The Promise
Welcome to a little project of mine that I started to see how many people would be interested in a Naruto cross over with halo. Everything that will happen will take place a few years before the fall of Reach and Naruto will join the fight against the covenant after the fourth ninja war. I know, in canon The Promise of Dawn was lost directly after reach fell but this is a fanfic, not canon. Now here it goes.
-Chapter 1. Greetings and Farewells.
It had been eleven years since the nine tailed fox attacked Konoha and this was around the twentieth time Naruto had been chased yet again by a mob of drunken angry villagers, and this time he was chased out of the village into a rather large forest that was surrounded by a fence. Though after he passed through a gap in the fence the mob stopped chasing him and he has been wandering the forest for hours, cold, injured, and hungry. He was about to huddle up in a hollow tree when a flash of light caught his attention. He wandered closer and closer to the source of the light only to find out that the flashing light was at the bottom of a very wide crevasse. Seeing as he couldn't go back to the village until the festival was over, Naruto decided to slowly climb down into the crevasse and see what the light was. He had almost made it to the bottom when he lost his grip and fell. Though luckily there was an incline not too far down so he tumbled the rest of the way down before he was stopped by something metal. He looked around to see that he landed on a large metal structure that looked like a strange long rectangular box with two smaller rectangle-ish things on the end of it. He had tumbled into one of the structures attached to the main structure. He also saw writing on the side of the structure.
UNSC PROMISE OF DAWN
Naruto didn't know what to make of it but he was startled by what looked like a door opening and a small light trail lighting up on the deck to the door. Naruto followed the path of lights into the door and into a dark corridor. Naruto passed many things that he couldn't explain, many of those things looked broken. Eventually after following the lights for what seemed like an hour, he was led to a wall and stood there confused until the wall opened, yet it was a dead end, again.
-Young one step into the lift and I will explain everything that you have seen.-
Naruto jumped at the sound of a feminine voice that held compassion and yet held an authoritative tone. So he complied and stepped into the strange contraption. The door closed and he felt like the room was moving upwards at a rather quickly. When the room stopped moving the door opened and the floor lit up and led him into a room that had many things that he had never seen before but in the center of the room was a pedestal with a blue ball hovering over it. When he got close enough to the pedestal the ball morphed into what looked like a middle-aged woman with dark hair and in a uniform.
-Greetings young one, my name is Gabriela, a smart AI in the service of the UNSC. Tell me, what is your name? -
-Eight years later, three weeks after the end of the fourth ninja war-
It had been eight years since he had found the Promise and began to learn about the history of the people of Earth. Gabriela had also taught him about the weapons, vehicles and systems on the ship, she also taught him how to turn on and operate the drones that could repair the ship so they could leave the planet if he wanted to do so. Contrary to popular belief, Naruto wasn't an idiot, Gabriela sought to correct the boy about the many things that he was taught incorrectly. First she taught him about boxing and how to grapple, as his brawler style of fighting would get him killed on his first mission. The next thing she taught him was discipline as he was too rowdy and disrespectful, she was able to curve it to an acceptable degree but she wasn't able to snuff it out. Third she taught him the basics of combat every marine and ODST went through, she was positive he could give a Spartan a run for their money in about every aspect except space warfare and pure strength and reflex speed. Finally she taught him how to speak English as he spoke a strange dialect of Japanese. Naruto also took a set of ODST armor and improved it. He added in a layer of chakra conductive metal to the outside, added in an interface and a spot to insert a crystal data chip so he could take her with him, and began to work on a prototype shield for the armor out of some silver crystals he found on one of his missions. He also worked on and completed and implemented a way to prolong an AI's life from seven years to around seventy-five. She didn't know how he did it but she didn't push the matter as she was appreciative of him. He also was working on how to build a shielding system for the ship but he hit a snag, he hadn't found a successful way project the shield around the ship acceptably yet. The shield would surround the ship but it broke too easily. He was close but he hasn't finished it yet.
But now he didn't have very much time to complete much at all as after the war was just won, the covenant arrived with three SDV- Heavy Corvettes and one CCS-Battlecruiser coming out of slip space and started to kill everyone. Naruto was able to save only three people from the slaughter, as he and everyone else were exhausted from the war, and no one, other than Naruto, knew of the weaponry that the covenant had at their disposal. In the end he was able to make it back to the hidden ship with Sakura, Hinata, and a girl named Karin. All three were in terrible condition, Sakura was missing her left arm from the shoulder down, Hinata was shot in the abdomen by what Gabriela would call a needle rifle as the girl had a pink crystal sticking out of her, and Karin had massive burns up and down her legs. He had stopped Sakura and Hinata from bleeding out, and put all three of them into cryo pods until he could get them medical attention.
