Chapter 41 : Their Reason (2)
July 2020.
"I am sure even if I am gone, no one will miss me." That was what the little Himeragi muttered to herself.
Born on June 2010, she was a girl who quickly lost her mother after she was born. With that, only her father was left.
But since the day she was born, her father is always gone due to work. Not having the time to even bond with her.
She was mostly left in a nursery where the people there will take care of her. When she became five, her father still left her alone because he was too busy taking his work seriously.
Not once did her father ever bonded with her. Not once did she even get close with her father for even a single day. She sees him for a bit but everytime she tries to interact with him, he will only give her an apologetic smile before saying that he is busy with work.
He basically neglected her.
When she was six, she started going to school. Her father still didn't come along with her because of his work.
On her first day, she was alone. When the parent's meet happened, her father didn't come. Even on her birthdays, he is still not by her side.
All because of his work.
She tried finding friends with her peers. But the other children are looking at her weirdly. They think she is a freak because she doesn't have any guardian coming along with her.
Children doesn't know how to hold back when stating their opinions. So they always call her an orphan. Or someone who even her family hates to associate with.
Being too young, it hurts her emotionally. She always came back home crying as those child just say whatever because they thought it was fun to do so.
She was always alone in her home. Her father was always busy on his work. And the people of her age are insensitive and always take a distance on her.
She was very sad. She was even asking to herself why she was born.
She just wanted to interact with someone. Someone to talk to and have fun with them. Just a simple casual conversation with each other.
But no one reaches a hand to help her. Even the teachers of her school are indifferent. They don't want to do something because for them it was troublesome.
Her whole life was spent being isolated. Not having anyone to lean on for emotional support.
Even the nursery that took care of her was irritated to her because most people there doesn't want children to be too naughty or energetic. They wanted the child there to be disciplined and always behave themselves. They just took her in when she was still an infant because her father paid a lot of money for them to take care of her.
It was the greatest nursery when he learned about it so he thought he can entrust her daughter to them.
Her father thought that he was giving her the best environment for her childhood. The best nursery. The best private school.
But he didn't get that a child like her will become a target of children's maliciousness and adult's cold indifference and neglect.
Due to a long time experience of being isolated and hearing the insensitive words of children of her age, her sadness turned into depression. Then her depression turned worse.
Until it comes to this point.
"I hope in my next life, I get a friend..."
With that, Kinsaku Himeragi ended her life.
"Uh... what is happening here?" Matsuri asks that in confusion as she looks at her classmates. "Why do they look like they are daydreaming?" She muttered to herself while feeling worried about their state.
As she was busy trying to comprehend what is happening on her surroundings, Ayumi was confronting Himeragi.
"Himeragi-san, can you please stop doing this?" Ayumi tried to say that first.
She knows it won't work but she wants to end this peacefully without this ending into a conflict.
"Human! You have no right to call me by my name! Rectify yourself immediately!" Himeragi demanded in a haughty tone.
"... Okay, Princess..." Ayumi muttered in resignation.
"Good!" Himeragi said to herself with a proud expression.
"Anyway Princess, I have a question. Why are you doing this?" Ayumi tried to point the topic to her desired one.
"What?" Himeragi was very surprised when she heard Ayumi's question. "How did you not know!?" She asks in honest confusion.
"... I just got here." Ayumi gave that kind of weak reason.
But it seems like Himeragi quickly took her reason as the truth.
"I see! Then, this Princess will educate you about this glorious occasion!" She said to herself before poising in a theatrical manner. "This is the Ikusa Rei Matsuri, an occasion dedicated on the selection of my champions! Every year, I will show my glorious self to mortals like you so I can choose my champions." She announced it all proudly.
"... What do you mean by that?" Ayumi asks with her eyes narrowed a bit on her way.
Ayumi thought that the festival was all about thanking the elders and their teachers. How did a selection of her own personal army became a part of it, is what she is wondering.
"Huh? Isn't it obvious?" Himeragi said with tilt of her head. "The Ikusa (師) Rei (礼) in it's term said it all, isn't it?" She said while looking at Ayumi like she was an idiot.
Ayumi quickly process the words that she stated before she finally gets it.
'I see... so it's not really a Teacher's Gratitude Festival (Ikusarei Matsuri), it was the Army Ceremony Festival (Ikusa Rei Festival)!' Ayumi thought to herself in realization. '... What a way to botched Japanese words...' She added internally.
The word Ikusa (師) and Rei (礼) have a variety of meaning. By just separating those two words, there are many ways to translate these two Kanji.
By taking into account about all the meanings of those two words, Ayumi finally realized what this festival is all about.
'This is not a festival. This is a conscription!' Ayumi thought with that kind of conclusion.
