Previously on The Bad Twin:
I wish I didn't have to return home. But I had no choice. I had to save her and I had to find out more about her.
"What are you?" Elena asked Stefan.
"I'm a vampire." Stefan told her.
"You said you don't kill to survive." She repeated from the night before.
"Animal blood keeps me alive, but not as strong as Damon." Stefan explained to her.
"Hello, brother." Damon greeted, smirking.
"Damon."
"What are you?" I asked Damon and he just stared at me in the shadows of his house.
"Why would I tell you?" he asked me weakly.
"I put the pieces together a while ago."
"Stefan finally fessed up."
"Stay away from my family." Elena told him.
He grabbed my wrist and my bracelet then dropped my hand quickly.
"Vervain. Really?" he asked me.
"What's vervain?" I asked him.
"That necklace, it contains an herb called vervain. It protects you from being compelled." Stefan explained to Elena.
I opened the box and found a locket. The locket had a white tulip on it and was a faded gold color, as though it was very old.
"You want to kiss me." Damon told me. He leaned down close to my face and I smirked at him.
"I am no one's second choice." I backed away from him and walked away.
"You were right, you're no one's second choice." He kissed my cheek before smiling down at me. I smiled up at him lightly.
"I will keep your secret, but... I can't be with you, Stefan." Elena told him.
"What is that?" Caroline asked looking at an amber gem.
"A very important crystal." Damon told her, putting it in his pocket.
"Are you psychic or clairvoyant?" Caroline asked Bonnie as the three of us walked down the hallway together.
"Technically, Grams says I'm a witch."
"There was a time when this town was... very much aware of vampires." Stefan told Elena.
"5 bodies all drained of blood?" Sheriff Forbes confirmed.
"They've come back." Logan agreed.
Damon quickly put his hand over Vicki's mouth and bit her neck.
"You just don't wanna die, do you?"
"She's transitioning." Stefan explained.
"Transitioning to what?" Elena asked, afraid of the answer.
"A vampire." He told her.
"He still has Chloe. What if he kills her or forces her to turn?"
"I don't think he will." Stefan told her.
"Why's that?" she asked him worriedly.
"She's been with him since at least last night. If he was going to kill her or turn her he would have done so already." He explained.
There's nothing human left in Damon. No good, no kindness. No love. Only a monster who must be stopped.
He noticed hair was covering some of her face and gently moved it out of the way before
"I don't know what's wrong with her." Jeremy said feeling even more depressed.
As Vicki hugged him she was tempted to bite him and she was about to. When she realized what she was doing, she stopped.
"No." she said before getting up and running away grabbing her shoes in the process.
"It'll all be fine."
"I will make sure that she does not hurt anybody, Elena. I promise you." He told her.
Tyler was walking out to his car at night after practice.
"All right, later, man." Tyler said waving to one of his team mates
"See you, bro!" the man said before going to his own vehicle. Tyler got into his car only to be surprised by Vicki Donovan sitting in his passenger seat.
"Hi, Ty." Vicki said staring out the windshield.
"Whoa, Vicki? Everyone's looking for you!" Tyler told her.
"I know." She told him.
"What's wrong, Vick?" Tyler asked her.
"I'm so cold." She answered.
"You're on drugs!? Everyone thinks you're off on a bender." Tyler told her.
"I wish." She whispered.
"What happened in those woods, Vicki? Those kids that were killed. What did you see?" Tyler asked her the question everyone wanted to know.
"I'm so scared." She told him.
"Come here. It's okay. I'll take you home." He told her being the good guy for her. He held her close and she buried her face into his neck.
"I can't control it." She told him.
"Control what?" he asked her confused.
"I am so hungry, Ty. And it won't go away." She told him.
"What are you on? What drugs did you take?" he asked her wondering if they had any side effects on her finally.
"I want it. I am so hungry,Ty." She told him.
"Okay look, I'll get you something to eat. Just sit back. Look, let's just get you home, okay?" she pulled back from him showing the veins under her eyes. "Whoa! Vicki! What is wrong with you?!" Tyler asked her as she attacked him. She had pushed him out of his truck and onto the pavement below. She attacked him again only for Stefan to pull her off him.
"Aah! Let go of me!" Vicki yelled at Stefan as he held her against the truck. Damon appeared behind Tyler and watched.
"What's going on here, Stefan? What's wrong with her?" Tyler asked Stefan.
"You don't talk." Damon told him.
"Screw you, dude." Tyler told Damon and the vampire gave him a look knowing he was a dumbass.
""Dude" really?, "dude"?" Damon asked him before picking him up by the collar of his shirt.
"Damon, don't!" Stefan warned him.
