Saturday-April
Although the sun was bright in the sky, it wasn't as hot as summer would be and for that, Blaine was thankful. His jacket was good protection in the event that he fell off, but damn it got sweaty sometimes. He zoomed down the street towards the studio where they were taping today, ready to get inside so he could take off the layer. He was completely happy with being naked as much as possible, but unfortunately people didn't always appreciate that.
He was also perfectly happy being unconscious for the next several hours since he had to be up late the previous night, but no. They had to film today because of some asshole celebrity. Blaine rolled his eyes as he dismounted and trudged in to work. He had actually gotten up on time today by some miracle and wasn't at risk of being late. It helped that Tina had yelled at him a few times. His supervisor would be disappointed he couldn't fire him, but Cooper would be overjoyed. Dylan would probably cry himself to sleep.
To be fair, they did sometimes have to film on Saturdays, but he really wanted to sleep in and spend the day mentally replaying last night.
While up on the stage, he had noticed Kurt as soon as he walked in with those girls. He tried to catch the man's eye all night, but he was really invested in whatever they were saying. Then Kurt had sent him a drink and he decided then that he would go talk to him after he wrapped up his set. Which was exactly what he was on his way to do when the thing with the drunk guy happened.
Blaine raked his fingers through his messy hair. He was kind of caught off guard when Kurt had come on to him. He was used to guys being attracted to him of course, but he hadn't really seemed interested for most of the night and then once he spoke to him, he found that wasn't the case. But something about the man flustered him. He wasn't used to being flustered. It might have been the way Kurt dressed (over the top, but it somehow worked for him) or how he asked for what he wanted. It could have been how how obviously successful he was, but whatever it was, Blaine questioned why Kurt would want anything to do with a loser like him.
Then after telling himself he wasn't a loser, he felt kind of bad about hitting on a drunk guy. He didn't want to do anything with him and then have the guy regret it the next day or have to worry the whole time it wasn't consensual. Then there was the whole he-had-two-roommates-that-were-home thing and they really wouldn't have had enough time to leave. So he thought it would be a good idea not to do anything except he really should have gotten the guy's number.
After doing his normal routine of clocking in, storing his things, and checking the schedule, Blaine got into position behind his camera and adjusted his headset. One good thing to come from last night was he had seen a tiny light in the tunnel of his inspiration black hole. It wasn't much, but a bit of a melody started to come to him before he fell asleep last night and try as he might, he could come up with nothing else. It was a start though. He would take it over the great big nothing he had from before.
Begrudgingly, he readied his camera and hoped the taping would fly by so he could go home and work on this. Just as he was distracting himself by thinking of all the ways to make fun of Dylan's new mustache, Cooper came rushing up to him. He was about to flaunt the fact that he wasn't late to work when he saw his brother's face.
"Everything okay, Coop?" Blaine asked after moving his mic where no one could overhear.
Cooper smoothed down his tie and attempted a poor excuse for a smile. "Yeah. Fine. Can we have lunch after this? I feel like I haven't gotten to see you lately."
"Of course, if you're buying." Blaine nudged his brother's arm when he didn't get a laugh. "Are you going to tell me what's wrong?"
"It's nothing."
The younger man leveled him with a glare and Cooper rolled his eyes. Most of the time he was a giant goof ball and it got on Blaine's last nerve. But then he would get like this and Blaine just wanted to make him smile again.
"Fine. I didn't get that part." He started to pick at his nails, a habit he had formed when they were kids and Blaine smacked his hands down. Cooper nodded gratefully, but kept his eyes down. "My manager called this morning and told me. Maybe I should just give up. Maybe I'm not good enough."
Blaine pulled off his mic completely and cupped Cooper's face in his hands, drawing his eyes down to look at him. "Hey. Stop. That's them talking. You are good enough and you will get the part that's right for you. This wasn't right for you. Got it?"
Cooper nodded. Blaine ignored all the looks they were getting.
"Mr. Anderson? We are ready for you!" Dylan said as he sidled up to them.
Cooper's eyes flickered briefly over to him and then back to his brother.
Blaine's stare hadn't wavered. He knew for Cooper to believe it, he had to show him he believed in him. "I need you to tell me you're good enough."
