ScareS 3, No particular pairing (Part 1)
He first saw her in the beginning of October. It wasn't so hard to make her out, her emotionless face stuck out of the cheering mass like a sore thumb.
The first time, he had chalked it up to his imagination, since the face had been gone, when he had blinked.
But three days later, during an interview, Sonic saw her again. Standing to the side, her whole body without any tension and her head bowed, as if she was showing sadness. And as a hero, he of course wanted to comfort her, so he excused himself and ran to the girl. She had pink fur, he noticed, and wore a red dress.
"Hey there, is everything okay?," he asked the girl, who seemed to be a little younger than him.
The girl raised her head, her dark green eyes looking at him with an empty expression. "I came, to make it easier.," she stated. "Easier? What do you mean?," Sonic asked confused, but the girl just looked down again.
He wanted to ask something else, when he heard a call behind him. He turned around to wave the caller off, turned back – and froze upon seeing the girl gone. He kept looking out for her the whole remaining day, but she never showed up again.
"I'll tell you, Tails, this girl is totally scary. She is there, I turn around – and she's gone! And when I get to talk to her, she always says this 'I came to make it easier', as if she can't say anything, but that.," Sonic sighed, rubbing his hurting forehead.
This girl was giving him a headache. He had seen her at least ten times already in the last ten days, whenever he had been out in the city. Maybe he should just stay home for a while, maybe this stalker would get bored, or something like that. If she was one, that is. Maybe it was just a huge coincidence...
"Who knows, maybe it's just a coincidence.," Tails unknowingly repeated his brother's thought process. "And if not, it's not, like she's harming someone, right?" "I guess."
Sonic straightened and yawned. "Anyway, I'll go for a run. See you later, buddy!," he waved and ran out of their house – to stop shortly right in front of their front door.
She was there.
She stood next to the big tree opposite their house, as if she had never done something else, staring in his direction.
He quickly ran over to her. "How do you know, that I live here?," he questioned – or better: accused. "I came to make it easier.," the girl said her standard sentence. "What does that even mean? Come on, speak with me finally!," Sonic all but screamed at her. Seriously, this girl was giving him the creeps!
The girl twitched a little and looked up, searching his glare. "You have...ten days.," she whispered, as if she was telling him a secret she was supposed to keep. "Ten days? And then, what?," he asked, frowning. "I came to make it easier.," the girl just repeated her first sentence. Sonic sighed.
His ears twitched, when he heard Tails call his name and out of a habit, he turned to him – just to whip around immediately to where the girl had been. But she was gone once more.
Ten days passed – and the girl made no more appearances. Sonic started the day the girl had pointed out normally, doing everything he usually did.
And yet...he had a strange itch in the back of his brain, as if it tried to tell him, that something would happen, like the girl had hinted.
Ignoring it as good as he could, Sonic went on with his day, laughing with Tails over their ideas for Halloween, that wasn't so far away anymore.
When the familiar quake of an Eggman-robot attacking shook the whole city, Sonic immediately jumped into action, running straight into the danger, like always.
In no time he stood in front of a towering robot with large blades as fingers, that were more than twice as tall as him. He smirked. Was this all? Peace of cake!
"You won't win this time, you pesky pincushion!," Eggman roared from somewhere inside his robot. "Yeah, we'll see.," Sonic grinned and ran, climbing up the robot with ease.
He had just almost reached the tip of its head, when he suddenly saw a flash of pink from the corner of his eye. Quickly turning around to it, he almost lost his footing, but caught himself, just to see the pink thing gone. He shook his head at sonic speed. This girl was still driving him crazy, without being there!
Focusing back on the robot he had just conquered, he brought himself up above it with a jump and performed a spin dash, perforating the hard surface and starting to cut its innards to pieces, feeling the robot fall apart around him.
Finally feeling, that the robot was about to collapse, he made his way out by cutting himself an exit.
Bringing himself away from any crumbling robot parts, he stopped to admire his work.
To his surprise, instead of the usual curses of his archenemy, he only heard laughter and he looked up to see Eggman in his hovercraft, laughing almost... happily.
"Got you, hedgehog, I finally got you!," he cheered. Sonic frowned. What was this supposed to mean? He wanted to ask, but when he breathed in to start formulating words, his eyes widened in shock. He couldn't breathe in anymore! It was, as if his windpipe was plugged with something.
His heart beat in his ears like a race horse's hooves, his lungs screaming for the oxygen he just couldn't give them.
His limbs grew numb and he collapsed, on his back, hearing Eggman's laughter over his pounding heart...that...that grew...slower...
Suddenly, it became eerily quiet. The silence drowned out everything, his heartbeat, that he could only feel remotely now, Eggman, everything. Everything, but the steps, that came slowly closer to him. He tried to turn his head, but his body was too numb to move now.
He flinched weakly, when a creepily familiar face appeared in his vision.
The girl.
A small, sad smile was on her lips and in her eyes for the first time a real emotion. Sorrow. "I came, to make this easier.," she explained in her neutral voice. "Nobody should die alone, so I will stay by your side."
Sonic wanted to contradict, to scream at her, that she was wrong, that he wouldn't die, that he would be fine, but he could barely twitch anymore.
"Dr. Eggman poisoned you. He filled his robot with toxic gas, you inhaled it, while destroying it.," the girl explained calmly. "Your friends are on their way, but they will be too late. Please, don't be concerned, they will heal – and continue your deeds. The world will be safe, even without you."
Sonic could barely see her anymore, she was swallowed by darkness, while his heartbeat slowed to a stop.
The girl smiled even sadder. "I have always been your biggest fan, you know?," she whispered, just before she was swallowed by the darkness completely and his heart did its final beat.
