~~~Chapter Thirty-Nine~~~
~~~Previous~~~
"Wait, Sailor Moon. It's still dangerous! Come back!" I call out worriedly.
Usagi looks back and waves her hand in dismissal. "Oh, it's fine. Don't worry." The smoke disappears and the dragon is glaring down at Usagi. Usagi panics and turns around but she falls to the ground. The dragon moves closer to her. I rush forward, grab Usagi and jump back her to where the others are.
"Let's do it!" Rei orders.
"Okay!" Ami-chan agrees.
"Burning Mandala!" Rei calls out.
"Shine Aqua Illusion!" Ami-chan calls out.
Rei's attack hits the dragon's chest and Ami-chan's attack freezes its tail. The dragon lets out a roar. The ice shatters from around its tail before it opens its mouth and breaths fire back at Rei and Ami-chan. The pair of them dodge out of the way but land on the ground. "It's no use! There's no end to it!"
Ami-chan looks back at Rei. "Are we just not powerful enough to beat it?"
"Don't give up!" Mamo-chan encourages. "Remember what the King said! Ascertain its true form! And believe in the power of justice!"
"Ascertain its true form?" Ami-chan repeats.
"That dragon's true form is…" Mako-chan continues.
"A person's heart." Usagi finishes.
The dragon opens its mouth and releases fire towards us. "Watch out!" Mamo-chan calls out as he pushes the three of us out of the way. "Let's do it, Celestia! Sailor Moon!"
"Yes!" Usagi and I agree at the same time.
Mamo-chan jumps in the air and releases a rose. It embeds in the gem inside the crown. The gem shatters and energy surrounds the dragon causing it to let out a roar. Mamo-chan lands on the ground. "Now! Don't hesitate, Celesta! Sailor Moon!"
"Yes!" Usagi and I nod our heads.
We get out our moon rods. "Please, Moon Rod."
"Moon Princess Halation!" We both call out at the same time.
Our attack hits the dragon and it crumbles to dust. Esmeraude appears with the same crown.
"Esmeraude…" Usagi trials off.
Esmeraude's body disappears, leaving only the black crown behind. The crown begins to fall before that too disappears.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Esmeraude lets out a scream as she falls into a black void and disappears.
Elsewhere, Prince Demande has his eyes closed after taking a sip of his wine.
"Prince Demande…" Her voice mutters.
Prince Demande opens his eyes. "Esmeraude…"
In the base, Artemis is cheering. "They did it! They did it, Luna! Crescent! Yue!"
King Endymion walks in.
"King?" Luna questions.
He looks at Selene and Teddy and lets out a sigh of relief before looking back at the four cats. "Small Lady has disappeared. There is no sign of her anywhere in the Crystal Palace."
"What?!" The four cats exclaim as they share a look.
With Wiseman, he is still in the same place as before. "So, Esmeraude has fallen. Well, that is all right. My true objective is not the victory of Black Moon, the Dark Moon clan. Both Saphir and Prince Demande will eventually end up sacrificing their lives for a greater purpose." Dark energy surrounds him. "The power which I truly desire is already in my hands."
A female chuckling is heard, the same chuckle Esmeraude heard but dismissed.

~~~Present~~~
~~~Selena's POV~~~
We all split up when we find out that Chibi-Usa has disappeared. Selene and Teddy stay in the Crystal Palace where they are safe.
We call out her name but there is no reply. We all meet up in the middle of the garden.
"Did you find her?" Usagi queries.
"No, I can't find her anywhere," Rei replies.
"I can't sense her either," I add with a worried sigh.
"Could the enemy have…" Mako-chan trails off.
We all go silent and share a look. Mamo-chan is the first to break the silence. "Anyway, let's split up."
"Let's search some more." Minako-chan orders.
We all nod our heads in agreement. "Right."
We turn and split up in different directions.
~~~3rd POV~~~
~~~With Wiseman~~~
Chibi-Usa is floating in the air in front of Wiseman, who is looking up at her. "Memories of an abominable past leave scars upon the heart. Small Lady, recall your mean spirited mother and your cruel father."
She gets drawn back into her memories. Her mama, papa and herself are walking while it is raining. Her parents are sharing an umbrella while she has her own. Chibi-Usa is laughing happily when she comes to a stop when a frog jumps in front of her. "Oh? It's a froggy!" She runs towards it laughing.
"Small Lady, you are going to trip." Her mam warns softly.
