Chapter 39 : The Strangeness Of The Festival (2)
"Your Highness, the candidates have arrived in your domain."
"Good work! Then let us depart right away!"
"... You will go right away, Your Highness?"
"I have no intention to repeat myself. Let us make haste!"
"Of course, Your Highness."
'Mwahahaha! With my new heroes, I will claim my rightful title as the princess of this land! My kingdom will reign all over Tanegashima!~~'
It was nearing noon.
Ayumi was idly strolling Nakatane as she thought of how to meet up with Matsuri without making it awkward. She doesn't know their plan other than going to a camping trip.
What they are doing is not camping at all.
So Ayumi was wondering how to meet up with Matsuri. She can't just go to her class in a casual way. That would be too embarrassing.
But it seems like she will have a chance to meet her up unintentionally.
When Ayumi turned to a corner, she saw Matsuri going around the trinket stalls in her lonesome.
"What should be a good souvenir, I wonder?" She heard Matsuri mutter that to herself.
It took Ayumi a moment to be shocked, then another moment to wonder what her next action should be, before she finally decided to just talk to Matsuri like this.
"Good afternoon, Matsuri-san." So Ayumi tried to casually greet her.
Though it sounded a bit too neutral. She is too nervous, now that she notices it.
Ayumi, while her plan is meet up with Matsuri, is still not prepared to act too casually on her. She was still shy about it.
Matsuri perks up when she heard Ayumi calling out to her.
"Ayumi-chan!? What are you doing here?" Matsuri asks with a shocked expression.
It's just yesterday when she told her that she will go to Tanegashima. Now, she was surprised that Ayumi was in front of her somehow.
"... I was curious about the festival." Ayumi made a reason like that after thinking about it for a moment.
She can't say that she was here to protect Matsuri from the supernatural. She was sure the girl won't believe her if she said that.
"Wow! So you too!?" Matsuri said in excitement before she grabs her hand. "Then let's go together. It would be much safer if there is someone coming along with you." Matsuri said while the truth is that she was just happy to have a binding time with Ayumi.
She have some ulterior motive (which is impressing Ayumi) but she was also worried about Ayumi roaming the streets in her lonesome. Even if she was independent, she was still a child. Japan wasn't that peaceful enough to let a young girl roam around the street unattended.
Well, it was peaceful. There are just some cases where some pedophiles or creepy old guys are going around and guiding innocent children to their place to do whatever.
It was a common case too. Each year, there are thousands of cases of missing children in this country every year due to most of the families always letting their child go to wherever.
Anyway, Ayumi was pumping up her fist internally when Matsuri invited her to come with her. It essentially gave her the reason to be together with her.
Though, she was still curious about one thing.
"So, what happened to the camping trip?" Ayumi asks in wonder.
"Huh? Well... I don't know..." Matsuri answered in confusion.
"You don't know?"
"... It was confusing. Our teacher suddenly told us that we are supposed to attend the festival because the mayor wants us to participate on the Initiation Program." Matsuri was recalling that as she says that to Ayumi. "Well, it doesn't matter. The good thing is we will be staying here for the whole duration of this festival. Which means that I can experience what this festival is all about!" Matsuri shrugs and said that with a cheery tone.
Opposite of Matsuri's cheerfulness, Ayumi was very alarmed at her statement.
'That's not right... I might be basing this on my past life but my experience on school won't let outsiders interfere with it's activities. It would affect the students education if they let others get a say on our activities just because of some reasons like asking the students to participate in a festival.' Ayumi thought like that. 'Which means... something strange is happening!' Ayumi's mind goes through that conclusion.
She have an inkling that it have something to do with the supernatural side of this world.
Tanegashima was normally not a place for camping. This is her first time hearing that someone was going to camp here.
Also, camping trips in Japan usually goes on the nearest place suitable for it. Not somewhere that was pretty far for that place.
'Someome might be doing this behind the scenes. And based on my predictions...' Ayumi quickly took her time on thinking about it. 'The mastermind might be a part of the government. They might be working for someone else, or maybe they are doing this out of their own volition. Regardless, this incident involves Matsuri-san.' Ayumi's eyes grew colder as she thought about it. 'It really was a good thing that I came here. Without me, I don't know what will happen to her.' She thought in her mind.
She have decided. She will take care of the festival itself.
She doesn't know what is wrong with the festival but she knew it have something to do with the supernatural.
Forcing a school to book their camping trip on a distant place, then forcing them to participate in some sort of event from a "Local Festival". Only a person of power can do that.
'I'll make sure Matsuri can come back home in one piece!' Ayumi swears that to herself.
While Ayumi and Matsuri are roaming the streets of Nakatane and trying out anything that the festival can offer, Towa was just done explaining to Fubuki about everything on the Other Side.
