Hi, so here is another chapter! I am so pleased to be able to get this out for you! This is our final New York chapter cause we are now back to Chicago for the rest of this fic.
On another note, I will not update between now and Xmas Eve. As some of you know I tend to do a multiple update Xmas Eve and maybe even New Years Eve so while I will carry on this story expect two or three chapters on that day.
Disclaimer-Nothing here is mine just the character of Bridget.
I hope you enjoy this one, I found writing it was rather theraputic after all the trauma.
TRIGGER WARNINGS-For Bridget, Bob and a seriously pissed off Hank.
Please Read and Review.
Stand And Unfold Yourself
Chapter 16-The Wolves Are Always Out For Blood
As Intelligence and SVU hunts down the man who hurt their sister, Erin and Justin share complicated moments with Bridget who is beginning to realise the depths of how badly she was lied to. And then Bob Clinton walks in.
21st November 2014 (Night)
They were caught by surprise.
Jay watched as the older guy he was suspecting was Bob fell off his chair as Hank came towards him. Al had pushed past Benson saying they had to look for the boy and she had followed while Rollins and Amaro were dealing with the cameraman. Jay stepped backwards. He had meant what he said. It Hank wanted to put a bullet in this piece of shit's head for his daughter than justified or not justified Jay was going to lie under oath that it was legit.
He wondered if that was going to make him loose sleep at night but to be honest compared with some of the shit that he had been through in Afghanistan this was practically child's play.
"Bob Clinton"
"Who wants to fucking know?"
Jay could have laughed because this piece of shit had no fucking idea.
Hank gave a long, slow, terrible smile.
"I'm Bridget Voight's fucking Dad"
And then his gun came down.
"Hey Bridget. Tea"
Justin shot her a small smile as Erin came into the room and Erin shot him one back. Justin was sat on the chair his elbows on his knees playing with his dog tags and Bridget was curled up on Olivia Benson's couch her knees under her chin again. Erin had gone straight from the district to Meredith's. Al had told her and Lexie her eyes wide with shock had thrown some stuff into a bag for Bridget and so here Bridget was in Lexie's old grey jogging bottoms and a purple jumper that would have fit Lexie perfectly and yet was sliding off Bridget's protruding shoulder.
She was thin.
Bridget had always been thin, but she was starving thin. And Erin who grew up starving thin knew what that looked like. And she remembered what it felt like as well.
Bridget took the mug but crossed her legs under her keeping her whole body at the end of the couch. Justin shot her another smile.
"You sure we can't get you something to eat Bridget? You must be hungry? When was the last time you ate something?"
"Dunno" came the reply. "I don't…I can push the hunger aside"
Erin saw Justin close his eyes briefly.
"We can order something in if you'd like. You always wanted to try sushi"
Justin shot her a rather alarmed look.
Erin didn't blame him really though she thought he might be overexaggerating.
Sushi and the Voight family had a rather…contentious relationship. It had been funny growing up. Voight and Justin wouldn't touch it and Bridget had always wanted to. Camille and Erin had been on the fence but for that first birthday where Bridget had been missing and Hank and Justin had been in prison she had ordered sushi in from a place that she couldn't afford and had ate until she had cried.
She had actually liked sushi but the whole thing had made her laugh and then made her cry and it was back and forth and back and forth and she had been unable to go and see Hank for a week afterwards because she had been convinced that if she did he would be able to see it all in her eyes and that would set him off.
"Since when did any of you eat sushi?"
"Some of us still don't" Justin said looking alarmed. "Please Erin only speak for yourself"
Erin smiled and Bridget watched the two of them as if she was following a complicated tennis match that only she could understand the play of the ball.
"You two get along better" she said quietly. "When I…when I…"
"When you got taken" Justin said gently, Bridget nodded and they let her slide over the words.
"You two were fighting all the time"
Shit.
"Yeah well…a lot of things changed after you…got taken" Erin said quietly.
Bridget nodded though she still stared at them as if they were an amusing thing on the TV for a second longer.
"Yeah I heard" she said quietly.
Justin shot her a look but Erin shrugged. She too was unsure here, unfooted, she didn't know what to say so instead she went with her own brand of honesty and let the chips fall where they may come what may.
"Bridget I'm sorry"
Dark eyes met hers but Erin ploughed on regardless. She had been wating a long time to say this and she needed to get it right.
"I…I am so, so fucking sorry. I…I was right there I was in the house and I didn't think of you at all. I was so wrapped up in my own problems that I didn't see you struggling or see you dealing with Hank or see you deal with all of it. I didn't want to see it, you were a little kid and you needed someone to fight in your corner and I wasn't there"
There was a pause and then Justin muttered.
"Yeah me too. It should have never have gotten that far. I should have stepped in and—"
Bridget laughed.
