I'm back everyone! The adventures of the Dream Keeper in the wonderful world of Disney is continuing with a new story! Before I start, I want to give a shout-out to "Days in the Magical World" by SuperWolfieStar and "The Adventures of Logan" by Logan Jindrak X for creating their own stories starring their characters from the Magical World series.
If you're new to the Magical World, feel free to jump right into this story, or go back and read the previous stories as well. All are welcome here.
Also, stay tuned for the end and how you can contribute to this story!
Gabriel the Dream Keeper took in a deep breath and let out a pleasant sigh as he stepped out of the train station onto Main Street. Waving hello to the people and toons walking past, Gabriel made his first stop of the day one of the churro carts on the street. After getting a bite to eat, he stopped in front of one of the windows and checked his appearance.
Gabriel is an anthropomorphic raven with white feathers on his face and front with black feathers on the rest of his body, a brown beak and talons, and vibrant purple eyes. His current attire is a grey Hawaiian shirt over a white T-shirt, tan shorts, and a purple dragon necklace hanging around his neck, along with his signature Sorcerer's Headphones (stylized with a star and moon pattern like Mickey's Sorcerer Hat).
"Looking good today," Gabriel said to himself. He felt his phone buzz and pulled it out to see a notification. "Oops, time to get going!"
The raven rushed down the street, heading past the Partners statue and towards the futuristic streets of Tomorrowland. Careful to avoid any hovercars and droids on the road, Gabriel finally got to his destination of Autopia. Just outside the facility stood a young hyena with purple-grey fur and blue eyes, a butterfly resting behind her ear and a bead necklace around her neck.
"There you are!" Jasiri called, jumping up and licking Gabriel on the face.
"Good to see you too, Jasiri," Gabriel laughed, hugging her back. "I guess you missed me, huh?"
"Yeah, you were gone for a whole month!" Jasiri said. "Any girlfriend would miss her boyfriend if he was gone that long."
"I made sure to call, you goof," Gabriel said, ruffling his hair. "It was good to see my family back at home for a bit, though."
"Anything else happen?" Jasiri asked.
Gabriel suddenly looked off into the distance, getting a thousand-yard stare before shaking his head. "Sorry, had a flashback of stuff I'm so glad we don't have to deal with here."
"Real world craziness?" Jasiri said.
"You know it," Gabriel nodded. "Anyway, why did you want to meet me here at Autopia? Did you get into racing while I was gone?"
"Some of the other Dream Keepers have been talking about a competition of some kind happening here," Jasiri explained as they entered the Autopia garage. "I think I remember Mickey making an announcement about it, so I figured maybe you'd want to be part of it."
"When was the last time we did something like this together?" Gabriel mused. "The Sorcerer's Tournament if I remember, right? We might just have to get the whole gang back together if we sign up!"
"Oh, wait a moment," Jasiri said, her ears twitching.
The two took a step back as a rocket came speeding out of one of the garages, flying up into the air and exploding into a firework and an iconic scream. Landing at their feet was a dog man, who stood up and comically shook the soot of the explosion off his body. "Gawrsh, rocket science really is complicated," he said, scratching his head.
"Hello Goofy," Gabriel greeted.
"Oh Gabriel, you're back from your vacation!" Goofy replied, looking over to the two. "Come to enter the Magical World Grand Prix?"
"We heard there was an event going on and wanted to learn more about it," Jasiri explained.
"Well then, follow me," Goofy waved. He led the two through the garage, where various Disney characters were working in teams on cars, planes, boats, and any other kind of vehicle with an engine in it. "After our time as Roadster Racers, Mickey got the great idea to invite everyone else to join in on the fun. So, we set up the MWGP for just that!"
"Isn't it kinda unfair for some racers to have a plane when others just have a car?" Gabriel asked.
"We'll only be allowing cars in the race itself," Donald said, walking up to meet them. "Some of these racers are just modifying their vehicles to participate."
"Then I guess we'll have to make our own car to compete as well," Gabriel nodded. "What kind of race is the Magical World Grand Prix?"
"It's a mix of both go-kart racing and sightseeing," Donald explained. "Each week we'll set up a new course for racers, with a special Pitstop challenge at the midpoint of the track for teams to compete in for additional points."
"You have to not only be good at driving, but good a teamwork too," Goofy added. "You have to have at least three teammates in order to compete: a co-driver, a navigator, and a peashooter."
