This is for Scoffie05. I hope everyone enjoys it!
Stephanie stared out the kitchen window aimlessly as she dried a dish. It had been three weeks since her father's heart attack. Sometimes it still didn't feel right that it had happened but then the fact that she had to go and help run the company reminded her that it was real.
"Steph you've been drying that dish for at least five minutes now" Linda interrupted her thoughts.
"I was just lost in thought" Stephanie replied shaking her head and opening the cabinet to put the plate away.
"How are you doing?"
"The best I can. I had no idea all it took to run the company to be honest. I understand all the stress dad was under now."
"Yeah it can be stressful" Linda nodded taking a drink of coffee out of the cup in front of her on the kitchen table. Stephanie nodded her head too in response not knowing what else to say. Things were awkward with Linda still and she was still upset with her over everything. But since her father's heart attack she had been trying because it taught her life was short and, in the end, she did love her family. She was trying to forgive but it was hard to do especially since it didn't look like Linda was going to accept Paul anytime soon and Paul was a big part of her life.
"How is Aiden?" Linda asked after a few minutes of awkward silence.
"Good. He misses you" Stephanie answered honestly. He had been asking to come to stay but with everything Linda had going on she thought it was best to wait.
"I miss him too."
"So do I" Stephanie looked to the kitchen doorway to see her father.
"Vince! What are you doing?" Linda asked getting out of her chair to go over to him.
"I wanted some water" Vince replied gruffly shrugging Linda off to go to the refrigerator.
"You're not supposed to be up."
"Says who? I'm allowed to walk around Linda."
"I know that but I think it's better if you take it easy for a while longer. You just had surgery."
"Three weeks ago. I'll be fine" Vince replied grabbing a water from the refrigerator and going to sit at the kitchen table.
"You know I worry especially after coming very close to losing you."
"Sweetheart we can't live our life in fear. Whatever is going to happen will happen. We have to live for the moment and make the most of it."
"Maybe I should go and let you two talk" Stephanie said about to grab her purse but Vince stopped her.
"I'd like to see Aiden. I haven't seen him in three weeks."
"Dad I don't want to put stress on you right now. Aiden can be a handful sometimes and we're trying to prevent stress. That's the whole reason Shane and I are taking turns help run the company right now."
"I can handle Aiden Steph" Vince replied and looked over to Linda "tell her we can handle Aiden."
"Your father is right. We miss our grandchild."
"If I bring him you do realize you're going to have to deal with Paul, right? He'll be the one to get Aiden back from you because I have to fly out to Vegas for tonight's show. Unless you want to wait a couple of days when I get back from the road to get him."
"We can keep him until you're back" Linda instantly replied. Stephanie scoffed trying to hold back anything that would start an argument.
"Okay. I'll bring him before I have to fly out" Stephanie replied and grabbed her purse. "I have to get going. I want to spend some time with Paul and Aiden before I have to leave tonight."
"We will see you later then" Vince replied his tone telling her he clearly didn't approve. She didn't care if he approved or not. She was helping him after everything that had happened so he could at least accept that Paul was a part of her life and it was going to stay that way. Even if Vince wouldn't give him his job back.
Honestly when Shane asked her to switch out with him every few weeks and help run the company she didn't want to. Paul had lost his job and Vince wouldn't let him come back so she didn't want any part of it either. But Shane had pleaded because of Marissa being pregnant and wanting to be home with her as much as he could. Paul encouraged her to since neither one of them had an income at the moment. Only then had she accepted but part of her still hated going to work there since it was really more of Paul's dream of working for the company.
"I'll see you in a little while then" Stephanie agreed and walked out to her car. She couldn't wait to get home to Paul and Aiden and spend some time with them before she had to bring Aiden to her parents. Then after that she would be gone for a couple of days and it would be Shane's turn. She was really looking forward to being home more.
Paul flipped through the television channels trying to find something to watch since Aiden had fallen asleep on him as they waited for Stephanie to get home. It wasn't long before he heard the front door opening and the sound of her footsteps heading towards him. He left the television on the comedy channel and tossed the remote to the side as she came into view.
"Hey" Paul greeted her with a smile. It had felt like it hadn't seen her in forever when in reality it had only been four days.
"Hey" Stephanie replied with a smile of her own. "Where is Aiden?"
"He fell asleep a couple of hours ago while we waited for you to get home" Paul replied as she came to sit beside of him on the couch.
"It's so early in the day for him to take a nap."
"He didn't sleep very well last night because he was so excited to see you today" Paul replied with a shrug as she ran her hand through his har. He closed his eyes for a moment just enjoying her touch.
"Now I feel bad I took so long at mom and dad's but I updated dad on how things are going and I wanted to make sure they were doing okay."