"I am surprised... I didn't thought there are many factions on this whole world. I also didn't thought that Aqua is the leader of one of the strongest faction of the Other Side in this nation." Fubuki said her honest impression about the revelation.
"Isn't it amazing?" Towa said with a bright expression. "And I, Towa-sama, is part of that amazing group!" Towa said with a proud expression, though it quickly turned into a depressing one. "It would be much more amazing if Aqua will just believe us." She said with a defeated tone.
"... She really doesn't believe your claims?" Fubuki asks with a tilt of her head.
"Yes." Towa said in a depressed tone. "Even when she encountered the mythical beasts and a real god of destruction, she still doesn't believe that they are the supernatural. I am even amazed how much she can convince herself of that. I am sure a normal person will normally believe things when they see those extraordinary things in front of their eyes." Towa said while feeling bitter about Aqua's strange stubbornness.
"... Okay." Fubuki simply replied like that.
"That's the only thing that you will say...?" Towa asks as she looks in amazement at Fubuki's way.
"Well, I am more surprise at the fact that Halware is also a part of the Other Side. Now it make sense how they can create a dream game console like a Full Dive Technology." Fubuki said as she nodded to herself in acceptance.
"... That's what you are more concerned about?" Towa asks before she sighs in defeat as she saw Fubuki just being busy muttering about that game.
Then she looks at the outside and saw that it was going to be evening soon.
"They are taking too long. Just where did they go?" Towa muttered to herself in wonder as she thought of Aqua and the others.
"Isn't it about time that we go back?"
"Idiot, there is no way we will go back without getting what we came for!"
That was the conversation that Aqua and Shion was in currently.
They are now in front of the building of the JSIB Tanegashima Branch. It seems like they are planning to raid the place.
Their target is the person named Queen Doris. This person was suspected of taking Towa's pet guardian.
Having learned about her location thanks to Aqua, Shion decided to strike now before that girl escapes.
"So our enemy is a fairy huh... this is going to be complicated." Shion muttered to herself.
Fairies are a being of nature. They are a type of spirit that can cause many natural phenomena in their surroundings. They are also more proficient in magic and the nature of spirits.
Due to them being semi-corporeal, it was pretty hard to catch a sight of them. Those who see them will only have a brief view of them before they vanish.
They are also immortals. They can't die of age or if their physical manifestation was destroyed, they will just be reborn anew back to their place of origin. The only way to kill a fairy is to destroy the concept of where they originated, which is also hard to point out if the person who are facing them doesn't know where they come from.
There is also one way of eternally taking them out of commission, which is to destroy their soul. They are a type of spirit, so anything that can harm a soul is especially effective against them.
"I am surprise a fairy is our culprit in this mess. I didn't thought a fairy is still existing in this low concentration realm." Shion muttered that to herself with some amazement to her voice.
As she said, this world have a low concentration of the supernatural energies. It was to the point that even Shion and her friends, who are a denizen of the Demonic Realm, was greatly weakened when they came to this world.
It's a good thing that Aqua can somehow encounter a lot of things that involves the supernatural. This includes some artifacts that Shion and the others are currently in possession so they can display their prowess, even in a limited manner.
She was surprise because fairies usually lives off of the natural energies of the world, like mana and spiritual energy. It's impossible for a fairy to survive in a place deprived of this two essential energies at all. They will just be reborn on their place of origin due to dying to this kind of place.
"Fairies are supposed to not exist huh..." Aqua said that as she stares at Shion with half open eyes.
"... Are you doubting me?" Shion said as she glared at Aqua dangerously.
"No. I am not." Aqua just whistled as she muttered that while averting her gaze at her.
"This cheeky little!" Shion quickly bonks her on the head.
"Ouch! I told you that violence is bad you know!" Aqua said with some tears coming out of her eyes as she covered her head with her hands.
Aqua still thinks that Shion was just saying that randomly just to sound cool so she have a lot of reason to doubt her. She met with some people on Scotland who also claims to be fairies, so hearing Shion was just giving a contradiction to their delusional setting.
"Okay, let's stop with that." Choco said that with a clap of her hands. "We should start doing this before that child slips up on our radar." She muttered as she gazes on the building.
"As you say, Choco-sensei. We shall march on and begin our raid!" Ayame followed with that sentence.
"... So we will do this again huh... I wonder when did people like these become too flexible on their delusions..." Aqua muttered that under her breath as she followed her friends who are now walking straight to the building.
She was still curious how the other side just have the time to play with them like they are expecting it or something. They even say some things that Aqua can only find as nonsense.
She really doesn't know that she was fighting in a real supernatural battle.
Kiritsuba was just busy going around the files on his computer. The files are all about the things happening in Tanegashima.
That is when he felt some magic are being used inside this building.
"... Who is attacking us?" He muttered to himself with his gaze sharpening as he stops looking at his computer.
