~~~Chapter Thirty-One~~~

"Sweet are works of art, nurtured by the dreams of young girls. And at times, even the sweet hearts of these girls who adore beauty will melt. Sweet sugar candies can melt away their heartache. But even those sugar candies sometimes melt."
"Um…I have no idea what he's talking about." Usagi admits confused.
"Melt…Mercury, try your attack." I order softly.
"Leave it to me!" Ami-chan nods her head.
"Marzipan!"
"Shine Aqua Illusion!" Ami-chan calls out.
Their attacks meet in the middle and slowly Ami-chan pushes her attack back and covers her completely with water, freezing her in place. The attack on the girls slowly disappear. "She did it! It melted!" Rei praises.
"You're the best, Mercury!" Usagi says happily.
"Marzipan…" She lifts her hand to throw another sugar light pink rose but it falls out of her hand and onto the ground.
"Now Celestia! Sailor Moon!" Mamo-chan orders.
"Yes!" We both agree.
"Moon Princess Halation!" We call out at the same time.
Our attacks hit and she turns to liquid before turning to dust. We sneak around the back to see a woman with green hair peeking through the door. "A proper lady should never peep," Mamo-chan speaks up.
She abruptly turns to look at us. "Oh, you guys are…" She looks at Mamo-chan and a sly look appears on her face. "Oh, my…You're handsome."
Mamo-chan backs away causing me to let out a soft chuckle.
"Hey, don't look at him like that! He's already taken by Celestia!" Usagi says in annoyance.
"So, you must have been the one who was controlling that monster!" Rei comments.
"Oh, so you're the sailor senshi's I've heard so much about." She replies. "Unbelievable! You're still flat-chested kids with no hips." She insults.
"Flat-chested?!" Usagi repeats before crossing her arms over her chest.
"Hey, old lady, I'd rather you described it as 'very firm'" Mako-chan states.
"Old? What did you say?! Old lady?!" She shouts. "Why, you! Just because I'm being nice. Okay, then!" We get ready.
"Listen carefully, you impudent brats!" She lifts her fan. "I'm a top leader of the Black Moon, a Clan of the Dark Moon. And I hold the highest position governing the twentieth-century world. All of the men in the world bow down to me, the most beautiful, powerful woman. Esmeraude, that is my name!" She laughs loudly causing us to cover our ears due to the noise.
"She's got a big attitude and a big voice." Minako-chan complains.
She stops laughing. "Just remember this, it will be I, Esmeraude, who will defeat you!" She jumps in the air laughing and disappears.
"Esmeraude…" Usagi trails off.
Selene and Teddy cling onto my kimono as Crescent and Yue sit at my feet.
"So, she's our new enemy." Mako-chan comments.
"She seems to be more powerful than Rubeus was," I add with a soft sigh.
More trouble to come our way with her on the scene I think with another sigh.
~~~Present~~~
I let out a sigh as once again Usagi gets up late making the pair of us late to school. We rush to school and rush through the hallway. Usagi is panting heavily as she runs. "I'm late again!"
As we get closer to our classroom door it opens. I slow down while Usagi looks with wide eyes as she continues running. "Whoa! Watch out!"
Umino, who has opened the door, looks in Usagi's direction. "Who?"
Usagi bangs into Umino causing the pair of them to fall. Usagi lands on her face while Umino lands on his knees, his glasses on the ground. Naru-chan pokes her head from around the classroom door. "Are you okay?"
Usagi slowly stands up and places a hand on the side of her head. "That hurt!"
Umino places his glasses back on and lifts his head. "S-Sorry…"
"Oh? What happened to our homeroom class?" Usagi asks confused.
"Oh, Ms Haruna is not here today. So even first period is study hall." Umino replies.
A relieved smile appears on Usagi's face. "So that's it." She laughs before stopping and looking down with a dejected look. "I wish I'd had another bowl of rice."
I look at Naru-chan and notice something in her hand. "Naru-chan, what is that in your hand?"
"It's a promise ring," Naru-chan states shyly.
"Huh?" Usagi says confused.
Umino looks at Usagi sweatdropping. "Usagi-san, you don't know what a promise ring is?"
"Pro wrestling?" Usagi states with her head titled slightly to the side. She places her hands on her cheeks before closing her eyes with a small blush on her face. "Kinky…"
"This is no good," Umino mutters sweatdropping.
We head inside the classroom and Naru-chan places two promise rings on the desk with different designs. One is yellow with a red and green line pattern while the other is pink with an orange and turquoise blue pattern down the sides.
"These are the promise rings that everyone's been talking about."
