"Kid are you okay?" Gently, Ava questions her son watching him go silent, staring out at nothing as she makes her way over to Kid, wearing a suit of sorts, wearing a white polo shirt with black accents on it, matching the black jacket draped over her form as she wears black trousers matching her black boots, her hair is in a low ponytail.
"Y-Yes?" Kid blinks taken aback, snapping back to reality from his mother's words, feeling her hands on his shoulders.
"Are you sure? You're zoning out." Tentatively, she points out her brow furrowed as she presses patterns into his shoulder making his muscles relax. He slumps his shoulders, easing himself from her words.
"Yeah I'm fine." Firmly, Kid promises his mother, he may not have been best when it came to handling people nor was he happy when it came to huge crowds but he was fine. He could do this, he was to be a Shinigami, he had a responsibly to uphold, a duty to fulfil, he refused to let his parents down. He loved his parents a lot and he didn't want to disappoint them.
"You sure? You look pale." Attentively, Ava argues, having had a few times of Kid feeling squeamish, sick when it came to making speeches when he was young often leading to his mother helping him get out of there. Something he was grateful for if it got too much for him but that was when he was younger, he's older now, smarter, better now.
"I'm always pale." Pouting, Kid points out making Ava chuckle.
"You know what I mean. If you want to talk." Tenderly, Ava tells him making Kid sigh.
"I know mum I know." Kid assures her, he knew she cared for him and he was grateful if he ever had issues he would always come to her he would always worry about her but he promised he was okay, he could do it, he knew he could.
"He's fine." Death assures Ava as he places his gloved hands on her shoulders as the two watch Kid go with the girls to get some air.
"What did you say to him?" Angrily, Ava demands from her husband, furrowing her brow at him.
"What he wanted to know." Death tells her as she scowls, crossing her arms over her chest, conflicted.
"You mean what he needed to know." Pointedly, Ava snaps scowling at him.
"I didn't want the invitation to ruin the night you know." Tiredly, Death sighs slumping his shoulders.
"What is wrong with this family?" Exhausted, Ava groans placing her fingertips upon her tired temple, trying to deal with the mess that is her family.
"On the plus side you look lovely dear!" Daintily, Death offers making Ava groan, a brief blush crossing her features bringing a chirpy chip to Death's shoulder at the sight.
"You really think compliments is going to get on my good side again?" Annoyed, Ava huffs trying to brush off the unfazed figure.
"It was worth a try right?" Death shrugs his shoulders.
"Urgh…let's just go." Ava grabs her husband by his hands, dragging him into place.
"Righteo!" Happily, he agrees complying to his wife's wishes.
"Quick it's going to begin!" Maka frowns at Soul wearing her formal attire.
"It was you who took most of the time to prepare." Grumpily, Soul shoves his hands into his suit pockets.
"Welcome!" Kindly, Kid greets his classmates smiling softly at them.
"Hey take a look at these guys they're dressed up all fancy pants." Impressed, Liz points out wearing the same ruby red suit as her sister.
"What's the matter Kid? You don't look well." Concerned, Maka points out surprising Kid who had zoned out briefly.
"Oh…I'm sorry." Apologetic, Kid smiles strained.
"I'm so hungry…" Blackstar bellows.
"Uh…how gentlemanly…anyway thank you so much for coming tonight we celebrate the founding of DWMA please come inside, my father will be giving his greetings shortly." Politely, Kid gestures for the group to come inside, inviting them inside.
"Hungry…" Hungrily, Blackstar whispers in awe.
"Can what father told me be actually true? Something like that exists here? Kid furrows his brow glancing to the side sadly.
"Yo! Hey! Hiya! Thanks for coming! Great to see you!" Happily, Death smiles waving his gloves greeting the crowd as Ava stands by his side.
"It's Lord Death!"
"Wow!"
"Lord Death!"
"And look there's Lady Ava!"
"They were right she really is a beauty!"
"Wow with kid and her standing together you can really see the similarities!"
"He's as peppy as ever…" Kid notes sweat dropping at his father's animated antics.
"Yeah…you sure you're all right?" Endearingly, she smiles at the sight before glancing over at him, her brow furrowed from his pale features.