Just then, she lets out a yell as she trip and begins to fall forward, her umbrella falling out of her grasp. She lands on the ground causing her mama to let out a gasp. Chibi-Usa lifts her head as her parents walk around and stop in front of her. Her mama crouches down. Chibi-Usa begins wailing loudly. Her mama holds up a finger. "Now, this is what happens when you don't listen to your mama."
Chibi-Usa wipes her cheek with one of her arms before she begins crying again.
"Don't cry!" Her mama scolds.
Chibi-Usa stops crying as her mama stands up. "I hate you, Mama!" She turns to her papa and holds out her hand. "Papa, help me up."
"Get up on your own." He scolds.
Chibi-Usa looks up at him with wide eyes.
"Your parents do not reach out to help you. That is proof that they do not love you." Wiseman comments as he has the Dark Power surround Chibi-Usa as it warps the memory she is seeing.
"It's your fault that you fell." Her mama says with a glare on her face.
"Now, get up!" Her papa orders.
Tears fill Chibi-Usa's eyes.
"Recall the numerous hateful encounters." Wiseman continues.
Chibi-Usa gets drawn into another memory. She is overlooking the city when Sailor Mars, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter and Sailor Venus walks over to her. "Oh, Small lady, you look so sad. What's wrong?" Sailor Mercury asks.
Chibi-Usa looks up at her. "Well, today is my birthday."
"Birthday?" Sailor Mercury repeats.
"Oh, that's right." Sailor Venus acknowledges.
Chibi-Usa turns to look at them with watering eyes. "But Mama and Papa have both gone far away because of work!"
Sailor Mars leans down slightly. "It can't be helped. They both along with your oba and oji have left on important kingdom business."
"They probably won't make it back today." Sailor Jupiter admits.
Chibi-Usa lowers her head as tears fill her eyes. she places her hands over her eyes and begins crying.
The sailor senshi share a look. "Then, why don't we do the birthday…" Sailor Mars starts.
"Mars!" Sailor Jupiter scolds as she places her hand over her mouth.
Sailor Mars looks at her. "Oh."
"You can't." Sailor Jupiter states.
"I'm sorry, I'd forgotten." Sailor Mars apologizes.
"Well, goodbye." Sailor Mercury says before the four of them run off in the other direction.
"See you later, Small Lady." Sailor Venus calls out as they do.
Chibi-Usa watches in silence as they do before coming out of the memory. "They all…They all…They all just ignored me. And no one celebrated my birthday."
"It seems that you remember now. No one loves you!" He states.
"I…" The four sailor scouts images appear in her mind. "…am not…" Her papa image appears. "…loved…" The image of her mama appears. "…by anyone."
"Turn your hatred upon this world." He orders.
The tears disappear from Chibi-Usa's eyes and they narrow.
"Destroy the entire world, which is filled with hatred; and seal it away into the darkness. With hatred in your heart, when you receive the power of the Evil Black Crystal, the world will fall." He continues as her eyes slowly go blank.
Wiseman looks up and his eyes glow. His crystal ball suddenly glows and energy blasts from it. The Dark Power around Chibi-Usa surrounds her body. Energy surrounds her and her body changes from a child into an adult and her hair grow long. Her gold crescent moon is now an upside-down Black Moon.
Chibi-Usa opens her eyes before a smirk appears on her face.
She looks like a grown-up version of herself. Her hair is long, reaching below her waist. She is wearing a long black dress with a slit on each side. The sleeve and chest portions are organdies. The fabric of her skirt is the same colour as her purple-pink shawl that is around her arms. Her sleeve cuffs and collar have diamonds on them. She is wearing a pair of red satin high heels and black crystal earrings.
Energy surrounds hers which causes a column of energy to appear behind Prince Demande who is sitting on his throne. Wiseman suddenly appears in front of him with the dark Chibi-Usa. "The opportunity is upon us."
"Wiseman!" Prince Demande calls out surprised.
"The servant of our Evil Black Crystal; one of the Rabbits, has obtained a rare power and has become the Queen of Darkness," Wiseman adds.
"What?" Prince Demande looks at her surprised. "You are one of the Rabbits?" He notices the mark on her forehead and his eyes widen. "The mark of our clan!"
She lets out a chuckle. "I am Black Lady."
"Demande, immediately go to the Earth of the past." Wiseman orders. "Once Black Lady's evil black power has manifested itself, you are certain to be able to take control of Earth."
Black Lady laughs before she and Wiseman disappear.
Prince Demande snaps out of his shock with their disappearance. He clenches his fist. "Finally, the time to get back at the Earth has come. The time for revenge has come!"
