Bella calls Edward. She is ready to patch things up for good. They spend a little alone time in the meadow
This chapter has sexual content.
It had been several weeks since Bella had met Edward at the coffee shop and talked things out. They had been spending more time together, but never alone. She just didn't feel ready and he didn't push it. He had been patient and understanding with her. She was taking time to think some things over. His confessions to her that night over coffee had broken her heart. He was sacrificing so much to be with her. Maybe it was time she did the same. When she first found out Edward was a vampire she had thought about asking him to turn her too. It sounded romantic, spending eternity together, never growing old, getting sick, or having to say goodbye, but it all seemed like a fairy tale. Now, though, she was having some very serious thoughts on the subject. Would she be willing to give up her human life for Edward? If push came to shove, could she do it?
Bella picked up the phone to call Edward on Saturday morning.
"Hello, my Bella, '' he said, his voice full of hope. He was so happy to hear from her.
"Would you want to hang out this afternoon?"
"Yes," he answered quickly. "Anything you had in mind?" He asked.
"No, not really, I just thought it would be nice to spend some time together."
"I will be there, is one o'clock okay?'
"Perfect." Bella's stomach filled with butterflies.
Edward knocked on the door at one. Bella answered right away.
"Hi, come in." She motioned for him to step inside.
"Hey Edward," Charlie called from the living room.
"I thought he was going to be working this afternoon, so maybe we could go somewhere else. I was thinking about the meadow?"
The meadow, he was surprised. She wanted to go to their special place, alone. "Absolutely, let's go." Edward smiled at her.
Once they made it to the clearing, Bella spread out the blanket she had brought. She had wanted to have a chance to talk to Edward about the things she had been thinking over the last few weeks and this felt like the perfect place.
Edward could tell she had something on her mind. She had been very quiet during the drive and now she sat with her feet tucked under her biting her lip. Her stare was a thousand miles away.
"Bella, you have been very quiet, what's on your mind?" He asked her.
Her eyes met his. "Yes, there is something I think we need to talk about. I have been thinking…" She sighed, while she had thought of little else she hadn't planned out what she wanted to say. She blurted out "I want you to turn me." Edward jumped up from where he had been sitting beside her.
"No," he said violently, as he shook his head. "I will not take your human life, Bella. End of discussion."
Her voice came out much calmer than she felt. "Will you please sit down, that didn't come out right. Please let me explain." He sat back down next to her. Bella reached over and put her hand on his leg. "After we talked over coffee, I thought a lot about it. At first, it was such a romantic notion, but I love you and that isn't going to change. I want to be with you, forever." Edward sat completely still but his thoughts were running wild. He would not let her do this. He couldn't let her give up her life. He would refuse.
"Bella, you have no idea what you are asking."
"I am not saying we will do this tomorrow, or next week. There are a lot of human experiences I want to have. I want to travel, maybe college." Bella chuckled, "Move out of Charlie's, and I want all of those human experiences with you. All I am asking is we start the discussion, then when the time is right for both of us, we take that leap together. I understand there will be things that I will miss, people I will miss. I know I won't be alive anymore, but that doesn't mean life is over. It will just be different." Edward could not believe what he was hearing.
"I know you say you have thought about this, and you think you understand what you would be leaving behind, but Bella, you can't begin to grasp it."
"So tell me." She replied defiantly.
"First of all, you will never sleep again."
"You don't need to sleep, you don't get tired." Bella countered.
"Bella", he said taking her hand, "I cannot tell you how many times I have wished I could lay down, close my eyes, and sleep. To be able to shut the world out for just a little while and dream. You may not get physically tired Bella, but you get weary."
She was unmoved. " How many times have you told me that you will watch a sad movie just to have a soul-cleansing cry? Those are your words. No more crying, Bella, no way to release those emotions, they are just stuck. Don't even try to tell me that you are ready to give up food. I've seen the way you look at pasta." A grin came over her face.
"Okay, you have a point there." She said laughing.
"What about Charlie?" He asked with sadness in his eyes. She sighed. There was Charlie.
"I am just trying to make sure you have all the facts. I didn't have a choice in this Bella, and yes, there are some advantages, but I don't know if they really outweigh the cons." He said looking down at his lap. "I will tell you this, if you are set on this decision, let's talk to Carlisle, and ask Rose how she feels about her vampire life. I just want you to make an informed decision because there is no going back."
Bella nodded. She did take this seriously and she meant she wasn't ready yet, but her mind was made up. She wanted to spend eternity with him and that meant becoming a vampire.
"One more thing and we can stop talking about this for now." He raised his eyebrows. "I need to know you will be the one, the one to turn me."
He didn't know if he could make that promise. He didn't know when the time came if he could take her life. He did know he loved her with his whole heart. He would make sure she had every possible human experience she could ever want. Show her the value of staying that way. Prove to her no matter her age he would love her just as he did now.