"I'm good enough," Cooper mumbled and patted Blaine's hands that still rested on his cheeks. "Sorry. Just got a little insecure. Especially since the guy on today is so talented." He sniffed as Blaine let him go and replaced his head set.
"Who is it?"
"That Kurt Hummel guy?" Cooper replied as he motioned he would be there in one second to Dylan. The assistant nodded once and weaseled away.
Blaine shrugged. "Don't know him other than he's an asshole for making me miss out on sleep." And possibly writing a new song or finding that pretty guy from last night.
"He's awesome! And gay," Cooper said with a sharp jab to Blaine's gut with his elbow. Blaine refused to show that it hurt a little. "His resume is almost as long as my dick and that's enormous!"
"I wouldn't call three inches enormous— uuughn!" He was elbowed again but it didn't stop his laughter as Cooper was once again called away. "You're the best and don't you forget!" He called after his brother. Times like this made him want to drive to Ohio with the express purpose of giving his parents the middle finger and then leaving again. They sucked.
The audience was being let in and Blaine tried to focus on his actual job instead of all the other stuff on his mind. Tomorrow he had to do some head shots for a guy he worked with at the bar. He needed to prep for that. He was so distracted by all the things he had to do that he barely paid attention to Cooper's show until they got to the guest segment.
"Welcome back to Talking Points!" Cooper said with energy and warmth as he pointed to the audience who pointed right back. Blaine tried not to roll his eyes. His brother needed his support today, not teasing. "Today we have an extra special guest! In the theatre world, he's known for his role playing Boq in Wicked and earning a Fan Favorite award as well as taking the fashion world by storm and becoming the youngest Head Fashion Editor of Vogue in history! Please give it up for Kurt Hummel!"
Blaine swung his camera over to the archway where the celebrity would enter and his eyebrows shot to his hairline at who strolled in. It was the guy. As in, the guy from last night he had saved from those drunken idiots and given a ride home and been invited to have sex with. That guy! He looked amazing in a navy suit, silk tie and— was that a hippopotamus brooch? Odd, but he made it work.
His supervisor ordered him to stay on Kurt and he had never been happier to follow orders.
He didn't even look hungover from his night out as he waved to the excited audience and took a seat across from Cooper after shaking his hand.
"It's so nice to meet you, Kurt!" Cooper said as they settled into their comfy chairs.
Kurt gave him an easy smile and crossed his legs. "Thank you! It's nice to meet you too!"
"So you just moved here from New York?" Cooper asked.
Kurt nodded and folded his hands into his lap. Blaine went in tighter on his face. He wanted to dedicate an entire photo shoot to it. "I did! It's been my home for so long, but the opportunity came and I couldn't pass it up!"
"Well, we are pretty happy you've decided to join us, aren't we?" Cooper asked the audience who cheered and clapped like they were supposed to.
Kurt smiled at them, but Blaine could tell he was doing that nervous thing a lot of people did and looking above everyone's heads instead of at them. A smile jerked the corner of his mouth up. That was pretty cute he got nervous.
"Thank you. I'm happy to be here. Thank you for inviting me to your show."
"So you were on Broadway for awhile right?" Cooper asked, his questions leading.
Kurt nodded again and folded his hands into his lap. He was trying to appear calm and relaxed. If Blaine hadn't seen him tense the night before, he might have missed it.
"Yeah," Kurt said. "I went to NYADA because I was convinced I was going to be on Broadway and that was my dream. While I was going there, I landed my role in Wicked and while it was great and I loved it, I felt fashion calling me." His smile softened into something fond as he spoke. Blaine found himself smiling along. "I've always loved fashion and what it can do for you, especially when you're a closeted gay boy in Ohio." The audience giggled along with Kurt at his face. Blaine's eyebrows went up when he found out where Kurt was from. What a coincidence! "I was interning at Vogue at the time and they offered me a position that I just couldn't turn down. I made the really scary decision to drop out of NYADA and I've been there ever since!"
Cooper leaned forward. "And you're the youngest person to ever get this job there?"
