CHAPTER 34-TELL ME LIES

~~Thank you for the lovely review! It honestly made my day when I read it. I'm so glad you like it as I don't get feedback on it so I'm not sure how well it is. I try my best to stay close to the show and the characters, especially Baz. I hate to say it (And I'm not blowing my own horn) but I think I'm the only one who actually followed him correctly. Thanks again!~~Reanna.

"Miss Cody? Cara is ready to see you now" Jessica Cody had been walking up and down the hallway with a cup of water in her hands. She was in the middle of a sip before the woman from a desk appeared. She pointed over to room five and Jessica bent down to pick up her bag.

Her stomach had gotten in the way and she struggled until the woman came to help. She thanked her before moving into the plain, grey room. Another woman, in her late thirties with short black hair and a black pantsuit was sitting at the desk in the middle of the room. She smiled warmly once Jessica stepped inside and pulled the chair out for her.

"Hi Jessica, I'm filling in for Vanessa, the one you were originally supposed to meet with. How are you doing?"

Jessica offered a smile back, set her cup on the table before plopping into the chair. Her bag fell next to her feet as she sighed. "I'm okay, I've been in better predicaments than this but here I am"

Vanessa had gone back to her seat before flipping open a folder. She looked through a few things before starting with some questions. "Okay, I just need you to repeat this to me since I'm new on this case. Please tell me your full name, date of birth, current age and how far along you are"

"Um…Jessica Janine Cody, May 13th, 1984, I'm 16 and I'm about eight and a half months pregnant" Reaching for her water, Jessica took another quick sip out of nerves. This meeting wasn't exactly easy for her, but she had no choice but to be there. There was no way that she could care for the baby by herself with no money and nowhere to go.

Nodding her head while jotting them down, the woman showed another smile. "And how is your situation at home? What do you parents think and is the baby's father in the picture?" She watched the young woman set the cup down and could see her hands tremble. "It's okay to be here. You are not the first teenager and definitely not the last. I know how hard this is and I want to help you"

Tucking her hands in her lap, Jessica looked at the woman. "Well…I've been staying with a friend for the last two months. Before that, I made different rounds to different places. My Mom kicked me out and she doesn't know I'm pregnant, my Dad isn't around…The Father has no idea either"

"So, you've been dealing with this on your own? No family help at all?" Jessica nodded yes and felt a spike of embarrassment, something she rarely did. "I'm glad that you've had someone to count on and someone to take care of you. They are a good friend if you ask me"

Jessica listened to her pen write some scratch marks on more papers and really questioned why she was there. It was her decision and no one else had interference, after all it was better for the baby. It was simply hard to deal with by herself, especially since she was close to her family and she didn't have their support. "I'm scared…" She blurted out before taking a glance at Vanessa.

She had stopped writing and looked up at her with a mix of surprise and remembrance. "You're also not the first to admit that either. You are a child having a child, there's no need to be ashamed of being scared. Giving your child up is one of the hardest things a woman, actually a mother can do. If you think this is best and this is what you want, then it's good for the both of you. I'm not here to stop you or force you into anything you don't want to do"

It was a comforting thought to Jessica that someone was actually listening. Sure, she had been staying with her friend and her parents were great help but she'd rather it be Smurf telling her that. Being a teenage parent wasn't something she couldn't imagine doing or even handling. She watched Julia and she saw how Smurf raised all of them, she didn't want to end up like that.

"Okay…I want to do this. It will be better in the long run. I know someone else will be able to take care of him, I can't right now"

"The foster parents you have lined up look pretty solid. I want you to know that this doesn't mean the baby will get adopted into that family. They may go into foster care if they decide to place him in our custody. We hope that they will adopt but that isn't always the case"

Even though Jessica had yet to meet the fortunate parents, she had sat down with Cara to talk about the possibility. Through the whole meeting, she had to keep reminding herself it was the smart thing to do. As Vanessa sat quietly looking through the rest of the things, she had another question, at least one that Jessica knew by heart.