Besides him is Queen Doris. The fairy that Shion and the others are hunting.
"It seems like that Aqua Faction was the one who was attacking this place." Queen Doris said without feeling perturbed by it.
She was confident because she thinks Aqua is still in her control. With just a single order from her, she thinks Aqua will quickly change sides and do all of her bidding.
"Is that so. Then let us wait for them. It doesn't matter anyway because they now knew of our connection." Kiritsuba said in a calm manner.
"I just wonder how they found it out this quickly. Did they sense something different with their leader?" Queen Doris wondered to herself before she shrugs. "It doesn't matter. All we need to do is wait for them." She muttered to herself before she sneered. 'At this point, it would be a great sight indeed if I see her group going into despair when they see their leader doing anything I want. I also have a few tricks up my sleeves if something goes awry.' She thought to herself in anticipation.
It took awhile until they heard a commotion outside the office. And then, the door was slammed open.
From there, Aqua and her group entered. Behind them are the people working for Kiritsuba, all unconscious on the floor.
"Hello Doris-san!~ I hope you are not surprised at this entrance..." Aqua said in a greeting.
"Of course. We have expected this as much." Queen Doris replied in a mirthful manner. "Also, didn't I tell you to call me Your Majesty?" She asks with a sharp tone.
"Ah... right. That's the setting..." Aqua mutters to herself before she scratches the back of her head. "Sorry, Your Majesty!" She said in apology.
Which earns her a smack on her head with Shion's fist.
"Stupid! Why are you calling her like that!" Shion asks in anger.
"Fueee!? But that was how she preferred to be called when she is roleplaying! We can't just deny her wishes and make her cry!" Aqua explained as she covered her head with her hands.
"... Ugh, this idiot..." Shion muttered under her breathe before she glared sharply on Doris way. "So it's you huh. The brat who took Towa's guardian!" Shion said with a hostile gaze.
Doris just stared at her for awhile before she smirks.
"Oh my, so that naive devil is your acquaintance. What a coincidence. This might be how you discovered my connection with the Japanese Faction." She said with a certainty in her tone. "Regardless, you just came here to meet your deaths. Aqua-chan, may you please clean up this place of the pest that dared to interrupt our peaceful atmosphere?" She ordered that with a smug expression.
"Huh? What are you talking about?" Shion ask in confusion.
"You see, this stupid leader of yours have just accepted a Pact of Servitude in my name. She is essentially my slave!" She said in joy as she waits for the others to comprehend what she says.
She wanted to see how much they will despair as they learned that their leader was just another one of her pawns.
Though, it turned into a confused look as she heard Shion snorting. It's like she was looking at her like an idiot.
"What are you laughing at!?" Doris asks in a threatening tone.
"Oh, so you are also stupid. I wonder why you think you can control this airhead with that puny Geass of yours?" Shion asks in a smug tone.
"What do you mean?" Doris ask with a glare.
"Why would I say? It's much better if you just see for yourself!" Shion said that while looking smug on her way.
This causes Doris to become a bit miffed at the way she talks at her. She turned her gaze at Aqua and demanded of her.
"You! Kill her!" She ordered with an air of authority.
"Uhmmm... Doris-san. I think you shouldn't say those malicious words. Your still too young to utter those words." Aqua tried to say that with a gentle tone before she glared at Kiritsuba. "Hey you! Did you just teach her how to be like this!? Are you trying to corrupt her!?" She asks in indignation.
"... It seems like she was having another misunderstanding..." Shion heard Ayame mutters that.
"She is still a child! What will you do if she become a hoodlum! Are you going to take responsibility huh!?" Aqua said as she took a step forward.
"Impossible!? How did y-!?"
"Doris-san. Please be quiet for a moment. I'll make sure this guy turned for the better!" Aqua said in a righteous indignation as she took more steps towards Kiritsuba.
The old guy on the other hand was now looking at her with a much colder look. His fist are shaking in anger.
"... do you..."
"Huh? What are you saying?" Aqua asks as she took some heavy steps forward.
"WHAT DO YOU KNOW!"
But Aqua stops when Kiritsuba yelled that out in wrath. She flinched for a bit before she just stared at Kiritsuba's way.
"Do you know what I have to do just to give her the best environment that she have!? Do you know how much I am willing to sacrifice just for her happiness!?" Kiritsuba complained in a shout as he trembled in anger. "You wouldn't know a thing about what I experienced before it comes to this! I have done everything to make her happy!" He complained in anger.
"... Uh... okay, but I think your still in the wrong." Aqua said that while feeling a bit scared at his angry expression.
Kiritsuba thinks that Aqua was talking about his daughter. He was hit deeply by her words when she says how much he was willing to "Corrupt" his daughter.
His mind didn't get that Aqua was just talking about Doris because Aqua thinks she is just a young girl who was having that delusional phase. Doris was the one who offered something to him so he can make up with all of his regrets. So it would be more apt to say that Doris was the one who is doing the corrupting.