Blaine was so busy tracing the slope of Kurt's cheekbones and nose with his eyes that he almost missed the order to shift the camera. Thankfully he focused and did as he was told, but he had to move out from behind his camera to do so. He understood why Cooper had gotten intimidated, but this guy seemed to be genuinely so nice. He had been pretty nice the night before, but you could never tell when someone had been drinking. He was damn impressive though.
Kurt had leaned forward as well. Cooper was great at making guests feel comfortable. When he wanted to, at least. "Yes, I am the youngest. And I'm so grateful for people that believe in me—" Kurt abruptly cut himself off when his eyes swept towards the audience, but snagged on Blaine. His eyes widened and his mouth moved, but nothing was coming out. "To… To be…. Uh…"
"Kurt?" Cooper cleared his throat and tried to get him back on track. "That's pretty amazing to be promoted when you're what? Twenty-two?" He was trying to flirt a little, but Kurt was still frozen looking directly at him. Blaine tried really hard not to laugh at his shocked face, but he didn't quite succeed.
"Uh, yeah actually…" He finally got ahold of himself when people in the audience started whispering. "Um, what was your question?"
Cooper shot the producers a bewildered smile. "Why don't we take a quick break?"
Kurt gulped the water that had been offered to him in a cup emblazoned with the show's name and tried unsuccessfully to keep his eyes from straying to a smirking Blaine. "I'm so sorry! I don't know what came over me!" His cheeks and ears had gone pink.
Blaine accepted a clipboard from an assistant as makeup came and touched up their already perfect makeup before catching Kurt's eye and giving him a little wink. The man looked away immediately and gulped more water.
By this time, Cooper was glancing between them and a slow, knowing smile crept across his face as the makeup people scurried away. "It's totally fine! I get it." He laughed. "I mean, I'm not into guys or my brother, but I understand the distraction now."
Kurt could have given a fire truck a run for it's money at this point. He looked from one Anderson to the other. "That's— He's your—?"
"Yup. Afraid so. He's definitely single too. If you want—"
"Mr. Anderson! We're ready!"
Kurt tipped the cup up and drank the rest of the water.
"Okay," Cooper said as they settled back into their chairs. "It's totally fine to be nervous. Trust me, everyone wants to bone my brother."
"Oh my god…" Kurt said into his hand.
"He's not as hot as me, of course. But, to each their own. Nothing to be shy about."
"Um, can we…?" Kurt motioned to the general vicinity of the room full of people hearing every word they uttered and the cameras that were filming their every move. "I'd like to get back to the show now. I've composed myself."
Kurt refused to look his direction after that, but Blaine didn't mind. He was enjoying the view far too much. After they finished the interview and plugged his guest appearance on Project Runway for like, the fifth time, they played a trivia game that Cooper loved but was godawful at. Kurt was sharp and witty and Blaine knew he had to make a move or he would die. This guy was hot, smart, funny, and successful and he had to know more about him.
They wrapped after another hour and Cooper invited Kurt to stay for a while, but the man refused politely. He felt like he had embarrassed himself enough for one day. He fervently hoped they would use none of that footage for the actual show.
"I start my new job Monday and I still have so much to do, but thank you! I had a great time."
Cooper nodded in understanding as he was whisked away by his assistant and a whole bunch of other people wanting things from him. Kurt decided to take that as an opportunity to slip out and try to save some dignity. He had gathered his things and passed down a hallway to the back entrance when he almost ran smack into Blaine.
Thankfully, he bit back the squeak that tried to claw its way out. He had been waiting for him it seemed since he was leaning against the wall directly in his way out. Kurt wet his suddenly dry lips and tried really hard not to look at the way Blaine's tattooed arms stretched his grey shirt or how it showed off his chest. Like the night before, he was wearing eyeliner although it wasn't as heavy and his eyes sparkled with the same humor.
"Hey," he said simply.
"Oh hi," Kurt replied, trying not to sound to excited. "How are you?"
"Oh, doing much better now," he said, eyeing Kurt up and down. "Small world, huh?"
"Yeah! I had no idea this was your brother's show! Sorry I was so unprofessional, but I was kind of shocked seeing you."
"It's fine. Happens all the time. You didn't tell me you were so impressive."