In the genocide every major and minor village were wiped out in a number of days, and after a few weeks the covenant had wiped out everyone. Now Gabriela was waiting for Naruto to come back form his mission. He had been gathering as many of the silver crystals as he could so he could complete his experiments. The crystals by themselves were nothing special, but when you energize them, they produce an energy field. He had been gathering chakra metal, scrolls on sealing, chakra theory, medical scrolls, and he had also found Kakashi on his death bed. He had put Kakashi into a cyro pod with the idea of seeing if they have him live on as a Smart AI. (All smart AIs are created from scanning a human brain.) Naruto knew that the AI would have none of Kakashi's memories, but having a part of his former teacher with him was enough for him. Naruto during his scavenging missions had hunted down many of the covenant forces to where they were calling him 'The Devil' as he killed many mercilessly and left no one to tell the tale. Narutos' favored weapons were a pair of M6C SOCOM Pistols (Silenced armor piercing pistols) and a M7S SMG or as it was commonly known the silenced submachine gun.
Gabriela was brought out of her musing when Naruto jumped into the navigator's chair and frantically started to power the ship on.
"Gabby, I hope this ship can fly or both of us aren't going to be around much longer." Naruto said as he activated the ships thrusters to lift the still battered ship out of the crevasse. Gabriela frowned at the nickname and sighed or the AI equivalent to a sigh. She had detected one of the corvettes heading this way, it seemed that today was the day that she would be able to leave the planet.
-I see you brought some friends back with you, and yes the ship will function long enough to get us to Reach, but I don't recommend fighting a head on battle as the ship will still lose pressure on a few decks that are sealed. What would you like for me to do?-
"Do we have any Archer missiles still functional?"
-Yes we have about thirty four still functional missiles. Would you like me to launch them at the corvette?-
"Yes and if any of those ships come in front of us, use the MAC. I still need to make a few adjustments to the shield generator so our shield isn't going to be totally useless." With that Naruto hopped out of the chair and sprinted to the shield generator that was located at the center of the ship. During that time the Promise lifted itself out of the crevasse and fired fifteen of its' missiles at the approaching corvette and caused the ship to lose power and crash onto the ruins of Konoha. (Now I know someone will say something along the lines of 'oh what about the shields?' well if you do your research, the corvettes don't have any protective shields. Though if I am wrong I'll come back and fix it.) When the Promise was clear, it shot off into the upper atmosphere where the battlecruiser was blocking its path. The battlecruiser fired a full salvo of its plasma cannons at the promise when it came into range.
-Naruto you better hurry or we will be shot down.-
"I'm finished here, turn on the shields and let's see how we fare."
-Very well, hopefully they work.-
If one were to look closely they would see a very faint silver glow around the ship. And sure enough the shields held but from where Naruto was at he could safely say that if they were hit with another salvo the shields would fail and they would be toast.
"Gabby fry that fucker and let's get out of here."
The last thing that the shipmaster on the battlecruiser would see was the human ship firing a supercharged MAC round that split his ship in half.
With the object blocking them out of the way Gabriela quickly made the calculations to Reach and made the jump to slip space.
-Well Naruto I have good news and bad news. What would you like to hear about first?-
"Give me the bad news first."
-Well a good portion of the aft of the ship has caught fire, but that won't be a problem, the MAC guns' system is fried, and the slip space drive is going to cease to function.-
"Well fuck, what's the good news?"
-Well the drones can take care of the fire, we won't need the MAC anytime soon, and we will make it to reach in about a week before the slip space drive breaks.-
"Well I guess we will find out huh. Well I'm going back to try to make the shield stronger and more efficient. It used too much energy to charge them, and the crystals shattered. I have enough to replace them but I will need to make a buffer to where the backlash of the shields failing won't destroy the crystals." Said Naruto as he deactivated the shield generator and began removing the now ruined crystals.
-A week later-
Naruto was brought out of his work when Gabriela appeared on the pedestal next to his workbench, he had been working on his modified ODST armor to calibrate the now fully functional shielding system. The armor itself was a midnight black with the visor being a blood red. "Yes Gabby, what is it?"
-We are about fifteen minutes from exiting slip space. When we do the ship will most likely be dead in the water, so to speak, as the engines will shut down when the slip space drive dies. So be ready for that. Also you may want to come to the bridge.- with that she vacated the area and Naruto began to put on his armor. Fifteen minutes later Naruto was standing on the bridge as the ship shot out of slip space and sat dead in the water in front of an armada of many different UNSC ships. And again his ship was on fire.
-Hold on, we are being hailed, I'll put it through on the emergency channel, as it's the only one that works at the moment.-
-Unknown ship this is Vice Admiral Stanforth of the UNSC Leviathan, identify yourself or be fired upon-
Well can this day get any better.