"Okay, the last time you were here, you weren't sure of the gender of the baby. Did you go for an ultrasound?" Jessica nodded to answer her again. "Good, can you tell me what gender, and do you have a name picked out? The reason I ask is because this will be their legal name and of course if they get adopted, they will change his last name if they choose it. In most cases they do but just in case that doesn't happen, I can put this on the record. Make sure this is the name you want and the name that will go on the birth certificate. If you don't have one, that's okay. You've still got time to figure it out"

"It's a boy. My Mom has three boys and two girls. My sister has a boy, so I guess boys run in my family" At this point, Jessica was just talking to make conversation. It had popped into her mind how there were more boys in the family, she noticed it, but it was a coincidence that both she and Julia had boys. "I like the name Dylan; it means ocean and I love the ocean"

"Dylan's a great name, it's not very common. Do you have a middle name picked out? And what will the last name be? You can choose your own, the Father's, a combination of both. It's all up to you" Vanessa told her while writing the name down.

"Thanks…Um, It's Dylan Jacob…" Jessica trailed off thinking about the last name for a second. "Dylan Jacob Blackwell…"

The boys watched her storm by then seconds later, Baz was right behind her. Smurf's job was done and now she left it up to Jessica to deal with the rest of the problem. In actuality, it was her problem and Smurf just gave her a push to do so.

Ripping the front door open, Jessica started to pick up a quicker pace and forgot that she didn't drive there. There was no escaping unless she ran full speed ahead yet Baz would still track her down faster with a car. She heard the door open behind her and fought back the tears that were ready to come out.

"Who the hell is Dylan, Jess? What am I not supposed to know? Did this guy hurt you or do something to you? Who is he?" Falling directly behind her, Baz wanted answers.

"She's doing it again!" She cried out, wiping her face quickly. "She's trying to screw everything up like she always does. If she doesn't drag me down, she drags someone else to hurt me. She's done that my whole life and she's trying again"

Baz didn't say anything for second, knowing Jessica was talking about Smurf but wasn't answering his questions. That made him more suspicious because this wasn't the first time this was brought up. Javi was the first and now Smurf was saying the same name. Whoever this person was, Jessica told everyone but him.

"This isn't about Smurf, why won't you tell me who this guy is?"

"Fine, you want to know who this guy is?" Jessica spun around to face him. Baz figured she was crying because he could hear it in her voice but didn't know why she was so upset. "Dylan is…" She paused for a moment and looked him directly in the eyes. "He's my kid, he's our son"

Feeling like someone had just knocked the wind out of him, Baz's mouth popped open, but he couldn't find the right words to say. He wasn't even sure if he heard her correctly. "What?" He asked, barely speaking.

"I was pregnant, I found out after Smurf kicked me out. Why do you think I dropped out of school? I couldn't let anyone find out because I'd never be able to come back around here if someone found out. I stayed with Sabrina, went to a couple shelters then stayed with Rachel. I had no choice"

"And I'm now finding out about this? Jessica, this involved me too" He told her, stepping closer and anger starting to fill his voice.

"What did you want me to do Baz? I was a sixteen-year-old girl, there was no way I could take care of a child. I didn't have a home; I had no money or a job. I dropped out of high school and I had no support. I'm supposed to come home with a baby and tell everyone what happened? You weren't going to take care of him and don't try to say you would have. You were twenty-three, you didn't want a kid either"

Baz rubbed his face slowly while Jessica wiped tears away with the back of her hand. It was the truth whether he wanted to admit it or not. Neither one of them would have been able to raise a child, especially at that age around Smurf. It was bad enough that Julia never knew who J's dad was and Smurf had to partially raise him as a kid too.

"Where is he now? How does Smurf know about him if you kept it a secret?" Baz asked her.

"I don't know. I gave him to a couple who were foster parents and gave him a couple of pictures but that's the last time I ever made contact" Jessica paused mid-sentence to take a breath. "I have no idea, I never told her, I never told anyone except in rehab and Javi"

"So, you decided telling Javi was a good idea but not me? Jess, you and I are complicated, and you know that. But this…How could you not tell me for all these years?"

"Because you wouldn't have cared and never talked to me again. How was I supposed to work that into conversation? Hey, remember when we slept together, I got pregnant and gave the kid away? I had to tell someone and Javi listened. He wasn't going to judge me or even look at me different and that was what I needed. It wasn't easy for me and it still isn't. This is what Smurf wanted, you see that right?"

"What? That you've been lying to me for how many years now?" He had every right to be angry as this was a huge problem for their relationship. However, Jessica was going down the right path.

"You know she would never let us be together and this is her way of breaking us apart. She's going to do whatever it takes because she knows that if you quit in this family, she's lost the best one. Smurf's going to blame me for it but now she got what she wanted"

The night had become quiet with both parties not saying another word. It was something that they both needed to deal with together and separate. This revelation changed the game and Smurf was holding the crown. After Baz didn't respond to her, Jessica turned on her heel and started walking towards the gate.

