This chapter took a very long time for multiple reasons.

Schoolwork-That includes the normal classes and the summer semesters.

Working on other fics. Have you seen what I've been writing! Plus, I joined the Infinite Loops community on Space Battle. Not only do I have to write most of the for the DxD part, I'm constantly making sure that what I write does not contradict or mess with other snippets.

Moving to new house.

Donald is such an asshole I ended up writing an entire spinoff.

I kept on getting new ideas for even more fanfics! I need help, like maybe extra hands and extra computers. Probably extra brains while at it, like that demon mafia boss from Kekkai Sensen episode 3.

So many good anime giving me even more ideas!

So many characters that I want to give cameos to!

One of my relatives who lives close by had a heart surgery followed by a brain surgery a month later. Yeah his health was that bad. I still remember seeing stiches on his scalp. On top of all that, only a month after the brain surgery he had a heart attack.

My grandmother had knee surgery so I had to help her out

I had trouble getting myself motivated to work on this specific fanfic, as evidenced by the RWBY fanfics I posted and updated before this one.

Perhaps the largest reason is planning. I have looked through a lot of other DxD fanfics and taken note of how radically they have changed the events of the DxD timeline for their stories, which got me thinking if I really want to stick with Light Novel cannon. Then there are the characters and stories. It took a while but I finally got a better idea of some of the big Phantoms and their identities.

Basically, my imagination got stuffed with everything else I've been watching and reading. Marathoning the Simpsons, Red vs Blue, RWBY, 10 Little Roosters and Eleven Little Roosters, and finally Anime Sins, Anime Wins, Cinema Sins, and Cinema Wins. That last group especially got me. Thanks to those web shows, I started seeing problems with my own fics! There's even a guy on youtube who does "Everything Right and Wrong" for Kamen Rider and Super Sentai! I've become super aware of moments where the protagonists just talk while the enemy is right in front of them but they aren't attacked at all!

As I am a Muslim I do fast during the month of Ramadan which in 2017 started late May and ended June 25th. So my body was a bit out of whack with the whole waking up real early going back to sleep eating at sunset…you know the drill. On top of that I was taking online summer courses for my minor.

I AM STILL A COLLEGE STUDENT! I AM TRYING TO GET INTO THE HIGH LEVEL CLASSES! TO DO THAT I NEED TO WRITE TWO SHORT STORIES AND SUBMIT THEM AND GET ACCEPTED! THE FIRST TIME DID NOT WORK SO I AM DOING IT AGAIN! AND THAT TAKES TIME! I NEED TO DO THIS SO I CAN GRADUATE AND THEN, eventually, APPLY TO ROOSTER TEETH FOR A JOB! SO GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK!

Before the big reveal, I would like to point out I actually gave a hint in the chapter 4 AN, "from a certain complete manga about Tennis" was my hint. Plus if it was going to be Aika I think I would have used the word teenager.

I do not own the Kamen Rider franchise or High School DXD.

Things such as chants and data on the magic rings were obtained through Kamen Rider wiki, High school DXD wiki, and English translations of High School DxD volumes 1-22. I do however claim ownership to original spell and transformation rings as well as original techniques.

Chapter 12: The Gun and The Racket

It has been almost two weeks since the incident with the Fallen Phantoms and Asia's reincarnation into a devil. In that time Issei has had to make many adjustments. For one thing, Kalawarner is now a permanent resident of the Hyoudou house and his newest familiar. That came with the ceremony and locking her in a room until she was completely detoxed. Second, Asia had not only been enrolled in Kuoh and in the same class as Issei, she was also living in Issei's house. It took some rearrangement and there was a bit of arguing but they did manage to set things up. The three girls each got their own room while Issei kept his. He still could not understand how an exiled nun could have so much stuff. He did suspect that Rias bought most of it for the new Bishop but decided to not bring it up. Its not like he knew anything about what girls needed on a day to day basis.

