A/N: This was fun to write, hope it's fun to read :)
Thursday, 6:00pm (one week until Valentine's Day)
With schoolwork picking up, Beck and Jade have found themselves texting more than they actually see each other.
Beck (6:00pm): What's your favorite kind of cheese?
Right on schedule. Every night this week he sends out a text to avoid doing work. To be fair, anything is more exciting than staring at a half-written script on his laptop feeling creatively stumped.
Jade (6:02pm): Cheese is gross.
Jade (6:05pm): ...Mozzarella.
Beck (6:06pm): Exotic fruit?
Jade (6:15pm): Mango.
Beck's head perked up in excitement upon hearing his phone chime.
Beck (6:16pm): If you could eat anything in the world right now, what would it be?
Jade (6:17pm): Your head if you keep texting me nonsense.
Beck (6:17pm): You don't have to text me back you know ;).
Jade clenched her jaw. She told him how much she hates emoticons. She also hated that her hand itched to grab her phone and text him back.
Nope. Won't do it. Jade sighed and flipped her phone over.
Unfortunately her willpower disintegrated after 10 minutes.
Jade (6:27pm): Mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Beck smiled deviously and opened a new tab on his laptop.
2 Hours Later
"What do you want? I didn't order anything." Jade scowled, confused at the delivery man standing at her door.
"This is the delivery address. Are you Jade West?"
Not wanting to deal with any more antics, she groaned and said, "Ugh, fine. I'll take it."
Grabbing the bag from his hand, she slammed the door in his face and looked to see what was inside.
Jade (8:00pm): I just got a delivery of three pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Beck (8:01pm): Weird.
"What are you giggling about?" Andre asked as he headed to the kitchen.
"Oh nothing," Beck replied, still smiling. "Just sent Jade a present."
"That's...nice of you," Andre said, wary at the look on his roommate's face. Realizing he's in procrastination mode again, he asked cheekily, "Hey, how's that script going?"
"Yeah, yeah. Whatever, man," Beck grumbled back at Andre's smug expression.
Jade (8:10pm): Thanks, I guess.
Jade (8:15pm): YOU BOUGHT THE GREEN DYE MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ICE CREAM. That's all chemicals and food dye!
She closed the container in disgust and threw the pint in the freezer.
Beck (8:15pm): Babe. It's unhealthy whether it's dyed green or not. And hey! Who said I sent you the ice cream?
Jade rolled her eyes and went back to her desk, determined to not think about the ice cream in the freezer.
30 Minutes Later
Beck (8:45pm): ...How's the ice cream?
She paused mid-bite then stuck her spoon back into the container and picked up her phone.
Jade (8:50pm): Gross.
Jade (8:55pm): ...I'm halfway through the first pint.
Beck (8:56pm): Success!
Jade (8:56pm): Whatever.
1 Hour Later
Beck stretched back in his chair and threw his hands up from the keyboard.
"Dude, I hit 40 pages!" He yelled out, hearing a muffled reply of "yay" coming from Andre's room. His mini celebration was cut short when the doorbell rang.
Beck (9:00pm): Why did I just get a delivery of 6 lemons and a bag of sugar?
Jade's mouth turned up into a big smirk.
Jade (9:00pm). You like lemonade.
Beck (9:01pm): Hmm. This is true. Although I'm a bigger fan of, you know, pre-made lemonade.
Jade (9:02pm): Wow Oliver. Even I said thanks for the low-class mint chip.
Beck (9:03pm): THANKS FOR THE LEMONS AND SUGAR, WEST.
Jade (9:10pm): WHATEVER.
Beck shook his head as he dumped the lemons into a large bowl on the kitchen table and stored the sack of sugar in the cabinet.
After another hour of uninterrupted, focused work, he shut his laptop with a finished script that he would proof-read in the morning. With a feeling of accomplishment he packed his stuff up, centered the bowl of lemons on the table (Hmm, pretty classy to have a bowl of fruit, eh?), and went to bed.
Beck (10:50pm): Goodnight, beautiful.
Jade climbed into bed still holding her phone. This is the earliest she's gone to bed in a long time. Her fingers still cramped from sketching in music notes and furiously typing away essay after essay and song after song. She heard junior year at Julliard would be tough, but she didn't anticipate developing carpal tunnel syndrome.
Jade (10:51pm): Night.
Beck grinned and placed his phone on the nightstand.
Friday, 9:00am
Jade woke up to her phone vibrating in her hand, apparently she never put it away last night. Looking at the screen through bleary, half open eyes she makes out a notification: one new email. With a jolt she sat up to click on the message. Her stomach dropped.
"We have received your application and would like to go forward with an interview…" Jade's voice trailed off as she read the email out loud. She went to text Beck the good news, but remembered she hadn't even told him about the internship, let alone that she was applying.
Hearing a rustle in the kitchen she shouted out for Cat. Instead of running in immediately (which was the usual reaction whenever Jade yelled), she heard something drop in the living room then the front door slam shut. Finally Cat came running in.
"Sup?" she asked, attempting to be casual but her heavy breathing gave her away.
"Did you just kick Robbie out?" Jade asked, her eyes narrowing in on the blushing redhead. She didn't wait for a response as the answer was obvious. "Whatever. Guess what?"
She spoke in an excited voice and wore a smile Cat had never seen before. The happiness radiating from her roommate lit up her own face as she replied, "Is this about the internship?"
"Yes- I got an interview!" With a squeal Cat jumped and threw her arms around her.
"You're definitely going to get it in! Jade this is so exciting!"
"It's just the first step, geez."
She suddenly felt a lump form in her throat as reality hit.
She swallowed back the anxiety creeping up on her; about the interview and the potential of a summer without Beck. The first boy she's opened up to, first real relationship, and she can already feel him slipping away.
Oh don't be so dramatic Jade, she thought, rolling her eyes and, just to appease Cat, returned her hug with a quick squeeze before dipping her body out from her hold.
As if Beck could read her mind, her phone lit up.
"Ooh, Beck texted! Have you told him about the internship yet?"
"Bye now," Jade said with a sarcastic smile as she gestured to her door. Cat let out a "hmph" and hopped off her bed.
Beck (9:10am): Want to get coffee after class later?
Jade's smile tightened. With a stomach in knots she reminded herself nothing has actually changed. Just. Be. Normal.
Jade (9:11am): Sure.
Beck (9:11am): Awesome!
Then, holding her breath, she decided to take a plunge:
Jade (9:12am): Cw. Love you.
Jade shook her head and let out a low growl. Thank god no one expects her to be in a good mood. Today should be easy.
Easy, easy, easy.
A/N: I know this chapter's a bit short (I know I fell into the trap of a texting chapter, but I thought it was amusing while still pushing our plot forward). I initially had it combined with the next one, but I think it works better as a stand alone chapter. Let me know what ya think.
Next Up: Bade Valentine's Day :)
This chapter and the next are in the works so can't give exact date they will be up. They will both be longer than this one though, so don't worry.