"Where are you going?" He asked, watching her.

"I'm going home…You and I both need some space right now"

"How are you gonna get there? I'm not letting you walk from here"

"Too bad, I don't really want to get into this now. I get it, you hate me because of this and because of everything else. The fresh air will let me clear my head of what happened, you should do the same. Actually, go pick up Lena and spend the night with her. Maybe then you'll understand why I did what I did" She told him but didn't look back at him. It was a fast getaway that she was making, and Jessica needed that more than anything.

"I never said I hated you Jess…" Baz was able to tell her before she slipped out and onto the street. It was the truth; he just didn't know why she hadn't said anything after all these years. He now has a kid that he never knew about somewhere.

Jessica was right, they needed to have the rest of the night to themselves in order to process everything. Baz, more or less needed to as Jessica already knew the truth. He let her storm off while debating on going back inside. He really didn't want to face Smurf or even confront her on the matter. It didn't have anything to with, the matter was between he and Jessica. For now, Baz thought it would be best to get out of dodge, talk to Jessica about it and leave Smurf to smile in triumph.

The next morning, J had skipped out of the house wanting to get to school before Nicky caught him. Even though the two were on good terms, he wasn't sure where their relationship stood because of Craig. He was in the process of throwing his bookbag in the passenger seat when he saw Smurf standing in the garage.

"Leaving so soon? I made Lena breakfast and I thought you'd be joining us" She crossed her arms before walking towards him in one of her famous robes.

"No, I thought I'd head out early, I've got a make up test to do and my teacher said I could do it before school"

"How thoughtful…Have you seen Baz lately?"

Both J and Baz kept the storage unit a secret, but he was still left I the dark about it. He had no idea where the money came from or who it belonged to, but it was still a job. J was going to play it cool and say no but then she assumed that it had something to do with Lena. He knew Smurf had been complaining lately but still wasn't sure what the correct answer was.

"No not really. I mean, the night we pulled off the yacht yeah, but I didn't see him before that. I was mostly helping Deran and Craig with everything"

Smurf nodded her head before thinking it over. "Do you know anything about my missing money?"

J shook his head no, at first thinking she was talking about the whole ordeal with Javi since he was the one to give away the locations in the house. "No…Is something wrong?"

"I'm missing a lot of money that I've been saving through out the years. I just happen to go into it and it's all gone. The place was been wiped clean and I'm trying to figure out who did it"

"You think Baz had something to do with it?" He asked, holding a poker face.

"I wouldn't be surprised; he always took more than he was supposed to have"

At that moment, J knew he was skipping school and heading straight to Baz's house. He never thought that the money was Smurf's and if he would have known, he wouldn't have done it. The two stared at each other for a second before Smurf kissed him then sent him to school.

J was hoping that Baz was home because he couldn't believe what transpired. Smurf was not a woman to cross and J did not what to get on her bad side. Seeing the silver Challenger sitting in the driveway, J parked on the side of the street before walking up to the house and knocking on the door.

He stood on the porch for a couple minutes before Baz finally answered. He asked if he could come in, then walked inside. It wasn't often that Baz got a visit from J.

"Why didn't you tell me that was Smurf's money?" J questioned, not wanting to beat around the bush.

Baz narrowed his eyes for a moment. "Because you wouldn't have done it if I told you. How did you find out?"

"She knows, she just questioned me about missing money. Smurf knows"

It didn't concern him too much because Baz wanted her to see what it was like to have everything ripped away. He was just hoping that she was going to wait a couple more days until they figured out everything with the yacht money. The game was now on and the target was on his back.

"What did say?"

"Not a lot. She just asked if I knew her money was missing but then started talking about you"

Baz glanced out one of the windows before speaking. "Okay…Just keep quiet about it and if she asks any more, tell me"

"That's it? Baz, you robbed Smurf and brought me into it. Did you tell the others or are you planning on not telling them?"

He couldn't blame J for feeling irritated on the matter because he did lie to him. Baz knew that if he filled him in on everything, J would have backed out immediately as he was Smurf's lapdog. Someone needed to help him move all the money and he didn't trust his brothers with the matter.

"This shouldn't surprise you J, she's been hiding the money from us. All that we've been making from jobs, she's been keeping from us. No, the guys don't know but…"

J stopped him before he could continue, "But Jessica knows…" He paused after feeling like he was a pawn in the situation. "So what? You two plotted this and had me be the accomplice?"

