Thank you for everyone who is reading this and reviewing. To those who have no idea what was happening in the last chapter, Sam Greene is originally a nobody, who kind of became a hero for surviving a bullying by the Slytherins. He had some hero worship for Seraphina for saving him in first year, but it got a bit...twisted. He let his hero status go completely into his head, and had been an unofficial leader of the muggleborns. But with that power, he thought himself king, he did not really enslave anyone, Seraphina was taking advantage of the situation to get revenge without getting her hands dirty.
To TheCrimsonShout, SHE IS THIRTEEN! Anyone who gets randomly dragged off by a guy, especially during the Victorian Era that age would be in shock! SHE DOES NOT KNOW MARTIAL ARTS YET! She can't just throw him off physically! Sure, she could've used magic, but she was in SHOCK! She has never been in a situation like that before.
To everyone else, thank you so much for reading and reviewing. I hope you enjoy it.
Chapter 14 Hogsmeade Drama
Seraphina POV
28th October, 1894
Ah yes, three days before Halloween. A joyous day for many students, for it is on this fateful day, that the first Hogsmeade trip of the year shall take place. I walked up towards the hall, meeting up with my friends.
"Seraphina, wait!" Sam Greene yelled.
Oh no. I am not dealing with this. I quickly ducked towards Arcturus and Alvis, as Athena, Hesper and Lestia moved to block me from his view, slightly amused but used to this by now.
"You know, you can probably just tell him to back off and that you are going to Hogsmeade with your friends, like you told Abbot and the muggleborn Ravenclaw trio the other day." Arcturus commented.
"I know, but that will mean I will have to talk to him." I groaned. It was annoying, as much as I want to know what Hogsmeade is like, these trips are a major source of headache, seeing as how most people treated this as an opportunity to go on dates.
"Or just set Aberforth Dumbledore on them." Alvis snickered.
I resist the urge to burrow my head in the sand. Four Gryffindors tried to ask me to go to Hogsmeade with them, while two just accepted my initial rejection, two dared to ask once more.
The problem was that they did that in front of Aberforth.
Aberforth is…difficult. I seemed to have scared the living daylights out of him that day at the duel. Because he immediately jumped in front of those people and tried to hex them, earning him the ire of his own brother. He is convinced beyond a doubt that, and I quote, "She is evil and corrupting you, Albus!"
I mean…Probably true, but still, HEY! And OUCH! He shivered when he saw me in the halls, and tried to throw food at me at meals. It's like the orphanage all over again. He apparently got into multiple arguments with Albus over this, according to Albus, who tried to apologise for his behaviour, frequently. His aggression earned him an enemy out of Slytherin, who will not stand to let me get bullied, even if it might be just for their image of strength and unity. Which resulted in a lot of duels in hallways, and Slytherins in the hospital wing.
Honestly, I am surprised by Aberforth's immense potential in duelling. While he is nothing compared to his brother in terms of power and intelligence, he was still significantly above average in both. He dodges most spells almost intuitively, and has a great eye for openings in his enemy's defences, sending overpowered spells towards his opponents to overwhelm them quickly. Quite impressive, if I do say so myself. But I digress. His hexing skills, as demonstrated to anyone who tried to ask me out, was more than enough to keep potential Gryffindor and Ravenclaw suitors away.
Hesper stifled a laugh. "For everything that you have managed to do to Slytherin and you can't get rid of a single muggleborn."
"He's persistent, alright?" I grumbled. Greene was like a piece of dirt stuck to your shoe that I simply can't get rid of. It is amazing how thick his skull is, since he still can't get the hint that I do not enjoy being anywhere near him at all.
I have never been so glad that the duel between Albus and I scared so many people. Most Slytherins who had considered asking me to Hogsmeade shied away soon after the duel. My status as a halfblood is obviously not pure enough for marriage for their families, and those who want to shag and ditch?
They would rather pick a target that they know can't casually cut their manhood off.
The few Slytherins who did ask, simply inclined their head and accepted when I declined, getting the hint that I don't want to date anyone. I declined all of them, telling them that I would prefer to spend my first trip with my female friends, in a girls night out style. Athena and Lestia were pretty enthusiastic, seeing that their betrothed are older wizards who have already graduated, while Hesper was a bit more hesitant. I don't really blame her, in all fairness, Sirius Black is not hideous at all, and getting to know your fiance does seem logical, especially when they are not an older person you have barely met before, to be honest.