Both of them look at her but she was laughing and Erin was torn between confusion and fear because yeah Bridget was laughing and it was the same laugh that she had, had since she was a child but she didn't know why.
"You two are ridiculous you know" Bridget said. "I didn't leave that night because of either one of you or because of Dad. I thought at the time…I just…I was coming back. I was coming back or at the very least going to Lexie's. And I had this plan that I was going to stay there, but…but you didn't make what happened happen. I'm just…Jeez Justin I'm just glad your alive"
Justin made a noise and his face spasmed and Erin deflected because while Jay was her partner now she and Justin had been the ultimate partners in crime and they had always had each other's back and that was not going to change now.
"Bridget…what did they tell you about me?"
Dark eyes met hers.
"Nothing"
"Then…then you didn't believe that I was out there looking for you?"
Bridget thought about it.
"I just…I don't know, I guess…it was dark Erin, it was really, dark and I just…there's bits of it I don't remember and bits of it I do and, I just remember thinking that you probably had a life and that you didn't want me in it"
Erin wanted to push, wanted to do more, say more but she sensed that Bridget had reached her capacity for it so instead she sat down on the couch and feeling brave took one of the girls hands in her own. Bridget watched for a second and then linked their fingers together.
It was not much.
But it was a start.
And then it was ruined.
"BRIDET…OH BRIDGET? HEAR YOU SURVIVED"
It was yell followed by an "Ouch" of pain but it was enough. Erin had not even managed to make it to the door before there had been a cracking sound. Bridget had dropped her mug and hot liquid was seeping all over the couch and on the floor. That had been the first thing, the second thing had been suddenly she was shaking so violently she was a vibrating blur and she fell off the couch landing on the floor her head between her knees.
Justin was off his chair in a heartbeat and caution be damned he had pulled Bridget off the floor and into his arms and Erin walked to the door watching.
She knew who it was before she even saw him.
This was Bob Clinton.
Erin was almost shocked to see that he was alive.
Benson threw him towards interrogation and Erin went to turn the intercom off. She didn't need to listen, she didn't want to listen and she didn't want to see.
There was a knock at the door and she saw Jay. Her jerked his head and she nodded gently opening the door and slipping out closing it behind her.
"We got the boy" was all he said, all he needed to say and Erin breathed out a sigh of relief. She would not admit to it even now, just how deeply she had been afraid that they would never find this kid.
"And the others?" she said looking at the guys Amaro was handcuffing to the chairs.
"Don't know much, they just do Bob's orders" Jay said in disgust. "He's your ringleader. Well one of them anyway. There's another we just..."
"Yeah"
"Good news is this guy will flip. You should have seen the look on his face when Hank introduced himself. He'll last five minutes with Hank looking at him like that"
"He's Hank now?"
"You were gone a long time Erin" Jay said with a lofty expression. "Things have changed"
"I was gone for fifteen hours you little—"
"Where's Dad?"
They both whirled around. Bridget was standing there. Jay took a step backwards to give her some room and Erin had never loved a man more.
"He's in the interrogation room" Jay said with a soft smile. "He's with…"
"Oh" she looked back to the glass and then bit her lip.
"What does he know?"
"Hank err…Hank didn't really get around to doing any talking so I don't think he knows that you are alive?"
Bridget shot a look at the interrogation window and then she nodded and when she looked back it was with a determined expression.
"Yeah well he's gonna"
And then she pushed past Justin went for the door in Benson's office and had opened it before Jay could even say "Oh shit".
Bridget stepped into the room slamming it shut on Justin's face.
Bob turned and then…
"How the fuck do you stay alive?"
"Because I bashed the fuckers head in with a lampstand you piece of kiddy selling shit"
Olivia Benson looked between the two of them and then stood up. Her Dad who had been watching from the wall hands shoved into his pockets (though she noticed with wry amusement that he still had his gun on his hip) pushed himself off the wall.
"Okay Bridget why don't we go back into my office and—"
"You told me they were dead"
"Yeah well…your fault really"
And that did shut Olivia Benson up. Bridget looked at the vile, pathetic little thing that had taken four years of her life and for once she wasn't afraid. She wasn't bone weary with exhaustion. She was alive, she was fighting. She was…shit…amazing what you could figure out in your head if you had a family helping you to sought through it.
"All you had to do was break and—"
But she had held up a hand.
"Shut up Bob I'm having an epiphany here"
"Don't tell me to shut up you little—"
There was a banging on the glass behind her and then she heard Justin's shout, it must have been a loud one if she could hear him through the glass.
"SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU BASTARD SHE'S HAVING AN EPHIPAHNY!"
"I'm gonna be okay" Bridget said quietly. She wasn't sure what she looked like when she looked at Bob again and he recoiled a little. Her Dad was watching her now coming closer but Bridget didn't care.