"Well, I was being harassed by drunk guys, so it didn't seem to be the time to list my credits." He chuckled and toyed with a button on his jacket.
Blaine laughed low in his throat and tilted his head. "You should let me take you out. Show you around before LA sinks her claws in you."
"Tonight?"
Blaine frowned with plain regret. "I have to work tonight. Tomorrow?"
Kurt leaned forward, just a few inches from Blaine's face and hoped his eyes showed him just what he wanted to do to him. He had to bend just a bit, but Kurt kind of liked that. He was rewarded with a lustful look in return which pleased him. The feeling was definitely mutual.
"Tomorrow. And just what will you show me?" Kurt purred while eyeing Blaine's lips and then chest.
"Whatever you want to see, sweetheart." Blaine smirked. "I can come to your place if you want?"
Kurt did some quick thinking. He had to see if Marley could come. It wasn't like he was trying to hide Kit; he was unapologetic about his love for the boy, but he didn't really think this moment was the best time to bring him up. He was being flirted with for the first time in ages and the I'm-now-the-parent-of-my-deceased-brother's-child-at-twenty-four conversation seemed like something that could happen later.
"How about lunch? My place is still kind of a disaster and I'd like to see the city a bit. I'm sure you know all the best places to go?" Kurt stepped a little closer. Blaine didn't move, but held Kurt's gaze with his own heated stare. "What do you say? Lunch and then you can show me a nice, quiet place?"
"Sounds perfect. I have some work in the morning, but I should be done by 12:30. I can't promise it will be quiet," his eyes raked over Kurt again and the man had to swallow a whimper. "But I can promise you will have a great time." He did not doubt that.
Kurt stepped back and smiled a little at how disappointed Blaine looked. He recovered quickly though. "It's a date."
"Give me your number," Blaine said and held a hand out for Kurt's phone.
"Say please," Kurt teased.
Blaine chuckled and closed the space between them once more, stopping a breath away. Kurt trembled at the closeness, heat radiating from the other man's body.
"Please," Blaine whispered, his lips very close to Kurt's.
Helplessly, Kurt pulled his phone out and put Blaine's number in while he did the same.
"I'm not usually the one begging, but for you, I'd make an exception," Blaine said as he slipped his phone back into his jeans pocket.
Kurt gave him a little smile and shrugged. "I don't know. I think you'd look pretty on your knees." He internally patted himself on the back at Blaine's surprise.
"Mr. Hummel! If I didn't know better, I'd think you were hitting on me!" He put a hand to his chest and Kurt chuckled.
"Guess you'll find out tomorrow." He brushed past him and looked back over his shoulder. "Bye Blaine."
He waved back, a knowing smile on his face.
Kurt let the door fall shut behind him and allowed the pleased smile take over his face. He had a date! He couldn't believe it! Well, okay, he could, but still! This was amazing! He hurried into his car and started mentally planing an outfit and how to get everything ready for the next day and childcare. He drummed the steering wheel in excitement. A date!
Sunday
Be there in 5 minutes! Can't wait -Kurt
Blaine smiled at the text and slipped his phone back in his pocket. This was going to be awesome. He couldn't believe that the hot guy had fallen right back into his lap after he thought he had gotten away. They had texted a little bit the night before, mostly innocent details of where they would meet, but there were a few much more flirty messages that had Blaine kicking his roommates out for the afternoon. Maybe the night too if things went well. Kurt seemed really cool and call him a hopeless romantic, but he might actually see a relationship happening with this guy. This was the first thing he had been excited about for a long time and was actually looking forward to it. At least he would get some sex out of it if nothing else. Kurt might not be looking for anything serious.
Kurt's shiny SUV pulled up beside his motorcycle and he waved from the front seat. Blaine figured he would be into something more sporty or flashy. The man continued to surprise him. The windows were tinted dark and Blaine noted it looked brand new. He probably bought it since moving from New York.
He had been a little intimidated going on a date with someone as into fashion as Kurt Hummel, but after dragging Tina and Sam into his room and going through everything in his closet, he thought he ended up looking pretty nice in a button up denim shirt, black pants and some tan boots he found. It was warmer today than it had been, so he had rolled his sleeves up to the elbow and stripped off his jacket as soon as he parked.