So for him, he thinks that Aqua was criticising his way for giving his daughter some fun. With the help of Doris, he knew that his daughter will be able to live happily.
He will do anything to make her happy.
"You dare!? You don't even have a daughter and you think you have the right to criticize me!?" So he lashed out in anger.
"Hey! No need to be so angry!" Aqua said in a panic. 'So Doris-san is his daughter huh...' She misunderstands once again.
"Aqua! We leave that old geezer to you!" Shion said to Aqua before she stares back at Doris. "As for you, you are going to tell us where is Bibi!" Shion said in a threatening tone.
"Tch!" Doris clicks her tongue before she jumps back.
"!? Wait!?" Shion quickly tried to move forward.
But Doris slowly vanishes into thin air. And small motes of light bursts out on the area where she vanishes before those too also slowly dims out.
"Ugh! I am sure she is still nearby! Let's look for her!" Shion and the others said that before they leave the room.
Aqua and Kiritsuba is the only one left in the room. With Aqua still determined to smack the head of the guy and make him reform himself.
'This guy was teaching his daughter those bad words... what if she learned something more dangerous?' Aqua thought to herself before she glared at him in determination. 'I should curb his delusions for a bit until he sees reality as it is!' She thought to herself before taking something out of her satchel.
That something is a blackish wavy blade with a hilt made of rusted gold and bronze. It was commonly called on some country as a "Keris".
Though it's blade is dull, Aqua will use it to just smack the old guy's head for a few times. She wants to discourage the guy to continue this role-playing nonsense for the sake of his daughter.
Kiritsuba also prepared himself to fight her. He place his hand behind his back where his gun is located.
In this state, this is where the two will start their battle.
While that is happening, Ayumi heard that her class was expected to gather on a plaza just before this evening.
Matsuri invited her to come along and so she took her offer.
When they got to the plaza, Ayumi saw all of Matsuri's classmates standing there. There are also the teachers of their school on the sidelines. There are also the other students from the other class who are also gathered there.
In the middle of this gathering, Ayumi was surprised on the people from there.
There are a group of girls much more shorter than her who are standing upright in their position. All of them are also cute in their own way. They are also wearing a sort of dress that seems to be made by nature itself.
In the middle of these group of weirdly dressed girls is a blonde haired girl, with her hair styles in ringlets. Her eyes have the color of the aquamarine. She was also dressed quite lavishly, like she was going on some sort of noble's party. She also have a crown of flowers on her head and her poise and expression exudes pure confidence and arrogance.
What makes Ayumi more surprised than their getup though, are semitransparent wings behind their back. They have two pairs of sharply sized wings that seems to be made of hazy light.
"Your Highness, all of the candidates are here now." One of Matsuri's teacher informed the blonde haired fairy.
"Finally, you have made this Princess wait a lot longer. The nerve of a human like you!" The girl muttered to herself in irritation before she took a confident pose. "But it doesn't matter! Being a benevolent princess like I am, I forgive your transgression!" The girl declared as she raises her hand in the direction of Matsuri.
"Wow! What a cute little girl!~~" Matsuri exclaimed in excitement as she saw an array of cute girls, her attention solely focus on the one proclaiming herself as a princess.
"Silence human! You have no right to utter any words until I say so!" She declared with an air of authority.
"Matsuri, please don't make Her Highness get angry too much." Her homeroom teacher chided her.
"Eh?" Matsuri can only look at them in confusion.
While all of this is happening, Ayumi was glancing on everyone in this plaza.
She noticed that all the students, the teachers, and even the crowd was acting like there is nothing weird at all. The crowd was just walking on the streets and just minding their own business. The teachers are looking at the fairy people in worship. And the students are also staring on the air like they are in a lucid state.
Ayumi quickly took her attention back to Matsuri and she saw that Matsuri was also slowly becoming slack in her stance.
She quickly probes her mind and uses her analysis. From there, she find out that some sort of hypnosis is happening in Matsuri's mind.
Ayumi quickly took care of it by using her Mental Control and returned Matsuri's coherence back.
"Eh... What is happening?" Matsuri asks in confusion as she looks around her surroundings again.
While that is happening, Ayumi's attention was now focus on the fairies.
'So this is what I am alarmed of... I am glad I am here.' Ayumi thought to herself as she stares at the one who proclaims herself as a princess. 'I will make sure Matsuri wasn't hurt by a slightest bit in this trip.' Ayumi swears to herself once again as she prepared herself to confront the little princess.

Hello, this chapter was supposed to be published yesterday but I got busy on my new game so... sorry about that.
As for that negative comment, I am sorry for not continuing my other stories. I know I am a jerk for doing that. Even if I say my true reasons, no one will believe it.
