The ten-year-old monkey-like juvenile cleaned up her earlier electrical spectacle, reluctantly. She mumbled words that weren't mean or cruel just frustration. Emma was impulsive like her biological father and accident-prone like her mother. An unfair combination.
She didn't want to grow up. She wanted to stay a kid forever because she found out that the older she got the more things she had to do. One of which is cleaning after other people. She didn't even what to clean up after herself that's what the magical maid fairy was for. Until Luka had revealed that he and Marinette were the magical maid fairy.
But now she felt like she was the one keeping the household together as she had to change the toilet paper the other day. She had simple tasks like making sure the toothpaste didn't stick to the side of the sink when she brushed her teeth. Throwing away empty boxes when she took the last snack. She did enjoy a few chores like helping her Mom fix a meal, helping Luka mop the floors, vacuuming the couch.
She smiled impressed with her clean-up skills. Next was dismounting the TV but that seemed impossible. She reached up but she did not possess the height nor the strength to move the television of the mount.
"Emma, thank you for cleaning up but I've got this part." Luka knew that thanking children was the key to parenting. As if he didn't thank her for cleaning or helping then she was less likely to do it again. Luka signaled Adrien to come to help him as tonight was trash night and it was best to get the television out before Marinette saw the damage. "Could you get some plastic wrap and duct tape?"
Emma nodded as she knew exactly what her Papa needed the supplies for. She grabbed the duct tape from the kitchen junk drawer that contained anything from twenty Taco Bell packets to mysterious screws to a nail file. She put the silver duct tape on her wrist. As duct tape made a fun accessory. She grabbed the plastic wrap in the bottom drawer.
Adrien stood up feeling a little intimated as Luka had taken his zip-up hoodie off uncovering his muscular arms covered in tattoos. Luka was raised completely differently than him. He was allowed to do whatever he wanted as long as it wasn't against the law. He got himself in trouble and did stupid things but he rebounded sufficiently. He was the bad boy that used to run Francis Dupont but now he was playing house.
Luka was a few inches taller than Adrien and consequently, Luka looked like a behemoth in the so-called family photos hanging up sporadically around the apartment. Adrien knew that Luka and Marinette would never flaunt their relationship in front of him but he was starting to feel like this was a bad idea.
Being reminded of what he almost had. He recalled that sly comment that Luka had made at Emma's play. "Our daughter is growing up so fast."
'OUR' is a word that made Adrien reconsider whether or not Luka would flaunt his relationship.
'Was this nice guy act pretend?' Adrien shook his head. Luka had a right not to like him. He was openly after his fiancee and there was no denying that him and Marinette possessed this spark. A spark that he didn't think he would have with anyone else but his soulmate, Ladybug.
'Would I be interested if Ladybug was still here?' A question that ate at him.
Emma handed Luka some plastic wrap to prevent more glass from dislodging from the broken screen. She then tried to rip off a piece of tape. She saw her Mom and Papa do it a million times without scissors yet she struggled.
"Just hand it over," Luka said as Emma accidentally wadded the end of the tape. She was bound determine to get at least one piece of tape off even if it meant ruining the whole roll.
"You use your teeth and that's nasty!" She complained before Luka snatched the roll and tore the wrinkled piece off and stuck it to Emma's back. "Hey!" She yelled struggling to get the tape behind her.
Emma was a mix of annoyance and giggles as she tried to bend her arms into impossible shapes to snatch the tape. Adrien wondered if he should help her but Luka handed him some tape to secure the plastic wrap to the broken screen.
"We'll pop this off and take it to the curb." Luka said before he counted to three and lifted the television.
"Can you hold it for a sec? Forgot to unplug it." Luka also removed the Alexa doggle from the side of the television.
Adrien held the television awkwardly. He had no idea how Luka did this by himself as Emma had stated she broke several televisions. 'Did he have Marinette help? If she was my fiancee I wouldn't make her do trivial stuff like this.'
He believed that he would hire someone to take care of stuff like this. 'With what money?' He asked himself. He couldn't pamper her like Luka could. Funny, he always thought he be able to spoil any woman but now he was lost.
