Drabble 70: Truth or Dare?
A/N: Hey guys! Sorry I took so long to update. I've been writing like crazy for The Corrupted Shield. But here's the next drabble! Requested by IJMRbook. Hope you like it!
"Why do we have to go through this?" Skye asked.
Fitz looked over to her and couldn't help but laugh. The techie was lying on the couch upside down, her head hanging off the end of the couch and her feet draped over the back.
"Apparently we need to be evaluated because of all the stressful situations we've been involved in recently." Jemma said.
"But why do we have to be confined to this room?"
"That does seem like overkill." Bobbi said.
"They're testing us even when they're not testing us." Hunter said at the bar.
Bobbi raised an eyebrow at him. "You do realize how paranoid you sound."
Hunter held up his glass, inspecting it carefully. "Paranoid or not, they're being careful with these interviews. Taking us one at a time, not letting us come back once we've had our chats."
"Hunter, these evaluations aren't tests on our team as a whole." Jemma said. "They're meant to determine how stable our mental and emotional states are individually."
"Then why are we locked in here?"
She glanced down. "I don't know."
"Exactly."
"How many of those have you had?" Fitz asked, bristling.
"I don't think that's important." He muttered.
"It's only going to hurt him if he's drunk." Bobbi said.
Hunter snorted. "Bobbi, you of all people know I can hold my drinks."
They looked away from each other, and Skye groaned and sat upright.
"We don't have anything to do!" she complained.
"Girl's right." Trip said. "They could at least give us some books or something."
"They disconnected the tv." Mack said. "Who does that?"
"We have all the entertainment we need." Fitz said. "I think we're supposed to just talk to each other."
"Enter a scream from a horror movie." Hunter said.
Fitz wasn't the only one to glare at him for that.
"I think Fitz is right." Jemma said. "Maybe we'll be talking about how we act in here in our interviews."
The door opened and a woman with short dark hair poked her head in. "I need Mack, please."
Mack stood and walked over to her.
He walked past her and she looked at the others. "Keep talking."
The door closed behind her, once again keeping them in.
"So who wants to play a game?" Skye asked after a moment of silence.
"We're playing her game, why not play another?" Hunter said with a tight grin.
"Truth or dare is the first one that comes to mind for me." Bobbi said.
"Who's going first?"
"I'll go." Skye said. She looked around the group and focused on Jemma. "Truth or dare?" she asked.
"Truth."
Skye thought for a minute. "Who do you like better, May or Coulson?" she asked quickly.
Jemma looked horrified as it sunk in. "I don't… I can't…" she spluttered, her eyes wide and panicked. "I…"
"Skye, you're gonna break her." Fitz said. "This is supposed to be fun."
"Just give it another minute." Skye said. She watched Jemma struggle for a few more seconds and then sighed as Fitz started to protest again. "Never mind that question." She said to Jemma.
"That was just cruel!" Jemma said.
"Sorry. I just wanted to see what you'd do."
"I couldn't choose between them! We're all a family!"
"Heh-heh." Skye smiled sheepishly.
"Jemma, you get the next question." Bobbi said, giving Skye a look.
"Alright." She said. She looked at Skye with narrowed eyes. "Skye, truth or dare?"
"I always pick dare."
"I thought you might say that. I dare you to…" she watched as Skye hung on her words, taking pleasure in it, and then smiled her characteristic smile. "I dare you to do your best accent."
Skye looked shocked, and Jemma laughed. "Seriously?" Skye said.
"I won't toy with you, Skye."
"O-kay." Skye said. She cleared her throat. "I appreciate the dare, lassie!"
Fitz visibly cringed. "Why did you make me hear that accent again?"
"Right. You've heard that one."
"That was your best?" Hunter said, choking on a laugh.
"That is a hard one to try." Bobbi said.
"I can't do accents, okay?" Skye held up her hands. "I let the computer do the talking for me. It covers languages and stuff like that."
Jemma chuckled. "Alright. I've had my revenge."
"Remind me never to make you want revenge again." Skye joked, a gleam in her eyes.
"That was just a taste of what I can do." Jemma said, meeting her look head on.
"It doesn't sound like much, but you really should be careful." Fitz said. "Jemma's more of a threat than you think."
"We've gone in a loop." Bobbi said. "So I'll go next."
Four questions (and discussions) later Hunter was called out for his interview.
"Now we can talk freely." Bobbi said once the door closed. "He's been in a mood today, and I don't know why."
"Yeah, it's a shame he had to go." Fitz said hurriedly. "Trip, truth or dare?"
"I'm feeling truth." Trip said.
"Have you…" Fitz took a breath. He had to ask. "Have you ever had a crush on someone on this team?"
"Ooh, that's good!" Skye said.
Trip smiled, rubbing his head. "Yeah, I have."
There was silence around the group. The unspoken question of "who" hung over them awkwardly.
Fitz's eyes never left Trip.
"Would you say you still, er, feel like that for that person?" he asked. He just knew Trip had been talking about Jemma.
"I already answered my question." Trip said.
"But say you didn't." Fitz insisted.
"This isn't about Simmons, is it?" Trip asked him in a low voice only he could hear.
"Of-of course not!" Fitz said in the same hushed tone. But the way he stumbled over his answer and blushed spoke more loudly than his words.
"I know you two have some sort of chemistry." Trip said. "I'd never mess with that."
"Really?"
"Of course."
Fitz leaned away from him, breathing a sigh of relief.
"Did you just tell him?" Skye asked.
"You'll never know." Trip said with a smirk and a raised eyebrow.
"Trip…" Skye said.
"C'mon girl. You can't know all my secrets."
Skye continued to press Trip for information, but Fitz didn't listen. He was looking at Jemma. Now he had confirmation that Trip wasn't interested in her.
Which meant he could take his time to start a relationship with her, without fear of her becoming involved with someone else from their team.
A cool thing to learn from a kid's game.
