Chapter 17 : Rebirth of Shirakami Fubuki

A long time ago, there was a fox living in the northern region of the world. It's just a normal fox in an arctic region of the planet.

One day, this fox was separated from it's home when it steps into the edge of the ice path. It splits up in the icy land that was it's home.

After a long month of drifting into the seas, alone and depressed, it finally arrived in a land different from what it was used to. It was a land of dirt and grasses.

This is the first time it sees dirt. It was used to snows and icebergs.

It tried to survive in it's new environment. Eating the small preys that it can find and fleeing on it's predators, it manages to survive.

And then in a certain day, without knowing it, it ate a demon disguising as a rat in the forest. This turned it into a demon.

The fox, now turned into a demon, manages to outlived it's lifespan. And then it grew stronger as times passed.

After a hundred years of living alone in a forest, it was finally discovered by the humans.

At first, it was cautious and tried to scare off the humans. But as time passed, there are humans who tries to worship it. One of them being a commoner family with a surname of Shirakami.

It grew soft and trusted the humans. And then in a certain night, with the full moon showing it's full glory, it was invited by the festivals of the humans. Having trusted them enough, it tried to go there.

The people shows him their hospitality and they asks it to drink with them and become jolly with the festival.

But it didn't know that there was a plan to kill it. The Sake that they put in it's palate was poisoned.

Having sniffed through it, it roared in anger and destroyed the festival that the traitorous humans was having a fun to.

It seems like the festival main attraction was supposed to be it's death. The one who decided that is the local lord who governs that town.

Angry by what it learns, it burns the lord's manor and ate the lord that ask for it's death.

But while it was in the middle of doing that, a brave Samurai fought it and it was gravely wounded due to a special sword that he was wielding. It was a sword that can vanquish a life of an immortal, forged by the hands of a legendary expert.

It flees after making a mortal blow to the brave Samurai. And then it succumbs to it's wounds and collapsed on the floor.

Thinking that it's time has come, it tried to slowly close it's eyes as it curses the humans that betray it's trust.

But it was interrupted when a woman in her thirties came to it's side, with a basket full of medicinal herbs.

It was a woman from the Shirakami family who always comes to it to worship it.

The fox thought that she was there to finish the job but it seems like the woman was trying to help the fox. She took care of it's wounds and carried it to her house to recover.

But her meager amount of knowledge on medicines can't cure a wound made by an immortal slaying blade. So it just prolonged the inevitable.

"Why are you helping me?" The white fox asks weakly in confusion.

"... Because you look lonely." The woman said as she tried help the fox in any way.

"Just because of that?" The fox said while still feeling confused.

"Of course. I know that you are a demon... but who says that all demons are bad?" The woman said with a shrug of her shoulders. "For me, you are much more trustworthy than those ambitious people on the outside." The woman continues before applying more healing ointments on it's wounds.

"You would do so much just for me?" The fox asks once again.

"Of course." The woman said sincerely. "You look like you need someone to be besides you. You really look lonely you know?" She said as she tried to stabilize the fox's health.

"... Do I really look that lonely?"

"Yes." The woman replied.

The white fox thinks about it for awhile. It can still remember how it separated from it's family due to staying much longer on the icy path instead of getting out of there.

It didn't know where is it's home now. It also knows that it's family was already dead a long time ago due to having lived a long time.

For it's hundred years of life, the fox only lives to survive. Eat some preys, stay on it's nest, and then repeat.

So it might be also why the fox was happy to have some companions, even if they are humans. It might have let it's guard down because it also wants to be accompanied by someone.

So it finally accepted the woman's words. It really was lonely.

"... It seems like you can't save me anymore. This body won't last much longer."

"No! Don't give up! It would be too sad to see you die!" The woman said while some tears are falling down on her cheeks.

"Hush young one. This body might perish, but my soul can still linger on." The white fox said. "So long as I was put inside an object, I can rest until I can recover. You might not be alive to see that day, but due to your diligence, I will entrust my soul to you and your family." The white fox declared.

Hearing that, the woman was surprised before she kneeled besides the fox.

"I shall strive to meet your expectations. Arctic Fox-sama!"

"... Is that what you call me?"

"Yes, your fur was like a snow blanket and your visage felt like the atmosphere of the winter. I apologize if that name doesn't please y-"

"Nonsense. I appreciate the title that you gave me." The Arctic Fox said with an amused tone. "From this day on, I am the Arctic Fox. As for my first statement as the Arctic Fox, I shall declare you and your family as my only true comrades." The Arctic Fox declared with a clear voice.

