Well, Chapter 9. Here it is.

Not a whole lot else to say.

Kinda boring compared to past Chapters if I may say so myself, but meh. Those kinda Chapters are needed as well.

Anyway, that's about it for this time around.

Hope you have a good read and see you at the bottom.

Kay bye.

XXX

'Well...this is madness if I ever saw it…' The thought persisted in his mind as he slowly allowed himself to take the sight in.

A city ruined, signs of the invasion and the battle which followed visible in the crumbling city walls, the red-stained streets, the whimpering echoing from throughout the city.

Cries and screams of pain overflowing his now enhanced sense of hearing, the last embers of the human masses kept in chains like cattle on display.

The laughter of the invaders as they trampled on basic decency, smearing what Eidolon believed to have once been a very nice city with their arrogance.

In the distance he saw a group of people kept together, just one of many such groups to be found. Guarding them were a couple of Beastmen, each one more monstrous in appearance than the last. One of the Beastmen, a burly one which looked like a Panda of sorts, approached the group and without much consideration just grabbed the human closest to him, a young man barely in his twenties.

Not wishing to deal with the process of removing his chains the Panda simply grabbed the man by the legs and pulled, ripping them off and leaving the part of his legs under the knee hanging to the chains.

A scream of pain followed before shock washed over the man and his eyes rolled back inside his head. He was completely out when the Beastman ripped into his shoulder and ripped the flesh clean off, dying unaware of his own end.

It was certainly not something he enjoyed watching but even so, Eidolon found himself unable to care too much about what was going on.

'...Geez. Feels like I'm watching this from someone else's eyes…'

"My. Lord." The blue insectoid spoke as he and Solution followed Eidolon as he strolled around the city, his Skill keeping their presence hidden. He was glad to find out the Beastmen had no means of spotting them. "A. Question. If. I. May."

"Sure, you can just ask from now on, no need for permission."

He heard a wheeze of breath behind him before the question came. "What. Exactly. Is. Our. Goal. Here?"

"Hmm...well, I guess checking out a possible enemy. Scouting their numbers and strength, stuff like that." Eidolon was well aware what Nazarick as a guild base was capable of, but that of course only applied in YGGDRASIL.

But this was not YGGDRASIL. How much did their strength really mean in this world? How much could they rely on their own knowledge? Those were questions of rather high priority in Eidolon's mind. "...Say, Cocytus."

"Yes. My. Lord?"

"You're a Floor Guardian. So tell me: the Beastmen in this city alone, could we take them on?"

They had lived through a similar siege back when all members of Nazarick were still active in the game. A force of one thousand five hundred had tried to conquer Nazarick, but were ultimately successfully pushed back and defeated. However, one had to remember that not all had been Players. Mercenary NPCs had made up a big chuck of that raid. And even among the Players, not all of them had been Level 100, either.

However, it had still been just one thousand five hundred.

Eidolon wasn't Demiurge, he couldn't figure out their exact number or even an approximate just from one look from the skies. But there were many of them.

Thousands.

Maybe even enough to reach five digits.

'In other words, a shit load of them.'

Of course, he wasn't that stupid, either. Eidolon knew that Gargantua alone could take of at least half of them on his own, if not all of them.

But other matters had to be taken into consideration, as well.

What if they, by some external means and factors, had to fight a large-scale battle outside of Nazarick, where they could not make use of it's layout, traps and advantages?

What if there existed locations which naturally restricted certain actions, like casting Magic?

There were so many 'What if' scenarios, Eidolon's head hurt just by trying to think of them.

"I. Believe. They. Would. Prove. No. Challenge. To. Us. My. Lord. If. You. So. Desire. We. Shall. Have. Our. Forces. Decimate. Them. As. Soon. As. Possible." Cocytus answered after taking a long moment to take in the question. Eidolon liked that about the insectoid: he calmly processed any questions thrown his way, never once replying until he was sure of his answer.

'That was an answer I expected. Then again…'

"Then, what if theoretically we needed to exterminate those Beastmen down to the last man? Could you alone do that, while making sure not one of them escapes?"

A long silence followed, the insectoid trying his best not to keep his Master waiting but also not allowing himself to give an inaccurate answer. "...I. Believe. I. Could. Kill. Off. A. Large. Number. Of. Them. But. Not. Letting. Even. One. Escape...I. Think. That. Is. Beyond. My. Capabilities. My. Lord."