"I'm fine mother." Kid sighs assuring his mother, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I know how you are with crowds Kid if it gets too much just tell me and I'll happily cover." Calmly she promises him bringing a small smile to his lip.
"Are you sure?" Kid furrows his brow.
"Sweetheart I've been covering your father for centuries I think I can handle tonight." Confidently, Ava assures Kid bringing a small smile to Kid's lips.
"I just…what father said…" Kid grimaces glancing to the side.
"It's a complicated story Kid." Pained, Ava glances to the side hurt laced in her darked features.
"I'm sure." Curtly, Kid huffs, hands behind his back.
"Okay well that's all I have to stay have a great time tonight!" Swiftly, Death concludes his speech making both Ava and Kid to sweat drop at the short swift speech conclusion.
"Urgh, Death I told you to prepare a speech." Tiredly, Ava sighs placing her hand on her head exhaustion etched into her tired tone.
"And I did." Death turns to his wife seeing both his son and his wife's looks of exasperation etched into their facial features.
"That…" Ava begins sighing shakily.
"They're all here for the food and celebration not to hear me yapping on you know?" Frankly, Death points out making both her and Kid facepalm.
"Does he take anything seriously?" Sighing, Kid questions his mother.
"He does…sometimes." Meekly, Ava smiles sheepishly at Kid.
"Ahem if I may speak as well thank you for taking the time to come here. Tonight at this gala we all celebrate something dear to our hearts the founding of our academy if you will kindly indulge me I Death the Kid would like to say a few words." Politely, Kid steps forward.
"Here he goes…" Ava sweat drops smiling at her son, a part of her proud to see her son speaking so formally to the crowd.
"Yahoo! Yahoo!" Surprised, the group jolt up at the hollering of Blackstar clinging to a ruby red carpet.
"How the heck did he get there!?" Stunned, Ava gapes at the sheer sight of Blackstar.
"I think when Kid began his speech." Death joins her side, a hand on her shoulder.
"It's me in all my glory! You wanna know the amazing Blackstar!" Bellowing, Blackstar declares.
"Of course this is all thanks to…" Formally, Kid continues his speech.
"He's going to crack…" Sighing, Ava notes her son's struggles.
"Yeah…" Death nods his head.
"Hear me people! It's me with a capital M! I'm the only one big enough to capitalize ME!" Blackstar screams.
"Anyway…as I was saying…" Kid frowns.
"HAHAHA!"
"DISGUSTING!" Fed up, Kid snarls snatching Blackstar and throwing him down to the ground, slamming his foot into Blackstar, blood spews out of him.
"And there he goes." Death watches the two fighting.
"He's cracked." Ava exclaims.
"What do you think you're doing intruding in my great speech?!" Scowling, Blackstar demands enraged as the two begin fighting against one another.
"It's you who is making an intrusion in mine idiot! My speech was really going well!" Enraged, Kid snarls.
"We should probably intervene…" Ava notes.
"Probably but they look like they're having so much fun!" Happily, Death declares.
"BOTH OF YOU CAN IT!" Ava snarls slamming her fist into both of their heads making them cry out.
"Shit…whose festival does he think it is?" Grumpily, Blackstar huffs, cradling his bloodied head.
"Not yours now I'm letting you off this time but if you try anything say goodbye to your food privileges." Warningly, she cautions Blackstar.
"Not my food privileges!" Wailing, Blackstar cries out.
"Die….its ruined my speech I'm going to die." Death the Kid whimpers, bowing, curling in on himself sadly.
"And we're sure we didn't drop him as a kid?" Tiredly, Ava sighs hands on her hips.
"I think you'd notice sweetheart. Now then is this a partner or isn't it? There's a band and lots of food! Eat, sing, dance do the hokie pokie whatever you're in the mood for." Death turns back to the crowd.
"Yay!"
"Shall we dear?" Death offers his gloved hand out to Ava who smiles softly at him.
"Eh why not?" Casually, Ava smiles sliding her hand over his as he guides her down to the dancefloor, the two having the time of their lives, dancing to the merry melody of the entertainment alongside the other couples of the gala.
