Yeah I'm Back with another chapter and to be honest I forgot all about Karin. Well here I go.

Ch. 5 Family

-Three days later Hokage Office-

"So let me get this straight, you basically obliterated the bandit camp with vehicles that no one has seen before, freed the captives, somehow frightened a group of genin, and somehow come home with a long lost family member. That about sum it up?" asked an amused elderly Sarutobi watching Mai play with Naruto's hair while sitting on his shoulders giggling every once and a while.

"Yup." Said Naruto slightly glaring at Anko who was trying her best to look innocent.

"Well, why don't you tell me about the little girl that is on your shoulders?" asked the old man.

Naruto lifted the little girl off his shoulders and started to tickle her relentlessly making Mai squeal and giggle uncontrollably. "This little one is Mai Uzumaki, and she will be staying with me, she was the daughter of one of the captives, that was also an Uzumaki, but she died not too long after we had freed everyone." Said Naruto.

Hiruzen observed the little girl for a minute and then looked up at Naruto. "Very well, take good care of her and I believe Karin was looking for you not too long ago. She will probably be very ecstatic to have news of a new family member. Now due to your performance witnessed by Jiraiya and Anko, you are on your way to making special Jonin, now we have a few matters to discuss before you and little Mai can go home. First off you are to help Anko in the second stage of the Chunin exams, she ended up a little short handed due to many missions that needed to be completed. The second is that we have suspicions of an attack during the exams so I need you to be ready to defend the village with whatever you have up your sleeve." Said the old Hokage lighting up his pipe.

"What intel do we have?"

"We have suspicion that the new sound village is led by Orochimaru, and that he plans to capture the last Uchiha and destroy Konoha with the help of Suna. Most of this his hearsay but my contacts are all reporting similar information." Said Jiraiya.

"Thank you Jiraiya, Naruto I trust you will plan accordingly and inform me of your plan?" asked the old man. Naruto nodded at this. "now on to the final thing I would like to talk about, are you the one who has been instructing Kono-kun and his friends in Fuinjusu?" asked Hiruzen with a dry stare pointed at Naruto.

"What did they do?"

"Well Kono-kun surprised me with a seal he drew and asked me if it looked alright. Needless to say, I told him that the seal is not to be activated because it was a mess. Apparently it was supposed to be a storage scroll, but it looked nothing like one. So I am wondering why you are teaching three first year academy students the art of sealing."

"They asked, and it's not like we couldn't use a few more budding ninja with the knowledge of seals." Said Naruto with a slight shrug. Hiruzen sighed and rubbed his temple, he didn't necessarily like the point that was made but couldn't refute it as seal masters were a dying breed and the more the village had, the better off they would be. Hiruzen only wished that Naruto didn't choose his grandson at the moment. The mischief that the little brat could get up to with seals would cause him more of a headache than he needed.

"Anyway, please don't teach him anything too advanced right now, I rather him not accidently destroy the village if he tries something he isn't ready for." Asked the old man slightly pleading.

"I will try, but he along with his friends may get into intermediate levels of sealing when they are seasoned genin. When will the exams commence?" asked Naruto.

"you have a month and a half to prepare. Do make it count as I believe that I will not survive against Orochimaru in my old age. Don't get me wrong, I mean to survive but in the case I don't, I will need to put some thought into finding a new successor as no matter if I live or not after this I plan to rest one way or another." Said Hiruzen now looking the part of the tired old man that he was.

"I suppose you wouldn't mind taking this hat from me would you Jiraiya?"

"You know my answer old man, besides I have a better idea that even the daimyo would like." Said a grinning toad sage.

"Well don't leave an old man in suspense."

"We bring back Tsunade."

"You know that she will not return, she is still hunted by her loss."

At this point Naruto interjected. "who is Tsunade and why won't she come back?"

"Tsunade is one of my three students, and is very distantly related to you as her grandmother was an Uzumaki. She has it in her mind that the village is responsible for her brother and lover's death in the second war. Though… you may have a small chance to bring her back since you are family and she saw your mother as a sister and your father as a brother." At the mention of this Naruto saw Jiraiya flinch slightly. Naruto made sure to remember that for a later discussion and put Mai back on his shoulders. She stared at Jiraiya with a curious expression until he started making silly faces at her and she started giggling again.

"It seems despite losing her mother, Mai seems to still act like a happy little child." Stated Hiruzen with a smile on his face.

"She seems to not even notice her mother missing, which is making me worry slightly, also she hasn't even said a word, and that makes me believe that she can't speak, or she doesn't know how to." Said Naruto in a slightly worried tone.

"If we can get Tsunade back we can have her check on little Mai, but for now let us plan out our strategy for the exams." Said Hiruzen.