Kurt stepped out of his car looking flawless in some grey fitted pants and a white button up with little designs all over and the top two buttons undone. His hair was immaculate, swept up and shiny. He tugged his expensive sunglasses down and let Blaine see that he was shamelessly ogling him as well.
Blaine laughed and folded his leather jacket over his arm. "If you're finished objectifying me, I'd like to take you to eat, Mr. Hummel."
Kurt smiled, tucked his sunglasses into a case, and pocketed them. "Sorry. Couldn't help myself."
They walked together into the restaurant, all smiles.
"So, tell me why this place," Kurt said as they picked up their menus. The restaurant was pretty nice, but relaxed which was part of why Blaine liked it. They had great food too.
"Since you're kind of famous," Blaine replied, hiding under his folded menu like he was avoiding cameras, "I thought this place would be off the tourist path so you would get a little break. It's more of a local hangout."
Kurt beamed and laughed at his action. It became Blaine's goal to make Kurt laugh as much as possible since it was one of the prettiest things he had ever seen.
"That's… rather thoughtful." Kurt sipped his water. "I'm not really that famous though."
"You were on Cooper's show. And Broadway."
He tilted his head. "True, but I am pretty much just doing promotion for the show I was on. Most people probably don't care who I am." He studied his menu again. "So, did you grow up here?"
Blaine sat back in his seat and twirled a paper napkin. "That's actually kind of funny. I grew up in Ohio too. I moved here when I was fourteen with Cooper."
"Stop!" Kurt's mouth had dropped open. "Seriously?"
"Yeah. Small world, remember?"
Kurt nodded in agreement. "So, does your family still live there? My dad and stepmom do and they complain about the distance all the time."
Blaine felt his smile fall. This was verging into material he didn't really want to talk about on a first date. Or whatever this was. He kind of hoped it was a date. It felt very date-like. "As far as I know. Coop and I don't really talk to them. Sorry, touchy subject."
Kurt immediately backed off, pursing his lips with understanding. "Oh. Sorry." He looked down at the table like there was a list of conversation starters there and immediately brightened. Wow, he was kind of adorable. "What about work? You said you had to work today?"
There was a safe subject. "Yeah, doing a photo shoot. I am a part time photographer."
"Well, Well. A singer, cameraman, and photographer. Is there anything you are bad at?" Kurt had leaned his chin on his hand and that look he had given Blaine the day before sparkled in his eyes, making Blaine's heart race.
"Not much," he flirted back. "I'm really good at a lot of things." He arched an eyebrow up and let him interpret that however he wanted. He wasn't disappointed.
"I'd love to find out." Kurt let his eyes trail down Blaine's body slowly and then climb back up to his eyes. He felt it like it was fingers brushing his skin, shiver inducing.
"Oh you will," Blaine assured him. By the way he bit his lip, they were very much on the same page.
"Have we decided?" The server asked, breaking whatever spell had been building between them.
Blaine sat back and ordered as Kurt cleared his throat, picking the menu back up. Once he was gone, Kurt had gone back to being well-mannered and conversational.
"So, do you write songs too?"
Blaine took a drink of his own water to allow himself time to think of a good answer. He didn't want to be a downer on their first date, but he didn't want to lie either. "I… It's been a while. I wrote one with a friend about a year ago and he kind of stole it. It's been hard ever since then."
Kurt frowned in sympathy. "Oh wow, that's horrible."
"It was, but I think things are starting to look up a little in that department."
They shared another smile as they both sipped from their glasses.
Blaine set his down and folded his arms on the table in front of him. He tried not to grin at the way Kurt's eyes kept returning to his tattoos. He didn't really care if people stared (especially the way Kurt was looking at them like he wanted to lick them.) He hoped that he could give him an intimate tour of his tattoos very soon. But at this moment, he wanted to get to know Kurt. "Tell me about you. Did you always want to move to California or was it purely for the job?"
Kurt took a few seconds to consider. There was something behind his eyes that made Blaine think he was choosing his words very carefully. Maybe an ex was left behind.