"Kick your legs up to a ninety degree angle! Make sure they match perfectly!" Firmly, Kid orders Patty and Liz as they dance to the beat of the melody on the dancefloor doing some sort of kan kan lifting their legs up and down to the angle, Kid demands.
"Kay!" Perkily, Patty smiles.
"How embarrassing…" Liz groans as Ava sweat drops at the dancing trio, taking a small shy sip of her glass as she and Spirit stand side by side, watching on as Death converses with a few others.
"Look at my Maka doesn't she look adorable!" Animatedly, Sprit gushes making Ava sweatdrop.
"You know watching her like that is creepy right?" Sighing, Ava advises her friend sweat dropping.
"Oh shush, you know your boy gave quite a good speech shame Blackstar got in the way!" Impressed, Spirit smirks.
"Yeah well Kid always wanted to make things perfect I remember seeing him do the speech in the mirror a few times." Tenderly, Ava smiles softly remembering having seen him prepare said speech having expected his father's short speech.
"The perfect kid from the perfect parents." Cheekily, Spirit smirks at Ava who laughs forcibly.
"I'd hardly call us that." Tensely, Ava smiles glancing to the side.
"You're kidding, you two are like two peas in a pod." Stunned, Spirit argues.
"Maybe but we weren't always like that. There was a time we couldn't stand being in the same room as each other." Sadly, Ava whispers sorrowfully glancing to the side at the memory, feeling her fingertips flex around the neck of her glass.
"You're kidding!" Surprised, Spirit exclaims as she pinches her glass neck.
"Wish I was Spirit." Honestly, Ava confesses to her friend taking Spirit aback as Ava closes her eyes remembering his cries, his screams then remembering the still silence in the air. She just stood there, staring at the baby boy in his crib, sleeping peacefully as she had turned to the door, briefcase in hand when she hears his cry, his whimper, his little plea. She had glances behind her, her gold glassy when seeing his own gold meet hers, seeing the small chubby hand reach out to her as she had dropped the case, she had come crashing down…
"Yeah…I…it's a long story." Ava glances to the side sombrely, furrowing her brow, closing her eyes when brief flashes of images appear in her eyes, seeing her screaming form, clutching the child in her grasp, wailing, whimpering, nestled to her chest before being pried off her then seeing the flickering flames of the skeletal figure towering over her hunched over form, battered, beaten, shaking, terror marred into her facial features from the male hovering above her, grinning from ear to ear, his hands up…
"But look at you two now you've talked about it gotten over it and became stronger from that!" Spirit's voice snaps her out of her thoughts, the last image showing her come crashing down, head in her hands, wailing, screaming, screeching, clinging the blade close to her chest, crying out to the high heavens the tears freely falling but no one hears her pleas, her screams…
"I…I wouldn't say that…" Tiredly, Ava whispers, her golden gleaming hues darkening sadly, sorrowfully, looking out as she watches the party, watching death talk to people, swirling the wine glass in her hand…
"Ooh! It's time for the father daughter dance!" Animatedly, Spirit squeals joyous.
"Isn't she a bit old?" Worried, Ava tries to warn her friend.
"You're never too old to dance with your pap!" Peppy, Spirit springs into action.
"I think there…" Worriedly, Ava begins trying to warn her friend.
"MAKA!" Spirit sprints over to Maka conversing with Soul.
"That poor soul…" Sadly, she shakes her head at her friend's antics, pitying Maka for her friend's frivolous antics as she stares out at the party, her gold glare when noting Stein approaching Medusa, making her eyes narrow, ready for anything to happen.
"Medusa I'm in the city of death what do I do now?" Eruka calls out to Medusa telepathically as she leans against the podium sipping her drink.
"Wait for my signal in the signed place with Free. Have you obtained their cooperation?" Medusa questions Eruka.
"Absolutely. Crona or must I say Ragnarok will be bringing them here." Eruka reports to her.
"I see. Good work." Medusa nods her head.
"Good evening Medusa are you having fun?" Startled, Medusa flinches from the call returning to reality almost as she turns to see the smirking Stein.
"Huh? Oh Doctor Stein. Stop surprising me like that." Tensely, she smiles at Stein.
"Hey how many glasses have you had?" Stein clicks his glass against hers.
"Do…Doctor Stein?" Surprised, Medusa exclaims.