The three continued to talk until Mai had fallen to sleep on Naruto's shoulders and they went their separate ways as they had finished their planning.

When he arrived home he found Karin passed out in a chair on the front porch and sighed. She must have been waiting for a while and just dozed off. He took Mai inside and tucked her in his bed and then went and picked up Karin from the chair outside and put her in the guest room. He took a seat on the couch and thought about the plan, he hadn't told the other two about one of the vehicles that he found on the cruiser as it was in bad shape, though he had made some progress on fixing it, but there were a few pieces that he needed to make himself, but he would need it to make the plan run smoother. He eventually fell asleep on the couch.

-Next morning-

Naruto was woken up from a small weight landing on his stomach. He looked up and saw Mai's excited green eyes looking at him and her mildly babbling something incoherent. Well it was good to know she wasn't mute. Naruto wondered how long it took her to get to him, she knew how to walk, barely, though she perfered that someone carry her. He looked over and saw a slightly amused and confused Karin sitting in a chair not too far away. He laid his head backdown and sighed. "I see you have met Mai."

"Yes, it was quite a surprise to wake up in a bed that wasn't my own and see a small child climbing up on the bed. Would you mind telling me who she is?" Asked Karin.

"Kirin Uzumaki meet Mai Uzumaki. I rescued her from a bandit camp though I failed to save her mother." Naruto said with a twinge of regret in his voice. "I never learned her name but I need to burry her later. Now I believe that I promised you a talk that we haven't gotten to yet, what would you like to know?"

"So this little one is an actual Uzumaki?"

"Yes she is."

"Do you think there are anymore out there?"

"Well there is a possibility, there are many with some Uzumaki blood out there, Tsunade of the Sannin is one example. Though there could be more."

Karin was silent for a second and then asked where he was for the past year.

"Well I was stuck on an outpost island for the Uzumaki for a year. During that time I explored the island and the outpost, found many clan secrets, and repaired my ships and eventually left the island to go fight in the Kiri civil war, leveled a few forts, wiped out a fleet or two, sunk a pirate ship, and took down the Mizukage." That about sums it up. What about you?" asked Naruto. During his story Naruto got up, put Mai into a handmade highchair that he had a clone make last night and started cooking breakfast.

"Well I was in Kusa. My mother and I were living there… well living is a very loose term, maybe the word is existing, because they didn't treat us very well. See both of us have this ability to heal anyone that bites our arms, and well they abused that ability. They drug my mother out of the house at any time for trivial things like cuts, scrapes, bruises, body aches, and other small things. And if we tried to refuse they threatened to use us basically like cattle and bread a whole new Uzumaki clan, or just to kill us out right. They didn't want us to leave because they didn't want anyone else to use us to their gain. We lived in poverty for years, abused, given scraps, and eventually mom died of chakra exhaustion from them forcing her to heal them. When she died I was to be next and I couldn't refuse to heal them since I was a Kusa ninja, though I was saved by the Konoha envoy when they realized who I was. The leader of Kusa was then given an ultimatum, turn me over to Konoha and they will still have an alliance with Konoha along with trade agreements, or not turn me over and have the envoy take me with them and have Konoha cut all ties with them. With the threat of Iwa invading, they chose to let me go, and I am happier because of that. When I was brought here the Hokage took care of me and apologized to me. I didn't know why until he assigned me to team seven to replace another Uzumaki that was thought dead. A loud, brash, orange loving, blonde, Uzumaki that was lost on their first C-rank turned A-ranked mission." Said Karin with a few tears forming.

She was surprised when Naruto set the now completed pancakes and scrambled eggs on a nearby table, and placed Mai's cut up pancake on the highchair, and wiped the tears away from her face. "It is nice to see the old man find a family member that's had it rough and make their life better. Though I am wondering why he put you on my former team as that kind of took away from the heavy assault squad, even though we had Sakura. He should have switched Kiba to team seven and put you on team eight as they are the tracking squad." Naruto mused noticing the shock in Karin's eyes when he revealed who he was to her.

"Y-you're the one I replaced?! Why didn't you tell your team you were alive?" she asked now slightly confused and a little agitated.

"We really didn't get along and Kakashi already knows and I suspect team eight knows. Though if it really bugs you I can tell them tomorrow at the next meeting with your team." said Naruto as he sat down to eat as eggs didn't taste good cold. Still a little agitated and relived that Naruto was alive Karin moved over to the table and sat down to eat as well. All the while Mai was making a mess of her pancake with a smile on her face.