"Wow! So lovely! How do they work?" Usagi asks amazed.
Umino holds up a finger. "You make them one knot at a time while making your wish, and then you tie it around your wrist or ankle. Then, when they snap, your wishes are supposed to come true."
"It's very popular nationwide right now," Naru-chan adds.
Usagi looks around the classroom and I follow her gaze to see most of the females are either wearing one or are making one. Even a few males are wearing one. "You're right. I didn't notice everyone wearing them. I wonder if I should make one, too…"
"There are different ways to make them, depending on the wish." Umino holds up a flyer. "Oh, yeah, they opened a new specialty store in the Juban area."
Usagi takes the flyer and looks down at it. "Wow…"
"Not only do they carry embroidery threads, books, leather strings, beads and everything else needed to make the promise rings, but they also offer free classes to customers." Umino comments.
"They say that if you make one and give it to your boyfriend, you'll stay together forever." Naru-chan acknowledges.
Usagi's face lights up. "Really? Then maybe I should also…for my future boyfriend. Nee-chan, you should make one too for Mamoru-san."
"We'll see." I offer with a soft chuckle.
After school, we leave but Usagi seems to be daydreaming. "Usagi-chan! Selena-chan!" I hear two voice calls out.
I look behind me to see Ami-chan and Mako-chan. I look at Usagi to see she is still in her daydream. "Usagi-chan!" Ami-chan and Mako-chan call out again. Usagi snaps out of it and turns to look at the pair of them.
"What's wrong? Your daydreaming again." Mako-chan questions.
"Did something happen at school?" Ami-chan queries.
Usagi shakes her head. "No, nothing like that. Oh, yeah, I heard the Juban area has a new promise ring shop. Ah, Mamoru-san!"
I look to see Mamo-chan walking from around the corner. "Mamo-chan," I call out softly.
"Tia." He walks over and pecks my lips. "I'm busy at the moment so I'll see you later."
"Of course, I'll pop round later okay?" I agree with a soft chuckle.
Mamo-chan chuckles lowly before he walks off.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Esmeraude is standing in front of a tree looking down at the lake in front of her. She laughs loudly before she stops. "Our clan's Prince Demande poured bright red wine over this beautiful Crystal Tokyo. And I'm going to fill this crowded Tokyo with Dark Power."
An image of the past Tokyo appears in front of her.
"The new Negative Point is…" She trails off as she takes off her earring and dangles it in front of her. It glows and moves about before coming to a stop. "Over there." An image of a large building appears. A black hole appears above the same building and Esmeraude comes out of it. She throws her Dark Henge. It lands on the ground upright. Dark Power is released.
"Droid Udering!" Esmeraude calls out.
The figure appears and poses. "Udering!"
She has long purple hair with a turquoise section on the top of her head and pink eyes. she is wearing a yellow short-sleeved crop top, a white skirt with gold along the bottom in the middle, yellow high heels and bracelets around the wrists and ankles.
"This Tokyo is very crowded and suffocating. Make the Dark Henge's power grow as quickly as possible!" Esmeraude orders.
"Yes, Esmeraude-sama. Ring!" Udering disappears.
Esmeraude turns around with a blush on her face. "Prince Demande. I want to return to you soon. And I want to bury my face in your arms."
~~~Selena's POV~~~
As Naru-chan has already started her promise ring, I call Lunetta to see if she has. She hasn't. so I invited her to go with us. She is quick to meet up with us and we head to the building where the free classes are taking place.
"This is the 'Misanga's Mansion' that everyone is talking about," Mako-chan observes.
"A promise ring is a symbol of happiness. I'm sure your wish will come true." Ami-chan offers.
"Yeah!" Usagi agrees cheerfully.
"Usagi-chan, do you know the spell that will make you happy for sure?" Usagi looks at Mako-chan confused. Mako-chan holds up a finger with a smile on her face. "When you cast a spell, what's important, is that you believe in it. And the power of your belief will bring you happiness."
A blush appears on Mako-chan's face as she lowers her finger. "Of course, I just read that in a book. But don't you think that the power of belief can also cheer you up?"
A smile appears on Usagi's face once more. "Yeah! Thanks, Mako-chan!"
We head inside the store. I look around but I don't think I will be making a promise ring. I look at Lunetta. "Are you going to make one, Little Moon?"
She shakes her head. "No, I'll make something else later on. I need to go get what I need so I'll see you later Ane."
"Of course, say hello to the others for me," I call out softly as she leaves the store.
Ami-chan hands over a basket with all the material needed inside. "Here! These are the material you need to make a promise ring that will let you meet your future boyfriend."