"It's fine baby. You'll still have some time to spend with him. I'm sure he'll probably be awake soon or if you want, we could go wake him up" Paul said grabbing her hand after making it to the end of his hair. He brought it to his lips and gently kissed the inside of her wrist. "I've missed you."
"I missed you too" Stephanie replied leaning over and giving him a kiss. He pushed her hair behind her ear and held her face to his as he deepened the kiss. He had missed this, getting to touch her, kiss her and hold her whenever he wanted. Before they were on the road together so they were pretty much near each other always and then after being fired by her dad they were always together. Now, she was back on the road without him for long periods of time while he took care of Aiden.
He liked being home and taking care of Aiden but he missed Steph at the same time and being on the road too. WCW hadn't been back in contact with him so far so he didn't think that was going to happen. Right now, he wanted to be here for Aiden and Steph anyway since Vince's heart attack so he was thinking it was maybe for the best for now.
"Mom and dad want to keep Aiden for a couple of days" Stephanie said when their kiss ended.
"What did you say?" Paul asked kind of dreading the answer. It was selfish but he really wanted Aiden to stay with him. He really had no idea what to do with himself without Aiden or Stephanie.
"I said they could because dad really misses him."
"So I guess it's just me this weekend then" Paul laughed lightly to hide the disappointment but he knew it was a good thing for Aiden. He had missed them and was talking about them a lot.
"Well I was thinking on my way home that you could fly out with me since they want to keep him for a couple of days" Stephanie said taking his hand in hers and lacing their fingers together.
"Are you sure I'm allowed to even be near the building without it getting back to your dad and causing problems?"
"Do you not want to?" Stephanie asked looking hurt at the idea of him not wanting to go with her.
"That's not it at all. I'm worried about causing Vince more heart problems and how it will affect you baby. I want to be wherever you are" Paul replied cupping her cheek and leaning forward and slowly kissed her.
"I'm worried about causing any stress on him too it's one reason I said they could keep Aiden. But it's not fair to live in fear that if I go against him that something will happen. I'll just mention you are going to be with me for the next couple of days so if he hears something it won't send him into an angry fit."
"He's still going to get mad."
"But not as mad as if I tell him myself. They are going to have to understand you're going to continue to be a part of mine and Aiden's lives. That means you'll be where we are."
"It's going to take them time. Maybe even time won't be enough but I'll be here until you don't want me anymore."
"That will never happen" Stephanie shook her head and he smiled before kissing her once again.
"God, I love you" Paul whispered in between their kisses.
"I love you too"
The kissing ended in time enough for Paul to hear rustling from Aiden's room and then the pitter patter of his feet as he wandered into the living room.
"Mommy you're home!" Aiden squealed and ran into her arms.
"I am for a little while" Stephanie replied hugging him.
"You have to leave again?" Aiden asked sadly sticking his bottom lip out.
"I'm sorry baby" Stephanie said hugging him again. "But since I have to leave again tonight you get to stay with grandma and grandpa. How does that sound? I know you've missed them."
"But I want to stay with you."
"Listen buddy. Mommy is only going to be gone for a couple more days and then we she gets home we'll all go to Chuck E Cheese? Then what time mommy has left we'll all do whatever you want to do to spend time together?" Paul asked but the look on Aiden's face told him that he didn't care for that idea either. Aiden had been missing Stephanie a lot more and it was probably because she was gone a lot more now then when she was just appearing on television.
"Okay" Aiden replied even though he didn't want Steph to leave again. Paul smiled at him and tousled his hair as Stephanie mouthed thank you.
"Well what do you want to do until you go to your grandparent's?" Paul asked as Aiden cheered up slightly.
"Let's watch Toy Story!"
"Alright" Stephanie chuckled getting up from the couch to put it in for him to watch.
Once the movie was in, she sat down beside of Paul and Aiden squeezed in between them. Paul looked over at her and smiled and she shook her head and laughed at Aiden. Since they couldn't cuddle at least through watching the movie he stretched his arm back behind her instead and let his fingers rest on her shoulder. Through out the movie he couldn't help but watch the two most important people to him now. He couldn't believe this wasn't how it always had been. It was hard to remember back when he didn't know Aiden even existed but now, he knew he could never lose it. He knew he did the right thing in choosing them over his career. Even though Stephanie was hesitant in helping her father run the business because he couldn't wrestle there anymore really didn't bother him as much as she thought. He'd do it all the same if he had to do it all again.