When she looked at the food and was a bit unsure of it as she had never seen Pancakes and scrambled eggs before and she cautiously bit into one of the pancakes. Karin moaned in pleasure from how tasty the round fluffy pancake was and blushed heavily as she realized she did it out loud. Naruto just smirked and just said "I'll take that as a compliment, though you may want to try it with syrup, it makes it taste way better." Said Naruto as he passed a jar of syrup and went back to eating. Karin grabbed the jar and poured a little syrup on one of her pancakes and ate a piece of it, she looked back up at Naruto with stars in her eyes. "You need to open a shop and sell this, imagine the fortune you would make."

"I very well could, but I rather just sit on my recipes for now. Maybe when I am old or retired." Said Naruto as he got up and washed off his plate in the sink. "Now when you are done put your plate in the sink and feel free to do whatever you want. I need to visit some knuckle heads that I have been teaching."

When Naruto was finished cleaning up the mess and Mai, as she had made a rather sticky mess with her syrupy pancakes, he had an idea. "Karin why don't you meet me at your team's training grounds at noon, I should be there with my other students. We can finally start your Fuinjustu training, and I can show all of you some seals that I worked on." With that Naruto picked up Mai and started to search for his students.

-Academy 30 minutes later-

Naruto had tracked his three students to the outdoor area of the academy and just stood there behind them as the three were sharing ideas on a few different theories on two beginner seals. He was listening to the three in their ideas and silently laughed at their ideas. He now knew why the old man was unhappy that his grandson was learning Fuinjutsu so early. The brat would be causing him too much paperwork from all the mischief that he would get up to. Naruto decided to make himself known to his troublesome students and coughed loudly, making them all jump. They all looked up to see a slightly amused Naruto with a small child sitting on his shoulders looking at them in slight interest.

"Now, I'm glad to see that you three are taking your time with the beginner seals and discussing ideas about how to make the seal more efficiently, I am a bit disappointed in you Kono." He stared at Konohamaru with a disappointed look that made the child flinch. "Why did I hear from your grandfather that you were experimenting with second level seals, you aren't even close to the first level of sealing, so why did you jump straight into mid-level 2?" asked Naruto.

Konohamaru looked ashamed and embarrassed that he was being reprimanded in front of his now curious classmates and offered no words to his teacher as he had none. "Kono there is a reason that you can't rush into the art of sealing. Now…" Naruto looks over to his other two students "you two aren't exempt from this either as I went to your family and found out what you were up to. Though you two didn't go as far as Kono, you still tried something you were not ready for." Naruto took a breath and looked at all three of his students. They all looked ashamed and embarrassed at being caught doing something and scolded.

Naurto shook his head and threw four tagged kunai in a small square and threw the three kids awful seals into the center of the square and activated them and the barrier tags on the Kunai at the same time. Needless to say, everyone in the yard got a show of one of the kids seals imploding on itself and taking the other two with it. The barrier fell after everything settled. Needless to say all the kids and even the teachers were silent as they were shocked.

"well that is a good visual on why you don't mess with something you don't understand, Moegi that was your seal that imploded on itself, I am very glad you had at least the common sense to not activate that at home. Now who is the instructor in charge of these three?" asked Naruto looking around. One hand rose and Naruto looked at a familiar face. The man had dark hair in a spikey pineapple ponytail and a scar running across his nose. "Ok, I am going to take them to training ground seven for their punishment. They will be back tomorrow." Without waiting for a reply, chains wrapped around the students and the five vanished in a puff of smoke.

-Training ground 7-

The five appeared in a clearing with the three kids on their backs a little disoriented and Mai clapping in excitement still on Naruto's shoulders. Naruto then dispensed his punishment on the three children in the form of forced exercise and training. They each had until noon to evade his clones by any means necessary while his clones were throwing small pebbles at them forcing them to learn how to dodge effectively. By the time noon came around the children were exhausted and had a few bruises. Naruto spent the time entertaining Mai with a children's book he found in his mother's house. In the end Kono and his friends made sure to never do anything that warranted something like this from Naruto ever again. By the time they recovered from being run ragged for the better part of a few hours, they noticed that their teacher was reading a book to a small child sitting in his lap.

"Hey boss, who is that? She looks kind of like you?" asked Kono now sitting in front of Naruto with both Moegi and Udon beside him.

Naruto put the book down and looked up at his students. "this is Mai, she is part of my clan and I found her on my last mission. She is just adorable isn't she. She-" he was interrupted when Mai reached up and grabbed his cheek and pulled down and pointed with her other hand to the book. "Dah…"

The four looked surprised, though none more than Naruto. When he got over his shock he was smiling like a loon and just nodded and began to read to the little girl again, but not before giving his students tasks to work on and said he would test them to see if they were ready to move on to level one sealing. The three began working for a little while when they were interrupted by the arrival of Karin. When she got there she was asked about what she knew of Fuinjutsu and if she was any good at calligraphy. Turns out she knew the basics but her calligraphy was awful. So an annoyed Karin was told to practice her handwriting. Naruto kept Mai entertained and got her to say some more partial words, though she eventually fell asleep, allowing Naruto to turn his focus to his students and Karin. Naruto answered questions and guided the four for a few hours until they were interrupted by Owl.