"One day…I am going to be okay" she said quietly. "Because I'm here, and you're here, handcuffed to a table and you know what they are going to do to men like you in federal prison? And I…I am going home. You're mark will become a scar, you will become a memory and I am going home, to my family. So you don't get to win here."
Yeah she might have stopped making sense a while back but it sure felt good to say it.
She took a step forwards grabbed his throat and put pressure on it just like he had done with her. She knew that her Dad had all put pushed Benson aside because…well…she had already killed one man and another was a hard order to get her out of but she grinned at the look of fear in the man's eyes.
"Your going to sit in a cage and be very quiet" she whispered. "And you are going to rot away in fear for the rest of your life and I…I am going to be fine. I am never going to be afraid of you again. So suck on that you piece of shit."
And with that she let go of his throat pushed her hands to the back of his head and slammed his head into the desk with a clatter that made everyone jump.
"Hank get her out of here"
"Yeah come on Bridget"
Her Dad was pushing her back but it didn't matter because she was going willingly now back out of the interrogation room and towards where Erin, Justin and Jay were all standing looking at the window and then at her. Even Uncle Al was at the door.
"Nice" Justin said appreciatively as the door shut.
"Real nice" Jay said nodding.
"Brilliant" Erin said smiling.
Bridget didn't know what to make of that. All she knew was that she was damn well going to survive this if it was the last thing she did.
She'd made a damn promise now.
There was only one more thing left to do.
22nd November 2014.
He'd sent Al and Jay home. Bridget had wanted to do this and he had wanted Justin and Erin to be here when she did it. Al wanted to see Meredith, Jay wanted to sleep and it was over.
It was such a mind-numbing thought because it wasn't. He wasn't naïve enough to know that it was over. Granted Bridget was coming home with him (there had never really been any doubt about that really) because the Manhattan ADA Barba had listened to the facts of the case raised one eyebrow looked Benson in the eye and gone.
"Are you kidding me?"
But he also knew that there was going to have to be therapy and school and settling Bridget back down and it was a long hard road.
But it was a road that three weeks ago he had never thought he would get down.
Coffee was shoved in front of him. Justin who was running a hand through his hair passed another one to Erin and then sat on the bench.
"How long we got you for?"
"Another six weeks" Justin said cheerfully. "MY CO has a daughter around Bridget's age, he get's it. Might have to do every shit job in the world for the next six months to make up for it but he gets it."
Bridget was sat some ways away and Jocelyn Cerpaski who was by far one of the bravest girls that Hank had ever met was sat with her. Bridget had wanted to see Jocelyn and once she had learnt what had happened Jocelyn had wanted to see her. They had air that needed to be cleared even if they were never going to see each other after this.
Hank understood that.
It was one door slamming shut for both of them.
And God knows they had earned it.
"You know" Erin said drumming her nails on the wood. "They name streets after politicians and highways after presidents and royals and yet it's the everyday heroes that get ignored. If she hadn't had found the strength to talk to you Justin then…"
"Don't remind me" Justin said flatly.
His phone bleeped and he answered it seeing Jay's name blazoned there.
"You in bed yet?"
"No"
And there was something in Jay's tone that made him straighten and the other two look at him.
"What?"
Erin turned to look at him her hand already on her phone.
"Andrew Llewellyn and the cop guarding him were just shot to death twenty minutes ago. Antonio's picking up Al and Adam, Kevin's already there and I'm on my way in as well"
Shit.
"Call Benson" he said to Erin, "Get me a status on Clinton, the guard and the two lackies. Now"
Erin was already dialling.
"Justin get your sister we need to go. Get Jocelyn too tell her we can drop her off wherever she wants to go if we need to but we can't stay here. Do it gently."
Justin was already off the bench.
He watched as Jocelyn shook her head. He had already suspected she wouldn't want a ride with them. This was a parting of the ways of kind and he could understand it. He had already given the kid a card. If she needed him he would be there but he never anticipated a phone call in the night like he had done with Erin.
"George was shanked in the showers at Riker's this morning" Erin said sharply. "Lackies were killed in the yard and Clinton's neck has been snapped. Nobody saw anything"
Typical.
"Shit" Erin said as Justin and Bridget came over. "Benson says the snakehead is in Chicago. The guy who runs this"
Yeah, yeah he was.
Bridget looked at him and Hank knew he had to drag her into this again.
"Jay" he said into the phone.
"I'm here boss"
"Tell the team I'm on my way"
And with that he hung up the phone.
And there you go, I hope that you enjoy this chapter and I will see you with the next few updates!
Next Chapter-Bridget is back in Chicago and trying to adjust. Lexie just wants to help, Meredith wants to fight, Al wants a quiet life and the race is on to find the head of the snake.
