~~~Chapter Twenty-One~~~
~~~Previous~~~
We look at the food sweatdropping causing Usagi to let out a laugh. "Come on, I know it looks bad, but I'm sure it tastes great." She takes a bite and we all turn to look at her. She swallows it and a smile appears on her face. "Delicious!"
We share a look before taking a bite out of our plates. "It's pretty good." Mamo-chan praises.
"It is." I agree softly.
Chibi-Usa, Selene and Teddy don't answer as they happily eat their food. Usagi holds up a peace sign. "All right! I guess I'll be fine tomorrow!"
"Usagi, you did pretty well." Chibi-Usa praises as we all eat our food.
Usagi's mothering instinct is getting stronger towards Chibi-Usa. They haven't fully awoken get yet though, just a little longer before they do I ponder with a soft smile.
~~~Present~~~
~~~Selena's POV~~~
Usagi and I get dressed, Usagi in a pink sleeveless top and green skirt and myself in my emerald green silk dress. I change Teddy into a gold t-shirt with red shorts and shoes and Selene changes into her purple kitten outfit.
We leave the house and meet up with Mako-chan and Minako-chan. Mako-chan is wearing her orange top and yellow trousers and Minako-chan is wearing her crème dress.
We make our way over to Rei's shrine and climb up the many steps.
"Have you three done any of your summer-break homework?" Mako-chan asks.
"Not yet," Usagi admits.
"I have done mine," I say softly.
"Where has the summer gone?" Minako-chan queries.
"Really, every summer gets shorter and the homework gets longer…" Usagi trails off.
We make it to the top of Rei's shrine, and we take shelter under a large tree. Minako-chan takes a deep breath. "It's cool here, I love it!"
"Isn't Rei-chan here?" Usagi questions as she looks around. "Chibi-Usa!"
We run over to her. "Chibi-Usa-chan, did you come up here to get cool?" Minako-chan asks.
"Yeah." Chibi-Usa agrees. "Rei-chan's not here."
Usagi, Mako-chan and Minako-chan let out a sound of surprise.
"Where's she gone?" Mako-chan questions.
"She's gone off to an isolated island to train." Chibi-Usa offers before throwing Luna-P in the air. "But I came to play with her because I had nothing else to do.
"A-An isolated island, you say?" Usagi exclaims.
"That means, a private beach to frolic on!" Mako-chan comments.
"I won't forgive her! I believed in Rei-chan!" Minako-chan says with a pout.
Usagi places her hands on Chibi-Usa's shoulders. "Chibi-Usa, you heard where Rei-chan's gone, right?"
She nods her head. "Y-Yeah."
Usagi lets her go and moves back. "All right, everyone let's go! Rei-chan's can't do something so desirable by herself!"
"Yeah!" Mako-chan and Minako-chan cheer as they throw their arms in the air.
~~~3rd POV~~~
On the beach, Rei is standing in front of the water in her Miko outfit. She takes a deep breath before opening her eyes. "So, because Usagi and the others aren't here, I can concentrate!"
She takes out a talisman. "Rin, Pyo, Tou, Sha, Kai, Jin, Retsu, Zai, Zen!" She jumps in the air and flips around.
"Rei-chan!" A female voice calls out.
Rei sweatdrops and falls from the sky and lands on her face.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
"Rei-chan!/ Rei!" We all call out as we run over to her.
Rei sits up and looks at us in surprise. "W-What?! What's this?" Tide comes in and covers Rei causing her to let out a shout as she gets very wet.
Rei let out a sigh but leads us to where she is staying.
"You should have told us about this great place before!" Minako-chan scolds.
Rei has taken on her Miko outfit and hung it out to dry. She is now wearing a purple t-shirt and blue shorts. Ami-chan is wearing a blue dress.
"Yeah, the water's so clear you can see the fish!" Mako-chan agrees.
"And the clear air! And these cookies are delicious." Usagi adds happily.
Ami-chan looks up from her textbook. "It's peaceful for concentrating on studying."
"Now, look, I am here for serious meditation and training. " Rei states.
"Ah, but we had a good reason to follow you. Chibi-Usa was lonely and wanted to play with you!" Usagi says before covering Chibi-Usa's mouth so she can't deny it.
"Oh, is that so, Chibi-Usa-chan?" Rei questions.
"She wanted to play with you, right?" Usagi queries.
"But first, Chibi-Usa-chan, you should finish your summer-break homework, right?" Ami-chan points out.