Paul had been right about Vince not being happy about him being near his company but he didn't say much about it and that's probably because she had allowed Aiden to stay with him them. She could tell with his expression that he absolutely hated it just like Linda's expression when she came outside to meet Stephanie to get Aiden. Linda had been too excited and impatient to wait but when she saw Paul in the driver's seat of the car her smile faded a lot. Not enough for Aiden to tell though and she was at least thankful for that. She didn't need them saying stuff to Aiden about Paul and hopefully they could be adults and not say anything.
Aiden loved Paul and basically like any kid when they are little, thought his dad could do no wrong. That's the way Stephanie wanted to stay too.
Now they were finally back at the hotel after the show and Stephanie couldn't be any happier to be away from the arena. It wasn't that stressful tonight but she had to talk more than usual because it seemed like everybody stopped to talk to her and Paul. A lot of people were happy to see Paul and ask him how he was which didn't bother her. It was more when people stared at them when they held hands when walking or stealing little kisses. They acted as if they never saw them do anything like that before. Maybe it was different for people seeing them doing it now since it wasn't a storyline. She wasn't really sure but she was glad to be where nobody could see them and gawk and make her nervous.
"How are you feeling after being there tonight?" Stephanie asked after wiping her mouth with a napkin and balling it up to throw away.
"It was pretty great. The only thing that could have made it better would have obviously actually getting to go out and wrestle" Paul replied before taking a bite of his pizza.
"I'm sorry I didn't even think about that" Stephanie shook her head feeling guilty about not thinking about it before asking him to fly out with her.
"Steph it's fine. I had a great time just watching backstage and talking to everybody I haven't seen in a while."
"Are you sure?"
"I wouldn't say it if it weren't true" Paul replied as she got up and threw away her napkin.
"I already feel guilty a lot that I'm helping run the business when you can't be a part of it. I just got so excited at the thought of you being here with me tonight I didn't even think about how it would make you feel being there and not being allowed to do wrestle."
"Baby it's fine really. I enjoyed myself even though yes there was times I wished I was the one heading to the ring. It was still fun and you let me give you some input on some stuff."
"Well it was nothing major" Stephanie shrugged feeling bad. Maybe she should have let him help her with a lot more than she did but she didn't want someone catching on and letting her dad know.
"It was something, that's all that mattered. I didn't feel left out and I had fun talking to some of the people I used to talk to and hang out with on occasion."
"I wish it could have been more though" Stephanie replied before taking a drink out of her water bottle.
"I know you do but honestly Steph I had a good time" Paul replied going over to her and rubbing the side of her mouth. "Pizza sauce."
"I'm going to go clean my face and then we'll call Aiden and see how he is" Stephanie said headed to the bathroom.
"Sounds good" Paul called as she flipped on the light to the bathroom.
A few minutes later she was turning the faucet off and glanced up into the bathroom to see Paul standing there watching her. She smiled at him in the mirror before grabbing a towel to dry her face on. As she was finishing, she felt his presence behind her and then she felt him press against her and his arms wrap around her waist and then he started to trail soft kisses down her neck. She tilted her head sideways a little to give him better access and relaxed back against him. Every little kiss sending a tingle down her spine and setting every part of her body ablaze. It was a little embarrassing how easily he had her turned on but then it again it had been a long time since she had sex. Her and Paul hadn't got to that part yet even with everything they had went through so far. It was probably silly to someone on the outside but she couldn't help but still be scared of him leaving up until she told her parents about Paul. Then her dad has his heart attack and she hadn't really been focusing much on herself.
She bit her bottom lip to keep from moaning as he kissed back up to underneath her ear where he pressed his lips and let them linger for a few seconds. Then felt his breath on her ear.
"Let's get married" he whispered softly. It took her a moment to register what he had said. Her heart picked up speed as her body froze and her mouth became dry.
"Steph?"
"I-I" Stephanie stammered not really not knowing what to say. She was in complete shock because it had come from out of nowhere.
"You don't want to" Paul stated sounding kind of hurt. It wasn't that she didn't want to it was just sudden and they had really only started dating.
Stephanie turned around to face him and she had been right about him sounding hurt because she could see it in his eyes.
"It isn't that I don't want to. It's just so sudden and we've really only began dating."
"I know but we've never really done things the way we should have. We have a child together and we live together now" Paul said tucking her hair behind her ears. "I know that I've never felt the way I feel about you with anyone else and I don't think I ever would and I honestly don't ever want anyone else. You're it for me Steph. We're in Vegas this is kind of where it all started for us even though you hated me. There was a reason I kept trying to get you to like me Steph. We're meant to be."
"Paul" Stephanie smiled as she felt her heart melt and touched her hand to his chest. It was the most romantic thing he had ever said to her.
"Marry me Steph" Paul said again covering her hand that was on his chest and stared into her eyes. "Will you marry me?"