Issei was a bit concerned at how well Asia would interact with Raynare and Kalawarner. Turns out there was no need for any of that. The two actually felt partially responsible for her situation since it was their former comrades, their mooks, and even their equipment that killed her in an attempt to benefit some mysterious third party. If they had still been part of the Grigori things would be different but that's that and this is this. The three actually got along decently. Asia's kindness made the Fallen comfortable and in turn the two gave Asia their own form of assistance every now and then, when they weren't job hunting while considering the idea of going to school.

When Asia started class, Issei had to smash the Perverted Duo to the ground before they could talk to her. To be fair he heard them make plans to trick her into accepting an invite to a "devil's threesome". Knowing how innocent she was, Issei decided to be proactive and took the chance to make sure M&M understood the consequences of trying to corrupt her. Although, he knew he would still have to kick their ass every now and then.

Soon after Asia moved in, Rias declared that Issei needed proper training. Apparently, the Boosted Gear was limited by the strength of the host. Boosting their power too much would harm them. She tried to give an example with a bottle being able to hold water, except if the water all of a sudden got denser and exerted more force on the bottle it would explode (yeah Issei didn't get it either). That being the case Rias thought that Issei needed physical conditioning to improve his ability to use it. He had only one response to that.

"Bullshit."

As far as he was concerned, Rias was just trying to assert herself as his King. She did seem like the kind of person who was used to being relied upon for support. No doubt she wanted to make Issei think that she could be trusted more, if not followed. It made Issei internally chuckle watching her puff her cheeks in frustration whenever he ignored her or just outright said he would do something other than what she said for him to do. Hey, just because he said he was going to follow her didn't mean he was actually going to listen to everything little thing she said.

For example, when taking contracts, Issei had decided to just ride his bike while Rias insisted that he just not wear the belt when using the teleportation circles. Issei countered by reminding her about what happened with Freed and how his reaction time was slowed down because he had to put his belt on. Kind of embarrassing when you say it out loud. Rias said that using non-magical means of getting to the client was embarrassing. It was at this point that Issei tuned her out.

So he wasn't expecting her to show up at his house at 5 in the morning calling his phone over and over to wake him up. Deciding that a light morning exercise was okay, he got out of the house. He thought she would be running with him, but Rias apparently decided to ride a bike while he did the running. While it confused him why she would take the easy way he decided to not ask. He learned the hard way that there are some things you just don't ask a girl.

He started taking it easy with light jogging, but Rias kept on egging him on. He decided to show her and started jogging backwards, actually going faster than before and managing to make it back home before Rias. When she asked him, while slightly panting from exhaustion from trying to catch up on the bike, how he did that backwards, he told her that part of his training was to master the skill of jumping backwards, a must have skill for many Kamen Riders. When perfected they can practically fly backwards with one leap going from the ground to any landing at a higher elevation, without even trying.

After some prodding and teasing that she couldn't catch up even when riding a bike, despite her advantages of being a pureblooded devil, Rias declared that she was slowed down by the bike. So from that point on the two of them went on a morning run together. While they generally kept the same pace, Issei always made sure to have a decent lead and finish first, just to rub it in.

Admittedly, Issei enjoyed these runs. Not for the exercise, but for the company. Heck, all his days seemed bright to him. As far as he was concerned, he had an even bigger family now, and all the more reason to keep fighting. Though he wasn't going to be telling them that anytime soon he was content to play mind games with them.

This weekend was like those previous ones, an early morning run with the promise of a filling breakfast made by Raynare and Asia. The one difference was that they were trying out a different and somewhat longer route.

They were about three-fourths of the way done with the part of the run that took them away from the house, with Issei already having a slight lead over Rias, when they passed by a street tennis court. Normally Issei would have only realized this after the fact, but it came to a head when a stray ball hit him right in the head. Surprisingly enough the ball didn't have much force behind it so the impact was weak and Issei was only stopped because of his surprise and was able to catch it before it hit the ground.

"Sorry." Came a female voice from the courts. Looking over, Issei and Rias saw two young women, one of whom they recognized. Walking up the stairs to the slightly elevated tennis court, they confirmed that it was indeed Kiyome Abe, a busty third year at Kuoh brown hair in a drill style.

