Wallburga knew her husband was right and they needed to tell Arcturus some. Her son needed to be freed and her father and father in law were her best chance. She told herself that it was about Harry and nothing else. Harry would be in danger of being sent back to the muggles if Albut learned he was gone. She was not about to allow her grandson to be sent there again. Even before she found out they were abusive she never would have agreed for him to be raised there. But he had to be with family since his believed godfather was in prison and the muggles were thought to be the only ones. But in truth she could amit it was about her son as well.
Arcturus had planned to send to Wallburga to come when he received word from her she was coming for dinner. He was pleased he did not have to order her to come. He wasn't happy she left before without telling him.
He found Harry in the playroom before the women arrived. "You are meant to be in your room."
Harry looked up in confusion. "This my room. Kreak make."
Arcturus saw Zar. "What have I said about playing with my cat?"
Harry pouted. "He like play. He play with me."
Arcturus grabbed his cat and activated a portkey on his collar. "There."
Harry looked terrified. "Where go kitty?"
Arcturus went to leave. "Where he belongs."
Harry sobbed. "You hurt kitty? No hurt kitty."
Arcturus thundered. "I did not hurt MY cat. I sent him where he belongs. Stop snivelling now."
Harry clung to his stuffed dog. "You hurt kitty."
Arcturus went to leave. "I sent my cat home. If you keep going on….."
Wallburga's voice cut him off. "Father."
He turned to look at her. "Let us go to the den."
Wallburga's eyes drifted down to the sobbing boy but she followed him from the room. Part of her wanted to reach out for the boy but she had to be careful. She had no idea what had caused the mood but she had to keep the man from losing it. Until Fleamont was in better shape or Sirius was free they needed the man to keep Harry. But she could admit she didn't like how upset he was and she was worried about what happened. Harry was usually such a sweet baby from what she had seen.
Arcturus tried to calm himself when they got to the den. He didn't know why the cat bothered him so much but he assumed it was about the lies. He knew things were being kept from him and that was not okay.
He turned on her. "I found your bear. How does he have your toys?"
Wallburga looked genuinely confused. "My bear? I assume Kreacher brought the toys."
"That would not belong to my grandson. I told him to bring toys from the attic."
Wallburga reminded him. "He was my nanny elf. It seems he brought mine as they were in An attic."
Arcturus grumbled as he poured them both drinks. "You still haven't explained the boy."
She took a glass. "I have told you that I have no idea how he woke Orion."
"You know why your husband knows him."
Wallburga admitted. "Sirius came to see Orion shortly before he died. And once or twice after. They made peace."
Arcturus was surprised. "That doesn't explain the boy."
Wallburga reminded him. "Sirius is his godfather."
"There is more to this."
Wallburga drew a deep breath. "They were bonded."
Arcturus stared at her like she grew two heads. "That boy was married to a muggle born."
Wallburga didn't deny it. "Magic bonding is different."
Arcturus snarled. "Why would he marry two people?'
"Because his father and I refused to allow the wedding."
As Sirius was their heir Wallburga and Orion had some say over his marriage. Arranged marriages were no longer done, but until recently an heir needed permission from their family. The law was over turned last year. Though Sirius had run away he still fell victim to it. His parents utterly refused to let him marry James. If he had tried to marry before Regulus died they could have. But as soon as Regulus died, Orion lacked another heir and Sirius was reinstated. Arcturus and Orion could only choose another Black if Orion had no children to leave it to. Sirius had bonded with James determined to be with him.
Arcturus was confused. The man had married the muggle born, surely she had an issue with her husband marrying someone else. He didn't think she would have been as open to sharing her husband as that.
Wallburga admitted. "Fleamont and his wife wanted to see their son wed with a child before they died."
Arcturus knew it made sense. "The boys could have. A bond is as legal, their child would be legitimate."
"Euphemia was traditional. She expected a proper wedding and a consort."
"And Sirius could not be that without a wedding." Arcturus concluded.
"Lily and James loved each other but more as siblings. They agreed to a marriage of convenience." Wallburga explained.
"Not so sibling like since there is a child."Arcturus spat.
Wallburga had an odd look. "Platonic mainly but yes they had a son. Sirius was his godfather and more like a second dad."
Arcturus was starting to understand. "They planned to wait until Orion and I died and then marry."
Wallburga didnt deny it. "Unfortunately Voldemort had other plans."
"Why tell me now?" Arcturus wondered.
"Because you needed proof Sirius is innocent. He is James' bond."
Arcturus understood. "He'd be dead if he betrayed him."