"Jessica has no idea; I didn't tell her anything either. Just keep quiet about it J, this all falls back on me anyway so it's nothing for you to worry about"

Shaking his head in anger, J rushed past him and out of the house. Baz wanted him to stay on his good idea because that could be used to an advantage. Since Smurf was snooping around, he knew J could play it cool but wondered if he'd throw him under the bus. If that were the case, he needed to keep Jessica with him. The two of them could take the money and run but Baz wanted to see Smurf get taken down off her throne for good.

Jessica felt like a living zombie over the past two days. She had trouble sleeping over her fight with Baz and now she had trouble dealing with Smurf. If either one of them were trying to give her a heart attack, she felt like she was on the verge of one.

As she climbed out of bed, Jessica nearly died with the sun smacked her in the eyes and she groaned loudly. She had fallen asleep for a while, felt somewhat refreshed until she saw how cheery it looked out the window. On top of it, she felt like she was going to throw up and she knew that morning sickness feeling well. Hopping into the bathroom, she braced herself for the next wave that hit her, but it went as away quickly. Jessica prayed that she wouldn't feel like that all day because she was planning to go down to the beach to think some things over.

Before all that, Jessica needed to eat something as she didn't feel like it after Smurf's last night. The betrayal she felt was strong and Baz hadn't reached out to her whatsoever. It didn't surprise her though; he had every right to feel betrayed just like she had. The thing that bothered her most was the fact that they were going to have another child.

Jessica tried brushing it out of her mind while she moved to the little kitchen in order to make breakfast. She put two pieces of bread in the toaster, tied her hair into a ponytail while she waited and once it was done, she grabbed the orange juice. The combination didn't sound one bit appealing to her, but she could at least get something in her stomach. After taking one bit of the crunchy toast, a knocked echoed through the quiet apartment. Jessica waited to see if it was someone next door but then she heard it again and knew that someone was outside.

Placing the bread down, she wondered if it were Baz and she really hoped it wasn't. As much as she wanted to explain more about what happened, it was too early, and she didn't want to go through that with him at the moment. As she approached the door, she peered out the window next to it and her jaw nearly dropped.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me…" She said to herself before undoing the lock and ripping the door open. "What are you doing here? How did you even get my address?"

"I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd stop by. You never had a chance to show me the place" Smurf stood outside, fresh faced and ready for the morning. She was wearing black jeans, a tight white shirt and black leather jacket. It was also too hot outside to wear all of that.

"That doesn't even answer my question. Who told you where I lived?" Jessica repeated, knowing that she never said a word. When she got out of rehab, she got the apartment but never mentioned to Smurf where it was. She of course told her brothers but didn't want Smurf to know.

She cocked her head slightly and looked at her daughter through her dark sunglasses. "No one did, I just know what places are for rent around here. The guy that lives down from you used to live in one of my old buildings. I ran into him before you moved in and he told me that you were going to be living here" Smurf looked past her to see inside. "I still don't know why you don't rent one of mine. It's much bigger than this"

"I'm the only one living here, I don't need a bachelor pad. Unlike the boys, I'd rather live on my own than under my Mother" That was one of the big differences between her and her brothers, Jessica made a point to break away. All of the boys lived under Smurf in some way and not even Catherine knew the house was owned by Smurf. "What do you want?"

"You aren't going to invite me in?" Smurf ignored her as she could see Jessica gripping the door harshly. Jessica debated on telling her no but then again, it was Smurf. She'd just waltz in even if she closed the door on her face. Stepping aside, the elder Cody walked in and began looking around the place. "Really…A one-bedroom apartment like this is enough for you? Look at how little the kitchen is, how are you going to entertain anyone?"

The apartment wasn't in Smurf's style either, as she preferred a retro tone, rather than a complete beach look. Jessica watched her intently as she poked around the living area before speaking. "I'm not looking to entertain anyone"

Smurf peered at her for a second before moving towards the narrow hallway and into Jessica's bedroom. She stayed where she was and crossed her arms over her chest before quickly unfolding them. Pulling at the oversized t-shirt she had on, Jessica wanted to make sure that there wasn't an outline around her stomach. Two months wasn't much but she felt paranoid, especially with her snooping around.

