ScareS 3, Sonadow (Part 1)
It looked a little chaotic today in the living room of Sonic's and Shadow's home. On the rectangular cupboard, on that was the flat screen TV, were little shiny things littered: fake gems, vials with perfumes, silver painted decoration objects, and jewelry of all sorts. On the carpeted floor and on the small living room table stood carton boxes. Most of them were closed and had names written on it, like 'Books – cooking', 'Style magazines', or 'Make Up'. Furniture, like a dresser, a nightstand and a little chair, that looked too delicate to actually be used as something to sit on, stood in one corner. A giant mirror, that looked too expensive for this moderate home, stood next to the doorway, that connected living room and kitchen. It looked like a planned chaos.
On the dark leather couch, standing against the wall, that was in a right angle to the one with the kitchen door in it, was a blue hedgehog with peach belly and arms, who had curled himself up comfortably and was reading a book. In front of him, on the living room table was an open box with the writing 'Books – supernatural'. In it were several books with a gap between them, indicating, where the book in the hedgehog's hands belonged. The living room was only dimly lit, as it was already late in the afternoon, the reading male got enough light from a simple lamp next to him on a small table, though.
Sonic was really engrossed in this book, that was telling everything known about supernatural creatures: ghosts, genies, werecreatures...
As he and his friends had fought against ghosts already, he had been sucked in a book by a genie and he himself had been forced to be a werehog for a while – he hated the memories of this time, really –, he had all the reason to read about this.
Who knew, what life would throw at them next? Zombies? Phantoms? Werewolves, fitting to the werehog? Well, if he became a werehog again, he'd know what to do, the book told him that much. He simply needed to be shot with a silver bullet to return to normal, as he wasn't a born werecreature.
He guessed, that he could bring Shadow to do this – if he pissed his boyfriend off enough beforehand, that is. Oh, he could slobber him as a werehog! The thought – and the images he got from it – made him snicker uncontrollably.
He vaguely heard the backdoor in the kitchen open with a shout of "I'm home!" and the sounds of someone entering the living room over his snickers, that became quickly laughter, that made him hold his stomach.
A good minute later, he was done and opened his eyes to look at his dark counterpart, who stood behind the second couch, that was in a right angle to the one Sonic sat on. "What's so funny?," the dark hedgehog asked amused. "You would kill me, if I'd tell you.," the other chuckled.
"I see." Shadow accepted the answer flawlessly – he knew, that he was often the object of Sonic's fun, either through a prank, or thanks to a rather (for him) disturbing thought. If Sonic didn't tell him, then he most certainly didn't want to know it anyway.
"Do I wanna know, what you did, while I was away?," he asked instead, looking around the mess, that hadn't been there, when he had left the house earlier today. "Oh, that. Rouge brought this stuff over, she actually had a truck to do this. Said something about 'redecorating the house' and that you had agreed to do that." Sonic shrugged.
Shadow rolled his eyes. "I agreed to take SOME of her stuff, not half of it.," he grumbled exasperated, making Sonic laugh hard. Yes, this was another way, how Sonic found fun in his partner.
"How was grocery shopping?," Sonic asked, after he had somewhat recovered, though still chuckling a little and wiping the tears, that the laughter had caused, away.
"A nightmare." Shadow huffed. "They were practically throwing sweets at the customers, I couldn't round a damn corner without a new stall offering the sugary stuff." He shook his head.
"Aww, come on, you love sweets just as much as I do!," Sonic cooed in false shock. "Of course, but not, when it's practically shoved into my face." "Well, it's Halloween and many kids will do 'Trick or Treat'." "Is that the reason, why you are reading this kind of literature?," Shadow asked with a smirk.
"So? It's the night of scares, so why not?," Sonic replied defensively, drawing the book closer to himself. Shadow tended to see habits of his as childish and to laugh at him because of those, that's why Sonic felt the need to defend his doing, whenever the other started to question it.
"Just saying, that this wasn't your taste before." Shadow smiled, before turning around. "Anyway, I'm putting the groceries away. Do you need something?," he asked, while walking back in the kitchen. "No, th-"
Sonic's breath hitched in the moment, that Shadow entered the other room, from where the sounds of bags being emptied and things getting put away were audible a second later. His mind went blank and his heartbeat sped up by a lot.
"Hm? What did you say?," Shadow called over. "I...er...I'm fine." Somehow, he managed to get his brain to work enough for this answer, while it tried to process, what had just happened.
Shadow had had to pass Rouge's giant mirror to return to the kitchen and from his place on the couch, he could see both, the door and the mirror, just fine – then why didn't he see in the mirror, how Shadow walked past it and in the kitchen? It had stayed the same all the time, that Shadow had needed to walk back to the kitchen, there hadn't been the slightest movement visible in it. Not a single speck of the person, who had passed it. As if... he didn't have a mirror image...
The blue hedgehog shook his head. This book really got to him, this was impossible. His eyes had been tired, that was the only explanation!
"Hey, er...Shads?" "Yeah?" The sounds of groceries being put away stopped for a second. "Er...can you bring me a soda?," Sonic asked the first thing, that came into his mind, that would bring the other back in the living room.
He heard a sigh, before, according to the sounds he heard, the door of their fridge got opened and closed shortly after.
Sonic quickly pretended to read still, so Shadow wouldn't notice, that he was secretly planning something. He would laugh at him for sure, if he knew of this stupid idea, that a little fluke had planted in his brain.
He looked up, when the can was placed on the table before him. His eyes wandered to the body next to the table and up.