"He means a shooter, for the items," Donald corrected. "The racing is kinda like the ones that plumber guy Ralph talks about gets into, so there'll be lots of things being thrown around the track to get in your way.."
"Well, there's two of us here, so that leaves two more to go," Jasiri said.
"Let's set you two up with a garage for your team," Donald said. "You can work on your team and car there."
The duck took Gabriel and Jasiri to an empty garage, setting up the sign-up sheet for the GP as well. The raven took out his phone and started calling the other Dream Keepers, while Jasiri looked around the garage for parts to use. After an hour, the hyena managed to get a few basic car parts gathered.
"This should be a good start," Jasiri said. "Any luck calling the others?"
Gabriel sighed, setting his phone down. "Unfortunately, the rest of the team is doing their own things. Lena and Brooklyn are off on a magic quest, Kairi is doing Keyblade training, and Sisu wants to spend more time with her siblings in Kumandra. I also don't want to call our other friends because they'll probably want to compete with their own teams as well."
"Then we just need to go make some new friends!" Jasiri said. She then looked at the mess of parts on the floor. "And probably someone that knows how to build a car as well."
Suddenly, a clanging sound came from just outside the garage. Peeking out the door, the duo looked to see that a nearby trash can had been knocked over, with a black and white striped tail sticking out of the can. Flipping the trash can back to its proper position, Gabriel used his magic to pull the creature of the can, revealing a raccoon in a space outfit.
"Rocket?" Gabriel said in confusion. "Why are you digging through the trash can?"
"Because humans leave all kinds of useful junk in there," Rocket replied. "Do you know how many different weapons I can make from what you people throw out?"
"Isn't it a bit stereotypical for a raccoon to be digging through the trash, though?" Jasiri pointed out.
"I am not a raccoon!" Rocket shouted.
"Jasiri, this is Rocket, one of the Guardians of the Galaxy," Gabriel explained. "He's their weapons expert. Technically he isn't a raccoon, just an alien whose species just happens to look exactly like an Earth raccoon."
"You humans and putting yourselves at the center of everything," Rocket sighed as Gabriel set him down. "So, Dream Keeper, it's been a while since we last met, huh?"
"You two know each other?" Jasiri asked.
"Oh yeah, Gabriel and I go way back," Rocket nodded. "Met before he went full-on music wizard. Still got that tape I made ya?"
"You know it," Gabriel said with a smile. He turned to Jasiri and explained, "I visited many different Disney worlds for my training to use Fantasia magic, back before I was Dream Keeper. The Guardians of the Galaxy, and Rocket especially, helped me when I had to travel through space. Then even gave me my own Awesome Mixtape as a gift." He then thought with a hum. "Hey Rocket, you know a lot about building stuff, right? Think you could help us with a car?"
"A car? Hah, I could build one in my sleep," the raccoon boasted. He followed the duo into the garage, rubbing his hands in glee as he saw the parts before him. "Oh yeah, I'll pull out all the stops for this. So, what do ya need a car for?"
"We're going to enter the Magical World Grand Prix," Jasiri replied. "We need a car and a team to race with. But all of our friends are doing other things, so they can't join us for this adventure."
"I mean, if you guys need someone on your team, I can pitch in for that too," Rocket said as he got to building the car. "I ain't doing anything until the Guardians Holiday Special, so I'm free."
"That would be a big help, Rocket," Gabriel said with a smile. He used his magic to pick up a few tools. "Now then, let's make the best car we can!"
[***]
After a day of mechanic lessons and car building with Rocket, their vehicle was complete and ready to test out on the Autopia track the next day. "It sure helps to have the power of a building montage on your side," Gabriel mused.
The trio wheeled their car out onto the track. It was a sleek, galaxy black sports car made to seat four people, with two miniature rocket engines built into the racing fins on the back for additional speed. Three stripes of blue, magenta, and green ran across the sides to represent Gabriel's Fantasia powers, with the interior seating being done in purple and grey at Jasiri's request. Rocket made sure to add in his own tech, providing the team a seamless heads-up display on the front windshield that could be altered however the driver needed it to be.
"She's beautiful," Rocket said, wiping a tear from his eye. "Now we just gotta name the girl."
"And get our fourth teammate," Jasiri remined him. "We're still down a member."
