This chapter is actually just a snippet set sometime in the middle of the next one. It doesn't really add anything to the main plot, but it does add a little bit more depth to Jason.
Hood swings up to where Lady Chance is sitting on a roof. It's late, and he suspects she's also about done with her nightly patrol.
"Bonsoir, Hood." she says, not turning to face him.
"Bonsoir, Lady Chance. What are you doing up here?"
"Just looking. Gotham really is beautiful, in its own way."
He scoffs. "It's dark and gritty, like its people."
She just smiles, softly. "Doesn't mean there's no beauty in it though. Of course, I might just be missing home, the gargoyles everywhere remind me of the Notre Dame back home."
He hums in agreement. "I always wanted to go there, after I read Notre-Dame de Paris as a kid. Never had the opportunity, though."
"Victor Hugo, huh? I didn't take you for one to read the classics Hood," she teases lightly.
He thinks back to all the nights in the manor, back before he was The Red Hood, before the Joker. Alfred had been the one to suggest it to him, after seeing how much he enjoyed the other books in the library.
He stands up suddenly. "Yeah well, that was a long time ago." He jumps off the roof, swinging into the night, leaving Lady Chance confused by his sudden departure.