"Thank you," Usagi says happily as she takes the basket.
Mako-chan holds out an arm to the side. "Here, the classroom is this way."
"Okay." Usagi agrees.
We walk over to the door and Mako-chan opens it. "Excuse me…" Usagi calls out hesitantly.
"Then, Usagi, we'll be over to the side okay? Just call me if you need anything." I offer with a soft chuckle as Usagi looks around nervously.
"Good luck." Ami-chan and Mako-chan encourage at the same time.
We all share a look before sharing a laugh. We calm down and Usagi heads inside while we wait for her.
~~~3rd POV~~~
The teacher, who has red hair and black eyes, turns to look at Usagi. "Is this your first time?"
"Usagi!" Naru calls out when she sees her.
"Here she is," Umino states.
"Naru-chan! Umino!" Usagi exclaims happily when she sees them in front of her.
"Are all of you friends? then, you can sit here." The teacher offers.
Usagi sits at the same table as Naru and Umino. Naru looks at her with a smile on her face. "I'm glad you're here. I was worried since you kept on daydreaming today."
The teacher points at Usagi's materials. "To make this ring, cut the string to ninety cm and make ten of these."
"Okay." Usagi agrees and follows the instructions.
The teacher gets Usagi started. "First, secure the strings with tape. Then, start knotting from the middle, as if you were writing the number '4'. Repeat this twice."
Usagi has a go. "Let's see, from the middle…" Usagi and the teacher sweatdrops.
"Maybe we should start with a simpler pattern." The teacher offers. Usagi nods her head. "There are six strings total. Start knotting from the left, as if you were writing the number '4'. See? Isn't this really easy?"
Usagi tries it but sweatdrops as she can't get it right. The teacher sweatdrops once more. "Everyone has trouble at the beginning. All right, then we will stop here for today. Everyone, please read the manual carefully and finish it at home."
"Okay!" Everyone else agrees.
Usagi just rests her head on the table sweatdropping. "What?! I have to read it?! What a pain!"
"Do you understand?!" The teacher yells annoyed.
"Yes ma'am!" Usagi replies sweatdropping.
They leave the classroom. "Okay, be careful on your way home." The teacher heads back inside the classroom. She closes the door and leans against it. A smirk appears on her face as she begins laughing. She lifts her hand and her bracelet glows. "Ole, ole, ole, ole! Udering!"
Esmeraude appears. "Udering, how goes the operation?"
Udering looks up at Esmeraude. "Everyone wearing a promise ring tonight will be corrupted. Ring! And the Dark Power will increase all at once, making the Dark Henge grow. Ring, ring!"
"Good, I'm counting on you." Esmeraude praises before chuckling.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
I sit in Usagi's room when I see movement near the door. I see Chibi-Usa, Selene, Teddy peeking through. "I wonder if she finished making the promise ring?
"Oh, she fell asleep!" Selene exclaims.
"I wanted her to make me a promise ring too," Chibi-Usa admits with a pout in her voice.
"She's probably tired from working on something new." Luna points out. "Let's leave her alone for a while."
"Yeah, you're right." Chibi-Usa agrees.
The four of them walk away. I look at Usagi and let out a soft sigh. I pick her up and place her on her bed. I let out a soft chuckle before leaving Usagi's room. I think I will go visit Mamo-chan since I have time to myself for a change I think with a soft chuckle.
I leave the house and head straight towards Mamo-chan's apartment. I knock on the door. "Mamo-chan, it's Selena."
The door opens and Mamo-chan is standing in front of me. "Tia."
He pulls me towards him causing my hands to land on his chest. I look up at him. "Mamo-chan." I lean up and peck him on the lips. He wraps his arm around my waist and he closes his door behind us. We head over to his couch and we sit down. I place my head against his neck while he keeps his arm around my waist. I let out a sigh as I get comfortable and close my eyes. Resting with Mamo-chan for a little bit will be wonderful. I think as I let out a soft yawn.
Mamo-chan pats my head. "Go for a small nap, Tia. I'll wake you up in an hour."
"Thank you, Mamo-chan." I close my eyes and let myself relax.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Mamoru looks down at Selena as her breathing shallows showing that she had fallen asleep. He closes his own eyes after setting an alarm for an hour later. He let out a sigh as he relaxed, enjoying the presence of Selena by his side, where she should be.
Unknown to Selena, not long after she left the house Usagi had woken up and got back to work on her promise ring, or at least try to complete it. Selene, Teddy and Chibi-Usa are sitting in the living room with Luna, Crescent and Yue watching Tv, giving Selena and Usagi some quiet time to themselves.