"Well well." She chuckled taking the ball from Issei's hand. "If it isn't one of the Great Ladies and the Rouge of Kuoh." Her words made Issei sigh. Apparently his actions warranted him a new title to replace Perverted Beast. The other woman made her way towards them. She was in her mid twenties with brown hair with two braids going half way down her back.

"I'm so sorry about that." She bowed. "I was the one who served that ball."

"I think you should be proud that you were able to pull of that kind of a serve." Kiyome said to the woman before turning back to her peers. "This is Sakuno Ryuzaki. She regularly comes here to practice tennis so we play a game or two whenever we're both here."

"Oh, are you a professional?" Rias asked the older woman.

"Oh no." She replied with a wave of her hand. "It's just something I do for fun. It's especially relaxing after a hard week at the office."

"Plus it's a sport that has a special meaning to me." She said pushing her fingers together with a slight blush, while still holding on to the red racket she was using. "So I want to continue enjoying it even as an adult."

"It's very admirable." Rias said with a smile as Kiyome nodded in agreement. "I think it's nice to have something that affected you growing up still be a part of your adult life."

"Thank you." Sakuno smiled. She then turned to Kiyome. "It's still my turn to serve." Just as she reached for the balls, she somehow tripped forward. At that exact moment, a bullet went through where her hands should have been.

"What the!" Rias and Kiyome both exclaimed looking around to see where the shot came from.

"Get down!" Issei cried out grabbing their hands and then making them take cover behind a nearby bench. "Are you hurt?" He asked Sakuno.

"I-I'm okay." She replied still shaken. Hearing her reply, he began scanning the area himself, looking for any signs of an attacker. A glint caught his eye followed by another bullet rushing past his face. He turned around just in time to see it hit the ground…and then bounced right towards Sakuno completey defying the laws of physics. This time she was actually clipped on the shoulder.

"Looks like it was a bit off." Came a loud female monster voice. Both Issei and Rias looked around but still could not find the shooter. "But don't worry, I'll be done with your arms and then kiss this special sport of your goodbye."

"What do you want?" The woman cried out as she clutched her shoulder in pain.

"I wonder how you would feel knowing you could no longer play tennis." The voice continued as another bullet, this one from a completely different direction, was fired, this one barely avoided by the group. It was at this point that Issei motioned for the girls to grab Sakuno and get ready to run while he pulled out his sword (Connect; Please!). "The sport that your dear grandmother taught you; that brought you so much fun and joy over the years; that is now your own means of escaping the stress of your everyday life." As Issei deflected another bullet he signaled the girls and they bolted for the stairs. "You go through all the extra work dumped on you by your superiors, the way the men try to flirt with you, everything stressful, knowing that once you pick up the racket and ball everything will be ok. I wonder how strong your despair will be once it's taken away from you."

"So you really are a Phantom." Issei called out, brandishing his blade a bit to get the mysterious assailant's attention. "Kind of thought you were some other random kaijin. Seriously It's hard to tell from the voice alone. Scared you'll look so genereic no one will remember you after I destroy you?"

"I heard the Wiz-kid had a bit of a mouth on him. Didn't think it would be this ugly."

"Guess that nickname is sticking around." Issei said with a sigh as he got his other rings ready.

"Do us all a favor and just drop dead you brat." The monster said as she fired multiple bullets from her spot.

"Henshin!"

Hurricane; Please!

Fu, Fu, Fu, Fu, Fu!

Using his Hurricane form Issei created s small whirlwind strong enough to blow all the bullets off course and smash into the ground. It was then that he realized these weren't just bullets, but Ghoul stones. Soon the group was surrounded by several Ghouls each with a left gun arm.

"Get out of here!" He called out to the others as he engaged the minions.

"My car is parked here." Sakuno said using her head to point towards the parking lot. "One of you will have to drive, the keys are in my pocket."

"Pres, you drive. Kiyome you take care of Ryuzaki's wounds." Issei ordered as he backed up a bit after taking down two Ghouls.

"I think it's better if we switch." Rias said with a bit of nervousness in her voice.

"Do we got a problem." He growled keeping his eyes on his opponents.

"I…I… I don't know how to drive!" She said aloud right when they were in sight of the car. "I've never even been in a car!"