"I forgot, you were never much of an entertainer compared to Craig" Smurf told her, calling out from in the bedroom then finally reappearing in the hallway. "Then again, the only person you've ever wanted to entertain was Baz and you did a great job of that"

"Do you really have to bring him up every single time you see me? It's never, hi Jessica, how are you today? It's always Baz this, Baz that. Do you see him here? No, thanks to you I don't think I'll see him for a while"

Slipping off her sunglasses, Smurf smirked at her faintly. "Whose fault is that? I wasn't the one hiding a secret child from him. I didn't know you two were even trying to be together, I thought he was still faking the whole mourning widow situation. Actually, before you came along, Lucy was in the picture so I wouldn't start thinking that he in serious in this relationship your having"

"Why did you even come here?" Jessica asked, completely ignoring what she said. She wasn't going to know the whole truth so there was no need in trying to defend herself or him. "I'm not going to keep asking and if you don't tell me, I'd rather you leave"

Smurf had been taken back by her remark, knowing she struck some sort of nerve in her daughter. She stepped closer to her before digging into her large bag she had over her left shoulder. "I thought you might like this back" Pulling out a navy folder, she held it out and Jessica took it slowly.

Flipping it open, her ocean eyes scanned looked at the piece of paper that was inside. "How did you get this?" Taking her eyes off of it, Jessica was completely caught off guard.

"Oh, I just stumbled upon it. I can't believe you never told me about you having a child but then again, why would you? I was such a horrible Mother to you…" She said with a faint drip of sarcasm in her voice.

Jessica had been holding the birth certificate that she had when Dylan was born. She only had one copy and tucked it away in a box in her closet. There was no way that Smurf could have gotten a hold of it unless she magically went through her things. That made her pause at the thought after she remembered what happened months ago.

"Wait, did you break into my apartment to get this? Was it you?" Jessica questioned, her mind floating back to the time when she called Baz to check it out. "It wasn't Javi, was it?"

Instead of answering her, Smurf instead opted for a smirk. That reaction made Jessica sigh loudly before throwing the folder onto the countertop. "You can't just go break into people's apartments Smurf. I can't believe you broke in here just so you could get dirt on me. How sick are you?"

"I did you a favor because I did my research. I thought maybe you'd like to know or actually let the family know that they have a nephew somewhere out there"

"I can't believe you…This is so ridiculous that I don't even have words right now"

"You should be thanking me because I found him" Jessica's face had a dropped from disgusted to shock in a matter of seconds. As much as she wanted to know the truth, it was better to keep it tucked away.

It hadn't been an easy decision for Jessica, and she wanted to keep that in the back of her mind. Dylan was better off without the Cody family because God knows what his life would have been like with them. At the same time, she wondered if his life was okay because she heard all sorts of things about foster care. In her mind, it was better to not know. Then that way, she wouldn't have to track him down. Jessica cared for him; she just didn't want him in their lifestyle.

"I did a little digging and a little asking and I found Dylan. He lives in Los Angeles, has a couple foster siblings and two parents. He never got formally adopted so his name is still the same. I can give you all the info if you'd like, I'm sure you'd love to catch up. Maybe he'd like to meet the family"

"Get out…Please just get out of my apartment" Jessica told her before turning her back. She stepped back into the kitchen in order to finish her breakfast. She wanted to ignore her and her comments because she had enough running her mind. She actually hoped that if she kept ignoring her, she'd leave.

Smurf could take the hint and even though she had more to say to Jessica, she decided she was going to leave…But she still had something on her mind.

While Smurf reached the door, she placed her hand on the doorknob and paused. "Can I ask you a question?" Jessica looked at her, waiting for her to fire away. "Where's the money?"

"What money?" Jessica asked, confusion spreading on her face. "I have no clue what you're talking about"

"All the money that I have saved for this family, it's all missing. I've been keeping a stash just in case something happened to me then you all would have a backup. Now it's missing"

"You really think I'm going to steal money from you? I'm not that stupid" She told her and then it clicked in her head. Jessica's face changed and she quickly caught her composure. "You've got a lot of people out there who don't like you"

Nodding her head in response, Smurf opened the door then slipped her sunglasses back on. Jessica wasn't sure if she seemed suspicious but now that she knew the truth. Smurf didn't say anything else and walked out, closing the door behind her. The Cody sister waited a couple seconds before moving over to the window to make sure she was leaving. When she saw Smurf's car stroll down the street, Jessica raced into her bedroom for her phone.

Dialing Baz's number, she listened to it ring and go straight to voicemail. Debating on leaving a message, Jessica hung up then redialed. After getting the same response, she tossed the phone onto her bed. As if things weren't getting complicated enough, things were about go south and fast.