Shadow stood over him, a smile on his face, his red eyes halfway closed. "You and your sodas." He shook his head at him. "One day, you will look like a soda can, when you continue this. Not to mention, that you become lazier everyday, when I have to bring you those.," he ended, his smile now a smirk.
The blue one just stuck his tongue out at the other. Shadow chuckled, bent down, kissed the organ chastely and went back in the kitchen. Sonic pretended to glare after him, while in reality, he looked at the mirror.
His heart skipped a beat, when he didn't see Shadow again in the stupid piece of glass. Seriously, that was ridiculous! Maybe it was broken...in some way? Too bad, that Tails was with Cream right now – the two still young enough for 'Trick or Treat' – he could for sure tell him, if this was possible.
Sonic knew, that he was fishing for a straw. He himself had placed the mirror there, it had been a completely normal one, showing him and what was around him. Then why didn't it show him Shadow?
His eyes fell back to the book. He had read something like that earlier. But where? Without much choice, he flipped to the end of the book, where a glossary was. He looked under the letter 'M' and really, there was the word 'mirror'!
He leafed back to the page number, that had been next to the word, looking at the black glistening word, that was the title.
Vampires.
Impossible. Shadow wasn't a vampire, he wouldn't kill innocents for blood...right? Hastily, he scanned the pages, trying to collect all informations given.
...nocturnal...
...no mirror image...
...drinking blood to feel warm to others...
...immortal...
...red eyes...
...black or dark colored fur...
...impossible strength, speed, unnaturally skilled, heightened senses...
...ability to warp from one place to the other...
Sonic blinked, a sinking feeling in his stomach. This just couldn't be. Okay, Shadow liked being outside at night, okay, he didn't have a mirror image, so? Yes, he was immortal. Yes, he had red eyes and yes, he also had black fur. Yes, he was stronger and faster than most people, skilled like hell and he could hear a needle drop in a filled football stadium and of course he could warp, but only because he had been built to be all this.
Besides, he wasn't drinking blood, he was only obsessed with this to...mato...juice, the blood red fluid, that he wasn't allowed to even try, that he hid, as if it was his life essence...
Sweat started to appear on his brow. Th-that was only a coincidence...it had to be! "H-hey, Sh-Shads?," he called shakily, forcing his voice to work. "Yes?" "Er...c-can I have a glass of your tomato juice?"
It grew silent. "...Why would you want some? Wasn't the soda enough?" Shadow sounded confused, but also...worried? Why should he be worried!?
"I...just want to try it. What's wrong with that?" "Nothing, I just don't want you to become as obsessed with it, as you are already with your soda." "Maybe I don't like it." Sonic frowned, now really terrified. He was avoiding this topic. Why? WHY!? "I'm rather not taking any chances.," Shadow replied with a final tone in his voice.
Sonic tried to swallow, but his throat was dry. It wasn't true. It just wasn't! If this was true, why didn't he bite him?! They were together for two years, almost three! He had so often slept next to him, there had been so many chances...
He looked down on the book again, as if it could answer him that. Ironically enough, it did. The paragraph he was looking at had the title 'Mortal lovers of vampires'. He read the paragraph thoroughly:
Vampires often fall in love with mortals for different reasons. They don't reveal their true identity until three years in the relationship, when they have found out every strength and weakness of their partners and are certain of their reaction to the revelation. After those three years, the vampires usually turn their mortal partners, at times without their consent, to keep them forever at their side.
"Had I known, that this book was so descriptive, I would have taken it away from you." Sonic's head snapped up.
Shadow stood again over him, looking at the book upside down, but, judging by the scowl on his face, he could read it just fine.
Out of instinct, Sonic tried to jump away, but Shadow was faster. Before he knew, what was happening, the blue hedgehog was pinned to the couch by a heavier black one. The book fell to the floor with a 'THUD'.
Clearly shocked emeralds looked up into demonic rubies. "H-how?," Sonic whispered with a trembling voice. How was he so much faster than him? And too strong for him to push him away?
"Oh Sonic, there is so much you don't know about me.," Shadow replied with a smirk, leaning closer to his love, who tried to squirm, but the one on top of him was too heavy to even twitch. It was, as if all of his strength had left him. Their furs were brushing together, while Shadow's legs kept Sonic's down and he had interlocked their hands on both sides of his head, keeping them in place.
"B-but...y-you...you were created...I-I saw...the Arc..." His brain tried to work it out, to work at all, but fear started to paralyze him. He was in a rare helpless position.
"True, I wasn't created to be a vampire. Remember that GUN-mission I was on, shortly before we became a couple?" "Th-the Commander forbid you to talk about it..." "Oh, was this what I told you? No, I just didn't want you to know, that I had a fight with a vampire, that ended...unexpected."
Shadow leaned even closer down to him, their chests and bellies touching, his eyes practically glowing. "Y-You lied to me!," Sonic hissed, trying again to break free, but having just as much success, as before.
"I'm sure, you will forgive me one day." The dark creature came still closer, now practically lieing on him, his weight rendering his victim completely immobile.
"After all, we'll have a lot of time to get over this." He was now inches away from the other's neck, his breath washing over the body part, making Sonic shiver.
"All eternity, to be precise.," he added with an audible smirk in his voice.
A sudden rush of strength and adrenaline raced through Sonic's veins and with a scream, he kicked the other off, jumped up and raced through the kitchen and backdoor outside, in the quickly darkening night.
He thanked all Gods he knew, that he always forgot to take off his shoes, otherwise this vampire would have gotten him already. Was he behind him!? He didn't dare to turn around and look, he simply had to run and look for help. But where? WHERE!?
