7. Guilt (The Love Thine Enemy Raid)

It shouldn't have happened. A German nurse was shot by a miscalculation on his part. He could never have lived it down if she'd died. A few years later he was at his desk in Berlin and looked up as she was introduced. Just as beautiful, with a smile now instead of a grimace of pain.

He came from around the desk and took her hand.

"I didn't know you were still alive. Friends?" he asked, looking deeply at her.

With a simple nod, she erased all of his guilty years. Murmuring, she said, "I didn't tell about the tanks."

In this episode, Sgt. Troy mistakenly shoots a German nurse. Eaten up by guilt, he has to get her to medical care, even in a German field hospital. This puts all of their lives at risk. Sgt. Moffitt tries to persuade him not to take the risk, especially after the wounded nurse hears about some Allied tanks. Troy hands him his service pistol to take care of her, as they can't leave her out on the desert to bleed to death. Moffitt backs down. At the end, after the Rats leave her at the hospital, they're glad to hear that the tanks remained a secret. She either died or, as she promised, she didn't tell. Now we know which it was.