That statement made everyone stop and turn to stare at her, even the Ghouls.

"Are you serious?" Kiyome asked incredulously. "How did you ever get around?"

"Teleportation magic or carriages." Was all she said for her answer. For a full minute, no one said anything. Then Issei realized this and acted.

Hurricane; Slash Strike!

Fu, Fu, Fu, Fu, Fu, Fu!

In an instant the Ghouls were destroyed by a blade of wind. Not even bothering to watch them explode, he dashed back to the female trio and pulled them the rest of the way to the car.

"Abe, drive! Pres, just get in the passenger seat and keep an eye out! I'll take care of Ryuzaki." He barked out as the armor broke apart. The girls were quick to act, Kiyome taking a second to grab the keys from Sakuno. In a minute they were in the car pulling out of the parking lot and speeding onto the road.

"What the hell did you drag me into Gremory!" Kiyome exclaimed after catching her breath.

"Believe me when I say that this is not my doing in anyway." The red head replied in exasperation.

"So sayeth the devil."

"Now look here-"

"Ladies! How about focusing on driving a bit further away!" Issei interrupted them as he used his magic to take care of Sakuno (First Aid; Please!).

"Fine." The blonde grunted focusing on the road. "But you'd better explain this!"

"Don't worry." Rias said to Issei, catching the look in his eyes. "She's in the know."

"Of course she is." He mumbled, watching his magic work on the Gate.

"So what century were you born in exactly?"

Rias could not help but let out a groan at his question.

Later at the one and only Hungry Donuts 2…

After turning down the special of the day (Tennis Donuts!) the devils explained things to Kiyome and Sakuno. While the latter processed the fact that she was a Gate, Rias explained to Issei that Kiyome was a beast tamer from a long family and thus in the know about the supernatural and other stuff.

"Now that we have that exposition taken care of." Issei sighed leaning back in his chair. "We need to figure out our next move." He looked back towards Sakuno, and realized something. "You've still got the racket." Indeed, the same red racket she was using to play had never left her side, despite everything that happened. Thinking back, Issei realized that she protected it over her own body several times during their escape.

"It's very important to me." She replied with a smile while fiddling with the strings a bit. "It was given to me by the person who got me interested in tennis and showed me how much fun it was. In fact, this is the second one Ryoma gave to me, right before he went pro."

"Wait…" Issei said holding his hands up. "Ryoma, as in Echizen Ryoma?"

"Yes."

"That's…impressive." Issei said with Kiyome nodding in agreement. Rias looked at them confused. For a moment it looked like she was about to say something, then she glanced at Issei and decided to get answers later, preferably not from Issei.

"He's gotten quite famous." Sakuno giggled. "I still remember meeting him in middle school. Even then he was a tennis prodigy."

"Sounds like you two are pretty close." Kiyome teased.

"I wouldn't say that." The older woman replied with a sad smile. "The last time I talked to him was 2 years ago when he gave me this racket." She looked at the racket as she talked. "But whenever I use this to play, I feel like he's there, giving me that usual look of boredom and exasperation as I mess up." Her words made all three teenagers smile.

"Well ain't that sweet." Came a female voice with an American country accent. Spinning around, the group saw a cowgirl, complete with boots with spurs and a cowskin vest. "It'd be a real shame if sumthin' were to happen to it." Her eyes glowed red before she was enveloped in a black aura. In an instant she became a purple monster with different markings, a face that looked avian, and a giant musket in her left hand.

"How nice of you to show yourself." Issei growled as he stepped in front of the girls who started to back up. "Though I've got 2 questions. One, how did you find us? Two, can I get a name or do I have to risk being racist?"

"I'll leave the first one to your imagination." The kaijin snickered. "As for the second one, call me Annie Oakly. Or just Phantom Annie."

"Like the musical?" Rias asked.

"Exactly." Annie said with the tone of a smirk in her voice as she raised her gun. "Pull." With that she fired her weapon and once again the group was surrounded by armed Ghouls.

