Hello from somewhere, so I have hit a wall with my other story as I need a bit more information into Halo lore, but me being out in the middle of nowhere with no internet kind of blows. Anyway I went through my previous chapters and fixed some grammar and spelling errors. So what chapter is this, Six? Yeah I think so, so in this one Naruto is going to go take part of the Uzumaki trials… yeah I'm probably just going to fly by the seat of my pants on this one.

Christ, it's been forever since I have looked at this. A little more than a year, so I have good news and bad news. Good news is that I am starting this fic and the Halo crossover fic again, bad news is that all my work on Knight and Phantom was lost as my hard drive was cleared and used for other things. So just to say fuck it they are both going to be re-written AGAIN! As I was in the process of doing that when I stopped and decided to start a new fic. So all that is lost, but they both needed to be edited as it was shitty writing and even though I am better now, I'm still an amateur writer.

Ch.6 Old Ghosts.

Naruto was enjoying the sound of the sea and the cries of the gulls, though it didn't last as the peaceful sounds of nature were interrupted by the sound of a couple of the passengers throwing up over the side of the ship. apparently Jiraiya, Sakura, Karin, and the emo were sea sick. All four looked horrible and Mai was getting a kick out of it.

"Pinkeh smells funny dah-dah."

Yup Mai could speak somewhat now, though she still had trouble pronouncing words but Naruto was sure that his adorable little girl would soon be able to speak correctly.

"yup, that she does sweety, though it isn't entirely her fault as many people get seasick."

They had been traveling for three days and they had about another day of traveling before they reached the Uzushio mainland, though Naruto had one problem and that was the wall of whirlpools that surrounded the island. Even he didn't want to test the strength of his ship by sailing through those monstrous vortexes. He had an idea but had no clue if it would work, so he did the only thing he could do at the moment. Entertain Mai and keep the ship on course. Naruto looked down from the wheelhouse of the small destroyer and looked at his passengers, Team seven, and Jiraiya all were located by the forward five-inch cannon, and all of them wanted to be on dry land again. Naruto passed off the wheel to a clone and walked down the ladder well towards his passengers with a small grin hidden by his mask. Mai on the other hand was giggling and pointing.

"Now Naruto, you should teach her that it is rude to point." Said Kakashi also getting a kick out of his two troublesome students losing their lunch.

"That's funny coming from the one who is chronically late and reads porn in public." Snarked Naruto.

"Fair enough." And with that said Kakashi went back to his book.

Tired of hearing the retching Naruto slapped some seals on the three-unfortunate Genin, and for a second the seals glowed green. The three suddenly felt better but were still a bit queasy as the seal didn't completely cure them.

"There are showers on the third deck, please go clean yourselves up and don't wander, I will know if you do and it won't be pleasant to you. Now chop-chop, I don't want you stinking up my ship." said Naruto as he pointed to a stairway down below decks.

Naruto waited for a minute for the three to leave and looked at the old toad sage. "Now Jiraiya, you may be wondering why I didn't help you… well you consider this some of your punishment for not being there for me when I needed someone, though I guess I will let you explain yourself." With that Naruto slapped a seal on Jiraiya.

After a second or two Jiraiya sighed and sat down. "Well the reason I wasn't there at first was that I was told you had died with your parents, though after five years I found that to be false after spotting you being chased by a mob. You do remember how you lost the mob in about three minutes after they started to chase you, and that was the last one to chase after you?" Naruto nodded as that was one of the few things he remembered. He was glad he didn't receive the last 'birthday gift' the villagers tried to give him. "Well I ended up beating that mob senseless and accidently killing a few of them, after that I had a few toads watching out for you. After finding out you were alive, I didn't know how to tell you I was supposed to be your godfather, so I watched from the shadows making sure that you had everything you needed to survive and become a ninja. Though I also didn't make myself known as both I and your parents had enemies. If they had gotten word that I had been seen taking care of a child with blond hair and blue eyes, they would have gotten suspicious and would have probably killed or kidnapped you. Even though that was my reasoning, I know it probably won't satisfy you, so I am sorry." Said Jiraiya slightly bowing his head.

"I have a few questions before I make my decision to forgive you or not, now who told you I was dead?" asked Naruto.

"Danzo and the old windbags that advise the old man. Though after I found out you were alive, I disrupted every little scheme they tried to pull on the old man."

"Ok… now why did you look like someone punched you in the gut when the old man talked about my parents being seen as siblings to Tsunade?"

