Time passed by and Kakashi became use to having her around. Yuki always insisted on treating his wounds. Since he would fight to go to the hospital. But she always kept there place clean. She kept his tools stocked and in battle ready condition. While he was in the Anbu he wasn't really permitted to go home. But when Kakashi got a chance he would check in on her. Every time he found some food waiting in the fridge for him. Clean clothes set out and a restock of all his weapons.
He got done with a mission early and was permitted to go home. He barely cracked the door when he heard sniffling coming from inside. He heard the voice of the landlady.
"It's just a rumor Yuki. I'm sure He's just fine."
"You don't understand he hasn't been home in over a month. He never takes missions that last that long."
Kakashi's chest tightens in a form of pain at the sound of heartbreak in Yuki's voice. At the same time his stomach did summersaults knowing she was worried about him. He heard her sniffle again.
"I know he'll survive. I never doubt him. He always keeps his promise. But what if it's true? I can't deal with see him with someone else. I just can't."
He hears the older lady click her tongue.
"You love him. And I know for a darn fact he cares for you. That boy has been living here since he was very young. He never was happy about coming home until you moved in. And just that. You have turned this place into a home for him. So wipe those tears. I heard he is supposed to return today. He's going to be tired and I know he'll feel better seeing you smile."
Kakashi peeks through the crack to see Yuki wipe the tears from her eyes. He watches as she jumps up at the sound of a timer and pulls a fresh baked pie out of the oven. The smell wafts through the small apartment and through the crack in the door.
"You make sure to tell him how you feel and the good news. I have to go pull in the laundry. It is going to rain. I can feel it in my bones."
She opens the door and smiles at him. The Landlady winks at him then heads down to her apartment. Kakashi quietly steps in and shuts the door. He quietly moves up behind her. He pulls down his mask before he hugs her. Yuki gasps and drops the paddle into the curry she was stirring.
"I'm home Yuki. I'm sorry I've been gone so long."
He nuzzles his nose into her hair and takes in her family scent. She always smelled like a log fire, winter wind with a hint of apple. Kakashi felt himself relax completely. Yuki carefully but quickly turns in his arms and hugs him tight.
"Welcome Home Kakashi."
He could hear her sniffle again. He holds her a little closer to him.
"Yuki. I'm so sorry for being so late. I have a present for you."
"Later. I've made curry and a pie just came out of the oven."