"Let's focus on making sure this thing works first," Rocket said. He tossed the keys over to Gabriel. "You can drive, right?"
"I'm 21, I have a license," the raven replied.
"You're 21? You've never told me your age before," Jasiri said, surprised.
"And you're vaguely an adult by hyena standards, but I've never bugged you about your actual age," Gabriel replied.
Jasiri shrugged. "Fair enough."
The trio hopped in the car, with Gabriel making sure everyone buckled in before turning the key. The car hummed to life, the raven smiling as he drove the vehicle onto the track. The Autopia raceway wasn't complex, but it was good enough to put their new car to its paces. Gabriel took the car through the straightaways, over and under the overpass, drifted through the big turn, and brought it all back to the starting line in record time.
"Wow kid, that was better than I expected," Rocket nodded. "Better than Quill's flying, that's for sure."
"It was fun too!" Jasiri laughed. "And we'll be getting to help out during the race too, right?"
Gabriel nodded. "According to the rules, you guys will have to manage the items on the course, participate in pitstop challenges, and help me with navigating as well."
The three continued talking as Gabriel brought the car to their garage, where an unexpected visitor waited for them. Sitting outside the garage was a rabbit girl with brown and tan fur wearing an orange and white outfit. She kept the sun out of her face with a large red umbrella and perked up when she saw Gabriel.
"Oh, Mr. Dream Keeper!" the rabbit said, standing up and putting her umbrella away. She walked up to Gabriel and bowed. "I'm Lop of the Yasaburo clan. It's an honor to make your acquaintance!"
Gabriel was taken back by Lop's formalness. "You don't have to bow to me," he said. "Say, aren't you from Star Wars?" The raven got a closer look at the rabbit girl. "Yeah, you're from one of the anime shorts!"
"I've been told that's where I come from, yes," Lop nodded. "Though it still amazes me that there's so much here in this 'Magical World' we all live in outside of our own stories."
"I understand the feeling," Jasiri sighed. "It was a bit surprising to adventure outside the Pride Lands for me too. But still, why did you come here? Do you need Gabriel's help with something?"
"I was told that the Dream Keeper is an expert at helping people out," Lop explained. "But what I really need help with is a bit… complicated. I want to explore what the Magical World has to offer, but besides my droid, TD-4, I don't have any friends that could help out with that."
Gabriel smiled. "So, you need a friend the explore the world with? Sure, I'll be your friend!"
Lop perked up. "Really? You're not going to ask for anything else in return?"
"I don't think it's a real friendship if you're only friends with them so they can do something for you, or vice versa," Gabriel said with a laugh. "Jasiri, Rocket, and I are about to enter the Magical World Grand Prix, which will take us all over the various worlds. If you join our team, you'll be able to visit different places just like you asked me to help with!" He held out a hand to Lop. "So what do you say?"
The rabbit girl looked at his hand, then smiled and shook it. "Okay then, I'll join your team! I do know my way around a landspeeder, and this 'car' is like that but with wheels." She then knelt down and shook Jasiri and Rocket's hands as well. "Good to meet you as well!"
"I'm Jasiri, Queen of the Outlands and Gabriel's girlfriend," Jasiri replied with a smile.
"Rocket, one of the Guardians of the Galaxy," Rocket added. He gave a hum. "Have we met before? I swear I've seen a girl like you around Avengers Campus."
"I did go there once to help get TD fixed," Lop mused.
Rocket snapped his fingers. "That would be it. It wasn't too difficult recalibrating his camera systems. You Star Wars guys have all the cool tech."
"Lop's a Jedi as well, or at least Force sensitive," Gabriel added, pointing the lightsaber hanging on her belt. "She'll be a great member of our team."
"I'll do my best!" Lop cheered, giving a peace sign to the team.
"We still have to name the car," Rocket reminded Gabriel.
The raven nodded, leaving up against the vehicle and thinking. "Well, our team has a space theme with you two joining us, but our car was painted based on my Fantasia powers… Let's see… How does "Concerto Comet" sound to you guys?"
"Eh, not the worst name I've heard," Rocket shrugged.
"I think it sounds cool," Jasiri said, Lop nodding agreement.
"Thanks. I really just combined a space word and a music word together, but it does have a nice ring to it." Gabriel pointed to the sky confidently and smiled. "Now then team, let's get Concerto Comet ready for the big race!"