"I understand! When I'm finished, we'll play, OK?" Rei agrees. She nods her head and Rei turns to look at the rest of us with her hands on her hips. "So, Chibi-Usa is fine, but why are the rest of you here?" The girls' sweatdrop. "You're going to damage my sacred training."
Luna and Artemis lift the swimsuit that was in Rei's suitcase. "Sacred training, huh?" Usagi and Minako-chan questions dryly.
Mako-chan places a hand behind her head. "So, is swimming the best way for sacred training, Rei-chan?"
Rei blinks confused before turning to look at her suitcase. She sees her swimsuit and she rushes over. Luna and Artemis place it back in her suitcase and jump off when Rei closes the lid. "Uh, I just brought this for when I take a break!"
"Fine, fine. So, let's go swimming!" Usagi cheers.
"Let's go!" Mako-chan and Minako-chan cheer at the same time.
Usagi changes into a lilac one-piece with large pink flowers on it, Ami-chan is wearing a blue and white striped one-piece, Rei is wearing her red one-piece, Mako-chan is wearing a green two-piece, Minako-chan is wearing a blue top and skirt.
Chibi-Usa is wearing a dark pink one-piece with large yellow dots, a white bow at the top and white skirt along with her green floating ring which has large sunflowers on it.
Selene and Teddy are wearing the swimsuit that I brought them when I brought myself another one. Selene is wearing a purple two-piece that ties around the neck with ribbon in the centre of the bra and on her left hip and a light purple cover tied over with a ribbon on her left hip. Teddy is wearing red and gold swimming trunks.
I am wearing an emerald green two-piece with tassels in the centre of the bra and on either hip, an emerald green silk cover tied over the top and a beige sunhat with an emerald green ribbon and a lily on the right.
I take off my cover and hat and place them on the blanket where Crescent and Yue are sleeping.
"Blue sea!" Usagi cheers before we all go into the water.
"Wait, everyone! Don't go out too far, there are sharks!" Rei warns.
"We won't!" We call back.
We begin swimming around, Teddy and Selene next to me. It is calm and peaceful until Usagi pops up in front of Chibi-Usa. "What? Chibi-Usa, can't you swim? Show no mercy! There! There! There!" She splashes water at her.
"Stop it!" Chibi-Usa calls out.
Rei pops up the other side of Chibi-Usa. "What are you splashing Chibi-Usa for?"
"Yeah, you're so selfish!" Chibi-Usa states.
"For love and justice, Niagara Attack!" Rei calls out before both Rei and Chibi-Usa splash a lot of water at Usagi. Usagi falls under the water before popping back up.
I let out a soft chuckle as I leave the water along with Selene and Teddy. I walk over to the blanket and place my cover and hat back on before heading inside to help Selene finish her summer homework.
Ami-chan has the same idea and she ends up helping Chibi-Usa finish hers while Usagi tries to finish hers. While we were doing this Rei and Minako were under a tree and Mako-chan was fishing.
With the homework done, we play volleyball. Rei, Ami-chan, Chibi-Usa and Selene on one side with Usagi, Mako-chan. Minako-chan and myself on the other. Teddy is sitting on the blanket having a nap with Crescent and Yue looking after him.
After that, Rei, Chibi-Usa, Selene, Teddy and myself make sandcastles. "Great sandcastle!" Chibi-Usa praises Rei.
"Chibi-Usa, what else do you want to make? I'll help." Rei offers.
Chibi-Usa nods her head and they get back to work.
I let out a soft chuckle before going back to helping Selene and Teddy make their sandcastles, though Teddy is enjoying making them and then destroying them again.
~~~3rd POV~~~
"Chibi-Usa really likes Rei-chan doesn't she?" Ami questions.
"Rei-chan isn't annoyed by her." Minako-chan points out. "Selene-chan and Teddy really like Selena-chan too."
Usagi pops up behind them. "That's right! That's because they're both mean" Usagi states as she stares at Rei and Chibi-Usa. "Nee-chan isn't and neither is Selene-chan and Teddy.
Rei and Chibi-Usa make a big mount with a hole through it. Chibi-Usa looks through the hole and sees something. She lets out a soft gasp and stands up and looks at the water again. She tilts her head when there is nothing there.
"Something wrong?" Rei asks.
"Nothing." Chibi-Usa denies.
Rei looks towards the water but there isn't anything there.
"Everyone! The food's ready!" Makoto calls out.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
We all head back to see that Mako-chan had cooked some fish and other seafood. "Well, eat quickly!"