"Is it just me or does the old man only send you to come get me when something is needed?" asked Naruto looking up at owl. At this Owl shrugged. Naruto chuckled at the anbu's unprofessionalism but understood, as anbu were people with emotions, not drones. "So what does he want now?"

"The council has called for a meeting, the Hokage has asked for you to be there as the representative of the Uzumaki clan, as it doesn't have a clan head yet, and that you are being accused again for some ridiculous things. The meeting starts in about ten minutes in chamber five." Said Owl. The anbu then vanished in a swirl of leaves.

"Well I guess I should get going, continue practicing, the clone I will leave behind will test you to see if you are ready to move on to level one." Naruto said as he got up and tried to hand Mai to Karin, but the little girl didn't want to let go of Naruto. So against his better judgement he made his way to the council chambers with the sleeping little Mai.

-Around twenty minutes later-

Naruto walked into the chamber and didn't really give a fuck that he was late. The council was being inconvenient to him so he was returning the favor. He quietly made his way to the center of the room and stared at the old man. "Sorry I'm late, I was teaching my students Fuinjutsu at training ground seven and decided to walk here so I didn't wake Mai."

Everyone looked at Kakashi who was leaning against the wall behind the Hokage. Those who knew Kakashi could tell he was smiling.

"What? I didn't tell him to dress like me and be late, he did that on his own." Said Kakashi, proud that at least one student was not currently a disappointment.

The old Hokage sighed and motioned for everyone's attention. "well Kakashi hopefully your other students wont follow in your likeness, now, we are here today to discuss three things, first the council would like to question Naruto about some things, second the possible reformation of the almost extinct Uzumaki clan, and third the up coming Chunin exams." At the end of his announcement he looked kind of annoyed as the meeting was about to become a shouting match.

"So what would you people want to know, now there are a few things that I am not going to answer due to them being private. Now who is first."

The headmaster of the academy stood up. "I would like to ask as to why you abducted three academy students without clearing it with staff."

"Well I did notify their teacher that I was going be taking them to punish them for disregarding my instructions."

"Be that as it may, you still should have gotten an answer before you took them. Also what did you do to them?"

"Forcefully taught them how to evade their enemy and how to dodge effectively." Naruto answered nonchalantly.

"They aren't too damaged I hope?"

"Bumps and bruises."

"Very well, I will let this go, but next time do come and find me and inform me so I don't have to call a manhunt for missing children." With that the headmaster sat down.

The next to stand up was a man that looked like he could wrestle a grizzly and win.

"I am aware that you are adept in Fuinjutsu, is there a deal that we can make so that I can start selling better quality seals to my customers?"

"We'll talk after this" the man sat down and the three elders stood up.

The woman spoke first "It has come to our attention that you have other weapons in your possession that are capable of wide scale destruction, how did you come by these weapons and would like for you to hand them over to the village."

"I'm afraid that I am not going to give you the information or my possessions as you will just use them to further your own gain. That and the elemental nations will be thrown out of the fragile balance." Seeing that some of the more troublesome civilians were about start a screaming fit Naruto decided to nip it in the bud so they wouldn't disturb Mai. "And before any of you start to gripe about me not bending over backwards to the council, let me remind you all that I only report to the Hokage, no if ands or buts, so fuck off. Now I believe the old man has some thing to say." When Naruto finished the saw that he was one the receiving end of a few disapproving stares.

"Yes now, due to the strength of the village being a little lackluster right now due to the loss of the Uchiha clan and the attack on the village fourteen years ago, I propose that we accept the Uzumaki clan into our village. All for raise your hand."

At this the entirety of the Ninja side and part of the civilian side put their hands up. The only people that didn't were the elders and a few civilians.

"So it is decided, the remaining Uzumaki will rebuild their clan in Konoha. Now, Naruto, do you accept your role as the acting Uzumaki clan head?"

"I will, though due to Uzumaki traditions I will have to journey to Uzu to attempt the trials. I guess I should leave immediately, though I would like to take team seven and Jiraiya with me, would you approve of that Hokage-sama." Asked Naruto.

"How long do you think you will be gone?"

"I should be back a week or two."

"Granted. But before you leave you should know who is going to be attending the Chunin exams.

"Very well who is attending?

Well here it is, the last chapter I will be able to upload for a while. I will still be writing chapters for both of my stories. I will be out in the middle of nowhere for the better part of a year. But when I am able to I will upload all the chapters.