"Bella," he said cupping her face, "I don't want to make a promise I may not be able to keep. Asking me to take your life, I don't know if I could, but I will think about it and maybe when the time comes"… Bella kissed him before he could finish speaking.
"That's all I ask."
She kissed him again. She moved to sit on his lap. She had missed him so much, not just being around him, but being with him. Night after night she would wake up in the middle of the night hoping to find him sitting at the foot of her bed. She missed their closeness. She knew she needed time to process everything that had happened and she needed the space to make decisions about their future together. Now they were here in their meadow alone after all this time. She was ready.
"I know we need to be careful. I need to be careful", she said in his ear, "but I have missed you."
"Me too." He looked deep into her eyes. Slowly he traced his thumb down her jaw to her chin, then he lifted her face to meet her lips with his. She leaned into him, allowing him to part her lips with his tongue. He explored her mouth as she turned to face him still in his lap. He ran his hands up her thighs pushing her skirt over her hips.
"Bella," he growled, "I do not want to do anything you are not ready for."
"Edward, I need you."
He laid her down in the tall grass of the meadow. He moved on top of her. He unbuttoned her blouse torturously slowly. He kissed the bare skin he revealed button by button. Bella's eyes closed, and she ran her fingers through his hair, enjoying the sensations he was leaving. She pulled at the back of his t-shirt. He let her take it off and she laid it beside her. Once he finally had her blouse unbuttoned, he gently laid against her hot skin. He buried his head in her hair as he nuzzled her neck, breathing her in. She gasped.
"I'm sorry Bella," he said sitting up.
"No," she reached for his shoulders bringing him back to her. "It just surprised me, that's all." She laid her head against his. She ran her nails over his bare back and arms. She missed his weight on her.
He shifted to undo his jeans, and she pushed them off his hips. When he kissed her nothing existed in the meadow but him. Her Edward. He reached between them and carefully pulled her panties down. He touched her carefully with his fingers, and she moaned beneath him. He never thought he would ever have her like this again. He wanted to make this moment last forever. He ran his hand through her long hair and softly brushed the side of her face with the back of his fingers. Her cheeks began to flush, she was muttering nonsensical words, and she began to pant his name. He stopped touching her just as she reached her peak.
Her eyes shot open, "Are you okay" she asked him.
"Yes," he purred in a low voice. A sultry smile on his face. He was enjoying this. He loved to watch her pleasure. It was something he hoped to see over and over in their years together. He shifted again. He couldn't wait any longer; he had to be with her, inside her.
"Are you ready Bella?" he asked softly.
"Please Edward," she begged.
They both moaned with relief and pleasure. She met his hips with hers. He knew he would not last long. It had been so long since he had had her this way. These weeks apart had been filled with so much hurt and anxiety, but it was all being washed away. She was his again. Bella's pulse began to race, she was getting close. She reached up and took his face in her hands, and she brought his mouth to hers as they came together.
They lay in the meadow together for the rest of the afternoon. They both wanted to get back some of the time they had lost.
Edward sat up and reached for his jeans. He had been carrying around the book of poetry Bella had bought him for Christmas. Whenever he missed her, he would pull out the now worn paperback and read, marking the passages he would share with her if he ever had the chance.
"What is that?" Bella asked. He turned the cover of the book to her. "You have been carrying that around?" Bella's voice caught.
"Yes, it made me feel close to you. Can I read to you?"
"Of course." Bella laid her head in Edward's lap as he opened the book and began to read.
"It's called 'The First New Year'.
Long ages since when Time was young,
A blissful couple sat and sung
In Eden's lovely fields so fair,
Before the tempter entered there;
The rosy hours were whiled away
In sweet repose or gently play;
One little darling, lonely boy
Filled both their hearts with boundless joy.
She loved when Edward read to her, his voice was soft velvet on her soul. He continued to read several other poems and Bella soaked up every word.
The sun began to set, and she had lost all track of time. She was brought back to reality when Edward's phone rang.
"It's Charlie," he said, handing her his phone.
"Oh no," She answered the phone. "Hey Dad"
"Hey, Dad? Hey Dad! Bella, where have you been? I have been calling you for over an hour." Charlie yelled into the phone.
"Sorry, I must have left my phone in Edward's car. We went to a movie." She looked at Edward and he shook his head, Bella was the worst liar.
"Well, it's time to get on home."
"We're on our way."
They quickly got dressed. Edward picked Bella up bridal style and ran out of the woods. He would need to drive fast to get her back home in the time frame Charlie would be expecting.
As they pulled into the drive Charlie was standing in the front door arms crossed over his chest. Edward reached for Bella's hand and kissed it as she got out of the car.
"Come by tonight. We never finished reading Mrs. Dalloway," she said with a smile.
"I would love nothing more."