But Hufflepuff was another story.
At first, I was very relieved that not a single Hufflepuff had even approached me to ask me out. Except for Greene, who kept trying to find me. I dodged every single one of his attempts, and other Slytherins shielded me during the meals, leaving him with no chance to talk to me at all. It got so bad that Hesper told Sirius, who volunteered to help guard our little group.
Sirius can be pretty intimidating when he wants to be, and his betrothal to Hesper gave him a sense of obligation to fend off anyone she asks him to. But then, I should have known that something was probably wrong, from the curious gazes followed by chuckles and whispers the girls in Hufflepuff sent me as I passed them in the hallway.
I just did not get an explanation until the day of the Hogsmeade weekend.
I was walking towards the gate with the rest of my group, while Athena chattered to me excitedly about the shops in Hogsmeade, when someone suddenly yelled my name.
"Seraphina, Seraphina! Oh there you are, darling! Come on, we haven't got all day!" Sam Greene yelled. Beckoning at me to come towards him, as he walked obnoxiously towards my group. His loud and obnoxious voice attracting many students towards us, hoping to watch a spectacle, quickly forming a crowd.
"Why are your friends with you? We don't need an escort, shoo! I can handle her just fine." He dismissed my friends, walking towards me.
I froze in my tracks. What. The. Hell? What is even happening? How dare he dismiss my friends! How dare he say he can handle me? I am no cattle to be handled! Frozen in my shock and seething, I did not notice until he actually put his arm over my shoulders, tangling his fingers in the ends of my hair. Instantly, I tried to shove his arm off.
"Let go!" I struggled in vain.
But he only laughed, tightening his hold.
Around us, several purebloods and halfbloods gasped at his rudeness, pointing and whispering at his behaviour. My group was likewise frozen, while Hesper and Lestia looked scandalised. Grabbing someone, especially their hair, when the person is obviously unwilling, is very rude and kind of taboo in the wizarding culture after all. It makes sense when being this close means that the person can just pluck a hair and brew polyjuice and steal another's identity and ruin their life and reputation. As I struggled, he began slowly dragging me towards the gate to my chagrin. At this, most purebloods reacted, they formed an intimidating wall between him and the gate, to his oblivion and my relief.
"So, I was thinking first stop Honeydukes, then Zonko's before tea at Madam Rosmerta's and finally a kiss next to the lake. Then maybe a little more in a broom closet, if you catch my drift, eh?" He smirked, trying to plant a kiss on my forehead.
Okay! That was too far! Instinct and self preservation kicked in and I threw his arm off with strength I did not realise I possessed, shoving him away from me, just as Athena, Hesper and Lestia whipped out their wands, stepping in front of me and pointing them towards him. Around us, several students whispered, wondering about the actual relationship between the two of us. I straightened my robes. I will NOT be humiliated by this idiot!
"Woah woah woah, why the aggression, ladies?" Greene asked, smirking cockily while raising his hands in mock surrender.
"Who do you think you are to drag Seraphina around?" Athena snarled.
"Why, I am her beau of course!" He smiled, trying to move closer to me once more. Several purebloods looked disapprovingly towards me.
"What makes you think that?" I snapped, glaring at him. Who does this arsehole think he is? Trying to ruin my reputation? Turning me into a harlot in the eyes of the purebloods? The crowd around us whispered even more furiously.
"Aww, don't be poked up! Everyone knows you have loved me since first year. I am simply granting your wish! Come, let's stop wasting time on this nonsense and go!"
Okay, this idiot needs to be knocked off a notch, is he seriously thinking that I saved him out of something as stupid as love?
"Let's get this straight." I snapped, walking towards him, my group reluctantly parting for me. "I don't love you, I have no feelings for you at all, and most importantly, I am not, and will never be your will beau. Now leave." I sneered.
"What do you mean you won't go? Come on, you're mine! Everyone knows that!" He argued.