"Manager, get out of here!" Issei cried out as he turned to face the truck, only to see Kamimura already packed up with Ryu and Yu sitting in the passenger seat.

"We know what to do!" They cried out in unison as they drove off.

"Sensei wasn't kidding when he said they really know how to avoid trouble." Issei deadpanned before ducking to avoid gunfire.

"I'll leave the Ghouls to you!" He called back as he charged at Annie.

"Henshin!"

Flame; Please!

Hii, Hii, Hii, Hii, Hii!

The two engaged each other with Wizard II constantly trying to hack at his opponent with his sword only for the blade to be blocked by the musket. Annie would then push Issei back and get off a shot. Sometimes Issei was able to deflect or block it but there were plenty of times where he got hit.

The girls were having an even harder time. Rias was the only one taking the offensive but the Ghouls were too good at dodging her blasts of Destruction making her do more damage. That left Kiyome to try to protect Sakuno, but everytime she tried to summon one of her beasts she got interrupted.

The stalemate continued for a few minutes until one of the Ghouls finally managed to separate Kiyome from Sakuno. Annie took that opportunity to knock Issei off his feet and onto the ground, stepping on his hands and body to keep him from getting up.

"Looks like it game over for you tennis lover." She cackled as she aimed her gun. "Here's an idea, try returning this!" No one was able to stop her from firing the bullet that flew at Sakuno. She could not even try to get away. Instinctively she held up the racket, as if hoping it would give her some sort of protection.

When the shot hit the gut of the racket, there was an explosion of smoke, covering the woman completely. The students could only watch in fear while the Phantom and Ghouls began to cackle. That all changed as the smoke cleared, revealing a perfectly fine Sakuno, her completely intact racket, and a bullet sitting on the ground.

There was no sound, no reaction, nothing; just stillness.

Which was instantly broken when Rias blasted two of the shocked Ghouls. At the same time Annie fired another round at Sakuno except this time she was more responsive. She actually gripped the racket by the handle and swung it at the bullet sending it towards another Ghoul hitting it right on the arm, destroying the gun and knocking it onto the ground. This continued for a bit with Annie getting more and more frustrated and Sakuno getting more confident and accurate. Everyone else just watched as with each shot another Ghoul was knocked to the ground. When all of them were down, Rias destroyed them with one concentrated blast of power.

"How the fuck is this possible!" The Phantom screeched, taking a step back. That was a big mistake.

Water; Please!

Sui, Sui, Sui, Sui, Sui, Sui!

Using the effects of his transformation, Wizard kicked the Phantom in the legs making her fall down. He used that chance to get back up and grab a spell ring that had the image of a dragon melting.

Liquid; Please!

Dashing forward after scanning the ring, he soon turned into a blob of water, one that jumped at Annie and latched on, crushing and bending and pinning her limbs causing maximum pain and making her lose her gun. Once she was disarmed he spun her around over and over like pizza dough to the point where you could actually see dizzy circles form over her head. He then used the momentum to throw her straight up, returning to solid as soon as she was air born holding his gun with the HandAuthor open.

C'mon Shoot; Shake Hands!

"Finale."

Water! Shooting Strike!

Sui, Sui, Sui, Sui, Sui!

He aimed the gun straight up and, without even looking, said "Pull." firing the torrent of water that surrounded his weapon at Annie right when she reached the peak of her air trip. The high pressured shot struck the monster and cut right through resulting in an explosion and a blue magic circle that quickly disappeared.

With the monster destroyed, Issei cancelled the armor and walked towards the girls who were catching their breath.

"That was something." He said lightheartedly. The upperclassman could only give him a look of incredulousness. They looked like they were about to retort, but decided better. As for Sakuno, she was looking at her precious racket in amazement.

"How did I do that?" She wondered aloud.

"You said that this was very precious to you." Rias said stepping forward. "As a Gate you have the potential for magic. It is possible that the strong attachment you have and the hope you have towards seeing this Ryoma brought out enough of your hidden magic to make the racket abnormally strong."

"That sounds so corny and cliché." Kiyome sighed.

"Which means that's probably the answer." Issei chuckled. "Unless someone smarter comes along and changes that theory." This time Rias actually stuck her tongue out at him.