'Also expected. Fighters like Cocytus and I are strong but we lack the means to deal with great numbers of enemies. Casters like Mare are far better suited for that. That's old news, however. I though that him gaining sentience would change Cocytus's answer but it seems he is still very much aware of what he can do.'

"Then what if we only use only Nazarick's Spawn NPCs? Could we win? And if so, with how many casualties?"

He was unable to make use of the Guild Weapon and so Eidolon could not revive any Custom NPC. Firstly the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown was created to be used by a Caster like Ainz: it's abilities were useless in the hands of someone with his Classes. And secondly, Guild Master rights were needed to make use of the Staff in any Guild-related matter.

The more they could count on the spawned NPCs of the guild, the better it was for everyone. The only real cost for them was the maintenance cost but they spawned automatically, an advantage Eidolon planned to use to the full extent.

'Then again they can only go up to Level 30. How much good would that be, really?'

"...I. Believe. We. Would. Still. Be. Victorious. But. As. To. The. Casualties...I. Cannot. Give. You. An. Accurate. Answer. Forgive. Me. My. Lord."

"Hm? It's fine, it was just a theoretical question anyway. Don't think too much of it. Then again...Hmmm…"

Pondering on the matter for only a moment Eidolon looked over to Solution and nodded. "Solution."

"Yes, my Lord?"

"You are good at stealth and subterfuge, are you not?"

"That is how my Creator, Herohero, created me to be, my Lord!" She answered with more enthusiasm than usual, something Eidolon took notice of.

"Good. Then, I want you to contact Demiurge and have him go to Nigredo's. After that contact Nigredo and tell her to cast divination Magic on you. The reason for this is because I want Demiurge to take notes of the Beastmen forces gathered here and note them down. Their approximate strength, as well as possible ways to defeat them with only our Spawn NPCs and without the use of large-scale AoE Magic. My own anti-divination defenses are rather high tier, so you are more suited for the task at hand. Can I count on you?"

"I shall carry out your orders to the letter, my Lord." The blonde replied with a graceful bow, the smile on her lips telling Eidolon she was probably happy to have a task assigned to her.

"Excellent. Then, let us move over there so I can remove my Skill from you." He pointed at a nearby alley between two buildings, no Beastmen or humans in the vicinity of it. Then he extended his hand to her, Solution only reluctantly touching him after a moment. "Hey. If someone spots you, run away. Don't engage. We clear?"

"Yes, my Lord!"

"Good. Then...go." He cancelled his Skill and Solution disappeared into the shadows the moment the blue filter which covered the world around her disappeared. "...Cocytus. You follow me."

"As. You. Command. My. Lord."

'Just one. Just one sentence without 'Lord' in it. That's all I'm asking for...Haaa…'

Shaking his head at what he would soon realize was to be his cemented reality Eidolon moved out of the city, scouting the outside of the ruined city walls until he spotted what he was looking for: a lone lion Beastman, a confident guard who probably thought even if an ambush were to happen, he could take it on alone.

Just the kind of idiot Eidolon was looking for: one easy to kidnap.

'Even if he's just a rank and file, he's bound to possess the kind of knowledge we are in dire need of. Things that are common sense for them, as well as how this conflict started as well as it's progression. Alright, let's do this.'

"Cocytus, you stay hidden for now. If I need you I'll call you, understood?"

This would be his first real confrontation in this strange new world, with the exception of what happened a while ago before he ran away from the Raid Boss. And hopefully, it would be a quick confrontation as well.

'I'll run up to him, cancel my [Abyssal Cloak] then sucker punch him to sleep. He's kinda big though. And by that I mean twice my size...Worst case scenario, if I don't manage to knock him out in one hit I'll have Cocytus help me with restraining him. Yeah. A good a plan as any, really.'

They were engaged in a war after all, so any missing guards would be most likely attributed to the action of a group from the Dragon Kingdom, thus keeping Nazarick out of the spotlight and just as he liked it: concealed and hidden.

He hopped up and down a couple of times, then broke down into a sprint. Luckily his earlies tests on the mountain gave him a rough idea what his current speed was and so he could prepare himself for it. Within the blink of an eye he already reached the Beastman and jumped towards him, stepping into the physical realm once again as he cancelled his Skill.

