Sirius knew one thing and one thing only.

He would never, never give up the Potters.

That was the one thing that echoed in his head.

He knew he hadn't done it,

he hadn't given them up,

hadn't given away their location.

He hadn't been the secret keeper.

He should have been, it was that simple.

He never would have given them up.

Never.

He didn't know who had done it,

who had betrayed them.

All he knew was someone had told

someone had given up the location

of James and Lily and baby Harry.

He knew it wasn't him.

Remus?

No, he couldn't allow himself to think that.

Thoughts of Remus were some of the few

things keeping him sane right now,

that and he knew he was innocent,

that he hadn't given them up,

he hadn't betrayed them.

Peter?

No! He couldn't believe that,

Peter was their friend,

their ally,

he wouldn't have betrayed them.

Who else could have done it though?

Who else knew about the Potters,

knew where they were?

Dumbledore was secret keeper,

could he have -

no, no, he was the one person they

were supposed to trust.

He'd always been there for them,

even in school, he'd been the one

who never actually did anything

about their indiscretions,

never did anything about their pranks

and the way they treated Snape.

Snape!

Could he have known?

Could Lily have told him in some

sense of solidarity or something?

They'd been friends in school,

thankfully he's shown his true colors,

could he have told?

Yes, that had to be it.

It had to be Snape.

No one in the Marauders

would have have given them up.

No one in the Marauders would have

ever let them down.

Yes, it had to been Snape.

That thought comforted

Sirius for a moment,

but he knew, in his heart of hearts,

it hadn't been Snape who

had let them down.

It hadn't been Snape

who had given them up.

There was only the three of them

that had known.

It wasn't Sirius.

It wasn't Remus.

Tears fell from Sirius' eyes as he

faced the truth.

Peter.

Peter had done it,

he'd given the Potters up,

given their location away,

he'd been the one who had

led Lord Voldemort

straight to them.

Sirius' hands curled into fists.

He would have his revenge on the rat.

After all, friends don't

give you up,

they don't let you down

and then desert you like

the little rat Peter had become.

Sirius nodded,

Peter wasn't their friend

any longer, and soon,

as soon as he figured it out,

Sirius was going to get out

and give him exactly

what he deserved.