"Oh come on. Who's gonna miss this idiot?" Damon asked him and Tyler hit him.
"Ooh! Don't you hurt him!" Vicki shouted at Damon. Damon grabbed Tyler by the throat and forced him to look him in the eyes so he could compel him.
"Forget what you saw here tonight. None of us were here." Damon said before throwing Tyler down. When Tyler got him they were all gone as well as his memories of them being there
I woke up and took a quick shower before putting on my jeans, white heels, and light brown shirt with a beige sheer cover shirt that shimmered in the sunlight. I added my bracelet with the vervain water my mother had always instructed me to put it in and the locket that had appeared on my window sill. I stared at my bracelet for a moment and wondered how my mother knew about vervain and that it would protect me like she always said.
"Sorry." I heard Elena say from the bathroom when I walked out of my room.
"Oh, no, it's cool, I'm done." I heard Jer say to her.
"You're up early. Where are you going?"
"Police station. They're organizing the search party for Vicki, so..." Jer told her.
"Wait. Shouldn't you be going to school?" she asked him following him out of the bathroom.
"What? You're kidding me, right?" Jer asked her.
"Elena let him go." I told her and she just gave me a look showing me she couldn't believe what I'd just said.
"He shouldn't skip school. If they find her, we'll know. That's what cellphones are for." She told him.
"Yeah, your lips keep movin'. I don't know why. Thanks Chloe." He walked away and she gave me another look.
"He can't be out there looking for her. What if he finds her and she hurts him?"
"We can't dictate his life for him. Damon and Stefan will keep her locked away and he's safe during the day from her so I don't see a problem." I told her before walking away from her.
At Mystic Falls High Matt was at his locker when his phone rang.
"Yeah?" he answered.
"Matty?" He heard his sister's voice ask.
"Vicki, where are you? Are you okay?" he asked her.
"Yeah. I'm okay." She answered.
"Tell me where you are, and I'll come get you." He told her.
"No. Matty, I just need some time to figure things out. Just know that I am okay, okay ? Please don't worry about me." She told him before hanging up on him.
"I don't understand why I have to stay cooped up here. Why can't I just go home?" Vicki asked the two boys on either side of her.
"Because you're changing, Vicki, and it's not something you wanna do alone." Stefan reminded her.
"There's nothin' about that Logan guy I killed in here. Not a word. Someone's covering it up." Damon said looking through the paper. He tossed the paper down and played with the compass he'd taken from Logan.
"What is that?" Vicki asked him.
"This is a very special, very old compass. What was Logan Fell doing with it? Aren't you curious?" Damon asked his brother.
"Well, if you're so worried that somebody's onto you, why don't you just leave town, Damon?" Stefan suggested.
"We should all be worried." Damon reminded him.
"Hey, um, I'm hungry. Do you have anything to eat?" Vicki asked them.
"Here." Stefan said giving her a cup of blood.
"What is it?" she asked him.
"It's what you're craving." He told her.
"Heh. Don't lie to the girl. It's so not what you're craving, but it'll do in a pinch, right, Stef?" Damon asked with a smirk on his face.
"What is it?" Vicki asked again.
"Yeah, what is it? Is it a skunk? Saint Bernard? Bambi?" Damon asked him.
"Go on. Give it a try." Stefan insisted and she did it.
"She's new. She needs people blood. She can't sustain on that stuff." Damon told him.
"Yeah, why can't I have people blood?" Vicki asked downing the blood.
"Yeah." Damon piped up.
"Because it's wrong to pray on innocent people, Vicki." Stefan told her.
"You don't have to kill to feed. Just find someone really tasty and then erase their memory after wards. It's so easy." Damon told her.
"No, no, no. There's no guarantee that you can control yourself, okay? It takes years to learn that. You could easily kill somebody, and then you have to carry that with you for the rest of your life, which, if I haven't made clear, is eternity." Stefan reminded her.
"Don't listen to him. He walks on a moral plane way out of our eye line. I say snatch, eat, erase." Damon told her.
"Hey, look at me. We choose our own path. Our values and our actions, they define who we are." Stefan said.
"Okay, count deepak. I am outta here." Damon said getting up and going downstairs.
"Can I have some more?" Vicki asked Stefan getting every bit of the blood she could with her finger.
Elena and I stood at the door as she rang the doorbell. When the door opened Damon was standing there smirking at us.
"Is Stefan here?" she asked him.
"Yep!" he confirmed.
"Where is he?" she asked him.
"And good morning to you, little miss " I'm on a mission"." He said with a smirk.
"She's always on a mission." I told him.
"How can you be so arrogant and glib after everything that you've done?" she asked him and I rolled my eyes.