Adrien held many heavy things through his life but this television seemed to unnecessary hard to hold. He once held three kids and baby as he evacuated them from a burning. Adrien took in account that was with super strength and adrenalin. That event seemed easier then holding a 48' flatscreen lop sided.
Luka grabbed the other end. "Em, get the door."
Emma opened up the apartment door and let her Papa and Dad dispose of the broken TV. "You want to take the stairs?" Luka joked as it was pretty apparent that it would not fit the narrow stairway.
"Not really." Adrien said as followed Luka through the white hallways that had a carpet that caused your head to pound if you stared at it. "So... Uh... I know it's probably none of my business but is Marinette... You know..."
"Yeah." Luka responded as he hit the down button with his elbow. Luka leaned the television as far as he could up against the elevator wall to still have room for other riders.
When the two return to the steps of the building, there was two old ladies that were eighty something. Downstairs neighbors of Marinette and Luka that occasionally complained about disruptive noises or that one time that Emma thought it was okay to throw water balloons off the balcony.
Luka quickly opened up the door for the two women. "Good afternoon Mrs Brenér and Ms Lacharite."
"I read the tabloids young man and it's about time someone made an honest woman out of that dear Marinette of your's."
"MARTHA! You need to stay out of that man's business."
"Deja, don't tell me what to do. I'm older then you."
"By a month! You're a crazah woman that sees ghosts anyway."
The two elderly woman bickered back and forth. Luka picked up on a few keywords of their conversation as him and Adrien walked back to the elevators. Runway, diamond ring, dress, butterflies, and superheroes.
The ghost theory intrigued Adrien as the word 'Solitude' was mention. He wanted to ask the ladies about it but he just thought maybe his aunt was looking for him. She had offered him a place to stay however, he couldn't trust the Grand De Vanilys.
Not with what his cousin, Felix did to him when Adrien was on the path to a decent life. A girlfriend, an apartment, a career. He wasn't in love with the girl but he was trying to make it work until she revealed she had been cheating on him with Felix because Felix was more emotionally available and that hurt. She would of probably never reveal that she was cheating on him if she didn't up pregnant.
Although her daughters could easily pass as his. Blonde hair, one acquiring her blue eyes while the other had Felix's green eyes. He didn't know that when she confessed her sins. He just knew he couldn't do that to himself and take on children that weren't his. Did that make him a bad man or a smart man? As Felix and Chloe Bourgeois married only to divorce a few years afterwards.
Guess if he thought about it, it made him a smart man. He never truly loved Chloe like he was supposed to. Maybe it was a blesding in disguise? He only every accpeted the relationship due to his father. The Bourgeois name brought a lot of political backing, a lot of power. Power which seemed to be the only thing that his father ever cared about. Not him, not his mother, power.
Audrey and Gabriel had arranged Chloe and Adrien getting together from the very beginning. Chloe ruined this arrangement despite this his father blamed him for Chloe's unfaithfulness. She cheat on him and it was his fault. He loathed what Felix did and now he found himself going after Marinette. He was a hypocrite. He was now the bad man, he feared to become.
Marinette emgered from the bedroom. Thinking that she sorted her feelings out by using Tikki as her pocket sized therapist. "Where did the boys--" Marinette noticed vacant wall.
"Sorry!" Emma smiled trying her hardest to get out of a punishment.
Marinette sighed as she patted her daughter on the head. She oddly wasn't angry. Actually relieved as all the news channels wanted to talk about the return of Ladybug. How she's returning after a long period of absence but refuses to be interviewed even by Alya Ceasire. ChatNoir only insulted Ladybug causing the public to speculate on their relationship. "A breakup gone awry?" "Ladybug replaced?" "ChatNoir siding with Hawkmoth?"
As far as she could tell the last one was true. He wasn't siding with her. Not that she blamed him. There were so many issues between the two of them. He abandoned her and as a result she abandoned him. "It's okay, Kitten but no Wii for a month and the new TV is partially coming out of your snack allowance."
