Epilogue
Many years later, Azura Noceda-Blight was pacing in her room late at night. She was trying to figure out what to say. Her first Grom was coming up, and she wanted to figure out the right way to ask out her crush. Her mother Amity was concerned when she saw her light was still on, and came up to check on her. She asked her, "Azura, why are you still up? It's almost midnight. Is something wrong?"
"It's nothing, Mom.", she sheepishly replied, blushing as she spoke.
Amity smiled and asked, "You're trying to figure out how to ask someone to Grom, aren't you?"
Azura shyly nodded her head and asked, "How did you know?"
Amity put a hand on her daughter's shoulder and reassured her, "I was in this very position years ago when I was your age, Zury. I'd know that blush anywhere." She sat down next to her on the bed. "So...who is it? Is is that Petria girl you keep talking about?"
Azura nodded. Amity laughed warmly and said, "I had a feeling. Now I can tell you're nervous, so just remember it doesn't have to be perfect. So don't stress about it too much. Just be yourself. And, if you're scared to actually ask the question, try asking her with a note."
She looked at her mom with skepticism. She asked, "Will that work?"
Amity smiled and said, "I mean, I tried it my first Grom. Your mamà and I have been together ever since."
Azura looked at her mother with wonder in her eyes. Amity place her hand on her cheek and said, "Hey, why don't you sleep on it? You'll need all the rest you can get if you're gonna ask someone out for the first time tomorrow." Her daughter hugged her, and said, "Yeah...that sounds good. I love you, Mom."
"I love you too, Zury."
Amity tucked her into bed, kissed her on the forehead, turned out the light, and went to her own bedroom. Already asleep was Luz, her beloved wife of 16 years. She looked at the picture frame on the wall. Inside was the crumpled note she gave to her all those years ago. She thought back to that day, and how she was ready to burn it. She was so glad she hesitated. She kissed her on the cheek and joined her under the covers. Luz stirred a little, and said "I love you, Amity." She looked back at her and said, "I love you too, Luz."
The next morning, Azura was about to leave for school. Then she showed her parents a note she had written a few minutes ago, asking what they thought. They looked and saw nine simple words: "Petria: Will you go to Grom with me? Azura." Amity looked at the note, then at Luz. She told her, "It's perfect. I'm sure she'll love it."
Right when she was about to leave, she turned around and asked, "What if she doesn't feel the same way?"
Luz replied, "Don't worry about that, Azura. You should be proud of yourself either way. You know your mom and I are."
After their daughter left with her younger sister Willow, Luz looked at Amity and said, "Look at our little girl. Asking people out to Grom. They really do grow up so fast."
Amity looked back at Luz and said, "Yeah." She paused and asked, "Remember when I asked you to Grom the first time?"
Luz laughed and said, "Of course I do!"
Amity laughed and said, "Oh, Titan, that was a disaster!"
"Agreed. I wouldn't change a thing, though. It was the best disaster to happen to me, mi hermosa batata."
Amity leaned her head on her shoulder. "There you go, Luz. Cheesy as always!"
Luz blushed. "What?! I mean it."
Amity blushed. "I know. And I agree. All the same, though, I do hope things go a little smoother for her. I'm not worried, though. If she's anything like you, I'm sure she's got a way of sneaking into peoples hearts." She kissed her wife on the cheek.
Luz smiled and held her hand.
Amity smiled as she thought back to that day. "Wow, I was so nervous that day. I'm not sure how I managed to work up the nerve to give you that note. I'm glad I did, though. Can you imagine what would've happened if I wasn't even bold enough to give you that note? Would we have even have gotten together?"
Luz though about it for a moment. "I mean probably. It would've taken a lot longer for me to catch on, but I'm sure things would've worked out in the end."
Amity asked her, "Really? What makes you say that?"
Luz leaned in and replied, "I dunno. But this feels right. Almost destined to happen."
They both smiled for a moment. Amity then looked at Luz and said, "I love you, Luz. So much."
Luz replied, " I love you too, Amity." They kissed. They then left to go tell the happy news to her godparents Eda and Raine.