"I'm completely drunk! I had too much champagne! What do you think? Let's go dancing!" Cackling, Stein blurts out before grabbing Medusa by her wrist tugging her towards the dancefloor.
"Eh?" Medusa blurts out taken aback.
"You made an effort to dress like that so let's go!" Stein decides.
"No!" Medusa cries out but it falls to deaf ears as the two begin dancing.
"Do you remember on the graduation day of your kindergarten school you were dancing on my feet. After that I danced with your mom. We really had some fun." Lovingly, Spirit smiles at the memory as both Maka and Spirit dance with one another.
"The one you danced with wasn't mom. You danced with Sarah's mother. Are you an idiot?" Annoyed, Maka demands from her father scowling up at him.
"That's true but now you are dancing with me again. This will become a good memory because from now on I will be a good father!" Firmly, Spirit promises Maka.
"Impossible!" Maka refuses huffing.
"Medusa…Sid didn't return you know something about it?" Stein questions her as the two dance with one another.
"Huh? Is he alright? No I don't know anything." Medusa feigns concern.
"Really? He was gone to make reparation in the laboratory let's see whose laboratory was that again…ah yes it was yours." Sweetly, Stein smirks smugly down at Medusa who bows her head, a still silence in the air.
"What are you talking about? I don't know anything." Aloofly, Medusa refuses.
"What is a dangerous witch like you doing here? Of course I can guess already." Stein smirks.
"You are really drunk don't you want some water?" Sweetly, Medusa smiles.
"I was never drunk not once. Anyway, why are you so interested in that kishin?" Murderously, Medusa sneers scowling at Ava and Death, the two-standing side by side, seeing Lord Death's arm around her as they converse with people, her eyes narrowing at the two.
"I don't think you hid yourself so well to just observe weapons and meister. You already know right…witch medusa." Stein scowls down at her as her eyes darken turning snake like, smirking sadistically at Stein, the witch finally unveiling herself bare before the sadistic surgeon that is Stein.
"If Lord and lady death weren't here I would kill you right now." Menacingly, Medusa sneers snarling at Stein, poison dripping down her feral fangs as she glares up at the smirking Stein.
"I'll cut you into parts. You are being modest, but you must take care of the barrier first is that right?" Sadistically, Stein smirks down at Medusa.
"Exactly, my goal is to resurrect the kishin of the first generation." Proudly, Medusa reveals, the two dancing with one another.
"And the black blood will help your goal…but why?" Frowning, Stein questions.
"The power of the kishin exceeds human comprehension even evolution itself. Even the mighty lord Death have observed and porrect the earth with your deterrent force maintain a neutral status is the best way to describe it. But each generation improves that kind of idea won't last long. Living through the same kind of life every day is that what you really want doctor Stein? You're a researcher you know what I mean don't you? What do you say? Wanna join me?" Medusa smirks eagerly up at him just as Sid comes crashing in, bloodied, battered, beaten.
"STEIN! Quick get out of here!" Sid bellows alarming everyone who turns to the others.
"Sid!" Stein's eyes widen when seeing Sid slumped on a podium.
"Are you alright?" Ava calls out worried.
"Yes I dove underground when the explosion took place still…today lord death has left the death room they were waiting for that day….!" Dutifully, Sid reports to the others as Ava's eyes expand when hearing the news.
"Where is…Medusa!" Stein snaps turning to glare at the witch flipping herself over the balcony and dropping down, landing upon one of her giant arm snakes.
"Free the barrier! Trap them all!" Medusa calls out as the werewolf removes its cloak.
"Understood! Liberation of the soul contract! Wolf, wolf, wolf…" Free nods beginning to focus as a key is formed from the cube enveloping the room.
"Eruka maintain the place where the box will appear!" Medusa calls out to the witch.
"Arithmetic magic!" The two chorus focusing.
"Oh you got to be…!" Angrily, Ava seethes.
"So it has begun! Naigus!" Soul resonance! Sid draws out his knife raising it to the high heavens.
"What's happening!?" Mystified, Maka cries out.
"Space is being deformed that's bad they want to trap us!" Stein scowls up at the shield feleing the tremors course through the ballroom.
