Hermione pulled against the ropes holding her to the chair. She was actually surprised she was just being held with robes and not bound with magic. Maybe he couldn't figure out how to do the spell? She'd never seen him get it completely right at school.
"Ron, let me go," she ordered. Ron laughed.
"Really? You really think I'm going to just let you go, 'Mione. Don't you see what you've done? You and I are supposed to be together, and then you went and did that. You shattered me! You destroyed every plan I had for our future."
"I never did anything like that! We shared a kiss, a few dates, we weren't even together a full year."
"Whore," Ron spat at Hermione. She wiggled her wrists against the ropes. They were actually tied really well. If she'd had her wand, maybe she could get out, but without it, she had no clue.
"Ronald Weasley! What would your mum say if she heard that coming out of your mouth?"
"She's the one who said it first, leading me on like that, like you and I were going to marry, have our large family."
"Ron, let me go. People are going to come looking for me," she tried bargaining. She didn't even know if anyone would realize she was missing. She worked late hours. She wasn't expected home any time soon. Work wouldn't realize she was gone, they'd just figure she'd gone home for the night. She might not be missed until morning. That thought sobered her slightly.
"No one's looking for you, especially not that Death Eater you claim to love. He's warped your mind, 'Mione. You were just too weak to resist it."
"Let me go!" Hermione screamed, shaking with fury.
"No, you're not going anywhere, 'Mione. You're going to pay for leaving me, pay for destroying my life. Mum always said to finish things, never leave anything left undone. You and me, we're not finished. You haven't paid for what you did, 'Mione, now since I can't have you, no one will," he whispered, drawing his wand. Hermione shook with both rage and fear. She knew at that moment she had to act, do something, anything. Ron wasn't in his right mind, or maybe he was, she knew how disappointed Mrs. Weasley had been when things had fallen apart. She'd been pretty obsessed with Hermione marrying into the family.
"Ron, please, we could try it again? We've both grown up, I mean, we were young..." she offered, hoping he'd take the bait and at least pause. Maybe if he stopped and thought about this-
"No, that time's over, 'Mione. You had a chance. You cheated on me, you destroyed me, no, you need to pay," he growled, drawing a knife from somewhere. Hermione stared at it, wondering if she could figure out a way to get it away from him, use it to escape somehow. Ron pressed it against her neck. Hermione fought hard to stay in the present, to keep the flashbacks of Malfoy Manor from surfacing. She could feel herself losing that battle. Her breathing became more rapid, her heart pounding. The blade pricked the skin and suddenly Ron was thrown backwards. Hermione's hair sparked with magic, her skin glowed. She could feel the ropes slowly starting to loosen from her wrists. Ron was back on his feet, his eyes nearly glowing with madness.
"No, you're not getting away that easily," he yelled, brandishing his wand again. "Aveda K-" he started to scream. Hermione threw herself to the left, the chair falling with her. She felt her arm crack as she hit the floor. She bit her lip to keep from screaming in pain.
"Aveda," Ron started again. Hermione pulled her arms free and scrambled to her feet, running as fast as she could towards the door in the far corner of the room. She felt something whiz past her face, could feel her skin split. She ignored it and kept running. Finally she reached the door, fumbling with the handle for a moment before it turned in her trembling hands. She shoved it open and stumbled into the darkness of night. She had no idea where she was, Ron had managed to knock her out to bring her here. Shaking badly she closed her eyes.
Determination, dedication, destination, she thought, hoping beyond hope she could do this. She knew she'd done something wrong before she'd even landed. Her arms throbbed, she could feel warmth pouring down her shirt.
"Hermione?!" she heard Severus scream as things went black. The last thing Hermione was aware of was a pair of arms catching her.
Hermione blinked her eyes open. They felt so heavy. Everything felt heavy, foggy.
"Shh, sleep, Hermione. You're safe now," Severus' voice promised. Hermione could feel someone kiss her forehead. She'd done it. She'd escaped from Ron. Her eyes flew open. Ron!
"Where? Did you get him?" she asked, looking around wildly. Severus was standing beside her bed, her hand in his.
"Mister Weasley was apprehended this morning, Hermione. The aurors were able to use your botched apparation to find where he was hiding out. He will not bother you again."
"He said horrible things, Severus, about both of us," she whispered, realizing she couldn't feel the left side of her body. She looked over.
"You splinched yourself badly, Hermione, but you will recover. Right now, you're on numbing potions to keep the pain from being too much. What happened? I figured out some of it, but I know the aurors are going to ask."
"I know, I know, I was at work and then I was leaving. Something hit me in back of the head."
"It was a bludger's bat. They found one when they arrested Mister Weasley. It had your blood and hair on it. Apparently he had been planning this awhile. There were files upon files of how to get you, where to take you. The property where they found belonged to a distant family member, one long passed."
"Ron said Mrs. Weasley knew about what he was doing, that she'd be proud of him for taking care of things, "she whispered. Severus nodded.
"He did implicate that his mother was at least aware of your abduction and imprisonment. They are looking into it now. For now, until they come to get your side of the story, you should rest, my Hermione. You're safe now," he promised, kissing her forehead again. Hermione smiled, curling against him slightly and closing her brown eyes and falling back into a dreamless sleep.
