, fur fluffing up. Darkkit jerked his gaze towards his sister, looking extremely guilty. Foxkit rolled her eyes and sat down, watching Darkkit stumble forward. " I…" Lightkit grumbled something under her breath before replying.
" No, it's fine." Darkkit let his tail drop to the ground. It's ok Darkkit, you don't have to apologize for anything. Foxkit thought almost saying it out loud for him to hear.
Lightkit turned around and looked over her shoulder expectantly at Darkkit, who followed.
A cool breeze blew into camp, slightly ruffling Foxkit's fur as she nibbled at her mouse. Sunset was here Her gaze shifted to the rustling entrance of camp as the last hunting patrol entered camp. She twitched her ears as she watched Quillfeather, Deerleap, and Whiteapple walk through the entrance, carrying prey. Whiteapple glanced towards the nursery, most likely seeing if Leafpaw was cleaning out the nursery with Yarrowpaw.
Well, Leafpaw was, but Yarrowpaw was barely helping. Foxkit wondered why Leafpaw put up with his nonsense in the first place. In Foxkit's opinion it made no sense. Why would anyone put up that? Whiteapple took a few steps towards the nursery before seeming satisfied with whatever answer that she got. Foxkit watched her pad to the fresh kill pile and deposit her prey.
Foxkit glanced at her half eaten mouse before spinning around due to hearing a thump behind her. One of the newer kits had most likely tripped over their own paws and fell. She watched the white kit, Icekit, stumble onto his paws. He seemed fine. She turned around, taking one bite of her mouse before being interrupted by Fernkit almost skidding into her.
" Whoops, sorry! " The one moon old kit said before darting to her brother. " I win!" She chortled, waving her tail in the air. Icekit muttered something under his breath and batted his paw against Fernkit's ear.
Foxkit twitched her ears and turned back to her mouse, trying to finish it before there was another interruption. " I'll win next time! " She heard Icekit proclaim, in which Fernkit only replied with a purr.
After Foxkit finished speed eating the rest of her mouse, she stretched, getting to her paws, grabbing the bones of her mouse and walked towards the edge of camp, pushing the bones under the camp wall.
Foxkit turned around and faced the nursery, which Leafpaw and Yarrowpaw were leaving. Foxkit watched Yarrowpaw shake out his fur and Leafpaw muttered something to him. He said something back, spinning around and darting to the apprentice den, Leafpaw close behind. Her gaze flicked towards where Lightkit and Darkkit were playing. Looks like they're having fun. Foxkit noted, taking a step forward. She paused, deciding that she'd rather not interrupt them. Sure getting hissed at by Lightkit for some stupid reason was mildly interesting at best, but Foxkit figured that there had to be something more interesting.
Her gaze scanned the camp, which was barely busy. Nightstorm was getting ready for his vigil. At least, Foxkit was pretty sure that was what it was called. Foxkit's thoughts were interrupted as Icekit and Fernkit flashed across her vision. Icekit crashed into Fernkit, causing both of them to tumble down to the ground.
" I win!" Icekit crowed, getting to his paws and jumping up and down. Foxkit snorted, shaking her fur and turning away. They're having a good time. She thought, letting her tail drop. Just like Lightkit and Darkkit. Foxkit paused, glancing back at Darkkit and Lightkit. Maybe- Foxkit shook her head. No. She turned around and headed towards the nursery. She saw Rainpool sitting near the nursery, licking her paw.. Rainpool looked up and gave Foxkit a fleeting glance, before looking at the sky.
" Hello Foxkit. " Rainpool said, looking back at her with a friendly gaze. Foxkit met the grey queen's eyes, blinking. " Oh, hi there Rainpool. " She replied, shifting her paws. She brought her gaze to the ground and entered the nursery.
Foxkit heard paw steps as Rainpool entered the nursery. " You're not in trouble, are you? " The queen asked, causing Foxkit to turn around. What have her that idea? She thought, confused.
" No? " Foxkit said, tipping her head. The queen studied the kit before sitting down. Foxkit wondered what was going through the grey queen's mind. " Why?" The kit asked, watching Rainpool.
" Oh! You just looked sad, as if you wanted to do something but couldn't. Maybe as if you got in trouble and had to be left out of something. " Rainpool said, getting to her paws. Had she seen Lightkit?Foxkit thought. " I should go get Icekit and Fernkit before they cause some damage. " She said as she turned around and exited the nursery. Foxkit watched her leave, twitching her ears.
She turned around and headed towards a nest, laying down. She could hear Rainpool calling for her kits. She let out a yawn and closed her eyes, hoping for sleep to come.