"COMPULSIVE BURIAL!" Bellowing, Sid roars to the high heavens, slamming the blinding balde to the ground.
"The hell!?" Shocked, Ava screeches as suddenly she, Kid, Maka, Blackstar, the twins and Tsubaki fall back when coffins made of cement form from behind them as they are thrown backwards into coffin.
"Sid!" Stein calls out to him.
"We're all relying on you." Sadly, Sid smiles as Ava looks up at Death, the two nodding, no look of panic between the two, a look of trust, patience and understanding between the two, nodding at one another as Ava comes crashing down into the dark depths of the unknown…
"The limit is one hour I cant keep it more than that." Truthfully, Free informs Medusa and Erika.
"Understand we'll wake it up within that time." Erika nods her head.
"We can't waste time where's Crona?" Medusa demands from the two just as they hear the roar of Ragnarok making them turn to Crona flying through the sky courtesy of Ragnarok's wings where behind them…
"I brought them…" Meekly, Crona whispers, lying limp in the air as behind Crona is…
"Mizune!" Eruka calls out when recognising said family of mice cheering in the sky soaring through the air as the numerous witches nod their heads. Erika grimaces sadly staring at the sight of the family, Eruka stops waving at said family, guilty having lied to them as she internally apologies to said family saying lord death had killed the eldest mizuna sister to get their aid.
"Mizune perfect timing I'm continuing on you for the rest destroy death city! Eruka the briefcase?" Medusa turns to the girl.
"Here it is!" Eruka reveals said briefcase.
"Good let's get underground now! We are going to resurrect the Kishin!" Determined, Medusa declares as they descend down, now more than ever ready to succeed in their plan.
"1, 2, no 8!? I sense 8 witches and a demon sword!?" Scowling, Kid furrows his brow swiftly standing as he and his classmates alongside his teacher land in the lower levels of the academy, his brow furrowed focusing on the souls outside.
"What's happening to death city!?" Maka questions gasping when she stumbles swaying slightly from the tremors of the academy courtesy of said sisters wreaking havoc upon Death City.
"The city is in a state of emergency calm down and listen to me. Below the DWMA lies a kishin, the source of all madness in the world. You should know our school nurse Medusa is a witch. She snuck into the academy to revive the kishin. We must stop this at all cost." Calmly, Stein explains to the group of meister and weapons.
"Doctor Medusa is actually a witch that's crazy professor!" Stunned, Maka gasps at the news.
"And this Kishin too how is something like that beneath the school!?" Soul gapes at the news.
"It's true my father explained everything to me. In order to keep the kishin sleeping safe and sound my father can not ever leave the city." Stoically, Kid bows his head informing his friends of the truth.
"Huh so there is a reason why Lord Death never goes anywhere. I always thought he wasn't much of a people person." Bluntly, Blackstar confesses shrugging it off.
"Let's get moving we can't let Sid's quick thinking go to waste. All of you follow me I'll take you to the entrance that leads underground we may meet up with Ava that way." Sternly, Stein states the fact of the matter, lighting up his cigarette as he then questions the kids if their souls are ready to face the trials ahead and the group nod, ready for whatever is thrown at them.
"It didn't budge!" Disappointed, Oz sighs lowering his thunder spear after a failed attempt of escaping the room sparks spewing out of the barrier surrounding the room.
"Oh my we're really in a pickle here. Yep quite a predicament." Perkily, Death points out unfazed by the situation he is trapped in.
"Lord Death!" Kiluk rushes over to his side.
"Hm?" Lord Death turns to him.
"You need to get out of here sir can you escape through this?" Kiluk offers the mirror to Lord Death.
"A mirror? Unfortunately, that's a no can do. You see there wouldn't be anywhere to go. This space is cut off from all over worlds at best this sort of spell will only last for an hour or so. There isn't a whole lot we can do then." Truthfully, Lord Death explains to Kiluk.
"Oh…I understand." Dejected, Kiluk bows his head saddened.
"Sorry about that kid." Lord Death tries to comfort the kid.
"Lord Death aren't you worried about your wife?" Kiluk questions confused.
"Why would I be?" Confused, Lord Death quirks her head to the side.