"That is something I would rather explain when Tsunade is around… as it is as much of her secret as it is mine… even if she only knows half of it. Now anything else?"

"What do you plan to do after this?"

"Well I planned to teach you during the third round of the Chunin exams if you made it that far…. But you came back and were promoted to Chunin already… though the invitation to be trained by me is still open… if you don't want me around… I would guess that I would go back to simply making sure that our home was being kept safe and tracking down my wayward teammate before he causes anymore damage." Said the old hermit.

"I will have to think about it more, but for now I think we can work together until I make a decision, well as long as you don't perv too much like you normally do."

"Kid I will say this once, what is a ninja's greatest weapon?"

"…..Deception… so wait… you're telling me being the world's biggest perv is just an act?" asked Naruto slightly in disbelief.

"Eh, I'm still a perv, but no, it's mostly an act to sell the picture of me just being a retired old pervert. It is just a cover so no one is suspicious when a spymaster is visiting every whorehouse and bordello in every nation, you will be surprised what the women in the bordellos hear, and you would be even more surprised at how much high-quality information they know, so I put on a show so no one is the wiser and I get information. The cash from the books and the sexy ladies are just a bonus." Said Jiraiya with a small grin.

"I feel like an idiot, you really are what a true ninja should be."

"Nah… if anyone was a true ninja it was your father. That man could put me to shame in just about anything other than writing and infiltration. I'm just an old man that is somewhat retired… I mean after my teammate is taken care of I will actually retire… until something pops up that I'm needed for." Said Jiraiya.

"Well now that we have that settled why don't we all go down to the chow hall, it is burger and fries night and I bet you both will love it." Said Naruto as he placed Mai on his shoulders and led the two men to the small ship's galley to where they were served with cheese burgers, fries, and ice cream, eventually the Genin found their way down and joined them just as the alcohol was served. Needless to say, it was a small party that went into the night.

-Next morning-

Naruto woke up when he felt a small hand slap his cheek multiple times, it didn't hurt, but it got his attention. He opened his eyes and looked to his right to see Mai sitting on the edge of his bed with a bit of dried chocolate ice cream all over her face and hands. Naruto tried to lift his left hand to grab a napkin from the small nightstand but found that it was weighed down by something, and that something turned out to be someone. Apparently that someone had too much to drink as she smelled heavily of the rum they had the night before. That and she was half dressed, though thankfully he still had all his clothes on. Apparently Karin was a lightweight with her alcohol. Naruto carefully removed his arm from Karin's grasp and swung his legs over the side of the bed and sighed. He looked at Mai and chuckled, such a messy girl she was, she needed a bath though the ship didn't have any bathtubs onboard. So it was time to improvise as all he needed was a pot big enough to hold water and Mai at the same time… the kitchen had pots, many he wouldn't use as his clones really didn't have to cook for many people, so with a somewhat formed plan, Naruto picked up Mai and walked out of the captain's cabin, only to see the xo's cabin door slightly ajar. He poked his head in to see the Uchiha brat wide awake with a slightly fearful look in his eyes, and beside him… well more like wrapped around him was Sakura, well long story short, the air smelled like alcohol and sex, and from the look on Sasuke's face, he didn't want to be there and probably hoped he wasn't a father anytime soon. Quietly, Naruto closed the door and crept down the hallway and down a few decks to the galley to see if he could find a decently sized pot to wash his messy little child in. When he entered the mess hall he saw Jiraiya passed out on one of the tables with an empty bottle of rum in his hand, Kakashi was in the kitchen passed out with his head in the sink…. Looks like everyone had a little too much to drink last night. Naruto grabbed a pot big enough to fit Mai comfortably and quietly crept back to his cabin to use the shower to fill the pot up and so he could use something other than dish soap to clean his kid. Naruto walked back into his cabin to find Karin still passed out. Naruto walked into his personal bathroom and placed the pot on the ground under the shower head, he then rolled up his sleeves to prevent them from becoming a nuisance. Naruto turned on the water to the shower and waited for the water to warm up before he directed the shower head towards the pot. Naruto then started to strip Mai out of her ice-cream covered clothes and sat her in the now half-filled pot. Naruto grabbed a nearby sponge and began to gently scrub Mai, who was happily splashing the water at Naruto.