We eat some fish when Rei notices that Chibi-Usa isn't eating. "What's wrong, Chibi-Usa-chan? Aren't you hungry?"
"But I hate fish." Chibi-Usa states.
"Stop that, you haven't even tried it…" Rei scolds.
Chibi-Usa stands up. "I hate this! I hate it!" She drops the fish and it lands on the floor.
"Chibi-Usa!" Rei scolds.
Chibi-Usa picks up her float and walks off with a hmph. "I hate Rei-chan too!" She heads back into the water.
"Do you think I was too strict?" Rei questions.
Luna and Artemis walk towards us. "Ah, hot, hot, hot…how can you girls eat in this heat?" Luna asks.
"Huh? Where's Chibi-Usa-chan?" Artemis asks.
"In the sea." Usagi answers.
Crescent and Yue look up from the blanket and looks towards the sea. "She's not." Crescent comments.
We all get up and looks towards the sea to see that she isn't there. "She was just there…" Ami-chan trails off.
"Oh, no!" Mako-chan exclaims.
"She must have been swept away by the tide!" I comment worriedly.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Chibi-Usa still has her eyes closed and hasn't released that there are sharks swimming in the water underneath her.
Chibi-Usa opens her eyes and looks confused. "Where am I?" Her eyes widen when a shark fin goes past her and she sits up. "What was that? No!" She moves about on her float and falls off it and lands in the water.
She sinks deeper into the water when a dark figure, a creature swims towards her and take her back up to the surface.
The creature pops out of the water to show that is it a small dinosaur with green eyes and Chibi-Usa has her arms wrapped around its neck. Chibi-Usa coughs before looking up surprised.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
We all get onto a boat and Mako-chan drives it. "Mako-chan! You can really drive this well, can't you?" Usagi says amazed.
"I can do anything," Mako-chan replies.
"Is this okay?" Luna questions.
"Strange, she's not anywhere." Artemis comments.
Ami-chan looks up at Rei. "Rei-chan, can you feel Chibi-Usa-chan's presence anywhere?"
Rei has her eyes closed. "No, not yet."
"It couldn't be, was she eaten by a shark?" Minako-chan queries.
Usagi turns to look at her. "Oh, no!"
Rei sweatdrops and opens her eyes. "It's my fault. I scolded her." She clenches her eyes shut and lowers her head.
Mako-chan looks up at her. "No, it's mine. I made the food she didn't like."
"Hey, now is not the time to start blaming yourselves." Luna points out.
"Let's keep looking." Crescent offers.
"She has to be close," Yue adds causing Crescent, Luna and Artemis to nod their heads in agreement.
"Right." Rei agrees after letting out a sigh.
~~~3rd POV~~~
The little dinosaur swims with Chibi-Usa still on her back towards a cave, however, the sharks are following after them.
A shark catches up and bites the dinosaurs fin causing it to let out a pain sound causing Chibi-Usa to let out a gasp. "Now I'm mad! Luna-P Transform!"
Luna-P turns into a propeller. Chibi-Usa catches it and turns around. She lowers it into the water. "Knock it off!"
They are propelled through the water straight towards the cave. They make it inside but don't stop. Chibi-Usa looks behind her and lets out a gasp as they get closer to the cave wall. Luna-P turns back to normal and they slow down and come to a stop just as they get inside the cave.
Chibi-Usa looks at the dinosaur. "Thanks for saving me." The dinosaur lets out a small sound and Chibi-Usa looks around the cave. "Is this your house?"
Chibi-Usa gets off its back and looks through the hole to see a volcano and trees. She looks behind her to see the dinosaur licking its fin. "You're bleeding! I'm sorry, you got hurt trying to help me. Luna-P Transform!"
Luna-P turns into a first aid kit. Chibi-Usa catches the kit and moves closer to the dinosaur. She takes out a cotton ball and gently places it over his wound. She stops when it lets out a pain sound.
"Be patient! Next, I'll bandage it." She goes back to cleaning the wound. "But why did you save me?" She looks in front of her and sees a large hatched egg. "I got it! You're a newly hatched baby, right?"
The dinosaur rubs its face against her cheek. "You probably thought I was your Mama. It's too bad, but I'm not your Mama." She bandages its wound. "I'm your friend. Friend. There, that's all right." Chibi-Usa stands up. "Let's be friends for a long time, okay?"