After half an hour, however, Selene and Teddy begin to miss Selena's presence, not used to being away from her for a long period. They go to Usagi's room and sneak a peek inside to see that she wasn't in there anymore. So, they headed to Selena's room and looked inside just to see that she wasn't in there either.
"She's not here," Teddy complains with a pout on his face.
"Maybe she went around Papa's." Selene points out thoughtfully.
"Then, let's wait for her outside," Chibi-Usa says from behind them, making the pair of them blink their eyes at her as they didn't realize that she followed them.
Selene nods her head. "Should we let Usagi know where we are going?"
"We should." Teddy agrees.
So the three of them do and they leave the house with Luna, Crescent and Yue following after them. Usagi wasn't listening to what they were saying and didn't click on what they said until they left the house. Her eyes widen and she abruptly stands. "Ah! No fair! Always getting my Nee-chan's attention. I'm going to." She puts on her shoes and rushes out of the house after them.
Usagi catches up and they get to Mamoru's apartment and sit outside on the steps.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
I feel a gently shaking of my shoulder and slowly stir and open my eyes to see Mamo-chan standing in front of me. "Mamo-chan."
"It's been an hour, Tia. You should head back home." Mamo-chan comments reluctantly.
"I know." I agree with a sigh. I stand up and we walk to the door. "I'll see you another time Mamo-chan."
Mamo-chan nods his head and pecks me on the lips before I leave his apartment and he closes his door behind me. I let out a sigh before walking toward the elevator and getting inside.
~~~3rd POV~~~
"Selena-chan sure is late." Crescent comments.
"Yeah." Usagi, Selene, Teddy and Chibi-Usa say at the same time.
Just then, the elevator doors open and Selena steps out. "Oh, here she comes." Yue acknowledges.
The four of them stand up. "Nee-chan!/ Nee-sama!" The four of them call out at the same time.
Just then, the promise ring that Chibi-Usa had in her hand begins to release dark energy. "Chibi-Usa!/ Chibi-Usa-chan!" Usagi, Selene, Teddy, Luna, Crescent and Yue call out panicked.
Chibi-Usa shakes her hand but the promise ring stays attached to her hand. "It won't come off my hand!" The dark energy increases causing Chibi-Usa to let out a scream of pain.
Just then, Selena comes through the door and her eyes widen when she sees Chibi-Usa in pain.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
"Chibi-Usa!" I call out before running towards her.
"Chibi-Usa-chan!" Luna calls out before she lunges forward. She bites onto the promise ring. She gets it off her hand and throws it to the ground.
Usagi kneels next to Chibi-Usa. "Chibi-Usa, are you okay?"
"Yeah…" Chibi-Usa replies weakly.
I look down at Luna. "Luna, what's happened?"
"All of a sudden, the promise ring…" Luna trails off.
"This is…Impossible! It can't be." Usagi mutters in disbelief.
I narrow my eyes. That promise ring…I look at Usagi who looks back in equal concern. I nod my head. Usagi stands up and nods back. "Luna/Crescent, Yue, take care of Chibi-Usa!/ Selene, and Teddy!" Usagi and I order at the same time.
"Wait!" They all call out but we ignore them and continue running.
~~~3rd POV~~~
~~~Ami's Cram School~~~
The males and females that are wearing a promise ring let out screams of pain as the same dark energy is released. One male tries to take his off. "It's not coming off!"
Ami abruptly stands and looks at Naru and Umino near the door. Naru is on the floor, though not in as much pain as the others due to Selena's choker. Umino is standing next to her. "Help!"
Ami opens her communicator bracelet. "Everyone, we're in trouble!"
"What?!" Rei demands, a she stands up from chanting in front of the fire.
"It's that new promise ring shop, right?" Makoto questions as she runs with narrowed eyes.
"I'll be right there!" Minako agrees, just finished having a bath and just wearing a towel. "Artemis, let's go!"
"Yeah, okay!" Artemis agrees as he rushes over.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
Usagi and I make it to the building where we went earlier and we lookup. "Usagi-chan!/ Selena-chan!" Luna and Crescent call out as they all follow us even though we told them not to.
"It was here, just as I thought." Usagi comments.
"Here is where the free classes for the promise rings are taken place. This is the only place where the dark energy must be coming from." I add.
"Moon Crystal Power Makeup!" Usagi and I call out at the same time.
We rush up to the roof and sense the dark energy from inside and hear a female voice. "Dark Power, increase more and more! Ring, ring, ring!"
Usagi kicks the door open. "We won't let you do that!" We shout at the same time.
"Who's there?! Ring?!" She demands.