"Yes, yes, I agree Mai, I do need to clean myself up, but I have to finish with you first." Naruto said as he started lathering some soap all over Mai who was still splashing water everywhere. Eventually Naruto unsealed some clean clothes and a towel for Mai and handed her to a clone to dry off and clothe her, after the clone and Mai were out of the room Naruto dumped the pot of water down the drain, stripped his clothes off and set them by the sink. He stepped into the shower and closed the curtain. Naruto had a few peaceful moments to himself until he heard someone quickly run into the room and started to empty out their stomach into the toilet. He waited till they seemed like they were done before he made himself known.

"Well I hope you feel better, but you honestly shouldn't have drank so much last night, though you did end up in a better position than everyone else."

Karin squeaked and jump up when she heard Naruto speak, though the movement caused her to get nauseous again, leading her to be hunched over the toilet again.

Naruto shook his head, turned the shower off, and reached for the towel on the rack next to the shower.

"Do stay where you are until your body settles, I will start breakfast-" Naruto was cut off from a yell of surprise next door. "Well seems like Sakura woke up and is surprised where she landed for the night…. I hope they used protection, one Uchiha is enough right now, we really don't need to deal with a loud pink haired brat with a bad case of pink eye. Anyway when you are ready come down to eat." Said Naruto as he walked out of the shower with the towel now wrapped around his waist and exited the room not even noticing Karin's face had almost turned the same shade of red that her hair was.

Naruto dressed himself and exited his cabin and stopped at the door that the lovebirds were in and knocked.

"Breakfast is in thirty minutes, do clean yourselves up before you come down." And with that Naruto walked down the hall to the ladder well that led to the mess decks. He saw Jiraiya and Kakashi were both awake and nursing a headache at one of the tables, and he saw a clone entertaining Mai. Naruto entered the kitchen and started to make pancakes, scrambled eggs, and some bacon. It was about thirty minutes before Naruto finished and came back out of the kitchen with a large bowl of eggs, two large plates full of pancakes, and a large plate of bacon. He saw that the other three had come down, though Karin had a light blush on her cheeks and she couldn't look at him without her cheeks getting redder. Now the other two wouldn't look at each other and were blushing very heavily. Naruto saw that Jiraiya had had a clue on what had happened and Naruto shot him a look that said 'drop it for now'. Naruto set the plates and bowl down on the table and reached for an empty plate and scooped up a decently sized portion of eggs, grabbed a few pieces of bacon, and four of the large pancakes and started chowing down. The others stood there for a second and then followed Naruto's lead and grabbed some food. Naruto finished all his food except half of one of the large pancakes that he started to cut up in small bits and tried to feed to Mai, though most of the bits landed anywhere other than the little child's mouth.

Naruto paused for a second and made a clone to continue to feed Mai as he stood up and walked toward the stairwell that led to the bridge. When he got there, he looked out of one of the small portholes to see a mass of vortexes blocking the ship's path to the island beyond, Naruto signaled the helmsman to stop the engines. He then walked outside and leaped off the ship and ran to the edge of the largest whirlpool which was about a mile in diameter and squatted down ten feet from the edge. He cut his hand, put it in the water, and watched as the blood was sucked up by the whirlpool, a minute later the whirlpool seemed to be slowing down and fifteen minutes later the whirlpool had ceased to exist. Though before it completely died down, the whirlpool spat out a ship, one that Naruto only had seen in one of the books from his battlecruiser. An aircraft carrier, though it wasn't one of the large ones, but a small escort that only held around twenty aircraft to the main battle carrier's ninety. Though it would seem that this ship would never be operatable ever again. Naruto created a clone and then dispersed it, sending the information to his clones on the ship that the way was clear. Instead of returning to his ship, Naruto walked toward the listing 'baby flat top' and created around three hundred clones to search the ship and gather anything salvageable, he then went on his way to locate the captain's cabin. Naruto found that the watertight doors leading to the captain's cabin had miraculously done their job and kept the compartment sealed, though that also kept the gasses from the captain's decomposed body inside and the smell was quite unpleasant. Naruto made a few more clones to clear out the cabin, while he climbed up to the bridge. The bridge had not been as lucky as the captain's cabin as it had many layers of sea growth on everything but the ships bell. The name on the bell was unreadable as the bell, while not covered in sea growth, was covered in rust and grime.

If the bridge was any indication of how the rest of the ship looked there really couldn't be much worth salvaging, but Naruto held up hope as he really needed parts for some of his vehicles. It had been around thirty minutes and Naruto finally felt the ship slowly listing starboard. Deciding that it was time to leave Naruto made a clone and popped it notifying the rest of the clones to vacate the ruined ship.