With his speed however the guard did not even notice him despite being right in his face.

'Go to sleep, Mufasa!'

He drew his right arm back then launched a punch at he guard's face. "...What the fuuuu-?" Only for his head to be punched off his shoulders and sent flying a couple dozen meters away. By the time his feet touched the group again the Beastman's headless body fell down limply, jets of blood spraying the grass and painting it red.

Eidolon stared at the body with a blank look on his face, not blinking even once.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

"A. Magnificent. Display. Of. Your. Strength. My. Lord!"

Cocytus on the other side, having been unaware of what Eidolon's actual intentions were, simply started to clap as he watched the whole action from beginning to end.

He ignored the insectoid's antics however and tried to focus on the matter at hand. Which was that he just sent someone's head flying off with a single punch. '...I mean. I know my speed's high, but...should this much force be possible to exert with my body? I put all I had in that punch as this guy was pretty big, sure, but my Physical Attack is not even that high, it's only in the eighties. Or is it that? The good old anime trope of skinny boy defeats giant boy? If that's true…' He rubbed his chin as the possibilities invaded his mind. 'I'll need to watch out for lolis. They are always hella overpowered in anime settings.'

And he was right, seeing how even Nazarick had some of them, with Shalltear, Aura and Mare being twerps half his size yet just as powerful as he was.

"My Lord." Solution addressed him from behind him, having returned from her assigned task. Eidolon turned around to greet her and already forgot about the fact he had just killed someone. "I have successfully performed the task you bestowed upon me." She informed as she took a knee, as if already awaiting her next orders.

'Oh, wow. That's quite the cleavage.'

"Good. So Demiurge got all the information he needed?"

"Yes, my Lord. He took notes of the Beastmen's forces within the city, as well as of the defensive advantages of this ruined city. I was told to relay that he will have the reports you requested delivered to you within hours, my Lord."

"Understood. Thanks, Solution. You all worked fast, didn't you?"

"We strive to meet the expectations of the Supreme Beings, for that is the sole reason behind the existence of servants like us, my Lord." She stated with a most serious tone and expression, Cocytus humming in agreement to her words and apparently pleased with her statement.

'...If that's anything more than just plain sad...Haa…'

"All things aside, do you think I could ask you for one more thing, Solution?"

"Of course, my Lord."

"Appreciated. Do you think you can successfully and discretely capture one or two of those Beastmen? I have some plans which would involve them. I tried to do it myself, but…" He threw a thumb over his shoulder at the headless body behind him. "I can't control my strength, and my Skills are not really meant for capture."

"My Lord?" His words seemed to confuse the blonde and he decided to elaborate.

"My strength. I can't control it. I guess it has something to do with the fact that we are here now." It wasn't a false statement, either. In YGGDRASIL one could manage their Stats by equipping or taking off Items, or casting certain Spells which had the effects to weaken the caster. Why? Because some people liked a challenge every now and then. But right now he had no such Items on him, and neither did he have the time to figure out how to control his strength during a scouting mission. "So yeah, I'd be very grateful if you could capture one or two for me."

"I shall do so immediately, my Lord!"

"Thanks. This seems like a good location, so we'll be waiting here for your return."

The blonde bowed and immediately got to her second task, disappearing into the shadows once more. In truth Eidolon choose her for the task instead of Cocytus not just because of her stealth abilities, but also because of her Level.

She was a Level 57 NPC after all. Not exactly weak, but not strong either. If she could successfully capture the Beastmen with her racial Skills then it meant they were lacking the necessary defenses to resist.

Which also meant they would be somewhere lower than Level 50, give or take. And that would be good news for Nazarick, indeed.

'I do feel bad for using her like this, though. Need to make it up to her later, somehow...Hmm?'

His eyes on the headless corpse once more, Eidolon noticed a certain faint glow coming out of the body. He moved closer, examining the glow then reached out a hand towards it. Suffice to say, he did not expect it when he absorbed the glow, the soul, nor did he expect the feeling to be as euphoric as it turned out to be.

XXX

Lance in hand and donning her crimson red armour, Shalltear Bloodfallen stood guard on the 1st Floor of Nazarick.