"First off, I am never, and will never be yours. Secondly, you never even asked me if I would even want to go to Hogsmeade with you, and even if you did, I would have refu-"
"Yeah, yeah, I should have told you we are going together first, but who cares! I gave you gifts! I gathered the muggleborns, training them to be slaves for us! Women like you are only good for giving birth and serving men like me anyway, your opinion doesn't matter! You are coming with me whether you like it or not, right now! You are mine!" He cut me off, yelling and grabbing my hand, ignoring the furious shouts from the muggleborns and purebloods alike.
I shook him off. Wow! I thought he was just annoying, but this is waay overboard! How dare he even think with that much sexism! Who even monologues about making people his slaves in front of said slaves? Not to mention the direct attack! Seriously, this guy is digging his own grave, does he really not care that he is breaking so many taboos at once? Not counting the hair grab, there were at least four! Besmirching a young woman (my) honour by being suggestive, grabbing me, going directly against a witch's will and trying to force me to accept him, and finally, trying to force a halfblood to become a mudblood (his) slave! While sexism is strong and still exists in the wizarding world, the ground rules and rights for women still exist! Witches may be expected to be trophy wives, true, but never to serve men, we are witches, not house elves! As a potential future lady of a house, and a mother, and the first person to teach children magic, witches' opinions do matter! In fact, it is one of the reasons why pureblood witches are expected to do well in their first few years of school, and why most do not get to continue their education after marriage.
I was trying to be civil, but clearly, a barbarian like him can only understand grunts and pain. Fine! I will make this statement in a language he can understand!
Whipping out my wand and I pointed it straight at his heart. He blanched at the sight of four wands held by four fuming witches suddenly pressed against his chest and finally backed away slightly, finally remembering that I am the one who defeated Albus in a duel last month.
That's more like it.
"I am saying this one last time. I will never, ever, look at you and think of a man. I never have and will never like you or be your beau. You will never enslave anyone and succeed. Now leave before I kill you." I growled.
Anger seeping from my body, my magic tense and ready like a coiled spring underneath the surface of my skin. I relished the sensation. I will not hesitate to give him exactly what he deserves if he crosses me this time.
With each sentence I said, his face turned into a deeper shade of red. His fists tightened. But in the presence of my wand, he backed away slowly, still seething.
"Yeah? Fuck you! Do you think anyone else would ever be interested in you, you freak? You are lucky that I even took pity on you!" He yelled.
I wonder if the headmaster would blame me if I quartered him and used him as target practice? Would I need to get rid of the body myself? Ugh, how am I going to get rid of the blood? Deep breath, do not curse him into oblivion, think about how much it would suck to ruin your outfit, Azkaban is not worth it, there are too many witnesses. I chanted a few times, as he backed away, scoffing. I slowly lowered my wand, as much as I wanted to, cursing him would get me into a world of trouble, and I really want to go and enjoy Hogsmeade instead of my perfect record of zero detentions. So I turned around to leave.
Big mistake.
"You belong to me! Now get here or I will make you! Incarcerous!" Greene suddenly yelled, lunging towards me.
My instinct screamed for me to duck, so I did, pulling Athena in front of me down at the same time, in that exact second a spell flew past our heads. We dodged the spell by less than a hairbreadth. It sailed through the air for over 50 yards, before colliding with a first year muggleborn's throat. He fell to the ground, completely bound like a Christmas Turkey, choking and struggling desperately to untie the deadlock of rope on his neck, his limbs rapidly turning purple.
Crap! Can't Greene even cast an incarcerous properly? Now the poor kid is being strangled alive and his limbs are going to die because of the lack of fresh blood! Seeing how everyone else is either screaming and running or frozen in shock, I accio'ed the poor kid, before shoving him into Athena's hands. Looking at me, she instantly understood the task I set her, so she nodded, she turned and grabbed Hesper and Lestia, the three of them quickly moved to the side, working to free the kid and out of my way.
Okay, time to knock the fool off his high horse. I turned to face Greene. I flicked my wand out, instantly, an unnatural wind began whipping around me, as blue and green flames poured from the tip of my wand. I raised my wand, as if drawing it through water not air. The flames continued pouring from my wand, spitting gold and black sparks as it drifted in the air above me in a vague helix, merging and shifting, shaping itself into a whip. Greene paled, his eyes widened.
"D-Diffindo!" He casted, while backing away, the look of absolute horror filled his face, when I flicked my wand slightly, his spell was casually consumed by the flames with a loud CRACK.