"We should get back to the court and grab our stuff now that it's safe." Kiyome butted in.

"Good idea." Issei agreed as they got back in the car with Sakuno herself driving. "Then we can start planning our next move."

"Um…it's not over?" She asked as she pulled the car onto the road.

"You're still a Gate, so the Phantoms might still come after you. And there's no way I can watch you all the time."

"Isn't there something you could do about that? What about your sensei?" Rias asked.

"When he was doing this, it was either get them out of Tokyo, or destroy the Inner Phantom which would require first falling into despair."

"Does it have to be that extreme?" Sakuno asked.

"The further away you are from the Phantom's hunting grounds, the better." He replied with certainty in his voice. "I understand if you can't just get up and leave because of your job, but we need to consider your safety first." No one said anything else the rest of the drive over. When they got to the street court, they were surprised to hear the sounds of someone playing on the very court they had been using. Upon arriving at the top of the stairs they say a young man with black and green hair hitting the ball against eh wall over and over with ease. Seeing him, Sakuno dropped the racket as she held her hands to her mouth in amazement.

"Ryoma?" The man actually turned around and smirked at the pig tailed woman.

"Still got those ridiculously long pigtails I see." He said with a smirk.

Still in slight shock, Sakuno stepped forward only to trip over her racket onto the ground.

"Made Made Dane, Ryuzaki." Ryoma chuckled as he knelt down and helped her stand up.

The three teenagers looked at this and did what any other person would do, discreetly grab their things and leave as quietly as possible.

Next day at Kuoh Academy next to the Tennis Courts

"So Ryuzaki will be taking a very long break to travel the world with the one and only Echizen Ryoma while he's on tour." Kiyome informed Rias and Issei.

"Funny how things work out like that." Rias mused while Issei merely nodded, though it looked like he was thinking about something else.

"I suppose I must thank you." The blonde said with a sigh. "There's no telling what would have happened to me." She then turned to Issei. "Do you think that I might be a Gate?" Her question caught his attention and he considered it for a moment.

"Maybe." He shrugged. "I didn't really see you use that skill as a Beast Tamer that you're so proud of." While Rias sighed at Issei's language, Kiyome merely giggled. "But all things considered they might come after you. They seem to be doing more research into their targets before acting, so there's no telling when they'll attack."

"In that case," she smirked lightly tapping him on the head with her racket. "I'll be counting on you to be my hope, Wizard." With that she waved good bye and went to the courts.

"I've still got a bad feeling about this." Issei sighed as he and Rias started walking away.

"Why? Everything worked out without too much trouble this time." Rias questioned.

"Exactly. It was too easy this time. That can only mean things are going to get even harder in the future." He said looking towards the school entrance, watching students leave without a care in the world. "If we don't keep our guard up, they might use that chance to attack."

"All the more reason to continue your training." Rias said puffing her chest in pride. "After all, if it wasn't for me, we might not have been able to save them in time." Issei looked at her for a moment.

"Whatever." He smirked. "So long as you can actually keep up." With that he sprinted towards the Old School Building with Rias chasing after him.

Okay.

Wanted to make this longer but then decided to get this story moving already. I've had this word document sitting in my folder for over a year!

In my opinion, Rias is a bit too sheltered. Yes in the LN she takes on all the challenges of terrorists and all that but she goes back to such a comforting lifestyle it is somewhat hard to see her as a heroine especially when compared to others. So I decided to take her out of her comfort zone. So thanks to Team Four Star and Hellsing Ultimate Abridged for giving me this idea.

I wanted to establish here Rias and Issei arguing over the process of fighting Phantoms. But again…I wanted to get this shit done!

Big question, should Raynare and Kalawarner get jobs, go to school, or each one does one while the other does the other. Let's answer that with a poll! I seriously wish I could set it up so that you can give each choice a score like 1, 2, 3 and so on so forth. Oh well I'll make due. Also no, these polls about what happens within the story won't have anything to do with the . That will restricted to my FF profile page.

That's it for now. Please Favorite, Follow, and Review. But most of all, thank you for reading!