Her antics aside, she was actually a very responsible Floor Guardian and took her duties, duties bestowed to her by the Supreme Beings, very seriously. Now that Cocytus had been personally requested by Eidolon to accompany him outside, it fell to her to guard the 5th Floor as well, extending her duties even further.

This was no small reason of joy and pride to her.

It meant Eidolon himself acknowledged her skills and capabilities, something each servant of Nazarick wished to achieve in their lives of servitude.

'It just shows how capable I am, arinsu~' The Vampire thought to herself, a prideful smirk finding it's way on her lips. 'Still, that Cocytus...He's so damn lucky. I wish to accompany Lord Eidolon, too…Ah.'

A [Message] came her way, a regular report by the forces she spread both outside Nazarick as well as within. There were no activities that garnered attention, so she told all the squad leaders one by one to continue being vigilant and report back to her.

'Now, where was I? Ah, right~' The unmasked visage of her Lord came to mind, his unnatural looks imprinted in her mind. She was sure he was not Undead like her, however he oozed a certain aura that did not betray him as one of the living, either. 'Lord Eidolon must be some sort of Ethereal I guess, arinsu~'

Either way that moment he took off his mask and revealed his looks to her and everyone else was nothing short of a reward all on it's own.

And that got her thinking. 'I wonder what type he is into arinsu~'

It was the innate desire and craving of NPCs like her to serve their Supreme Beings in any and all capacities. Of course, fighting and dying for their sakes was the highest of priority, but they were also ready to serve them in other ways, too.

More physical ones, to be precise.

'With my strength, looks and rank I should be pretty high up the list if I may say so myself. Not to mention how capable I am, arinsu~ Mhm, even that Albedo doesn't have a chance against me! Then again…' The Overseer's latest expression popped up in her mind, a cause of worry for both herself as well as every other Floor Guardian. '...Hmm. Less competition for me. With her out of the way, I'll prove to Lord Eidolon that I am the only one worthy enough to take care of his needs-'

"Do I smell slacking off going on here?!"

"Ahhh!"

In that exact moment Eidolon's masked face popped up in front of hers out of nowhere as he was squatting in front of her, the Vampire shouting in shock and taking a step back but tripping and falling on her butt in the process. "L-L-Lord Eidolon!"

"Sup?" He asked as a light chuckle could be heard, standing up and extending a hand towards her. "Sorry. You just looked so smug and lost in thought I couldn't resist."

"Shalltear. Your. Lack. Of. Focus. Is. Worrying." The insectoid voiced from behind Eidolon, having materialized out of nowhere the same as Solution.

The words cut deep, especially considering what she was thinking about just before the scare. "I-I was focused. I was focused, arinsu!" She protested before realizing she was making Eidolon wait, quickly grabbing his hand and letting him pull her back to her feet.

Straightening her back she looked up at Eidolon, ready to inform her of what had happened in the hours he was away. "I make my report: there were no activities outside or inside Nazarick during your leave, my Lord!"

"At ease, Private Half-Foot." His words more or less flew over Shalltear's head, but Eidolon was used to it already. He then drew closer and pat her head. "Thanks for taking care of things."

The Vampire did not respond to the words, her mind was too busy being completely empty and just taking in the fact he was patting her head, the joy of the action threatening her heart, still as it was, to jump out of her chest.

"With that said keep doing what you're doing, ok?"

"…"

"Shalltear?"

"…"

"...Okay...Uhh, I'm going now. Have a good one."

He made a sign for Solution and Cocytus to follow him and moved on, leaving the Vampire to her duties.

Then again she did not come back to her senses until he was long gone.

The guilt of not having bowed at her Lord's departure would continue to haunt her for the rest of the day and beyond that.

XXX

"...Damn. You do work fast, don't you?" The ashen-plum skinned man whistled in surprise as he picked up the sheet of paper placed in front of him.

On it were the details to what he asked of Demiurge just a short couple hours ago: details on the Beastmen forces within the invaded city. Their approximate numbers, strength, defensive capabilities of their location, the ruined city, and also estimates of how their own army of Spawn NPCs would fare against that force.

They were good estimates, and the casualties Demiurge predicted were only in the hundreds.

'So it's not looking bad for us, is it…?'

"Good work, Demiurge."

The Archdevil seemed to be pleased by the words, bowing his head in gratitude. "I am overjoyed to have pleased you, my Lord."