Ha! He thinks that his measly spell can defeat my fire whip? Think again!
He turned to run, only to be pushed back towards me by a bunch of furious muggleborns. I think I underestimated the fury of the muggleborns, they had their wands out, each pushing him in my direction, backing him towards me. I swung my wrist and wand in a vague circle, the whip whistling through the air, even though this is not necessary, I like to induce more panic in him for how annoying he is, before flicking it towards him. The flames quickly surrounded him, bounding him in uncomfortable heat, flinging his wand into a wall. Now I just needed to decide what to do with him.
I looked up past his terrified gaze, seeing the angry faces of the students all around me, an idea blossomed in my mind…Maybe I can get revenge on him without getting my own hands dirty, I just need to say the perfect sentence to light the spark that will blow their temper like a bomb. I walked towards him.
"Never even think about trying to enslave people to your will. You will always fail, for I will fight, to my dying breath, for freedom against wannabe tyrants like you." I sneered.
Silently, I conjured ropes through my flames, as I slowly cut off my spell, the flames vanishing into nothing with a blue flash. Turning to go towards Athena and Hesper. The angered muggleborns quickly rushed in behind me, each trying to get their share of him, cursing him for trying to subjugate them to be his slaves. The purebloods and halfbloods also follow suit.
I paused, if this turns into a murder, it will be bad for me and everyone else involved, tilting my head slightly towards the group, it would be best to give them a reminder. "Try not to kill him, he is not worth being sent to Azkaban for."
Note to self; never let anyone know you are making them your slave, even if that was exactly what you were doing, or break long established taboos that rudely, because the best slave is one whom believes themselves to be free.
I went back to meet Athena, Hesper and Lestia, who cut off the last of the ropes as I arrived. I took one look at the damage, there is no way I can heal this. I am still just a novice at healing, and there is no way I am testing my necromantic healing skills on him. He needs potions as far as I can tell. I quickly conjured a stretcher, there is too much damage on the kid right now, any spell I cast directly on him may make my magic interfere with him and I am not risking killing someone accidentally when I just calmed down from almost doing so purposely!
"Help me carry him to the hospital wing." I commanded.
Hesper, Lestia and Athena nodded. We each took up one end of the polls of the stretcher, gently pushing the poor kid onto it. Leaving for the hospital wing. Inwardly, I sighed, I guess Hogsmeade will have to wait.
Third person POV
Seraphina and her group left the scene. Behind them, it was chaos. For the first time in Hogwarts history, purebloods teamed up with halfbloods and muggleborns just to hex a single person. The purebloods are incensed by the blatant breaking of so many customs this muggleborn performed, while the muggleborns where incensed by his attempt to make them his slaves. The halfbloods were angry at him for both.
To the side of this chaos, Sirius Black and Septimus Malfoy whispered at each other as they observed the pandemonium.
"I never thought I would see the day that purebloods and mudbloods join together for a worthy cause." Sirius Black commented.
"I guess they do have some common sense after all. With how much they tried to taunt us Slytherins in the past two years…I never thought they were organised." Came the reply of one Septimus Malfoy.
"In that case, Astrum might be right, magic, as a gift, does put most of us above the barbarity of muggles, she might be much more perceptive and powerful than we first thought."
"We should keep a closer eye on her. Someone with her brains and power? I have a feeling she will revolutionise the world, both ours and the muggles."
Unbeknownst to the two of them, they were observed by an eleven year old boy, with reddish-brown hair and piercing blue eyes. His eyes widened at the conversation he overheard. Turning to look at the commotion, he gasped. In the second when the crowd briefly parted, he saw a person laying in the centre, his clothes torn and bloody, his features were beyond all recognition. Stumbling back in fear, he turned and ran. Terrified tears spilling down his cheeks, all of this happened because of a few words from her, he needed to get Albus away from her, before it's too late. Vowing to make people see the monster that was Seraphina Astrum, Aberforth Dumbledore ran like a bat fleeing hell.
Hours later, Sam Greene is removed from the scene on a conjured stretcher. He was sent to St Mungo's for spell damage and not seen for the next six months.
For once, not a single person, pureblood, halfblood or otherwise, ratted each other out, regardless of the threats given by the Professors, and the first bridge of commanderie between them was built.
…And it was all because of an idiot named Sam Greene.