"Honestly? I thought New York was it for me. We took a trip there when I was a teenager for Glee Club Nationals and compared to Ohio, it felt like freedom. It was home." He smiled a little sadly. "My brother passed away suddenly about six months ago. It was definitely a great job offer, but I think part of me wanted a fresh start too. Like he was part of New York or something. Kind of silly, huh?"
Blaine felt like there was more to the story, but he didn't want to pry. Especially since Kurt had been so nice about his own taboo topics. Cooper was his rock and he couldn't even fathom how lost he would be if something happened to him. He reached across the table and gently touched Kurt's hand. An invitation. Kurt turned his hand over and curled his fingers around Blaine's.
"I'm sorry about your brother, but I'm sure he was proud of you. You were really brave to move somewhere brand new and start over. I for one am glad you're here."
Kurt squeezed fingers and raised his glass. "To inspiration and new beginnings."
Blaine tapped their glasses together. "Inspiration and new beginnings."
Over their meals, they shared about places in Ohio they both knew about and funny stories from performing. Kurt hadn't been so relaxed or laughed so hard it what felt like years. Blaine was so nice and funny and hot and they just clicked. He didn't want to get ahead of himself, but he was having a really great time and he sincerely hoped it wouldn't be the last time they went out.
After they finished eating, Blaine told him he wanted to show him another place that not a lot of people knew about. Kurt bit back a reply about hoping it was his bedroom. He could be patient.
"My friends and I found it back in high school," Blaine explained as he helped Kurt off of the back of his motorcycle.
Kurt enjoyed this ride much better than the last time since he didn't feel like throwing up and wasn't horribly embarrassed. The biker had brought him to a beach that was mostly secluded. A few people were sitting in the sand or walking along where the waves lapped at the shore, but Kurt guessed the water might be a little cold since it was only April. Blaine pulled off his boots and rolled his pants up and Kurt followed his lead with a grin. They carried their shoes and socks and let the soft sand squish in between their toes. Blaine took Kurt's free hand in his own which he did gladly.
They ambled along quietly for a bit, enjoying the crash of the waves and the gorgeous afternoon sun on their faces.
"Hey," Blaine said, tugging on Kurt's hand. The designer wasn't sure he liked the mischievous glint in the other man's eyes. He raised a suspicious eyebrow at him.
"What?"
"Come here." He pulled Kurt along until they were at the wave's reaching edge. Kurt balked.
"No! I'm not prepared to swim!"
"We aren't swimming, just wading a bit."
"No!"
"Just dip your toes in."
"Blaine! There are sharks in the ocean!"
Blaine gave him an incredulous tilt of his head. "Not in three inches of water." He let go of Kurt's hand and stepped into the frothy wave. "Come on! Don't be a baby!" He kicked a little splash of water at Kurt's legs and he squawked in a way he definitely didn't feel was cool for a first date. But Blaine laughed really hard, so instead of getting embarrassed, he smiled sweetly and jumped in so that chilly water splashed up Blaine's whole legs and chest. He gasped in shock and they started to kick water at each other like children.
After they were both uncomfortably wet and had gotten a few weird looks, they ran giggling down the shore through the water until the other beach goers were just smudges on the horizon.
Kurt was trying to catch his breath and fix his disheveled hair when he caught Blaine just staring at him. His cheeks and neck warmed and he tried not to show how self-conscious he was.
"What?"
Blaine pulled out his phone and started tapping something on the screen. "Just stay right there. Don't move."
Kurt's knees almost gave way. "Blaine, if there's a shark you better tell me! I'm serious! I am not being eaten—"
"Kurt!" He half-laughed, half yelled. "There's no shark! You just look… Can I take a picture of you? I don't have my camera, but I think it would be a nice portrait."
Kurt's mouth fell open, but he snapped it shut quickly. Who was this guy? He shrugged and tried to stand in a way that looked normal. "Sure. That's fine."
Blaine's lips twitched and he did that crouching thing all photographers did. He took a few pictures and moved closer. "Look out towards the sea. Yes, perfect. Don't smile. Just look. Put your free hand in your pocket. Yup, like that. Relax your shoulders… and angle your hips slightly away from me. Perfect." He kneeled in the water, seemly unbothered that he was getting wet and took more pictures. He made Kurt shift a few more times and then finally sloshed back through the water towards him. "Want to see?"