Saphir appears to the side. "Nii-san. You should be wary of Wiseman. Wiseman used Esmeraude and that is why she died. I can't help but think that."
"Used her?" Prince Demande lets out a scoff and moves his head to the side. "Ridiculous!" He lifts a clenched fist. "Because of the people on Earth we had no choice but to live in this desolate place. If I can wreak my revenge upon them, I will not begrudge the loss of life, no matter whose it is!"
"But Nii-san, there are many aspects of Wiseman that cannot be trusted," Saphir states as he walks towards him.
"That is absurd!" Prince Demande denies. "Wiseman has provided us with much information and the energy of the Evil Black Crystal. If I cannot trust him, who do you expect me to trust? Look at this, Saphir." A hologram of the sailor senshi of the future appears. "Those four sailor senshi are doggedly interfering with our attack. We'll never get anywhere at this rate. In order to take control of Crystal Tokyo, we are better off destroying the world of the past."
Prince Demande stands up and looks at Saphir. "One of the Rabbits has become Black Lady, a servant of the Evil Black Crystal. We should not let this opportunity slip by. I will travel to the past Earth and establish the Dark Gate together with Black Lady."
Prince Demande reaches up with his hand and brushes Saphir's bangs out of his face. "So, Saphir, protect the reactor and increase the Evil Black Crystal's energy until the Dark Gate has been opened."
"Nii-san…" Saphir trails off.
"Do you understand?" Prince Demande queries.
Saphir nods his head. "Yes."
~~~Selena's POV~~~
"What?! Chibi-Usa travelled through space-time?!" Usagi exclaims surprised as Pluto gets ahold of us via a hologram.
"It appears that immediately afterwards Demande also headed for the Earth of the past."
"Demande did?!" Mako-chan questions.
"To the Earth of the past?!" Usagi repeats.
"Small Lady did not seem to be herself," Pluto admits.
"What?!" Usagi exclaims with wide eyes.
"How so?" I query.
"Something bad must have happened to Small Lady. Please quickly return to the past Earth." Pluto orders urgently. She points behind us.
We all turn to look. A fog appears and the same door we used to get here appears. The door opens and a bright light shines on us. We share a look before rushing inside. I close my eyes briefly as I think back on what Mamo-chan asked Pluto and how she replied.
"Sailor Pluto, please tell us. Just what happened between now and when we become King and Queen's and build Crystal Tokyo? What in the world was the calamity that befell Earth?!" Mamo-chan asks.
"You have all seen a part of the future now. But learning of the future is something you must not do. What is important is that you anticipate a bright future and live firmly in the era that you inhabit now." Pluto replies.
I open my eyes just as we make it to the end. I look around to see that we are inside a park. I let out a sigh. Hopefully, Selene and Teddy will be safe in the future in the Crystal Palace.
Usagi looks around, Luna-P in her arms. "Where are we?"
"We're back in the Juban area," Luna replies as she looks around.
Usagi looks up at the sky. "You're right! The moon looks so beautiful!" Usagi closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. "And the air is so refreshing. Peace is so wonderful."
Rei lowers her head as she removes her gaze from the sky. "We have to protect this world."
Usagi removes her gaze from the sky and nods her head. "Yeah."
"We have some investigating to do." I point out, getting their attention.
Ami-chan nods her head. "We have to investigate what Demande is plotting in modern-day Tokyo."
"And we have to find Chibi-Usa, too," Usagi adds. Usagi closes her eyes briefly before opening them and looking back at the sky, determination in her gaze. Please be all right, Chibi-Usa.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Elsewhere, Black Lady is standing on a roof while Prince Demande is standing on top of a lamp post. "Now is the time for the revenge that I have dreamed of for so long." He mutters.
He takes off one of his earrings and holds it out in front of him. Dark Power forms at the bottom before entering the ground below. A black crystal forms where the energy hits.
Black Lady holds out both her hands and releases Dark Power from them. It hits the black crystal. The energy enters the crystal and it grows until it is over two stories high.
Energy begins forming in the sky above the black crystal.
~~~Selena's POV~~~
We abruptly turn when we sense evil energy. We see energy forming in the sky.
"That's an evil energy!" Mamo-chan exclaims.
"Does the enemy intend to create another Dark Gate?!" Artemis queries.
"We can't let them!" Usagi cries.
We share a look before we rush out of the park. We get near the exit but have to stop when Dark energy suddenly forms in front of us. "What's this?!" Usagi says after letting out a gasp.
The energy slowly disappears to show a female. "I won't let you pass beyond this point."