"She could get hurt!" Kiluk points out only to furrow his brow from the chuckle escaping Lord Death's lips humoured by the sheer motion alone.
"Kid, my wife has been hurt more times than most but she's the sort that when it came to the stone, she would continue fighting to the bitter end. I have faith in my wife's abilities I know her just as I know she'll do whatever she can to keep her family and everyone safe." Resolute, Lord Death explains to Kiluk pride placed in his tone bringing a small smile to Sid's lips when hearing the genuine devotion Lord Death puts in his words.
"Lord Death…Damn we've been acting so complacent we're just too used to peace." Frustrated, Kiluk slams his hat down on the floor, taking a seat below, crossing his legs over the other.
"Hey now there's nothing wrong with being used to peace. I think we should get more used to it cause that would mean the world is a peaceful place. So we're going to sit here preserving the peace because that's what the academy was built for as for the rest of it, it's all up to them now." Lord Death kneels down, taking the hat from the floor and popping it on his head as they continue to wait for this spell to fade away.
"This is the entrance we need." Stein states as they approach the temple entrance way, their brow furrowed when noting the Egyptian aesthetic around the place.
"Where's mother?" Kid furrows his brow they had planned to meet up but…
"Knowing Ava she's gone on ahead." Stein says.
"On her own?" Kid furrows his brow panicked at the thought.
"Your mother may not have the best track record but when it comes to this sort of thing you'd be surprised." Stein smirks as they enter the entrance heading into the dark depths of the temple beneath DWMA.
"So this…is the true face of the bounded blade urgh!"
"I am in no mood today." Truthfully, Ava deadpans as Medusa thrashes, whimpering when she is dangled high into the air, feeling the crisp claws dig deep into her throat, hearing the brief crunch of bone alarming her. Hurriedly, she feels one of her many slithering snakes attempt to take its place, trying to keep her throat from collapsing.
"So that's how it is." Amused, Ava smirks sadistically making Medusa grimace, a shy shiver shuddering down her spine when feeling the swarming snake within her go eerily still its small hissing shifting to a still silence.
"Oh come now what's got you in such a bad mood?" Meekly, Medusa croaks out only to heave, coughing crimson splattering across the unfazed bored looking Ava, staring straight at her despite the crimson smear upon her shirt.
"Great. My son's going to have a fit now thanks to your filth." Fuming, Ava slams Medusa to the ground who releases a choked gasp, salvia spewing out alongside beads of ruby red as Ava slams her heel into Medusa's torso making her cry out, hearing the crisp crunch of bone breaking, her rib cage making her scream.
"Let's see you invade my home, you break the trust my husband gave you and now you're endangering the life of my family why the fuck do you think I'm in such a bad mood?" Scowling, Ava places her hands behind her back beginning to circle around the heaving Medusa curling close to herself similar to a cocoon of a snake slithering, coiling in on itself as Ava simply stares down at the bloodied mess unaware of the witch's small smirk as a small streak of an arrow protrudes out of her cracked bloodied bruised lips, forming a vector plate beneath Ava who gasps when suddenly she feels an arrow impale into her side.
Stunned, Ava's alarmed gold glare down at the purple arrow impaled into her side making her stare simply bored. She simply arches a brow making Medusa's eyes expand when she steps back, watching the crimson gushing out of her side begins to heal up.
"Your regeneration abilities seems to be slower, slower than your brother." Medusa observes as she uses her vector arrows spurting out from her battered beaten form diving down at her as she clutches her wound, glaring at the storm of arrows thrown her way. She grits her teeth together, a look of fury marred into her facial features. She slams her heel down on one of the arrows aimed at her. She crouches down then propels herself skywards, leaping over the arrows some stray strikes causing crimson droplets to come crashing down, splattering, staining the tiles below her but she remains unfazed, she still remains standing, she still remains screeching as she charges at the mystified Medusa.
Medusa gasps when once again she is grabbed by the throat, releasing a small squeak as she is thrown to the side, Ava continuing on ahead, focusing on the task at hand, having more important things to deal with than the witch, unaware of a coal black feather falling brushing against the bloodied bare cheek of Medusa, her gold hue narrowing into disdain at the sheer sight of the flimsy feather.