Kurt nodded and gasped when he looked at the screen. He knew he was attractive, but the way Blaine had him stand and pose… he looked like a model or something. It was beautiful, his face was nonchalant and brooding as he stood in the sparkling golden light. The sun picked up hints of gold and red in his hair and his eyes matched the sea around him.
"Blaine, oh my god! These are amazing! You're so talented!"
He beamed. "It's easy to photograph beautiful things."
Kurt looked up at that and Blaine was still grinning, hands on his hips and eyes squinted in the sun. Kurt smiled a little shyly at him.
"Take one with me," he said, nudging Blaine with his elbow. His grin widened and he sloshed closer to Kurt, his chest brushing Kurt's back and rested his chin on Kurt's shoulder. He was standing so close that Kurt could feel the way his heart thumped against his shoulder.
Blaine snapped a few selfies and on the last one, Kurt decided to do something bold. Right as Blaine was about to take the picture, Kurt turned his head and pressed a gentle kiss against Blaine's cheek. It was smooth with a slight scratch of stubble and warm and he could smell his musky cologne this close. Blaine took the picture. If he was surprised, he didn't show it. Instead he slid his phone into his pocket and turned his face to Kurt's as he pulled back. They were still only inches away, the wind lifting a few strands of Kurt's hair from his forehead. The moment felt electric and dreamlike. Kurt leaned forward, just slightly so that Blaine could tell what his intentions were. He didn't have to lean very much before Blaine moved closer and cupped Kurt's jaw in his hand. Their lips touched gently at first, sweetly, and then Kurt pressed more insistently. He grasped Blaine's shoulders and pulled him closer. Blaine made a noise of agreement before his hand pulled him harder and he felt Blaine's tongue tip graze his bottom lip. Kurt opened his mouth gladly and the kiss turned heated. Blaine's tongue swiped into his mouth and his own slipped against Blaine's before he sucked it suggestively.
Things were getting to a level of public indecency that Kurt was uncomfortable with when Blaine broke away panting, his hands sliding down to grasp Kurt's.
"Come with me. I know a place we can be alone."
This attraction and chemistry between him and Blaine was crazy. And it wasn't just because he looked like one of his teenage wet dreams either with the whole, I'm-a-badass-with-tattoos-and-drive-around-on-a-fucking-motorcycle thing. All their conversations were so interesting and fun and flirty and it had been so long since Kurt had felt this way. It was like wildfire had spread through his entire body, snapping and crackling, licking up all of his nerves until he was only ash. He knew at that moment he would follow Blaine wherever he wanted to go.
He clenched Blaine's hands in his and kissed him hard before they ran out of the water. Blaine led him to a little alcove tucked away in the rocky shoreline. No one was around and once they got to the back, Kurt noted they couldn't be seen from the entrance unless the person came all the way to the back where they were. All thoughts about being caught flew out of his brain when Blaine's hands found their way under Kurt's shirt and his lips found Kurt's neck.
Kurt let his head fall back and a gasp escaped his lips as Blaine rubbed his half-hard erection through his pants. "Oh my god, yes." So many ideas popped into his head and he was about to act on every single one when a buzzing and ringing reached his ears. Kurt absently noted that it was in fact, his cell phone.
Blaine pulled away panting, but continued to kiss down Kurt's chest as he answered the call begrudgingly. If it was work he would chew them out the next day.
"What?"
"Oh! Mr. Hummel! I'm so sorry!" Marley's voice was laced with concern.
Kurt immediately went ridged. Feeling the tension, Blaine stopped kissing him.
"What's wrong?" Kurt asked quickly. He couldn't stop thinking of all the terrible scenarios that could have befallen his child.
"I was giving Kit his dinner and he had some sort of allergic reaction to something! He has this rash around his mouth and on his arm! I called the doctor but I remembered you have the car seat and I'm worried he's going to stop breathing—"
"Okay, slow down," Kurt said, running his fingers through his hair. Blaine had released him and was standing with his hands in his pockets and staring at the ground. He could hear everything. "Thank you for calling the doctor. You did the right thing. Now, is he breathing? Is there any swelling?"
