AN: This is a mini chapter. It's really just a one-scene chapter but I wanted to give a spoiler on my next storyline and maybe make you guys feel a little better from the previous chapter
Chapter Forty Five – At the Police Station
Kuon stared ahead at the police officer who was watching him as if he were a magic leprechaun who had just pooped out a large pot of gold. Kuon didn't really understand it. All he knew was that nearly twenty hours ago now, he was standing with his pregnant fiancée trying to be in disguise at the Kyoto airport and he had had to say goodbye to her and their child.
There were pieces of his legal identification documents here again but for a different purpose served. Kuon bowed his head as he had his hands flat against the top of the table. He had always hated corrupt police officers and it was so hard to tell the difference between them especially when he was given a confession.
"So, one more time if I'm understanding you correctly," the man said as he studied Kuon. "You're Hizuri Kuon who was legally blown up by the LA division of this gang and assumed to be dead," Kuon nodded, "However, you went into hiding and they tracked you down again, going so far as to threaten to harm those closest to you," Kuon nodded again. "And even after you changed your identity and removed yourself from your previous life, they pursued you."
Kuon looked at him, "Correct," he nodded again and the officer stared at him. "Are you going to continue?" Kuon said after a short period of waiting. The officer nodded once more.
"In order to protect the lives of those you cared about, you went into the gang where you were abused and used as practice to train other members of the gang, you were also told that if you didn't perform criminal acts that you were going to be killed and despite your power and abilities, you believed that it was possible that they would harm you or someone close to you."
Kuon kept his head bowed. The room was dark and cold and he didn't know what time of the day or night it was. He felt incredibly jet lagged and part of him wanted to curl up and sleep but the chances were incredibly high that he would never be able to sleep in a warm bed ever again. They had to know the truth about what was happening and he had to live with his fate.
"Then you had an opportunity to kill the head of the organization, this man," the officer said as he pushed forward a picture, "and may I request that you do understand-"
"I do understand that I am not choosing to have a lawyer present," Kuon told him extremely exhausted. He just wanted this to be over with. He wanted them to give him the death penalty, convict him for the rest of his life, it was the only good thing that he could do at this point.
"And you took it," the officer asked slowly, cautiously and Kuon nodded
"Yes," he said as he turned to look straight at the police officer. "My family didn't know about any of it, my friends, my previous work colleagues. It was just me. I wasn't looking for a way to become the new gang leader, I was just attempting to escape. I know what I did was wrong but I felt I had no other option which is why I'm here now, telling you that I'm a criminal who needs to be -"
"I'll make the decisions for that or a court of law will," the police officer said and Kuon bowed his head again feeling just as if he were a scolded child. "You also said that you wanted this man, Rick, dead. However, you never ordered his killing."
Kuon nodded again and the police officer sighed. He smiled weakly. "This is going to be a mess of paperwork. I truly wish that you had had a lawyer with you but as far as I see it, this is a pretty simple case unless you proceed to trial but I think that with this case you should talk to the state about it."
Kuon sighed. Did that mean that his case was beyond hope? It would certainly make it a lot easier for them to just lock him up. He had admitted to murder, made a full confession, it wasn't just a video blog that he had on the internet about how his hair looked. "That's easiest," he held his wrists out. "I'm ready."
"Well, we'll need for you to return to speak with some people in the government but we're not going to lock you up for killing your captor. It seems that you're a good person despite what you've been through and you were acting out of self-defense. Now, if you were just someone who was trying to get into the to-"
Kuon stared at him and then looked down at his own wrists. This wasn't how it was supposed to go. He was supposed to be getting cuffed and being thrown into a prison cell to live out the rest of his sorry and pathetic life. What were they even talking about?
"We will have to set something up with the government but please remain in the country and keep all of this information confidential," the officer said and Kuon stared at him. "And if anyone from the gang contacts you then please let us know. It's important for us to control contact with the gang and I suggest that you get a lawyer, Mr. Hizuri."
"Aren't you going to lock me up?" Kuon asked as he offered his exposed wrists and the officer shook his head.
"As far as the law is concerned, you are a victim in this situation. I doubt that you'll receive any prison time at all. Is there someone with you now?" he asked and Kuon nodded slowly, still in disbelief of the situation. The officer escorted him to the front of the station where Kuu was visibly shaken and although people were looking at him, he had a dark aura around him. He stood up immediately when he saw Kuon who laughed weakly.
"They are letting me go," he said uneasily and Kuu smiled looking rather confused. "I have to get a lawyer or something."
"Of course, you have to get a lawyer," Kuu said before looking at the officer. Should they just go whilst they had the chance? The officer might not have every detail yet. Kuu didn't want to put his foot in his mouth and reveal some information Kuon wasn't telling them. He smiled as Kuon signed a few papers after studying them each for a while. "Okay, let's go home," he said slowly and Kuon nodded. Kuu stared at Kuon, unsure what to do.
"What happened?" he asked as soon as they were in the car.
"They said that they weren't going to arrest me and that I was a victim in this situation. I told them everything and I think they're going to use me to take down the gang through transferring the leadership role onto an inside guy. They claimed that I'm going to be a free man," he said and Kuu stared at him with a smile.
Finally. Something was going right in the universe.