"What?! Who are you?!" Usagi questions surprised.
"I have been given a new life by Wiseman. I am the Queen of Darkness, Black Lady!" She states proudly.
"Black Lady?!" We all repeat.
Luna-P's antenna begins to beep.
"With the power of the Evil Black Crystal, I will turn this Earth into a world of darkness." She continues.
Luna-P hovers in the air in front of us before floating over to Black Lady and stopping in front of her. A smile appears on her face. "Oh, Luna-P. I see you remember me." She hugs Luna-P to her chest. "You are my one and only precious friend."
I narrow my eyes before they widen. I look at Usagi when she lets out a gasp. "Don't tell me you're…" Usagi trails off.
"Chibi-Usa?" I finish.
She lets out a laugh. "There was once a time when I was called that."
"It can't be!" Mamo-chan denies in surprise.
"It happened to you once, Mamo-chan." I point out softly before letting out a sigh.
"No way! No way! How could Chibi-Usa have changed like this?" Usagi questions in disbelief.
"If you can't believe it, I'll use Luna-P to make you believe!" Black Lady comments. She throws Luna-P to the ground. Luna-P bounces back up and turns into an umbrella. Black Lady opens the umbrella and it spins. It spins slowly before spinning faster and it releases Dark Power and it sent towards us.
We are hit and are sent backwards and we land on the ground. Mako-chan gets to her knees. "What incredible power."
Minako-chan lifts her head and looks up at Black Lady weakly. "Chibi-Usa-chan, what in the world is this about?!"
"I will not forgive you!" Black Lady says angrily.
"Something's wrong. Those eyes… Those eyes…She's been brainwashed!" Rei points out.
"Brainwashed?" Usagi repeats.
"Her mind is being controlled by the bad guys." Ami-chan acknowledges.
"What should we do?" Usagi asks worriedly.
Black Lady releases Dark Power from her umbrella again. I close my eyes briefly before opening them. My eyes flash as energy surrounds my hand. I hold my hand in front of me and slap the Dark Energy away from us, causing it to destroy a tree.
Usagi looks at Black Lady. "Please stop this! Why do we have to fight?!"
"I hate those who have slighted me! I hate all living beings in the world!" Black Lady states with a glare on her face.
"Those who slighted you?! Who did?!" Usagi questions.
"Everybody!" Black Lady shouts.
"That's can't be true!" Usagi denies. "Chibi-Usa, your mama and papa, oba and oji and everyone else around you loved you."
Black Lady closes her umbrella. "That love was meaningless and false!" She lunges towards Usagi, the umbrella spinning like a drill. Usagi jumps out of the way and the umbrella embeds in the ground, causing a crack. She lunges after Usagi again and Usagi jumps out of the way.
"Sailor Moon, you can't just keep running away." Luna scolds.
"I can't fight against Chibi-Usa!" Usagi denies without hesitation.
Black Lady hovers in the air. She opens the umbrella and a sharp tip appears from the top. She sends one after the other towards Usagi. Usagi dodges back each time but she trips and lands on the ground after she dodges the last one. Black Lady sends more towards Usagi and she rolls out of the way until she has them surrounding her body, trapping her in place.
"Die!" Black Lady lunges towards Usagi, her umbrella back to being shaped like a drill.
"Usagi!" I call out as I run towards her.
Luckily, a red rose flies back and it knocks the umbrella out of her hand. The umbrella turns back into Luna-P. I let out a sigh and rush over to Usagi and help her stand up before looking at Mamo-chan.
"Even a lovely flower will soon wilt if a poisonous energy eats away at it. Chibi-Usa, you have been possessed by an evil energy. Do not be deceived by it! Open your eyes!"
"So, you all intend to gang up against me?" Black Lady queries. She throws Luna-P at Mamo-chan.
Mamo-chan moves his head to the side and Luna-P flies past. "Celestia, Sailor Moon, use the Silver Crystal's power to eradicate the evil energy possessing Chibi-Usa!"
"All right!" Usagi agrees before looking at Chibi-Usa. "Small Lady, you've been corrupted by the evil energy." Usagi clutches her brooch. "Please be refreshed!"
"Moon Crystal Power!" Usagi and I call out at the same time.
Black Lady closes her eyes and places her arms over her face to block out the light from our Silver Crystal's.
"Chibi-Usa, you've become confused! Remember when you were young! Your mama and papa were kind to you, I'm sure of it!" Usagi encourages.
~~~3rd POV~~~
Black Lady's eyes widen as she gets drawn into another memory.