She sniffed and he could hear Kit babbling in the background. "Uh, okay. He seems okay. I don't think anything is swelling. Just the rash."
"Alright. I will head that way now. Just breathe and call me if anything changes before I get there. It's okay."
"Okay. I'm so sorry—"
"Don't be sorry. I want you to call me if something happens. You did the right thing."
They hung up and Kurt blew out a deep breath. Blaine was looking at him, not angry but… something. Kurt tried for a smile. "Uh, I'm really sorry about having to cut this short, but I have an emergency back home."
Blaine nodded. "Of course. I'll take you back to your car."
There was an awkward air around them as they put their shoes back on and made their way to Blaine's bike. Kurt was concerned about Kit, but he did notice Blaine didn't try to take his hand the way he had before or really look at him as they walked.
Kurt opened his mouth to say what, he had no idea, but Blaine beat him to it.
"So you have a kid?"
Kurt nodded. Blaine smiled encouragingly, but it didn't reach his eyes.
"Uh, yeah. He's actually my nephew, but I've adopted him. He's one."
Blaine was quiet, but then pain flashed across his face. "Your brother?"
Kurt nodded sadly. "I was named in his will. I wanted to though." He bit his lip. "I wasn't trying to hide him. I just thought that it was something I could explain later."
Blaine smiled faintly. It didn't ease the tension in the slightest. They didn't say anything else as they climbed onto Blaine's bike. The drive back went by far too quickly and Kurt spent the few minutes worrying for Kit and wondering about Blaine's complete attitude change.
"Sorry again," Kurt said as he dug his keys out of his pocket.
Blaine was leaning against his bike and spinning his helmet in his hands. "No, it's fine. I hope he's okay."
"I'm sure he will be." Blaine wasn't looking at him and it kind of hurt, but Kurt tried to think how he would feel if he were in Blaine's shoes. Things had been going so perfect up until now Hopefully he didn't think Kurt had a friend fake the call to get out of his date? He licked his lips. "Um, how about we get coffee tomorrow? My treat since it's kind of my fault." He looked up at Blaine hopefully.
Blaine smiled, but it was pained. He stopped messing around with his helmet. "I'm really sorry, but I don't date people with kids."
Kurt felt like he was on the roller coaster again. If the afternoon had been the climb to the top and the breath-taking view, this was the drop. He smiled ruefully. "That's too bad. Thank you for the date. I guess I will see you around?"
Blaine nodded. "I'm sorry. I just can't."
Kurt pasted on a smile. "It's fine," he lied. "Better to know now! I've got to go. Bye, Blaine. Thanks again."
He jumped into his car before the biker could reply and rushed home. Thankfully traffic wasn't too bad and soon he was rushing up his front steps and into his house.
Kit was sitting in the living room with some toys and a sheepish-looking Marley was kneeled beside him next to a pile of used wipes. Kit looked up and squealed when he saw Kurt, immediately stumbling up to run into his arms.
"Hi sweetie," he said as the boy grabbed for his hair immediately. Kurt noted a faint pink stain around the child's mouth. "How are you feeling?"
Marley stood and joined them. "Mr. Hummel, I am so sorry! It was kind of a false alarm. I was just about to call you." Her eyes shone with unshed tears and she wrung her hands. "He ate beets for dinner and they must have stained his face and his hand and I thought it was a rash." She sniffed a little. "I'm so sorry I interrupted your night!"
Kurt kissed Kit's little round cheek and put a reassuring hand on her arm. "Hey, it's okay. You still did the right thing. Thank you."
She took a deep breath and nodded.
"It's not like it was going anywhere anyway," he said, mostly to himself. Then, louder, "Since I'm back you can go on home. We will see you tomorrow, okay?"
Marley nodded and went to go gather up the wipes.
Kurt looked at Kit. "Well, it's just me and you, kid. Forever."
Kit sneezed directly in Kurt's face and he made a sound of disgust. "Thanks for that." Kit giggled.
With a sigh, Kurt carried the child off to the kitchen so he could fix himself some food and then give Kit a bath. Who cared what Blaine thought? He had a great life and if he didn't like it, he wasn't for him.
So why did it feel so awful?