Army Ceremony can also be considered as an alternate saying of a cadet graduating to become an official soldier.
Basically, Himeragi was essentially taking people from this festival to become her soldiers.
And taking into account that the three cities are having this festival at the same time, she can make a jump in her logic to make a logical theory about what is happening behind the scenes.
'She holds Nakatane as her territory. It is also logical to think that Nishinoomote and Minamitane are also being managed by someone that was like her.' Ayumi thought to herself. 'It is also possible that they are doing this for something. Maybe as a hidden battle between themselves. Maybe they are accumulating an army in preparation of something?' Ayumi continued in her conclusion.
"I have said my piece! So this Princess demands you to stand on a distance!" Himeragi said that with an overbearing tone.
"... No, I think you should stop doing this." Ayumi countered as she stood upfront, showing an undaunted figure.
While her objective is to just make Matsuri have a safe experience with this trip, she also felt that it would be too heartless if she just took Matsuri and forget about all of this.
The event was taking place in front of her. She have the power to stop it. Why would she turn her back on this situation if she can do something about this?
She have decided to change herself. One of those things she wants to change is her trait of always running away at any problems.
And while she doesn't care about the other people, she still cares about those she knows. Matsuri was almost conscripted by this mysterious festival. What if someone she knew got involved with this thing again without her knowledge. It will make her regret passing the opportunity to stop this at this time.
So she decided to stop it now before she regrets not doing so.
"Hmph! You really dare defy my order!?" The princess was honestly baffled at the sheer audacity of the hooded human in front of her. "I see, you might be that Queen Doris' spy!" She made her own conclusion before pointing her hand at Ayumi. "If that is so, this Princess demands that you be captured! Seize her, my loyal army!"
With that order prompting them, the alignment of fairies standing in a row finally moves. Their hands materializing a long spear with some flowers and vines covering it. Then they pointed it at Ayumi.
The teachers and the controlled students also stared at her way. Along with it are also the crowds who were just minding their own business. They also look at Ayumi in hostility.
'... All of them are in her control as I expected.' Ayumi thought to herself as she narrowed her gaze. 'I need disable their hypnotized state!' Ayumi declared internally.
"W-what!? What is happening?" It seems like Matsuri is still becoming confused about the eerie atmosphere that suddenly covered this whole plaza.
Ayumi focuses her mind and then tries to probe the minds of all of the people in this plaza. Using her Analysis, Psychokinesis, and Multitasking, it became possible for her to probe all of their minds and get a detailed inspection of their state. Using her Mental Control, she counteracts their hypnotized state and forcefully put their minds back to normal.
"Huh!?"
"What!?"
"Where am I?"
"Hm!?"
Every person on her vicinity stated their own variation of surprises as they look around themselves.
While that is happening, the fairies surrounding Himeragi panics for a bit before they raise their hands.
Ayumi predicted that they are going to hypnotise the surroundings again, so she quickly stops them telekinetically.
"Ah!"
One of the fairies exclaimed in suprise as her hands suddenly became heavy. It was also the case for every fairies on the surroundings. It felt like their body was being hold by the gravity itself.
The crowd are still confused about their surroundings while all of this is happening.
'If the people here learned about the supernatural, will I get in trouble?' Ayumi thought to herself as she notice the people trying to comprehend what is happening.
She knew that the supernatural side of this world likes to hide their existence. It was to the point of not finding any traces of their existence even on the most protected servers and sites on the internet. This indicates their seriousness about staying hidden.
She was worried that the whole supernatural side might become hostile to her if she their existence to the public.
She doesn't know how strong she is so she thinks she can't handle all of the supernatural groups of this world.
'I need to isolate this incident.' Ayumi thought to herself before she opens some portals to take these fairies on the other area where it is uncrowded.
But it seems like she was a bit too late as she felt her hold on the fairies vanishing. She take a look and saw that all the fairies, along with Himeragi became motes of light before that too vanishes in the air.
"... Tch!" Ayumi can't help but click her tongue in dissatisfaction.
The people seems to have not noticed that because they just shrug their shoulders before continuing to whatever they are doing.
'I need to find them quickly and end this first before it causes another problem!' Ayumi thought to herself as she tries to track the fairies.
She tried analysing every little thing on the whole Nakatane. This is to ensure that nothing will be missed by her.
She analysed everything, inspecting every small and large things in this whole place to see any traces of where they escaped.
"... I see it!" She muttered to herself after acquiring a track for them.
Based on her analysis, there is a gathering of light coming just at the outskirts of this city. Inferring that the lights must be those motes of lights that the fairies turned into, she thinks that is where they will appear next.
All of this took her a second to do.
