Mikoto awoke in the double bed, an arm around her, holding her tight to a boy's chest. She slowly opened her eyes and looked up to see the face of her boyfriend, who was the one holding her tight, sleeping soundly. The sunlight shone into the room and onto the couple, completely ignoring the large, white curtains that were doing a miserable job of holding it back.
She looked over her boyfriend's shoulder to the small bedside table and the alarm clock on top of it that read 12:38 pm. It was already approaching time for lunch, and they hadn't even gotten out of bed. Normally, she would have been up by that time, even when she was on holiday, but they had been exhausted from the previous night and were in no rush to get up, even now.
However, Mikoto's stomach had other ideas, as it started audibly rumble, begging for food. A request that Mikoto couldn't fill, as Touma was holding her in a vice-like grip with his right arm, meaning his right hand was holding her as well, sealing off her powers.
"Touma," she tried, keeping her voice low, to try to wake him slowly, however he didn't so much as stir.
"Touma," she tried again raising her voice a little, still with no response.
She tried again and again, raising her voice little by little until she was screaming his name, and yet he still showed no signs of waking.
"TOUMA! WAKE UP!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. This clearly wasn't working, so she tried softly kicking him, but even that stirred no reaction. In the end, drastic times called for drastic measures. Mikoto flung her head back and, with as much force as she could muster, slammed her forehead into his.
It worked like a charm.
Touma woke with a start, letting go of Mikoto and holding his head, rolling around the bed in clear pain from the strike. Unfortunately, his eyes were closed, and he didn't realise how close to the end of the bed he was.
Mikoto grimaced as she heard him hit the ground with a thud.
"Owwwww. Rotten Luck," Touma complained as he slowly recovered and slowly got to his feet. He looked at the brown-haired electro master still lying in the bed. "Did you really have to hit me? You could've just called out to me or tapped me or something."
"Touma, I was screaming at you and kicking you. I didn't have many more options," Mikoto defended, but before Touma could reply, the pair heard a commotion coming from outside the door.
"I heard her screaming his name, multiple times, Kazari. They're in the same bed, they're dating. Why wouldn't they be doing it?"
"Ruiko, Mikoto was from Tokiwadai. She's a proper young lady. She wouldn't do that when she's so young."
"You've known her as long as me. When has she ever acted 'lady-like'? I'd also like to point out Kuroko also went to Tokiwadai."
"Well, she was also shouting 'wake up' so there's no way they could be doing what you think they are."
"That's all part of the ruse, Kazari. They're trying to deceive us."
"You don't think we're going to have grandchildren soon, do you? They're too young to be doing this sort of stuff. We should stop them," said Shiina, who, for some reason, was starting to believe Saten's theory.
"Relax, honey. They're young, we should let them-"
Touya wasn't able to finish his sentence as Mikoto, fully clothed with her green gekota pyjamas, opened the door, bluish white sparks surrounding her body and not looking too pleased.
"What exactly do you lot think you're doing?" she asked, cracking her knuckles.
"She was just trying to wake me up, guys! Get your heads out the gutter!" Touma shouted from inside the room.
This seemed to put Shiina at ease, however the other three looked almost disappointed. Something that Mikoto didn't fail to notice, but before she could make a scene herself, a familiar voice called her from the hallway.
"Mikoto? Is everything alright? What's going on here?" asked a woman who looked like she might have been Mikoto's older sister.
"Mama?"
"Surprise! Shiina was talking to me about this little holiday of yours and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see my daughter again," Misuzu Misaka explained, cheerfully. Mikoto looked at her mother and back at Shiina and, knowing the amount of teasing both she and Touma would be receiving from the two friends, there was only one thing she could say.
"Rotten Luck."
After Misuzu dumped her suitcase in her room, which was next to Saten and Uiharu's, the group finally, in Mikoto's stomach's opinion, went to a café across the road from the hotel to get something to eat. Touma was glad Index hadn't made a surprise visit as well, otherwise she would have already cleaned out the café's food stock.
They spent about an hour there, discussing their flights, including a certain red-haired girl whose snoring kept Touma up throughout his flight, as well as their plans for the rest of the holiday. Once they finished, they split into two groups with the students in one group and the adults in the other.
The Academy City students decided to visit the Eiffel Tower first as Saten was almost on her knees begging to go. Of course, with it being the middle of the day and summer, the waiting line was ridiculous. They were stuck there for nearly three hours, but they were eventually able to pay their fee and get in.
They used the stairs to get to the elevators on the second floor, which then took them to the top. When the doors opened, Saten ran to the railing, jumping up and down as she looked out over the city. There was a metal fence on the other side of the railing to provide stop people from falling off, but most people still wouldn't have been so quick to reach the railing.
"Hey, Kazari, come here, the view up here is incredible!" she called over her girlfriend, but when she looked back, Uiharu's focus, as well as Touma's and Mikoto's, were focussed on something to her right. Specifically, some one.
A girl with long, flowing bright red hair, Luna. She leaned on the railing, completely separated from everyone else. She almost seemed to repel everyone away from her, as if her presence seemed to scare them for some reason. Maybe, they saw her mood and decided to leave her be or maybe, she snapped at someone earlier and everyone decided it was best to stay away. Whatever the reason was, there was now plenty of empty room around her to have a private conversation.
