ScareS 4, Sonadow, Fleetourge, Mephilver (Part 1)

"I just don't understand why!," Shadow shouted, his quills raised in annoyance. "It just isn't possible, okay?," Sonic replied, his hand on the door handle.

"You promised!," Shadow accused, making Sonic wince a little. He hated broken promises, especially, when he was the one breaking them.

"I know. But not today.," he sighed. "Then when?," Shadow demanded. A little worried, the blue hedgehog looked out the window to his right, noticing, that the sun was almost gone. "Next time, I really promise it, okay?" And he was out the door, before his mate could utter another word.

Shadow knew, that he was acting like a spoiled brat, but he simply didn't like it, that Sonic was keeping this important part of his life away from him.
Yes, he knew, that Sonic was turning once a month into a werehog. He just had never had the chance to see it with his own eyes. Sonic either ran away, before the transformation started, or he himself had been on a mission. Now he had time – and had been stood up. Again!

It wasn't, like he could simply memorize the date and wait a month – no, the transformation was always on another day, they just knew, that it was once a month. It was even possible, that he transformed tomorrow, on 1st of November again and then somewhere in December the next time. And Sonic was the only one, who could actually feel, when it was time, it wasn't visible or noticeable in his behavior at all. He was a very good actor, after all.

That's, why Shadow had always missed this transformation – and now, he knew the date, had no mission or something like that, and wasn't able to see this again!

But not this time! He would find Sonic and support him during this time alone in the woods – if he wanted it, or not.

He kept following his mate's scent, thankful for his night vision, that helped him to see in the dark forest.

A loud 'SNAP', that suddenly echoed in his ears, broke through his concentration and he looked up for the first time in a while.

He was in a deep part of the forest, the trees standing so close together, that he couldn't see anything else, but wood, building uneven walls around him. Under his foot he discovered a broken twig, explaining the noise.

Scowling at his clumsiness, he wanted to return to his task, but another noise let him freeze. To his left were bushes, from that he had heard rustling. While he watched, the leaves were moving again and he could see two green glowing eyes peaking out between them.

"Sonic?," he questioned. A low growl answered him. Shadow smirked. "Come on, are you angry, that I followed you? You should know by now, that you can't get rid of me easily.," he teased.

The growl became louder. Shadow frowned. Sonic was, as far as he knew it, still able to talk in this form, though his voice was darker. Why wasn't he saying anything? Was he this pissed?

"Sonic? Come on, say something!," he urged, feeling worried now. He didn't want to anger his beloved uke, he had just been curious. What was wrong with that? He acted, as if he was never curious!

"Sonic, you will come out NOW and talk with me like the adult you claim to be!," Shadow ordered, getting angry. For a second, nothing happened, but then, the eyes vanished and something jumped out of the bushes to land so hard on the ground next to him, that it shook a little.

Shadow stared at his partner's figure in awe. He was now twice as tall as him and at least thrice as broad. He stood tall on his hind legs, his body covered with thick dark fur. His quills had lighter fur at their tips, as had his enormous clawed hands and paws. Long canines were bared and his green eyes seemed to glow.

Shadow noticed, how tense and ready to attack his partner still was. "Sonic? What is wrong with you? Why are you treating me like this? Do I really deserve this?"

This question should have been enough to knock some sense into him. Asking Sonic, if someone deserved something, was usually the best way to calm him and make him rethink everything – but not this time.

The werehog crouched low on all fours and then pushed himself forwards, racing towards Shadow, who snapped out of his shock just in time to jump away.

"Sonic, are you nuts!? Stop it! It's me, Shadow!," he shouted, but the massive beast just attacked again.

Shadow dodged and thought hard. Just what the heck was wrong!? Sonic had never before attacked ANYONE in this form! Unless...

He remembered, that Sonic had told him, how much the werehog was influenced by the moon phases. That's why he never allowed someone to come close to him, when there was a new moon: he had trouble with keeping his wild side and instincts under control and was afraid to hurt someone. Maybe there was one, right now, and that was the reason for his behavior!

He looked up – and screamed. In his haste to confirm his suspicion, he had forgotten his night vision and looked with it right into the full moon, the light burning his eyes and blinding him.

Before the scream had left him completely, he was thrown to the floor and countless sharp teeth between two powerful jaws bore into his side, shattering a good part of his ribs and penetrating several of his organs, making him scream again. All too fast though, his mouth was filled with blood and he could only make gargled noises.

The shock was helping right now to keep the pain at bay, but without the Chaos Emerald – that he had stupidly left at home – he would need a few hours to recover from these injuries. Time, that Sonic wouldn't give him, judging by the way his jaws closed some more, as if he was trying to bite him in half. Which was...probably, what he planned to do, he realized.

"S-Sonic...p-please...stop...," he managed to bring out with his mouth full of blood, trying so desperately to reach him, before he really killed him. The jaws left him – did Sonic hear him!? Was he back to normal!?

A growl close to him was suddenly audible, answered by another one, further away. Shadow's heart sank. That's why he let go. He needed to protect his food...his prey and former lover...against another predator. He felt, how Sonic left his side, probably to attack the other.

Some more growls were audible, soon followed by snarls and fighting noises. He forced his hurting eyes open, but could only make out two blurs, about the same size, who were around each other, trying to bite and scratch the other.

One was a little lighter, than the other and Shadow guessed, that the slightly lighter one was Sonic.

All the more was he horrified, when this exact one was going down and suddenly not moving anymore.

"S-Sonic...," he whispered, feeling, as if his whole world had just shattered. His love...Sonic... he...no. No, it couldn't be. It just...just couldn't. But Sonic wasn't moving anymore and he saw something dark grow under him.

Hateful, he glared at the blurry form stalking closer to him. "I will...kill you...for this...," he whispered towards the blurry creature, that stalked towards him, while being swallowed by darkness, the blood loss getting to him now, no matter, how much he tried to fight it. The last thing he saw, were long canines, opening, ready for the deadly bite.