Then it's strength suddenly left it, it's body reaching it's limit.

"... Yes, I will do my utmost best." The woman said in earnest.

After that, she decided to put the Arctic Fox's soul inside the pendant that she have.

And then, the Arctic Fox watches the life of the generations of Shirakami while it was inside the pendant. Though it was sad that it can't talk with the woman that first saves it due to old age, it was still happy because the woman's descendants are all friendly and they always try their best to take care of the pendant.

And thus, that was the end of it's tale.

"And then those people wipes out the whole Shirakami Clan and take me to their own place. I was trembling in anger by just remembering it!" The Arctic Fox roared in anger which makes Ayumi flinch.

"... Right, thank you for telling me all of that." Ayumi said while trying not to touch that subject again.

While she was still reeling with the whole "Wiping out a whole clan" topic, she doesn't want to enact revenge just to satisfy the Arctic Fox.

She can understand why the Arctic Fox is mad like that but she was a third party in this affair. Also, she doesn't want to hurt someone just because they have a record of killing someone.

'But... maybe I will be forced to do that. I don't know what the future entails to me.' She thought to herself while feeling depressed about it.

Now that she knew that the supernatural existed, she needs to be prepared by it.

That means she needs to strengthen herself again. She needs to take all of the rewards that the system always gives her and use it to it's max potential.

Because she was a super genius due to her status, she easily predicts that sooner or later, she will be swept up by the supernatural world. It doesn't matter if she likes it or not.

"Thank you for hearing my tale." The Arctic Fox started before it continues. "It is a pity that you won't take revenge after hearing the tragic fate of the Shirakami Clan."

"... I am sorry, I think I am not prepared to do that kind of bloody thing..." Ayumi replied in apology as she bowed her head in the fox's way repeatedly.

"Don't worry. I know I have already troubled you so much." The Arctic Fox said in dismissal.

And it was right. It was because she have the pendant that the two intruded on her house.

"Oh right, may I ask another favor before I leave."

"Yes... so long as it's not something violent..." Ayumi timidly suggested.

"Nothing of the sort. I just want you to put this on the Young Shirakami." When the Arctic Fox said that, it suddenly put it's claws inside it's body and then throw something in her way.

It was a ghostly Will-o-Wisp.

"That's a part of my soul." The Arctic Fox explained before she can ask what is it.

"... Why are you giving this to me?" Ayumi asks in confusion.

Somehow, she can hold onto the soul like it was natural. It might have something to do with her status or something.

"I want you to revive the Young Shirakami. It would be sad to see the family that took care of me come to an end. I wish for one of them to at least survive." The Arctic Fox stated with a sad tone.

She can feel the sorrow of the Arctic Fox as it uttered those words.

"... Okay, I'll try my best."

"Thank you." The Arctic Fox sincerely gave her it's thanks. "Now then, it is time for me to leave. I hope we see each other again, young one." The Arctic Fox said.

"Oh wait, what will happen if I revive her with this piece of soul?"

"... It would be unfortunate but she will forget anything about herself. She will regress into the mentality of a youngster." The Arctic Fox answered with pity.

"Is that so." Ayumi muttered to herself. "Oh right, who is she?"

"Hm? I think her full name was Shirakami Fubuki." After the Arctic Fox said that, it started to concentrate.

It closes it's eyes before opening it again. It's eyes now shining a mysterious light.

The whole room suddenly turned colder as the whole place trembles. And then, a rip in space appeared in the middle of the room.

After it was large enough, the Arctic Fox moves towards it. It's body is like it was being sucked inside the portal in the room.

"Farewell, Hoshimachi Ayumi."

"Wait! Are you serious that it was her name!?"

She tried to take some answer to him but she was too late as the portal fully sucks him before it instantly vanishes, like it wasn't there to begin with. The pendant where the Arctic Fox formerly resides is now just an ordinary old pendant.

She looks at the piece of soul that the Arctic Fox gave to her. Then she recalled what the Arctic Fox said to her.

"... Right, I think it was just a coincidence..." She said to herself.

Ooyada Hospital, Morgue.

"I didn't thought she really died." Ayumi monologues in a whisper as she sneaks into the morgue.

She just asks the reception where is the girl who was taken to this hospital and they said there is a freak accident that happened and the girl died in a bizarre way.