Emma knew that was a fair punishment. Not as severe as the punishments that Luka picked out. Not being able to Skype Charlotta for a week? That was completely unfair. Luka and Adrien came just to see Marinette laugh at Emma as she tried to carry her favorite chair in the house.
A Triceratops bean bag chair that she dragged around to different rooms. It was stupid looking bean bag but she loved it. She originally had a pink Stegosaurus but she traded Kurt for his Triceratops. His favorite color was pink and her's was green. It was a logical trade. "Best seat in the house."
The two men sat on either side of Marinette. Adrien had a lot of space between him and her while Luka and Marinette we're nearly touching. Adrien felt like a outsider looking into the what ifs.
"Emma there's something Luka and I would like to tell you..." She held Emma's hands waiting to make this reveal as easy as possible. Alya and Nino just casually mentioned it to their kids over pizza and games. 'Maybe, they had the right idea?'
"Am I getting a baby brother? Because I don't know if I want one anymore."
"Or sister." Luka corrected.
Emma just guessed that every baby was going to be a boy with the Lahiffes she was seventy-five percent right. She wanted siblings but that void was filled by the Lahiffe boys. They were like her baby brothers. "But I guess if I have to, I'll be a big sister. I'll be the best darn tootin' big sister there is."
Marinette smiled. "Yes, you will."
"Especially after I've had beans. Can we have long beans with pork tomorrow? With a side of mash potatoes and sugar carrots?"
"How about instead of planning tomorrow's dinner, we have celebratory strawberry milkshakes?"
Emma face lit up at the mention of ice cream. She decided she would make them even though her Mom had a secret ingredient that made the milkshakes thick. Just like the ones at restaurants. The secret ingredient didn't sound delicious or edible. Xanthan gum which with a tablespoon could thicken a whole blender full of milkshake deliciousness.
This gave the adults a chance to discuss about how everything will work between them. The apartment had three bedrooms but one was being used as sewing room as Marinette liked working from home. She could spend time with her daughter when she wasn't in school.
"Did you tell..." Adrien stopped as he realized it wasn't his place to reveal Marinette's secrets. Especially one of this caliber.
Marinette laid a hand on her stomach and clasped her other hand around Luka's. "Yeah, I did."
"If it's blonde we know it isn't mine." Luka shrugged. "I could raise a hundred kids from different fathers if it meant I could stay by her side." He laughed as he meant these utterances jokingly and Marinette knew that. There was only so much anguish he could bare.
Falling for someone and then finding out that she bared secrets. Secrets that he now shared the burden for. Secrets that will have to be buried with him if any would to of happened to him.
"You're not angry? She betrayed you." Adrien asked. He knew it wasn't his business to intervene but what if's were hard to dismiss. 'What if it's mine? What if this is my chance? My chance...'
He shifted in place as he was uneased by the atmosphere he created. Luka KNEW and yet was allowing this conversation to take place. 'Is Luka as self-sabotaging as I am?'
Marinette's eyes darted to Luka's turquoise irises. She wanted to know Luka's response. He was calm and collected when she confronted him but what would his response be towards Adrien?
"I am hurt but not angry. I don't see the point of being angered by something that was out of her control." He shot a piercing glare at the blonde man that caused grief in his household. "Similar circumstances that brought Emma into the world."
Marinette then asked a question that Adrien never thought she'd be brazen enough to ask while Luka was in the room let alone sitting right next to her. "I know this is a really weird question but is there any possible way that you and I possibly hooked up during the Omission attack?"
She had evidence it was possible. The dress shirt she stored underneath her bed. It could be his or it could be someone else's.
"I think I would have remembered if I had sex with Marinette Dupain-Cheng."
Luka couldn't help but chuckle at Adrien's words. Was it because this was an uncomfortable conversation to have? Or was it because he knew? He knew that Adrien was this terrible person that yearned to be redeemed but refused to see the obvious.
That yes it was possible that Adrien wouldn't remember having sex with Marinette due to Omission's powers, the forget-me-not ray. That he was preventing the destined pair to be together. Was this selfishness or protectiveness? Perhaps both?