She glances at Matsuri for a bit before turning her attention back on the direction where she felt the fairies will appear.
'I can't involve Matsuri-san anymore than this!' She thought to herself before she rushes out of this place while making sure that she wasn't notice by anyone.
While this is happening, Matsuri's classmates have noticed the brunette looking at them with a weird expression. They called her out to ask what is happening in this place.
"... Ah? I also don't know..." Matsuri honestly answered.
Then she looks around her and notice that she can't see Ayumi anymore.
"... Where did she go?" Matsuri ask to no one in confusion.
After they rematerialized on the outskirts of Nakatane, Himeragi quickly showed her dissatisfaction with a tantrum.
"Why did you force me to flee!? We should have taken the head of that impudent human!" Himeragi said angrily as she kicks the ground in anger repeatedly.
"Your Highness, we can't do that! That human is dangerous!" One of her fairy attendants says that with the other fairies nodding along with her words.
"Cowards!" Himeragi said in anger. "I am the greatest fairy leader of this land! No human is stronger than this Princess!" Himeragi proclaimed to them while puffing her chest in a proud manner.
"I see..."

The fairies jumps in fright as they heard Ayumi's voice just besides them. Quickly turning around while taking a distance, they saw Ayumi standing there.
"Y-you... How dare you make me utter those unladylike scream!?" Himeragi pointed her finger at Ayumi as she tries to take her bearings back.
"I am sorry for doing that." Ayumi apologized first before she goes back to the topic at hand. "Anyway, I really suggest stopping what you are doing." She says with some pleading in her tone.
She doesn't want to fight. She really wants to finish this in a peaceful manner.
"Huh? What are you inferring?" Himeragi asks in wonder. "Are you inferring that I, this Princess, was forcing those humans to join my glorious army!?" She said as she fumed in anger.
"Yes." Ayumi answered in a straight manner.
"How dare you! This Princess won't resort to that unsavory tactic!" She denied that while fuming at the thought of doing that. "The people of Nakatane naturally came to my side to be personally hailed as my champion! It is a tradition that have been done since the birth of the Army Ceremony Festival!" She declared in a proud tone. "Don't you dare accuse me of that barbarism!" She added in indignation.
Ayumi was honestly affected by her anger. She doesn't want to anger a child or any person if she can help it.
But she tries to just take on her words. She wants to finish this without showing her cowardly self again.
"... But they are being brainwashed to come to you." Ayumi stated the fact as her counter to her words.
"Lies! This Princess did not partake on a senseless activity such as that vulgar brainwashing that you are accusing of me! It is my natural charisma that they gather to my side like a moth to a flame!" She denied her words.
"But..."
"Silence! I have enough of your lies!" Himeragi glared angrily at her. "I call upon my warriors to come to my aid! [Inkall Helten]!"
With that declaration, a large magical circle appears on the ground in front of them. It shines brightly for a bit before it slowly dims.
From there are a group of humans wearing some sort of armor and other types of medieval weaponry which seems to be made of some sort of silver, with some flowers and vines covering some of their gears.
There are fourteen people in total. And they are currently looking at Ayumi and preparing their stances to fight her.
"These are my best champions personally chosen by my great self!" Himeragi boasted proudly. "They have been bestowed my greatest creations in my life! You will bear the full brunt of my wrath with their prowess! Now, tremble in fear human!" She narrated like that with an overbearing attitude.
While she was boasting about all of her champions, Ayumi quickly analysed them and was surprised about what she learned.
'They are just under her hypnotism!' She thought coldly. 'But I think she was honestly believing in herself that she wasn't controlling them. Then, who was it?' She thought as she looks at her surroundings.
From there, she can see the fairies escorting Himeragi who are having an awkward look on their faces.
'... So they are the one who are doing it!' She thought to herself.
Then she took her attention back to the fourteen people who are brandishing their weapons to fight her.
'This is surprising but all of them are wearing Mithril made armaments. Their weapons are also made of Mithril and something called an Ent's Root.' She was interested at those things.
Then one of the guy whose appearance was like those typical full plated warriors on RPG, attacks her with a downward swing of his sword.
Ayumi tried to stop him by pushing him down to the ground with a telekinetic force. She strengthen her hold for a bit because she thinks the person wearing those Mithril armaments are stronger than her.
But it seems like it was already more than enough as all of the fourteen warriors slammed on the ground. All of them are smack either face first or their back first on the ground, with all of them having their bodies spread in all directions like they have been flattened.
Ayumi quickly stops doing that. Though it seems like the fourteen people on their armor became unconscious because of the strong impact that they felt when they hit the ground.
It was a bit fortunate that only some of their bones are just broken. They are still alive.
"... How!?" Himeragi asks with a dumbfounded look.
