After the French girl had crashed into his safe house he had to move, he had no idea who she was or how she had teleported into his safe house, but he couldn't afford to stay there after that. He immediately geared up and went back out into Gotham, looking for any sign of the girl that had crashed into him, but there was nothing. She had apparently just disappeared into thin air.
He didn't know who sent her or what her goal was. He had plenty of enemies who would send someone after him, but if she was an assassin she would have been trying to kill him, not run away, and if she was a spy she would have been trying to go undiscovered, not crash into him. It was possible that she was an amateur, someone without any experience trying to make a name for themselves by targeting him, but messing it up royally. But that would still raise the question of how she ended up with such good tech.
That suit had completely stopped his knife, but it was way too thin to be regular kevlar. And then there was that portal. He'd never seen anything quite like it. He knew that the justice league had some sort of teleportation tech, but he was pretty sure it didn't make portals like what he'd seen.
Of course, there was always magic. Which would simultaneously explain everything and nothing. Magic is nice like that, providing a nice catch-all answer while also giving no information whatsoever.
Regardless, he needed to track this girl down. He needed to find out how she found him, what she was doing in his territory, and just how much of a threat she is. So, as the darkness fell on Gotham at the start of another night, he crawled out the window of his new safe house, ready to hunt his target.
—
He finds her within an hour, on top of the Wayne Enterprises building. He lands behind her silently, his foot falls silent as he approaches her.
"Who are you?"
She jumps, spinning around to face him. Her suit is different from before, instead of the white front and red and black polka-dotted arms, it was now almost completely black, with just a few dark red spots breaking it up. Gathering herself, she crosses her arms over her chest.
"Why should I tell you."
She speaks English. He's glad that at least won't be something he has to worry about.
"You were the one who crashed my safe house, I what to know who you are and how you found me." He pulls out his guns and point them at her. "Now."
She lifts her hands up. "I'm sorry, but I'm not exactly comfortable sharing my identity with the guy pointing a gun at me. As for me crashing your safe house, that was an accident, my aim was off, and I landed in your flat, which was not where I wanted to end up." She shrugs like that is enough of an explanation.
"So you want me to believe that it was just luck that had you falling into my safe house? I don't buy it."
She laughs dryly. "Well I am Lady-" She cuts herself off.
"Lady what?"
She hesitates for a moment before seeming to come to a decision. "Lady Chance, that's my name in this suit."
Red Hood rolls his eyes. "Lady Luck, really? Sure, everyone in Gotham has a gimmick, but that's the one you're going with?"
She huffs at him. "Well I'm sorry Red Hood, at least my name makes sense." She points at his head. "That's a helmet, not a hood."
He rolls his eyes, making sure to make it obvious enough for her to be able to tell he was doing it even with the helmet on his head. "Fine," He doesn't holster his guns, but he does lower them. "What do you want? Even if I do believe you that portaling into my safehouse was an accident, that still doesn't explain what you're doing in Gotham. Not to mention your abilities."
"I'm just looking for a fresh start."
"In Gotham? Ha! Go somewhere else, Lady Chance. If you're a wannabe hero, then I'm sorry to tell you that The Bat has that niche filled, and you don't have what it takes to make it in Gotham's under world."
She scowls at him. "Well I was told I was needed in Gotham, and so here I am." She turned around and stepped back towards the edge of the building, before pausing and looking back at him. "I won't tell anyone about the safe house, I promise." With that, she dives off of the roof, swinging into the night.