Naruto stepped off the ship and walked towards the destroyer, which had steamed past the carrier and was almost at the edge of where the whirlpool used to be. Naruto received memories from most of his clones that pretty much proved him correct as they didn't find anything, but three had found that three storage rooms had stayed intact and the clones had sealed up everything. Naruto hoped that whatever his clones found was useful, though he would have to sort it out later after he had completed the trials.

-An hour later-

After the group had passed the whirlpool, the destroyer entered a large river that seemed to lead to the center of the island. Along the way they passed crumbling watchtowers, a few decaying farming settlements, and what looked to be a fishing and mining settlement. All were long abandoned and looked to have been pillaged. As they passed Naruto sent out numerous clones to scavenge and bury the remains of the dead. Strangely Naruto felt something calling to him, and the closer he got to the center of the island the stronger the sensation was.

It took the destroyer three hours to travel upriver but eventually they made it to the old broken outer walls of the Hidden Whirlpool Village. Naruto signaled for the ship to stop just before the destroyed docks that were too small for his ship.

Naruto left some clones to look after the ship he and his companions departed the destroyer though the Genin had to be carried from the ship as they couldn't water walk yet. When they reached the shoreline they saw that there were many ships that didn't belong to the Uzumaki, though they were destroyed to the point that they were not sea worthy. From what Naruto could tell they belonged to Kiri, Iwa, and Kumo. The group continued up an overgrown path up to where the gates should have been but were no longer there.

Naruto could hear the calling even stronger now and it was annoying him. Before they could step into the village Naruto stopped them. "I'm giving this warning out now. There is most likely traps set up here, so I advise you all stay close as I assume they will not be set off by someone with Uzumaki blood, but I could be wrong so be careful. If anything happens meet up at the hut that we saw down by the docks." Said Naruto as he stepped into the village only to activate a large seal barrier and a multitude of glowing seals. The barrier stopped anyone else in the group to enter the village and they watched on in horror as Naruto vanished in a flash of white.

-Unknown cave-

When Naruto was dropped on his ass in the cave, he immediately was berating himself for not noticing the seals that brought him to the cave he was currently in. Naruto unsealed a lantern from one of the seals on his right arm and lit it. With the illumination of the cave Naruto could see many inactive seals covering the walls and ceiling. Cautiously Naruto slowly walked through the caves and the deeper he went the more the seals surrounded him became more intricate to the point Naruto had no clue as to what the seals were made to do. Eventually Naruto entered a large cavern that had an opening at the top allowing some light to shine down to the center of the cavern. In the center stood a large stone statue of a man that had the Uzumaki crest carved on the chest. Naruto noticed that there were also seals carved into the statue, and also felt something drawing him towards the statue. To Naruto's surprise the statue started to shimmer, and something stepped out of the center of the statue and landed at the base of it.

From what Naruto could tell this was a chakra construct and to be on the safe side he manifested a few chains around him.

"Be at rest young Uzumaki, I will do you no harm." Said the construct.

"Forgive me for being skeptical but I will keep my chains where they are." Said Naruto staring at the construct as it was now fully formed. Naruto recognized the construct in front of him now as the last Clan Head of the Uzumaki. Rai Uzumaki, his mother's older brother.

"Very well, I assume you have questions for me then?"

"Yes, why did I get sent here, and why are you here?" Asked Naruto.

"Ah yes, the village seals sent you here to be tested since there hasn't been a Clan Head for… well let us say for far too long, and I am here to test you as it is the duty of the last Clan Head to test a possible candidate. Though if the clan were still whole, the tests would be very different and more strenuous than the tests you will be given. Due to the lack of…. well clan members I test whoever I can, which you are the first in almost thirty years." Said Rai.

"What do the tests entail, and what is expected of the Clan Head now?"

"You will be put through three tests, normally there are nine, but those can only be given by living proctors. The first the test of endurance, as an Uzumaki you are expected to last days without running out of chakra, though due to how inefficient it is to make you fight days on end, this test will only take thirty seconds. The second test is one of blood, the Clan is known as seal masters of great renown, but we are also known for a few blood line traits, so the head of the clan is expected to have at the very least one blood line trait other than our longevity. Most have regeneration, some have negative emotion sensing, a few have the heal bite ability, some have had a powerful sensory ability, very few have the Uzumaki Adamantium sealing chains. The third and final test I will be giving you will be one of Heart, I cannot explain that test to you. If you pass my tests, I will tell you what is expected of you. Now are you ready to start?"