They head outside and sit in front of the cave. "I wonder where your Mama is. I'd be relieved to know. My name's Usagi but everyone calls me Chibi-Usa." The dinosaur licks her cheek. "What's yours? Oh yeah, you're still a baby, so you don't have a name yet, right? Let's see. You have a long neck, so I'll call you Kirin-chan, okay?"
Chibi-Usa places her hands-on Kirin's neck. "Kirin-chan! Kirin-chan let always get along well."
~~~Selena's POV~~~
Usagi looks up from the water. "Oh, she's become shark food!"
Rei opens her eyes and looks at Usagi out of the corner of her eyes. "It's bad luck saying that. Chibi-Usa-chan is still alive. I know it."
Ami-chan stands on the steps. "That's right, Usagi-chan. Look at Luna, Artemis, Crescent and Yue…They're looking real hard."
I look at the four cats to see that Luna and Artemis are pale. "I'm going to be sick." I hear Luna mutter.
"I want to go home," Artemis adds.
They slide down, their claws leaving lines in the boat.
I sense movement just as something pops out of the water's surface.
~~~3rd POV~~~
"You know, a little while ago I had a big fight with my friends. but it's okay, I have you now, Kirin-chan! We're good friends, right?"
Chibi-Usa stomach lets out a loud grumble and so does Kirin's. "Wah, are you hungry? So am I."
Kirin drives back into the water and Chibi-Usa watches as he does. Fish is thrown out of the water and lands in front of her. "What? Fish?"
Kirin's head pops out of the water with a fish in his mouth.
Chibi-Usa picks up a fish and holds it in her hands. "It can't be helped."
~~~Selena's POV~~~
The sky begins to darken and we still haven't found Chibi-Usa yet. Minako-chan suddenly let out a gasp. "There's smoke!"
We all follow her gaze to see the smoke.
"Do you think it could be a signal from Chibi-Usa-chan?" Ami-chan questions.
"No, I think it must be the volcano." Mako-chan comments.
"Chibi-Usa…" Usagi mutters worriedly.
~~~3rd POV~~~
The smoke the girls were just looking at leads back to Chibi-Usa who has cooked the fish using Luna-P.
Chibi-Usa holds up a fish and looks down at it. "I wonder if it really tastes good."
Kirin chews on his fish before letting out a sound.
"I know, I'm gonna eat it, I'll eat it." She takes a bite and a smile appears on her face. "Delicious! It's delicious, Kirin-chan!"
Kirin lets out happy sounds which echo in the cave.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
Crescent, Yue, Luna and Artemis pop up their heads and look over the boat. "I wonder that sound was." Luna questions.
"You're imagining things," Artemis says.
I sense something under our boat when I see the cat's sweatdrop. "Artemis, Crescent, Yue, did you see that?" Luna asks.
"Yeah." The three of them agree.
"Maybe it's not seasickness after all…" Artemis trails off.
I watch as the same dinosaur pops its head out of the water's surface and look towards the island with the volcano.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Kirin is asleep with Chibi-Usa asleep against him. There is a sound and Kirin lifts his head to look. The island begins to shake causing loose rocks and stone to fall into the water.
Kirin lays his head back down while Chibi-Usa wakes up and runs her eyes. "I have to pee." She walks to the corner when a large dark figure appears. She looks and lets out a shout.
Kirin hears her shout and looks up.
"You're Kirin-chan's Mama?" Chibi-Usa questions.
Kirin's mama reaches out with her fin, wraps it around Kirin and pulls him over to her.
"Wait! Don't take Kirin-chan away!" Chibi-Usa shouts before watching Kirin being licked by his mama. "We're friends. It's good that Kirin-chan's with his Mama, but…Mama…"
Chibi-Usa is snapped out of her thought when Kirin lets out his squeaks and she looks to see Kirin's mama pulling him away again.
"Please! Don't take Kirin-chan away! Kirin-chan! Kirin-chan." Chibi-Usa lowers her head sadly.
Kirin lets out a squeak causing her to look up. Kirin swims back over and jumps at Chibi-Usa. "Kirin-chan!"
The volcano explodes causing the island to shake again. Kirin's mama looks up along with Kirin and Chibi-Usa. "What's that? An earthquake!"
Kirin's mama places herself over the pair of them just as a large rock falls loose and lands behind them.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
"Everyone! There!" Ami-chan calls out.
Rei's eyes narrow as she focuses on the island and she lets out a gasp. "I feel her! She's at the volcano!"
"That's terrible! It's going to explode in a minute!" Artemis warns.
"There's no time left!" Yue comments.