"Wishing with each knot they make girls put on these rings to make their wishes come true." I start.
"But you imbued them with an evil power, that's unforgivable!" Usagi finishes.
"For Love and Justice, the pretty sailor suited senshi, Sailor Moon! / Sailor Celestia! In the name of the moon, we will punish you!" Usagi and I call out at the same time.
"Impudent little brats, this is what happens to anyone who gets in our way!" She lifts her hand. "One Ring Attack!" She throws an energy ring towards us and we hit it out of the way with our moon rods. "A diagonal pattern makes your dream come true! Ring!" She laughs. "The secret to successful magic is not to give up after one try."
She jumps in the air. "Two-Ring! For someone with no boyfriend, the heart pattern will be perfect!"
"How rude! I'll have one eventually!" Usagi yells with a blush on her face.
"Sailor Moon! Sailor Celestia!" Chibi-Usa, Selene and Teddy call out.
"Watch out!" Luna, Crescent and Yue warn.
We jump out of the way but Usagi trips and lands on the ground. "Ouch…"
"Pitifully easy. Here's the next one." She lifts her pinky finger and waves it around. "Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring!"
A rose flies by and shatter the energy ring. She looks in that direction with a glare on her face. "Who's there?! Ring?!"
The light shine to show Mamo-chan. "A promise ring is a ring of hope. Abusing the trust of beautiful girls. You have an ugly heart, Droid. I, Tuxedo Mask, will not allow it."
She laughs mockingly. "Did you say 'trust'? You're so naïve. What a huge joke!" She jumps in the air. "Three-Ring Thunder!"
She sends them towards Mamo-chan and he hits them away with his cane.
"For someone like you who want to make up with a friend, ethic patterns are the best!" She yells as dark energy surround the three rings and they are sent back to Mamo-chan.
"Shine Aqua Illusion!" Ami-chan calls out. The rings are frozen and they clatter on the ground.
"Sailor Mercury!" Usagi and I call out as we turn to look at her.
"I'm glad I made it!" Ami-chan admits with a smile.
"Then, Four-Wheel Drive!" She jumps in the air and releases four rings. "For you, who wants to beat a rival in love, a v-pattern will be the perfect thing! Ring!"
The three of us run with the ring following after us.
"Burning Mandala!" Rei calls out. The rings are destroyed. "Thank you for waiting."
"Sailor Mars!" Usagi, Ami-chan and I call out.
Udering scoffs. "Since it's come to this, I'll use my last resort!" She jumps in the air. "Five Ring-pic!" She throws them towards her.
"Sparkling Wide Pressure!" Mako-chan calls out.
"Venus Love-Me Chain!" Minako-chan calls out.
Their attached join and the five rings are destroyed. "We've arrived!" They call out at the same time.
"Shoot! Ring!" Udering curses.
Mamo-chan lifts his cane. "Now, Celestia, Sailor Moon!"
"Yes!" We both agree.
"Moon Princess Halation!" We call out at the same time.
"Ring, ring, ring, ring!" She screams before she turns to dust. The glass figurine loses the dark energy and shrinks before dropping to the ground. Esmeraude suddenly appears laughing.
"That's…" Artemis and Yue start.
"Esmeraude!" Luna and Crescent finish.
She waves her fan near her face. "You impudent sailor senshi, listen very carefully to me. Soon, the Dark Gate will open in Tokyo. When it does, the Evil Black Crystal's power will flood this place. Then, the Silver Crystals will turn evil and black, and the whole world will be surrounded by Dark Power and destroyed!" She laughs loudly before disappearing."
Mamo-chan looks down at me. "Celestia…"
"Yes?" I question softly.
"Protecting our beloved city and the future city, Crystal Tokyo, is the duty that has been laid upon us. No matter what kind of hardships stand in our way; we have to overcome them and keep going."
"Tuxedo Mask…" I mutter softly with a small blush on my cheeks.
Mamo-chan looks away. "Sailor senshi, let us continue to fight together. Goodbye." He jumps off.
I let out a soft chuckle. "I will see you all later," I comment.
"Have fun!" Usagi teases with a giggle.
I rush from the roof and following my connection to Mamo-chan, I finally find him looking out to the water. "Mamo-chan!"
He turns to look at me. "Tia!"
"Mamo-chan!" I call out once more as I lunge forward and wrap my arms around his waist.
He wraps his arms around me and gazes down at me with love in his eyes. "Tia!"
I slowly close my eyes and lean up slightly as I feel Mamo-chan lean down and place his lips on mine. I feel the moonlight shining down on us as my body relaxes in his arms.