"Fancy seeing you guys here," Luna said, noticing the group behind her.
The group stared at her, unsure of how to approach this interaction. After what they had seen last night, her sister's willingness to kill someone who had already been defeated, they were a bit worried about what Luna would do, despite her siding with Touma and Mikoto.
"You don't have to worry," Luna said. "Wen and Ez aren't here."
"Where are they?" Touma asked.
"Kanzaki took them back to England, most likely they'll be getting some sort of punishment. From Kanzaki or the Archbishop, I'm afraid I don't know."
"That's something at least, but why would they do something like that, Luna? He was already beaten, hell, he was unconscious," Mikoto asked.
"I'm afraid I don't understand it fully myself, but I think part of it is due to a bit of a misunderstanding. We were always taught to go for the kill when we're fighting someone who's trying to kill you."
"Who would teach you to fight like that and why?"
"My parents."
"Huh? You mean Mrs Arikimo? Isn't she part of Anti-skill? Are students safe with those two around?" Mikoto asked, already wondering what to do about them, but Luna quickly corrected her.
"You don't have to worry," she explained. "Most of the people they deal with don't really want to kill them, and those who do usually aren't too difficult to deal with without hurting them. Besides a certain P.E teacher would have their heads if they tried anything." Luna mumbled the last part.
"And those who are, like the members of the old dark side of Academy City?"
"They stayed away from that, but that issue is a lot more complicated and hopefully you'll never have to worry about that."
That got the group curious, but Luna quickly moved the conversation on before they could ask about it.
"But, I agree, Wendy went way too far. He was already beaten, the fight was over, there was no need to kill him. I don't think that's why Mum and Dad taught us what they did."
"You say that as if it would be fine to kill him before he lost," Mikoto noted.
"Sometimes, that's the only option. Thankfully, I've never been in that situation, but it can be kill or be killed. If you don't give everything to kill your opponent, you'll be killed yourself."
"You're wrong, Luna," Touma spoke up. "It doesn't matter what the situation is, there's always a way for everyone to smile afterwards. Trust me, I've fought hundreds of people before, people who by all accounts should have killed me a hundred times over, but in the end, we found a way. A way to settle our differences and go home, smiling."
"I just wish that was possible for every fight," Luna said, eyes drifting towards the ground.
"It is," Mikoto argued. "And if you ever think it's not, or that you can't find a way to make it so, then you can call us. We'll be there to help you out."
"She's right," Touma agreed. "You just need to call us, and we'll be there."
Luna smiled.
"Thank you, I'm not sure I can rely on you for everything, but if there's something I can use your help with, I'll call you, don't worry."
"That's more like it," Mikoto said, smiling back at her.
"Nice, now that that's sorted, do we know why that Ezio guy was after us?" Touma asked.
"Afraid not," Luna said. "He was only just taken to England; I don't know if they've started questioning him yet. As for his boss, he was found dead in one of his casinos earlier this morning. The police have started investigating, but it might take a while."
"Don't suppose there are any suspects yet?" Mikoto asked.
Luna shook her head.
"None yet, it's way too early. I suspect it might have been Academy City, though. With their information network, it wouldn't take them long to find out what was happening and who was behind it. I wouldn't be surprised if they knew what was happening before Ezio made his first move," Luna speculated.
"I don't think it's Academy City," Mikoto interrupted. "The current Board Chairman, as much as he's an ass, wouldn't just kill people without question, not anymore at least."
"How do you know?"
"Because we know him pretty well," Touma explained. "But we can't talk too much about that."
"Can we talk about something a little lighter?" Saten asked.
"Yeah, we're supposed to be on holiday, guys. Let's enjoy it," Uiharu agreed.
"They're right. Why don't you join us, Luna? You're on your own now, right? When do you go back?" Mikoto asked.
"A week today, my flight's at twelve."
"Perfect, that's the same as us. We'll probably be on the same flight."
"I'm not sitting next to her," Touma stated.
"And why the hell not?" Luna asked, offended.
"Because I want to get some sleep on that flight and not have to listen to you snoring again!" Touma shouted.
"I don't snore!" Luna shouted back.
"You were snoring pretty loud on the flight here!"
"No I wasn't! You must have just imagined it!"
The three girls around them started laughing as the two of them started getting into a full-on argument about whether or not Luna snored and how loudly she did. At least until fists started flying. Apparently, Luna didn't like it when someone accused her of snoring. Mikoto had to electrocute the pair of them to get them to stop, making sure to avoid Touma's right hand.
And that's the end of the first arc, again. This acted like a second draft more than anything tbh. I had only started re drafting my arcs for the second arc, so I wanted to be able to redraft this arc as well, even if just to fix a few things.
The next arc I release will be a short arc that will be after the 'To Rescue A Hero' arc, however that might take a few weeks, as I haven't been able to get too much done recently and now I have Covid, which is preventing me from even having access to my computer, so I won't be able to write anything for the next week or so.
Now for the comments.
Guest: The parents will be pretty powerful, however, I don't intend to use them that often, only for low-risk situations, and a few events that will progress their stories. There is an in story reason for this, which I'll go into full detail later in the story.
And there we have it, I hope everyone enjoyed this redraft of the first arc, and I should be back soonish for the next arc. Until then, I hope everyone has a good week. Bye.