"Yes."

"Very well, stand in the center of the blue seal matrix." Said Rai as he motioned to where the seal was.

Naruto stepped into the center of the seal and sent a confused look over to Rai.

"Not very patient are you young one, very well so begins the first test. Brace yourself young one, this will not be pleasant." Said Rai as the seal glowed white.

Naruto was alarmed as he felt a massive amount of his chakra being drained at an excessive rate. Thirty seconds later he fell to his knees as the seal glowed a bright green. Naruto couldn't remember the last time he felt this drained, he tried to stand but he couldn't keep his feet under him. The end result was him falling flat on his back.

"Congrats young man, you passed the first test. That test takes it out of everyone that takes it. I will give you a few minutes before the second test."

"W-What would have happened if I didn't have enough chakra?" said Naruto between deep breaths.

"The seal would have shut down before you ran out and you would have failed."

"Oh goody for me."

"Well, it seems you are ready for the second test if you have enough energy to talk like that. Go over to the wall that has chains carved into them and spread some of your blood on them. They will tell us what you have, even though I already know you have the chains, we'll see if you have anything else."

Naruto slowly got up and made his way over to the wall. When he got closer he saw there were other carvings connected by the chains. There was one carving that looked like an eye, another looked like a heart, another an hourglass, another looked like the yin yang symbol, another a staff with twin snakes intertwining, and the last was a strange one that looked like a crystal.

Naruto cut his hand and spread it across one of the carved chains. The chains lit up in a golden light along with the heart and hourglass. The one that surprised him was the yin yang lit up white.

"Impressive. You have four of our bloodline traits, the chains, longevity, regeneration, and negative emotion sensing. Though it seems like you haven't unlocked negative emotion sensing yet….. oh well all in due time"

The two were interrupted by a cracking sound coming from the wall of chains and to their surprise a single chain was extending out from the others towards where a new carving was formed. To Naruto the carving looked like a tree.

"Well that is a surprise, it seems like you have another bloodline trait that hasn't been documented yet, though like negative emotion sensing it hasn't been unlocked. Now for the test that is worth all the marbles, the test of heart. Your instructions are as follows, go to the statue in the center of the cavern, stand in front of the statue and you will be elevated to where the heart would be. There you will find a hole for you insert your arm. You are to place your hand on the statue's heart. There we will find out if you are worthy."

"It's not going to take my arm off is it?" asked Naruto.

"No." said Rai with a dry look on his face.

Naruto shrugged and walked towards the statue until he stood at the base of it. He was almost thrown off balance as the stone floor beneath him started to slowly move upwards towards the statues' chest. When the floor stopped moving Naruto could see a hole Rai had mentioned and stuck his hand into it. He immediately felt like his head was on fire and try as he might he couldn't remove his hand from the hole. Eventually the pain caused him to fall unconscious, though the last thing he felt besides his pain in his head was a quick burning sensation on his hand.

-Two hours later-

It had been some time since the last test had been finished and Naruto was just now regaining consciousness. The fact that his head felt like a gorilla had been using his head as a set of bongos.

"Congratulations, you survived, and you passed the tests."

"Why do I feel like my head is being compressed.?"

"That feeling will subside, it was caused by the statue looking into your memories and judging what kind of person you are. If it deems you worthy you gain the ring of the head of the clan. If you fail that test you fail the trials themselves, as I said this one was for all the marbles. Believe it or not this test is rarely passed, there have only been six people including yourself who have passed." Said Rai standing over Naruto.

Naruto stared at his right index finger to see a gold ring with ruby red carvings covering it. "What is the purpose of the ring?"

"Other than to symbolize your status, it is a key and map to all of the hidden vaults around the island. Currently there are still nine out of ten vaults still sealed."

"Ok what are in these vaults?"

"Well each vault holds different items, vault one holds our wealth, vault two houses our elemental knowledge, vault three holds our weapons, the fourth vault holds our sealing scrolls, the fifth holds our sealing knowledge and all our advancements in sealing, the sixth holds nothing as it was the one raided in the attack though it held our medical scrolls, the seventh holds the history of the Uzumaki, the eighth holds our summoning contracts of which there are five, the ninth holds all our forbidden scrolls and a few other items that we found over the years, the tenth and final vault holds our stasis seal which holds nine of our clansmen in stasis."

"Wait….. what?!"