"Mama, Papa, where are you?" Chibi-Usa calls out as she runs through the halls. "Oba, Oji, where are you? Everybody is so mean! Don't leave me all alone!"
She hears music and comes to a stop. She goes to a set of doors and opens them. The sound of party streamers pop as soon as she does. Her eyes widen in surprise. A smile appears on her face when she sees her Mama, Papa, Oba, Oji, Selene, Teddy and the sailor senshi in front of her. On the table, there is a large birthday cake and snacks.
"Small Lady." Her mama begins.
"Happy birthday." Her papa finishes.
"Mama! Papa!"
"Small Lady." Her oba begins.
"Happy birthday." Her oji finishes.
"Oba! Oji!"
"Chibi-Usa, happy birthday!" Selene and Teddy call out at the same time.
"Selene-chan! Teddy!"
"Small Lady, happy birthday." The sailor senshi says at the same time.
"Everyone!"
"I am sorry the celebration of your birthday is one day late." Her papa apologizes.
"But they finished their work and hurried back home." Sailor Mercury points out with a smile.
"We wanted to surprise you with tonight's birthday party." Sailor Mars admits.
"So, we were all keeping it a secret." Sailor Jupiter adds.
"I'm sorry we didn't tell you." Sailor Venus apologizes.
Chibi-Usa shakes her head. "No, it's okay. Thank you, Mama, Papa, Oba, Oji, Selene-chan, Teddy, everyone!"
~~~Selena's POV~~~
I watch as the black crescent moon is removed from Chibi-Usa's forehead and her eyes go back to normal. "They were all thinking of me…" She pulls her knees to her chest. Her form switches from adult to child and back again.
Usagi lets out a gasp. "Chibi-Usa is…"
"Going back to her usual self!" Rei finishes when Usagi trails off.
Her form stops on her child self and smiles appear on our faces. "The misunderstanding is being resolved!" Ami-chan says relieved.
"She's being freed of the brainwashing!" Mako-chan acknowledges.
"I'm so glad!" Minako-chan adds with a smile.
"Chibi-Usa!" Usagi and I call out.
I see Luna-P go back to normal just as a figure appears behind her. "Black Lady, do not be tricked." She looks up. "Recall your mean spirited mother and your cruel father. You are a poor little rabbit, starved for love. You were a lonely soul, who always wished for those around you to celebrate your birthday."
Rei holds out her hand. "Chibi-Usa-chan, you must not listen to him!"
"You saw that foolish illusion because your wish was so strong." He continues.
"Illusion?" Chibi-Usa repeats. "Are you saying that happy memory I just saw was an illusion?"
"Chibi-Usa, don't let him trick you! What you saw wasn't a dream!" Usagi encourages softly.
"It was the truth! Chibi-Usa!" I call out softly.
Chibi-Usa looks down at her hands. "I don't know anymore. Which is the truth?"
"You are not loved by anyone. Intensify your hatred even more." He orders.
Dark Energy surrounds Chibi-Usa. She let out a yell as she covers her ears with her hands. "In reality, no one ever celebrated my birthday!" She lowers her hand and looks up. "I was never loved by anyone, after all!"
She turns back into Black Lady. She hovers in the air.
"Oh, Chibi-Usa!" Usagi calls out.
"Chibi-Usa-chan!" Rei calls out.
"I am Black Lady and I was given a new life by Wiseman. I am not Chibi-Usa!" Black Lady comments.
"No, you are Chibi-Usa-chan!" Ami-chan points out.
"You are Chibi-Usa-chan!" Mako-chan and Minako-chan call out at the same time.
"And you are Crystal Tokyo's…" Artemis and Yue start.
"Small Lady!" Luna and Crescent finish.
"You must not be fooled by the evil energy!" Mamo-chan encourages.
Black Lady smirks and lets out a chuckle. "Soon, the Evil Black Crystal's power will be fired from the planet Nemesis and this world will fall. You shall be crushed to dust along with this world, and the world will turn to darkness." She laughs as dark energy surrounds her.
"Chibi-Usa!" Usagi and I call out.
The energy disappears along with Wiseman, Luna-P and Black Lady.
Usagi closes her eyes and clenches her fists down by her sides. "Chibi-Usa…" Usagi lifts her head and gazes up at the sky and sunlight shines down on us. "How in the world can we restore Chibi-Usa to her old self?"
I stand next to Usagi and Mamo-chan wraps his arm around my waist. "Usagi, you mustn't give up. We'll get her back. I promise."
Usagi nods her head but we don't remove our gazes from the sky.