Albus claimed that he had done the fidelius charm himself and he knew Sirius to be secret keeper. Remus was the only one who may know differently but he was away. But Albus had no idea James and Sirius were bonded. Sirius would have dropped dead if he had betrayed his bond by telling Voldemort, due to the charm. The fact he was alive was proof Sirius had not betrayed the man he loved. They just needed to find the proof the two were bonded and the ministry could deny nothing. Wallurga admitted she had gone to the bank where the contract should have been but it was not in their vaults. It must be in the Potter vaults. Arcturus realized that Fleamont was the key as they needed someone who had access. The man had cared about Sirius.
They were interrupted by a distraught Kreacher. "Master is gone."
Arcturus turned to him. "What do you mean he is gone?"
Kreacher shook. "He pop away. I can not track."
Pollux was in a foul mood as he headed down the hall. He didn't understand the constant stream of guests through the holidays were over and surely it was time for peace and quiet. But his granddaughter and her husband didn't seem to agree. Even worse was her sister and the muggle born husband and child were here still. He was seriously considering heading home to Black Mount, the main of his two homes, or even Black Manor. He had moved here after the death of his wife but he was needing peace. Even the manor didn't seem big enough now.
He walked into his den which was the one place he was assured some peace. He took over the room when he moved in and even Draco knew he was not to be disturbed when he was there. The house better be under attack if you came in.
He was pouring himself a drink when he spotted a painting above his fire. "What are you doing here?"
Orion looked at his father in law who he was never quite fond of. "He brought me."
Pollux was bewildered. "He?"
Orion motioned to the couch. "He."
Pollux turned to see the couch. "What is he doing here? And what is that demon doing here?"
Orion actually laughed a bit. "Seem's my father's cat's reputation proceeds him."
Pollux sneered. "Skin the cat, all he is good for."
Orion quieted him. "It seems father was angry that the boy had charmed his cat. He sent Zar to our manor."
Pollux grunted. "He did seem miffed. But that does not explain what either are doing here. Or you."
Orion admitted. "The boy ran away."
"Ran away? And here?"
Orion agreed it was odd. "Family."
Pollux sneered. "I am no such thing. Your son's godson is no family of mine."
Orion knew his father in law would be even worse then his father to deal with. Pollux made Arcturus look affectionate. But the boy had come here looking for safety. Orion was shocked when his painting had arrived here. The little boy had told him nothing else but grandfather hurt Zar and sent him away. He needed the cat and he had gone to kitty. But he refused to leave grandpa behind too. He assumed his father would come for the boy eventually. Unfortunately due to protection spells, Kreacher could not track Harry through his Black blood as it was hidden with a glamour spell. But he assumed Pollux would summon them.
Pollux did not disappoint and he sent one of his elves to inform Arcturus where the boy was. He may have agreed Arcturus was smart to keep the boy but he was not about to be involved with the brat.
He looked at the boy who was waking. "What are you doing in my den?"
Harry eyed. "Come to grandpa."
"I am not your grandpa." He bellowed.
"Grandpa A no let me keep Kitty. He hurt kitty."
Pollux glared. "The cat seems fine."
Harry hugged the cat. "He sad he leave me."
Pollux grunted. "Cats do not get sad. You will go back."
Harry shook his head. "He send kitty away again."
"You belong with your family. If not Arcturus go to Fleamont. I'll send you myself."
Harry shook badly. "No please no. Please no. I good boy. No hurt."
Pollux was bewildered. "The man wouldn't hurt you."
"No hurt. No hurt." Harry continued sobbing.
Orion spoke up. "Fleamont threatened to send him back to the muggles. He thinks if he goes to Fleamont….."
"That he will go back." Pollux finished. But he looked at Orion. "How do you know that?'
Before Orion had to answer Arcturus appeared. "Is he here?"
Pollux grunted. "Why I sent my elf."
Arcturus glared at the boy. "You can't simply leave."
Harry pulled away. "You send kitty."
Arcturus was irate. "My cat lives at the manor. You do not."
A standoff between grandfather and grandson seemed to have come. Wallburga hid a small smile as it seemed her grandson was showing his Black side through and through. The mutinous look on the baby reminded her of not only her son but her husband as well. And Arcturus as well, he had the same glare now. From the glimmer in her father's eyes he agreed.
Orion spoke up. "Why not let the boy have the cat?"
Arcturus snarled. "I already share my space. The cat….'
Wallburga reminded him. "He stays at the manor when you are at Grimmauld."
Pollux even agreed. "If it will keep peace let the boy have it."
Harry looked up hopefully. "Kitty come home?"
Arcturus sighed. "Fine."
Harry was happy. "You come home Kitty."
Arcturus scooped the boy up and called Kreacher. "Take the cat and my son back."
Kreacher bowed. "Yes master."
He turned to Harry. "No more snivelling. The cat is back, you will stay where you belong."
