Turning over in bed bright green eyes opened at the sound of buzzing. Running a hand through his chocolate hair he spun to his computer. The screen glowed with various untranslatable symbols that shifted and changing every few seconds. Confused by the code he grab his smartphone making his way to the computer. As he neared the computer he prepared to make a quick call before his phone began to buzz. Turning his attention to his phone he raised a brow in confusion. An app he had no memory of downloading had appeared on his phone. It looked to be a game of sorts but what kind of game installs itself without even a permission screen?
Nathan Hawkins was reluctant to even get out of bed in the morning. Hair like melted chocolate and eyes like emeralds he was pleasantly average. The game in question was known as simply as "Digimon" and installed a digital pet on the user's phone. At least that's what the rumors said some say it summoned monsters to our world. No one knew how it got on to their phone unless they had it and even then no one believed them.
Turning his attention back to the computer the code had stopped. The screen was blank save for a video chat window waiting to be opened. With a click, an image appeared on the screen of a man in his thirties his golden hair shining in the dim light. His eyes were hidden by reflective shades and he wore a dark suit. In his hand, he held an expensive-looking smartphone the silver glowing against his black glove. The screen showed some kind of superhero in blue and white tight and a red scarf just barely visible.
"Welcome to the game Mr. Hawkins you better pick your player soon. I'd hate for you to be left out of the fun." The man said calmly
"Wait who are you? What is Digimon? What is this game you created ?" Nathan asked glaring into the man's shades
"You may call me Mr. Knight and this game is simple you fight to win the last Digimon standing wins. As for what a Digimon is it's obvious digital monsters." Mr. Knight stated gesturing to his phone
Suddenly the video cut out and Nathan returned to his bed looking at his computer. Hesitantly he clicked the Digimon app opened and was met with a selection screen. His choices were that of the six natural elements with one calling out to him. With little thought he selected Darkness watching as the app began to load. A character selection appeared he had three choices to pick from. The first being what looked like an elegantly dressed vampire wearing a bright red mask. The second was a Cerberus with the claws on its front legs were long blade-like claws. The final choice looked like a biker with a demonic tail and three glowing red eyes. Taking a calming breath he selected the biker receiving a chuckling in response.
The screen flashed and the chuckle echoed in the dark of the room. Turning on his flashlight he scanned the room his eyes landing on something sitting in his desk chair. As the light hit it he released a girly scream jumping backward in surprise. Perch on his desk chair was a humanoid reptile dressed like a biker down to a pair of spiked boots. Leaning back in the chair the creature studied him crossing his arms tapping his clawed fingers on his arm. Rolling his eyes the beast sighed to himself nudging the bed with his booted foot.
"Looks like I'm stuck with you amigo got any eats?" The creature asked giving him another nudge
"There might be something in the kitchen I'm not sure what I got, to be honest," Nathan muttered
Just as his feet touched the floor the monster had already left the room. As he reached his modest kitchen he found the demonic beast standing in front of his microwave. The monster's scary appearance was contradicted by him watch the digital numbers and clapping like an excited child. Stepping closer Nathan could see what looked to be a large burrito spinning on a plate. As the timer dinged the beast swiftly removed the plate gliding to his small sitting area.
"Alright amigo take a seat we got words to share." The monster mutter munching on his snack
With a kick, the chair across from the monster rattled out into the floor. Taking a seat Nathan watched the monster studying him for finding him peaceful. The monster tapped its fingers along the small table continuing to nibble on his treat. Taking a deep calming breath Nathan narrowed his eyes glaring at the beast. Leaning back in his seat he crossed his arms mimic the beasts pose from earlier.
"So you're a Digimon?" he asked in confusion
"The name's Beelzemon amigo," Beelzemon muttered popping the final bite in his mouth
"So um you're my partner in this game?" Nathan inquired tilting his head to the side
"Bingo and the game has begun." Beelzemon stated glancing out the nearby window
Just what would this game foretell for them Nathan wondered. Would it lead to friends or enemies possible both with his luck. Resting his head on the table he pulled out his phone as it began to buzz. Glancing at it the screen was full of a strange silhouette that seemed to pulse like a heartbeat. With lightning speed, Beelzemon Jumped up drawing a shotgun with a flick of his wrist. Spinning it on his finger he fired through the window.
"The hell Beelzemon!" Nathan exclaimed jumping from the table
"Put on your big boy pants partner something's out there," Beelzemon announced turning to him jumping out the destroyed window
