Blood, sweet, red, and pure was now running down my hands, assaulting my nostrils and making me go mad while I removed the last piece of glass from her head. Most humans would be able to deal with this situation, but I wasn't human, and my true nature was getting the best of me. Along with the monster who was egging me on, encouraging me to drink from my love.
I swallowed the venom and made the mistake of taking a deep breath.
That one little blunder had my resolve crumbling, like a cookie in the hands of a toddler. While my world came tumbling down like a ton of bricks that was knocked over by a wrecking ball.
One minute, Bella laid in my arms, the next my lips were pressed up to her pulse point of her neck. My lips pulled back, exposing my teeth. There was no thought process for what happened next.
My teeth sunk, unsympathetically, in her carotid, piercing her thin, velvet skin. It was the equivalent to a water balloon breaking so easily. A waterfall of her unique, sweet blood filled my mouth. It was delicious, making me feel blessed. It was forbidden, which had a very small part of me feeling damned as I swallowed.
Nevertheless, I greedily drink.
Like a wine enthusiast, I attempted to savor the flavor knowing, I'd never tasted anything so pure and sweet again. But like an alcoholic, I needed more of what I craved. I slurped, drank and moaned with delight. The monster in my head was having a ball.
Her blood was heaven on Earth. It coated my tongue, washed down my throat, chasing the flames away. This beautiful masterpiece was definitely like a drug to me. I needed more. I needed it all. The only unfortunate case about this scenario was that the liquid that seemed to be made just for me, was in the veins of my soul mate. My wife, whom I love and wouldn't be able to exist without.
"Edward!" Bella gasped, so low and light. "Stop." Her hands gripped my head trying to push me away with no avail.
I had no time to process that she awoke from her unconsciousness, if only for a moment to beg for her life from me, her husband. Who was supposed to love, cherish and protect her. Not feed from her.
Right then would have been the perfect time for me to let go, to release the grip that my teeth had in her flesh. As would have been to bite her neck once more, to make sure enough of my venom was released into her veins, going to her heart. Which would have begun her transformation. Then I would have removed the scarf from my neck, creating a makeshift tourniquet, holding her while she made the change from mortal to immortal.
That would have been the best plan in this fortunate situation. Though, none of that happened because I was too selfish. I continued to gulp down her delicious red blood.
Bella became quiet once more, her arms went limp, no longer making an effort to push me away. She blacked out, I realized then.
I still fed from her all the while the monster rejoiced and I began to smell fire, and gasoline. I also started to hear the unmistakable sound of flames.
While fire and gasoline filled my nostrils I continued to drink some more. It took a minute or two before I realized that the smell, which tickled my nose, was not normal scents of the forests. They were coming from my car.
Quickly my teeth released Bella's flesh. I'm more than grateful that I had some mind to do so. Especially when I saw flames on the right side of the car and knew that was a bad sign. My survival instincts were going a mile a minute then. Every fiber in my body was telling me to pick up Bella and run into the forest with her.
Which is exactly what I did after I tied my scarf around her neck, to keep her from bleeding out. Luckily, I didn't drink her dry like the monster had been encouraging.
I bolted out of the car with Bella in my arms. She never moved while I held her close, running at full speed. My feet left no footprints behind as I ran deeper into the forest on snow covered ground.
I ran three miles more until I came across a log. Gently, I placed my beloved on it just like a doctor might place an injured patient on a gurney. My medical training kicked in and I began to examine her.
The wound on her head was no longer bleeding, nor was the gash on her neck. Her heartbeat and pulse were steady, yet faint. All the color was drained from her skin. No longer did she have a rosy pigment to her face, for it was gray. Seeing that made me realize how close I had been to draining her, to almost killing her.
"Baby, please don't leave me." I wrapped my arms around her as I dry sobbed.
My knees pressed into the snow; my arms wrapped around her shoulders with my head next to hers. I cried tearless sobs, begging her with every breath I took, to please don't leave me.
All the love and the chaos that she and I shared, along with any tangible argument we had. All of the sad, goofy moments we shared as well as the intimate ones, filled my mind. Making me realize just how much I would miss her if she were to die because of my foolish mistake.
"You can't leave me." I cried with so much emotion that would have had Jasper falling to his knees, if he were here. "Bella, please don't leave me. I'm so sorry." I kissed her face that was wet and sticky from her blood.
When we had been in the car, during my feeding frenzy, my only concern was about my needs, wants, and about getting full. I couldn't think coherently about what life was like before that moment. It also didn't help that the monster was cheering me on, but he was silent now and so was she. She hadn't moved and opened her eyes, hadn't uttered a word. Yes, she was breathing but still, I was fearing the worst.
Would she live or die? I really didn't know. All I could do was hold her and tearlessly cry.

Since I already have the rest of this story written down in a notebook, it wouldn't take long to update, and have the story complete. That should be tomorrow morning.
Please leave a pleasant review.