Ayumi quickly repaired their bones and also recovered them to their normal self by simultaneously using her Analysis, Psychokinesis, Mental Control, and Multitasking. She was also stepping forward to get closer to Himeragi.
The other fairies tried to touch Himeragi so they can flee using their dematerialization. But Ayumi also took hold of each of their molecules that makes their physical bodies, causing them to freeze in place. She makes sure that she didn't stop the bare necessity functions of their body so they can survive even if most of their organs are completely halted.
As to why Ayumi did this, she thinks that they are turning themselves into light. By holding each molecules of their body parts, she thinks she can prevent them by turning into light. Even if they turn into light particles, she thinks she can hold their light form to prevent them from escaping.
This causes the fairies to be only be able to breathe and move their eyes. Anything else was frozen stiff.
Only Himeragi was spared on this terrifying display of power.
"I'll say this once again, please stop doing this conscription." Ayumi said to the girl with a bit of force on her tone.
Himeragi looks at the fairies that was along with her. She saw them frozen on the air like they are suspended in time. Then she turned to her champions. They are just lying on the ground in a 大 form.
She turned her attention back to Ayumi again with a defiant expression.
"Hmph! So it is still up to me to take care of everything!" She said before preparing herself to fight. "Then I, Princess Himeragi, will personally fight you. You should be honored that you will witness this Princess' prowess!" She stated proudly, although her legs are trembling in fear. "Here I go!" She stated as a form of encouragement to herself before focusing her powers to attack Ayumi.
Though, Ayumi simply disabled her by sweeping her legs with a weak application of telekinetic force.
"Augh!?" Himeragi cried in pain before her face planted on the ground with a groan.
Ayumi winced a bit because of the sound of the impact. She said a quick apology on Himeragi in her mind.
"Uuu..."
"... Uuu?" Ayumi wondered what she is uttering.
"Uuuuuuuuwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"
And suddenly, Ayumi was shocked when Himeragi suddenly cried in tears.
"UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" She cried a bit strongly.
Ayumi panics, her hold over the fairies and the recovery of the fourteen humans were forgotten as she became flustered about the crying girl.
"UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... hic hic... Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!" And the little princess is not even stopping on her crying.
Due to not noticing that her hold from the fairies are gone, Ayumi was surprised when felt the glares on those fairies.
She looks at them and saw them glaring at her in hostility.
"You! You make Hime-chan cry!?"
"Your evil!"
"Enemy of all girls!"
"Let us take her out!"
"Destroy her!"
In childish fury, all those fairies attack her simultaneously with their magic.
"W-wait... I didn't meant to do that!?" Ayumi quickly gave her reason while raising her hand in defeat.
But those fairies didn't bother to hear her reasons as they attack her with weird forces of light and the watch of nature itself.
The ground splits apart, tornado suddenly manifested itself on the air, flames bursts forth everywhere, and the clouds gathered to create a storm with it's lightning targeted only at her way. Along with it are the curses of the fairies themselves, stating her misfortune starting this day until the day she dies.
But Ayumi prevented all of those disasters from happening. As the ground splits apart, she also repaired the ground in it's molecular structure, which makes it as if nothing happens at all. She reversed the current spin of the tornado until it came back to the skies. The clouds was parted by her. And the fires were taken out by throwing all of the particles that makes that fire out on the space. It all happens in a single moment just after the fairies have caused it. She only uses her Psychokinesis to make this all possible.
As for the curses, all of it are ineffective. This is because of her Essence which also makes her resistant to anything that is supernatural.
Misfortune and curses is a form of a supernatural phenomena after all.
After doing that, Ayumi retaliated for a bit by bonking them on the head with a weak application of her telekinetic strength.
"Aw!?"
"Bah!?"
"Iyaaaa!?"
"Ouch!"
"Ow!?"
All of the fairies cried in pain as they hold their head with both of their hands. Then all of them teared up for a bit as they glared at Ayumi.
"I told you that I apologize!" Ayumi was honestly apologetic to what she did.
Though because she was becoming a bit flustered about this, her control of her Essence slips up for a bit.
This causes the expression of the fairies to change into that of fear. Then, they cried in despair.
This causes Ayumi to become flustered a lot more as she saw all the fairies crying and calling for help. They don't even have the heart to flee because Ayumi already showcases her capability to stop them before they have the chance to do so.
"... Ugh, I knew this will be troublesome..." Ayumi muttered to herself with some regret in her voice.

Sorry for the long delay. I have become busy because of the Christmas events on my new games!
Anyway, I have decided to end this chapter on that part. Next chapter is on Shion's side and their battle against Doris. That will be pretty long because some of Doris' secrets are hinted at what Himeragi have.