"Mhm. You're still a Four-Eyes however. Don't get too cocky."

"Y-Yes, my Lord."

Besides Demiurge there were also Cocytus, Sebas and Mare present. Shalltear was still tasked with guard duty and Aura was still hard at trying her Skills and Abilities on the 6th Floor, just as Eidolon had asked for them to do. Sebas already had his turn and he reported no irregularities with his Skills nor their effects, and the same applied to Aura herself so far.

'Which means that so far, I'm the only one experiencing strange stuff going on with my repertoire...Which is of course concerning.'

"By the way, I had Solution kidnap two rank and file Beastmen during our scouting mission. They are currently imprisoned on the 5th Floor. And that is where our next focus will be." He stated and looked over to the Archdevil. "Demiurge."

Hearing his name being called Demiurge took a step forward, his hand resting on his chest. "I am ready for my next task, my Lord."

"Mhm. Those captured Beastmen. I had our jolly friend Neuronist interrogate them for information regarding the war they are engaged in, as well as any kind of knowledge we might lack that would be common sense for them. However, that is not the extent of my plans for them."

And indeed it was not. In his mind, the next step might very well be considered crucial. "I want you to test our Spawn NPCs against them. One of each. Skeleton Warriors. Vampire Bribes. Elder Liches. Elder Guarders. Old Guarders. Pit them all against those Beastmen. If one on it's own is defeated, throw two at them. If two are defeated, throw five. Continue this until we know what number from each of them can safely take on those furries. Don't kill them, however. Sebas, can you task Pestonya with taking care of their wounds and making sure they don't die?"

The butler immediately nodded. "Of course. I will relay your task to her, my Lord."

"Mhm. Then after you have a good approximate of their strength and Level, Demiurge, write me another report like this. But, with some changes." He lifted up a finger. "One: triple the number of the Beastmen in that city. Two: Imagine ten percent of their numbers to be roughly three times stronger than the rank and files we captured. This is to amount for their leaders, squad captains and officers. I don't know if they have any of those, but a force of that size should have at at least a couple of stronger individuals. And lastly: imagine our forces fighting against theirs on an open field, where we do not get to take advantage of our Nazarick."

"I will see this task fulfilled, my Lord. However, if I may ask…"

"Always. Don't worry about permission, Demiurge. Just ask if you have something to ask." Eidolon replied casually, already the matter of him kidnapping two sentient beings and having them tortured and used as guinea pigs a matter of the past and of no longer interest to him.

"I understand. Then, if I may be so bold...Why do you wish to take such precautions, my Lord?"

He wasn't wrong in questioning him, because even in Eidolon's mind it was a bit of an overkill. After all, if Demiurge's estimates were even just half correct, their chances of winning against that kind of force were already looking good.

But that wasn't how Eidolon was used to operating.

"It's my way of doing things, Demiurge. I was alone for a long time, you see. Could only count on what I had. So I got used to going into any situation while having the worst-case scenario in mind." He voiced as he slouched back in his very comfortable seat. Eidolon really had to give himself and his guild mates a pat on the back: the furniture was simply godly in it's comfort. "And believe it or not, it worked wonders for Nazarick as well."

Always think that the enemy is stronger than he actually is.

Always create a plan with more enemy numbers than there actually were.

Always increase the difficulty of the task at hand manifold and then ask yourself: can I do this? Under these circumstances, can I walk out the winner?

Ponder on those questions long and realistically and if the answer is yes, then whatever the task at hand is actually easier than initially thought or just as hard as initially thought...Then there are no problems you can encounter which you cannot overcome.

"This applies to real-life too, you know?" He added with a smirk, the Archdevil confused as to what he meant.

Confusion or not, he simply bowed and nodded. "I see. I will take this wisdom you gracefully shared with me and make the most of it, my Lord!"

"I'm sure you'll do just that, Four Eyes. Ah, and Cocytus: I want you to act as Demiurge's assistant."

Hearing his name shocked the big-framed insectoid initially but he immediately took a step forward as a wheeze of cold breath escaped his mandibles. "…! I. Hear. And. Obey. My. Lord!"

"Mhm. If Demiurges is the brain behind the planning, I want you to lead our forces in any possible fight we may find ourselves in the future. So assist Demiurge in his task, make notes of the results of the tests he will run and memorize any estimates he comes up with to the letter. Worst-case scenario, you will need to put that information to practical use."