They won't go into details because they said it was very gruesome. Currently, they are on the process of looking for any relatives of her though it was getting hard because somehow, all of her relatives are dead a year ago.

Anyway, Ayumi knew that she was doing something bad. She doesn't know if it was a crime to steal a dead body but she will be doing that because she promised to the Arctic Fox.

"Uuuuu... please be a coincidence, please be a coincidence..." Ayumi kept repeating that to herself as she moves in the morgue while looking for the name of her target.

After awhile, she finally found the one she was looking for.

"Shirakami Fubuki... huh..." She muttered unconsciously while looking at the block where the dead body is currently contained.

She recalled that the girl who entrusted her the pendant is a black haired girl. Though she looks fair and she also looks like in her mid teens, she still thinks that it's a different person because of the color of her hair.

She can hear some people on the distance. It was very far so she predicts that it would take awhile before a person gets in this room.

So with a quick movement, she push out the block containing the dead body of Shirakami Fubuki.

"...!?"

And she was surprised to see her face.

Though she have a black waist length hair, she have an eerie resemblance to the one that she was familiar with.

"... Nope, still not believing..."

While trying to deny it, she took a glass jar with a paper slip sticking into it where the piece of the Arctic Fox's soul is contained.

She did that because she can't hide it with just her clothes. It just passes through her.

The glass jar is something she bought in her Vtuber Shop. It was a Soul Container which is just cheap. Only at 100 VP.

She quickly pops it out and hold the soul inside it before putting it on the chest of the dead body.

"... I think this is how it was done. My instincts was telling me that." She muttered to herself.

Then the soul slowly entered into the chest of the girl.

Then she heard a loud heartbeat. When this happened, the unconscious girl suddenly acquire some changes.

Her hair slowly turned snow white while some sort of protrusion appeared on some parts of her body. Her already fair skin became immaculate. Also, her broken body mended itself like time has just rewinded.

While all of this is happening, Ayumi was having her beliefs broken one by one.

"She is... really... ugh... this can't be a coincidence..."

In front of her is now a girl who have a white fluffy tail with a black coloring on it's tip, a pair of white triangular ears are poking out in her head, and she also have a beautiful face.

Just like how she remembered her when she watches some of her streams in her past life. The only difference being the clothes that she was wearing.

"... Fubuki-chan..."

Ayumi muttered while feeling somewhat surprised, happy, and also dumbfounded.

The girl was an exact copy of a Vtuber that was popular in her past life, Shirakami Fubuki.

She looks at her for a minute due to how shocked she is before she finally manage to snap herself back to attention.

"Right, I need to sneak her out of this place."

With that, she buys a black blanket in her shop (10 VP) and uses that to wrapped Fubuki's body before tying it up to herself. Now it looks like she is piggybacking her as she moves out of this hospital.

No one saw her as she goes out and moves go back to her house by just walking.

This ends the long day of Hoshimachi Ayumi.

This is the end of Arc 2 : The Shirakami Pendant

Sorry for the short chapter. But I think I put everything I want to put in this arc.

And yes, your amazing for realizing the hints that I've been leaving since the start of Arc 2. Yes, she is Shirakami Fubuki.

Now, before you throw whatever you are holding onto me, let me explain.

So like I said on Chapter 11 AN, I was planning to put Hololive in this story before I even wrote this. Like, I have become a large fan since I was exposed to Pekora (Yep, she is my first Hololive experience).

But I decided not to use them because I was scared I might not be able to do them justice. What I really mean about that is that I can't do them justice as a Vtuber.

Now what about as a character?

If I can't make it so some people are using them as their alter persona, why not use the character themselves?

And that's how it came to this. I've basically put them in this world as part of the Other Side. I don't know about the others but the members who are clearly not normal humans are part of the Other Side in this world.

So about the plot on Fubuki. In fact, I am still on a split decision on the chapter when I introduced the girl (Now known as the lovable cat... I mean fox).

At first, I was just planning to introduce the supernatural in this story. Like put some random conflict and then make something out of it. When the girl and the pendant was introduced though, I just got a brilliant idea. It is what you see what happened in the last three chapters.

I was planning whether to introduce the girl as Fubuki or introduce her as some other person. But when I read some readers WANTED to see Hololive, I lost to temptation and here we are.

So this is the result. She might have died but that's her human self. It is still messed up if you asks me (Because I am still thinking of introducing her as a different person when I wrote that scene).
