Author's Note: I haven't done anything with this story in a while, but this idea has been bouncing around in my head so here it is. Hopefully it's not too terrible.

Disclaimer: Nope, they're not mine unfortunately.

Goodnight my angel, time to close your eyes

And save these questions for another day

I think I know what you've been asking me

I think you know what I've been trying to say

I promised I would never leave you

Then you should always know

Wherever you may go, no matter where you are

I never will be far away

It was three in the morning when he heard it. Grissom was in his home office looking over lab reports while Sara was asleep in their room. Taking off his glasses, he tossed them onto his desk as he got up and headed out of the office with Hank right behind him.

Walking into their room, he was relieved to see Sara was still asleep. She had been exhausted lately and he had to practically force her to lay down a few hours earlier. He walked to the corner of the room and found what had initially drawn his attention.

"Hey there, my little bug." Grissom whispered as he picked his daughter up from her crib where she was squirming around and fussing quietly. "Let's not wake Mommy, okay?"

Checking and finding the baby clean and dry, he and Hank carefully made their way out of the bedroom so Sara wouldn't wake up.

"You should be sleeping, little miss." Grissom smiled at his one-month-old daughter.

Despite all of the things he had achieved in his career, Elizabeth Marie Grissom would forever be Gil Grissom's greatest accomplishment in life. She had Sara's big brown eyes and dark hair. Grissom never failed to be amazed by the sight of his daughter. She was usually a quiet baby unless she was hungry or mad. He could tell by the temper she was starting to display that she was hungry.

"Guess it's time to eat huh, Bug?" Grissom made his way to the refrigerator and grabbed one of the bottles Sara had prepared before he forced her to go to bed.

Grissom warmed the bottle and then carried Elizabeth to the recliner in the living room as Hank climbed into his bed. Settling into the chair, he adjusted the baby in his arms and began feeding her.

Grissom loved these quiet moments with his daughter. Staring into her big brown eyes as she watched him, he was almost moved to tears. Before Sara, he had never imagined being a father. He was content with his life and his work and didn't think he needed anything more. Sara had changed him, had made him want more out of life. Running his fingers through his daughter's dark hair, he had never been more grateful for anything in his life.

Goodnight my angel, now it's time to sleep

And still so many things I want to say

Remember all the songs you sang for me

When we went sailing on an emerald bay

And like a boat out on the ocean

I'm rocking you to sleep

The water's dark and deep, inside this ancient heart

You'll always be a part of me

Once the bottle was empty and Grissom realized his daughter was not going back to sleep, he rose from the recliner and walked to his sound system.

"How about some music, Bug?" Grissom put Elizabeth on his shoulder and rubbed her back. "You want to dance with your old man?"

As Billy Joel's voice filled the living room, Grissom swayed back and forth with his daughter as he listened to her soft coos and gurgles. Her head was on his shoulder, watching her father with eyes that looked just like her mother.

"Dad's not too bad of a dancer, huh?" Grissom kissed his daughter's hair and inhaled her distinct baby scent.

Grissom felt her take a deep breath as he rubbed circles on her small back. He continued slowly swaying around the living room, noticing Elizabeth's eyes were finally starting to droop.

"You're so beautiful, Bug." Grissom whispered, seeing his daughter's eyes closed. "Just like your Mama."

Grissom was so enthralled by the tiny bundle in his arms that he didn't notice his wife watching from their bedroom door. Sara thought at one time that she would never be able to love Gil Grissom more than she already did.

That all changed though the first time she saw him hold their daughter after she was born. Watching Gil become a father was the most amazing sight Sara had ever seen. Like everything else he had ever done, Grissom had excelled at fatherhood.

As she stood and watched him slowly dance around their living room with their daughter securely in his arms, she felt herself fall even more in love with him. He loved watching Grissom with their daughter. Knowing that they had created a life together was the best feeling Sara had ever known.

Grissom was still swaying around with his daughter when he finally caught sight of Sara in the doorway.

"We didn't wake you, did we?" Grissom whispered so he didn't wake the sleeping baby in his arms.

"I rolled over and you weren't there." Sara shrugged. "I heard the music and figured you had Liz."

"Come join us." Grissom held his free arm out to his wife.

Sara smiled and made her way toward her husband and daughter. Grissom wrapped his arm around Sara, kissing her as she snuggled into his side as they began swaying together. Grissom watched his girls as Sara rubbed the sleeping baby's back.

"We did pretty good, huh?" Sara said quietly as she watched Elizabeth sleeping.

"That we did, darlin'." Grissom kissed Sara's temple. "She's the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen. Next to you, that is."

"I love you both, so much." Sara sighed as she rested her head on Grissom's free shoulder.

"We love you too, sweetheart." Grissom kissed her forehead. "Let's go to bed."

Goodnight my angel, now it's time to dream

And dream how wonderful your life will be

Someday your child may cry, and if you sing this lullaby

Then in your heart there will always be a part of me

Someday we'll all be gone

But lullabies go on and on

They never die

That's how you and I will be