"I. Will. Not. Disappoint. You. My. Lord!"

Eidolon had pondered for a while on how he should proceed with the matter regarding the Floor Guardians, and truthfully the best course of action he could think of was to simply let them engage in the activities they were created for.

Demiurge was the Defensive Combat Leader, so let him deal with all the planning regarding that. Cocytus was created to be a warrior down to his icy core, so let him deal head-on with any large-scale conflict they might be forced to engage in.

'Obviously I'll jump in if there's the need for that, but nobody said I'm not allowed to slack off ever so slightly, am I right?'

"Mhm. Do your best. While we're all gathered here and stuff, is there anything any of you want to inform me of? Any reports, complaints or comments on anything?"

Surprisingly enough it was neither Demiurge nor Cocytus who stepped up to the question, but rather Mare. "T-Then, if I m-may, Lord Eidolon…"

"Of course, Mare." Eidolon replied with a soft, gentle smile. "You can ask me anything, anytime."

'After all, your Creator's weird fetish aside, you're hella cute.'

"F-Forgive me for the r-rude question, but...W-What should we do n-now, my Lord?"

For a long moment Eidolon stared at the young boy, having been made more aware of something they would need to decide sooner rather than later: a goal.

With the whole translocation stuff going on, they could do for now with just scouting the world and finding out more about it, as well as where they stood in it. But this was only momentarily. Given enough time and enough work, they would reveal more information about the world they were in. That was only a matter of 'when', nothing more.

But what after that?

In YGGDRASIL, Ainz Ooal Gown focused on role-playing and exploration, with some PvP mixed in there, too. But, that was still just a game. Each member had a real life they needed to take care of.

Go to work, earn money, survive.

It wasn't much of a goal, but it was something.

Something for which they went to sleep and woke up in the morning.

So then, what about Nazarick's goal? What was it they would do? What path would they take?

'One thing's for sure: Hell if I know.'

It was already a hard decision to make just for one individual alone. But Nazarick was a whole group of individuals.

Bigger problem yet, they all had gained sentience. Meaning they had opinions now. Opinions which might not fully agree with whatever Eidolon himself would eventually decide on.

'Yeah, this is a pain in the backside…'

"...Work."

"My Lord?"

He let out a long sigh, letting himself fall even deeper into his comfortable seat. "Work. Every single able-bodied individual in Nazarick, you all make sure they all have work to engage in. Be it guard duty, cleaning, cooking, polishing weapons and armours or scouting, make sure everyone is busy enough not to have time to think about anything else. Floor Guardians are responsible for their Floors. Sebas, you take care of the 9th Floor."

It wasn't something he liked to do, but it was more or less the only option his still human mind could think of.

"I don't question your loyalty to Nazarick, but this is a god damn whole different world we got yeeted to. I wouldn't be surprised if at least some sort of anxiety is taking root in some of our denizens. So give them work. Keep them occupied, even if the work is useless in nature. Until we figure out more about our circumstances and until we can confidently say 'Don't worry, we have everything under control', keep every under the rank of Area Guardian busy. I want them to work and rest, nothing else. Is that clear?"

Despite the enthusiastic replies he got, Eidolon himself could not bring himself to respond to them. After all, he was starting to sound just like the corporates he took up arms against.

A stupid dream which cost him almost, almost everything.

'...Wonder if those guys will take up arms against me as well? Hell, that'd be kinda ironic wouldn't it?'

He thought to himself as he gave his legs a rub, still not completely used to having them back for real.

XXX

And that's about the end of that.

As I said, kinda boring compared to past Chapters.

I'm thinking some Pleiades time in next Chapter. With that said, however, what use would he have of them for the Pleiades to get some screen time at this specific time?

I hell as sure don't know.

So if you have ideas or suggestions, do let me know. Again, this is the one story I accept such things for so far as the ideas and suggestions are not too outlandish.

Or creepy for that matter -_-

And besides Pleiades, maybe some Albedo screen time too?

Or maybe just the POV of Nysa and Cyrus as they observe her going about her daily activities while hidden away in plain sight by Eidolon's Skill.

Anyway, that's about it.

Thanks for reading and see you next time.

Kay bye.