Harry nodded. "Yes grandpa."
Wallburga and her father watched as Arcturus left with the boy. Wallburga had to fill her father in on what was going on. Unlike Arcturus she told her father the whole truth. She and Orion agreed that Pollux was best told it all. Arcturus they could count on for help even when he didn't know it all. Pollux was going to be reluctant to help even if he knew Harry was his grandson. From the look on her father's face she had been right about that. She waited for some reaction as he didn't like being in the dark any more than Arcturus did. But he seemed to be taking it calmer then she would have expected him to.
He handed her a drink. "I assume I better help free that boy. That child needs a different home."
Arcturus was not pleased that the boy had pulled this. For a moment he thought to get the boy his own cat but he would not reward him. But he also assumed the boy was attached to his cat. He didn't get it. The only reason he kept the demon was because it had been a gift from his wife. But there was a reason the cat stayed at the manor and never came to Grimmauld with him. His grandson had grumbled at least once the cat was him in cat form. He was not amused. Even as a kitten he was never playful or loving like he was with the boy.
He made arrangements with Wallburga to meet him at Potter manor the following day. They needed to see to the boy. He would not let his grandson be in prison any longer then he had to be. He took the boy with him.
Harry worried when he saw the manor. "No go."
Arcturus growled. "I already told you I'd not send you back."
Harry peered at the bedroom. "He want."
"Well he doesn't get everything he wants."
Pollux surprised him when he arrived. "Is he expecting us?"
"He is expecting myself and your daughter." Arcturus said.
Polux was not phased. "We seem to all be involved."
Wallburga motioned. "Maybe we should go in."
Fleamont's voice called but not from the bedroom."If you are done discussing me the tea is growing cold."
Wallburga led the way. "Here."
They found themselves in a den and saw not only the man but Severus as well. They were happy to see the man out of bed even in a chair and not rising to greet them. The sooner he recovered the sooner he could deal with the boy they were sure. Arcturus didn't care if his grandson was involved with James the child was not his family. The boy needed a proper home and the sooner the better.
Fleamont was happy to see the boy was brought. He admittedly was concerned leaving him with Arcturus but like Wallburga he knew it was the best place for him. He was not surprised to see Pollux.
Harry saw some toys. "Train."
Fleamont turned. "They belonged to your father."
Arcturus put Harry down. "You were prepared."
"I assumed you'd bring him."
Wallburga took a seat. "I have told them about the bond."
Fleamont caught the intent of not mentioning the boy. "I assume you are here for these."
Arcturus was handed a scroll."What?"
"The bond contract between my son and your grandson."
Arcturus read. "I am surprised you knew."
"We were not the ones who opposed a marriage."
Wallburga saw the looks. "It didn't stop them."
Pollux stepped in. "Old history."
Arcturus agreed. "This should free my grandson."
Fleamont cautioned. "Though you need to be careful. Albus will not let it happen easily."
Arcturus closed the scroll. "Leave it to his family to worry."
"He was like a second son and should have been my son in law." Fleamont glared.
There was no doubt that the boy was loved in the room. Arcturus was simply worse then Wallburga about showing such emotion. But the fact that Fleamont had taken in a runaway Sirius instead of sending him home infuriated them. Sirius was not his son,he was his brother's nephew through marriage. Sirius should have been sent home where he belonged. Wallburga could admit part of their denial of the couple marrying was in anger over the situation. If Sirius stayed home, and they still fell in love, the answer may have been different. They would never know though.
Arcturus stood to leave. "I can handle Albus."
Fleamont smirked. "I guess I will have to trust you."
Arcturus bent and scooped up Harry. "Leave it to his real family."
Fleamont watched the boy. "I see he is well."
"Good to know you care to notice."
Fleamont only responded by calling an elf."Take these toys to the boy's room."
Arcturus grumbled as he went to leave. "Have them in the playroom. Seems where all else goes."
Pollux followed him out. If either man noticed Wallburga had not come with them they said nothing. Wallbruga sat back down to have a discussion with the man. She knew Severus was aware so she had no worry to talk before him. Severus had been angry when he heard Lily had agreed to marry. He thought that she deserved so much better than a marriage of convenience. Her death had hit him hard. She had never been in love with James but she loved his son like her own flesh and blood. Her death to protect him was only the last sign.
Fleamont sighed. "We need to be careful. Resent my bond with your son all you want, but Our grandson needs a dad."
AN: So Harry is in fact the pureblood grandson of Orion and Wallburga. Yes still pureblood, as Orion noted it was a glamour that makes him have Lily's eyes. He was not blood adopted.
Now to see to Sirius. We all know Albus is not going to stand by and let his plans fall to ruin.
