During the twelve season's of Blue Bloods the writer's have given pretty much a cohesive story of the family that is the Reagan's, however season 12 began to falter on this cohesion in that many topics where mentioned but lacked follow through. Season 11 ended with Danny finally asking Maria out yet season 12 completely ignored that possibility by not only not giving Maria a story line to grasp to but ending the season by giving her an adoptive baby. Is this the signaling that Maria will be written out of the series?
Jamie's and Eddie's love story brought the series some of it's highest ratings and anticipation yet season twelve ended with a superficial tease
Eddie : Hey, you ready to leave?
Jamie: Just about
Eddie: How was your day?
Jamie : Uneventful
Eddie: That's not what I heard
Jamie: How about yours?
Eddie: Same
Jamie: That's not what I heard
Eddie: Well, you tell me about yours, I'll tell you about mine
Jamie: How about you show me yours, I'll show you mine
Eddie: You know how much I love show- and- tell
Again the writers missed a great opportunity is not going after the passion that resides in Jamie and especially Eddie whose character is a firecracker ready to explode.
Erin's character has always been hard as nails when it comes to her work yet season twelve turned her into a marsh mellow when it came to making a decision about the D.A. job.
Abigail's character continued to be the dutiful office wife that control's 1PPP, yet the writer's failed to show how important and needed she is for Frank Reagan to continue being the commissioner and for the series to have additional life to it
Danny was the most misused character in all of season 12, the writer's had him as a lost soul searching for a purpose and a reason for being there. Having him partner up with a Texas Ranger, going solo, and Anthony while leaving Maria out of the picture was not a good mix to the script for an on going story line
Now that I have critiqued the actual Season 12 of the series I find myself wondering as to how my interpretation of how season twelve should have ended and how my story line would continue. I found myself thinking of different conversation that would be taking place in different times in the future
Six months from now
Frank: Abbey …. How did your doctor's check up go… everything is alright… isn't it?
Abbey: I'm fine… but I'm not sure how you will be
Frank: Abbey….. you've never pulled your punches… so what makes you think this will be any different
Abbey: Frank….. let's just say after your Prostate Surgery… you had a few bullets left in your gun…. We are going to have a baby….. how do you feel about that?
Frank: At my age… shocked… surprised…. You mean I actually got you pregnant
Abbey: who else could've of gotten me… let's face it after the surgery you became a kid with a new toy…. I wasn't complaining ….but I didn't think we could make a baby so I stopped all my birth control. Tell me what you really think
Frank: I've loved two women in my life….that first love gave me four beautiful children….. you are now giving a fifth child…. I'm happy….. but sad also…. I've gotten to see my first four grow up with families of their own… but this one I won't be so lucky
Abbey: She will always know how much she was loved and that I loved her daddy very much
Frank: You said she…. Do you think it's going to be a girl
Abbey: I hope so… I've always wanted a daughter
Nine Months later
The Reagan family has all gathered at the hospital for the arrival of Francesca Reagan who will be called Frannie for short.
Frank tells Garrett that he wants to hold a press conference
Frank: I would like to congratulate the newly elected mayor and give a special congratulations to my daughter , newly elected DA Erin Boyle… I always new you could do it. I've been police commissioner for four different administrations….. now it's time... that for me to take a different path and become a full time father… I've given the new mayor my resignation so that he can choose a police commissioner of his choosing. I want to thank all the men and women of the NYPD for doing their very best in serving and honoring the citizens of New York City… you've did a job that many wouldn't do… as my last official act I like to salute you all…. A job well done and I thank you for your service.
Frank leaves the stage and heads to Abbey with a smile and tears in her eyes holding Frannie in her arms
Frank: Let's go home
With Frank's resignation DA Erin Boyle asks Garrett Morris to become her spokesperson and public liaison for the D.A. 's office.
Sid Gormley has worked for the NYPD for over 30 years ….. without Frank Reagan at the helm he too decided it was time to put in for retirement and enjoy his time with his wife and family
The three Reagan Men continued their paths in the NYPD, Danny eventually became Captain of the Detectives removing himself from the everyday investigations.
Jamie followed his Father's footsteps and rose in the ranks until he to was considered as a candidate for Police Commissioner which he eventually became
Joe Hill Reagan took Sean Reagan under his wing and they became the hotshot detectives in the shadow of Danny Reagan
Jack and Sandy Reagan worked as lawyers in the DA's office and became permanent staff to Erin Reagan Boyle as she went from the DA's office to Mayor and eventually The Governors office.
The future of the Reagan grandchildren can best be described in a conversation that Eddie , Maria and Abbey had during one of their weekly girls luncheon
Eddie: I don't know if I should be happy or peeved at Danni for introducing to her new model friends
Maria: I still can't believe that Danni is a model …. Which friends are you talking about
Abbey: Frannie hasn't stopped talking about those identical triplet girls
Eddie: Justin, Jeremy and Johnathan have the hots for them… they are pretty with that light blonde hair, but their names… Amber, Tiffany and Jewel why would a mother condemn them to bimbo status
Maria: aren't you being a little to harsh… have you met them….. Danni says they are really smart
Abbey: Eddie how quickly you forget… you were the hot blonde in a police uniform, driving her rich daddy's sports car
Eddie: but I wasn't a model…. They are dressed in those skimpy cloths trying to seduce those stupid boys whose brains are between their legs
Maria: who did they inherit that from…. Against All Odds video queen
Eddie: you'll never let me forget that… it was fun though
Abbey: At least the boys take care of Danni and Frannie… they get such chuckle calling her Aunt Frannie and she gets so made a them…. We are lucky they got each others back…. The kids today aren't like we were
Maria: they go after what they want…. In a way I admire that… sitting back waiting for something to happensure waisted alot of time on our part
Eddie: can you imagine if my boys go after those triplets and they get married…. They will be a rabbit breeding farm….. Can you imagine how many Reagan's will pop out
Author's note: I've decided to end this story on a what if note…. As I stated earlier when the storylines don't have a direction the story begins to falter, thus loosing some of it's enjoyment. I would like to thank the many readers that have enjoyed my take on the Blue Bloods Saga.