"Everybody, transform!" Luna and Crescent orders.
"Right!" Usagi and I agree.
"Moon Crystal Power Makeup!" Usagi and I call out.
"Mercury Star Power Makeup!" Ami-chan calls out.
"Mars Star Power Makeup!" Rei calls out.
"Jupiter Star Power Makeup!" Mako-chan calls out.
"Venus Star Power Makeup!" Minako-chan calls out.
"Sailor Mercury!" Ami-chan calls out.
"Sailor Mars!" Rei calls out.
"Sailor Jupiter!" Mako-chan calls out.
"Sailor Venus!" Minako-chan calls out.
"Sailor Moon!/ Sailor Celestia!" Usagi and I call out at the same time.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Chibi-Usa crawls out the hole and looks back at Kirin and his mama. "Kirin-chan and Mama!" Kirin is being licked by his mama again. Tears begin to fill Chibi-Usa's eyes. "Mama!"
More rocks fall and it covers the hole completely. "Oh, no! I'll save you now!" She moves rocks out of the way. "I'm sorry, you wanted to leave and I…No! You're my friend, aren't you? If you die I'll never forgive you! After you wanted to see your kind Mama!"
The volcano begins to explode as lava drips down the sides.
Chibi-Usa covers her eyes. "No!"
The lava drips faster down the side of the volcano and gets closer to where they are.
Rei, Mako-chan, Minako-chan and Ami-chan jump towards them. "The Sailor Senshi are here!" Rei lands next to Chibi-Usa.
"Wah! Damn! You always leave me out!" Usagi pouts.
"Burning…Mandala!" Rei calls out.
The attack hit the lava and splits it in the middle, so it is no longer heading towards them.
"Sailor Mars!" Chibi-Usa exclaims.
Rei reaches down and picks her up. "Everyone, give me a hand!" She jumps off.
"Leave it to us! Sparkling Wide Pressure!" Mako-chan calls out.
The ground splits and the lava goes down.
"Venus Love-Me Chain!" Minako-chan calls out.
She drags a rock over cutting the lava off.
"Shine Aqua Illusion!" Ami-chan calls out.
The lava is frozen in place.
Chibi-Usa looks up at us as tears enter her eyes. "Please, save Kirin-chan! Also, his Mama…"
"Kirin-chan?" Rei questions.
"He's a dinosaur! Behind those rocks!" Chibi-Usa adds urgently.
"Sailor Moon, Sailor Celestia, check!" Rei orders.
"Okay, leave it to us," Usagi says happily.
We jump down and peek through the hole to see Kirin-chan wrapped underneath his mama. "There!" Usagi exclaims.
"Sailor Moon, Sailor Celestia, hurry!" Ami-chan orders urgently as the lava gets closer once more.
"The lava will be here soon!" Mako-chan warns.
"Our powers are exhausted, you're the last ones," Minako-chan adds.
"Got it!" Usagi agrees as we share a look.
"Moon Princess Halation!" We both call out at the same time.
The rocks are destroyed and both Kirin-chan and his Mama rushes out and dive back into the water. The lava enters the cave just as they get away.
Chibi-Usa lets out a sigh. "Thank goodness!" She falls unconscious.
We undo our transformations and head back to the boat and Mako-chan quickly drives us away from the island.
Chibi-Usa stirs and we surround her as she opens her eyes. She abruptly sits up. "Kirin-chan? Kirin-chan's Mama?"
Usagi places her hands on her shoulders. "They're okay. The Sailor Senshi came. They saved them. Look." Usagi removes her hands and stands up.
Chibi-Usa follows our gazes to the right of the boat to see the pair of them. Chibi-Usa lifts her hand and waves with a smile on her face. "I'm glad!"
The pair of them turn to the right and swim off away from our boat. Chibi-Usa lowers her hand and places them on the boat. "I see. They're going."
"I think they're going to look for a quieter place to live." Ami-chan offers.
Rei places a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, you know it's for the best."
"Yeah." Chibi-Usa agrees sadly before tears fill her eyes. "Kirin-chan, don't ever be separated from your Mama."
Kirin-chan lets out a squeak causing the tears to leave Chibi-Usa's eyes. She waves at them with a smile back on her face. "Bye-bye, Kirin-chan! Rei-chan, I can eat fish now!"
"Oh? Really?" Rei questions.
"Yeah, Kirin-chan taught me," Chibi-Usa says happily.
"Well done, Chibi-Usa." I praise softly causing a large smile to appear on her face.