"And how can you be so brave and stupid to call a vampire arrogant and glib?" he asked her.
"If you wanted us dead, we'd be dead." I said.
"Yes, you would." He confirmed.
"But we're not." I said.
"Yet." He reminded me. I was going to comment when Elena interrupted me.
"Where is Stefan?" she asked him.
"He's upstairs singing "the rain in Spain". Knock yourself out." Damon said leaving. Elena and I walked in and closed the door behind him before walking down the hall.
"Stefan? Stefan?" she called to him.
"Yes." He said quietly from behind us. We turned to see him standing on a small landing above us.
"Where is Vicki?" I asked him.
"She's upstairs." He told us.
"What happens now? Because our brother is out there searching for her with the rest of the town. What do we tell him?" Elena asked him as he joined us downstairs.
"I'm working with her, but it's gonna take time. She's a very volatile and impulsive personality. She's a drug user. I mean, all that's gonna play a part in how she responds to this." Stefan explained and I nodded in understanding.
"So, she's a vampire with issues?" Elena asked with attitude. "What am we supposed to do? Because I'm lying to everyone that I care about. What's gonna happen to her?" she asked him.
"I'm gonna keep her here with me until I know that she's safe." Stefan told us.
"How long is that?" we all turned to see Vicki where Stefan had been.
"We can talk about that later." Stefan said.
"Hey, Vicki, How are you?" Elena asked her kindly and I gave my twin a look.
"How am I? You're kidding, right?" Vicki asked her.
Bonnie sat at her Grams house as she had all weekend. She'd finally given into her witch ancestry and spent the weekend learning the history of her family.
"Was our family burned in the witch trials?" Bonnie asked her grandmother.
"No, the girls that were persecuted in Salem were entirely innocent. You have to have more than ignorance to trap a real witch." Grams told her with a smirk on her face as she joined her on the couch.
"How did we end up in Mystic Falls?" Bonnie asked her.
"Our family fled Salem in 1692 and relocated here. Our ancestors lived in secrecy for over a hundred years. It's important that we still do." Grams told her and Bonnie gave her a look.
"Grams, everybody knows you're a witch." She told her.
"They also know it's absurd, can't be true. I'm just a kooky lady that teaches occult at the university. No one really believes. They just poke fun. And let 'em . Don't let 'em know the truth." Grams told her.
"Where's the witchcraft? I mean, you've been talking history for 2 days. I wanna get to the fun part." Bonnie told her with a smile on her face.
"It's not meant to be fun. It's real and it's serious, and you must understand it before you practice it. Aren't you late for school?" Grams asked her and Bonnie gave her another look before leaving.
At the Grill, Mayor Lockwood and Mrs. Lockwood are sitting at a booth discussing the recent events with Logan Fell.
"We never should have trusted that Logan...Weasel with the watch." Mayor Lockwood said angrily.
"How many are we dealing with?" Mrs. Lockwood asked her husband trying to get him to focus.
"Well, the coroner thinks one. Something about the wound radius and the jaw pattern ." He told her.
"Are we in danger?" She asked him. "I mean, if it found the watch, then it knows we know, and could it come after us? A-and should I even be saying "it"? Or..or is it a he or a she?"
"If it has any historical knowledge of the town, then it'll know where the watch came from, so yes, we could very much be in danger." Her husband told her.
"So what do we do?" She asked him.
"Just keep it quiet. We can't have the entire town aware of this. We need to find it before it finds us." He told her calmly. Over at the bar, Damon smirked having listened to their entire conversation.
"Hey man!" Tyler said walking up to Matt between classes.
"Hey!" Matt greeted.
"I heard they're putting together a search party for Vicki." Tyler said wanting to know if it was true.
"She just called. She's okay." Matt told him as they walked down the halls.
"Ooh good. That's great. I figured you must have been goin' out of your mind." Tyler told him.
"Little bit. Yeah." Matt confirmed.
"I was just gonna offer. You know, if there's anything I could do." Tyler offered.
"I appreciate it." Matt told him.
In another part of the school, Caroline walked up to Bonnie with a bag in her hand and handed it to her happily.
"I have got your costume. It's all here." Caroline told her.
"Seriously?" Bonnie asked her pulling out the witch hat.
"Come on. Can someone please be excited that it's Halloween? I just wanna have fun, you know, just some silly, fluffy, Damon free fun." Caroline asked her. Bonnie pulled out the amber crystal and stared at it for a moment.
"Hey, isn't this the one you got from Damon?" Bonnie asked her.
"Yep. Wear it. Toss it. I don't care. I just want it gone. Hey, have you seen Elena and Chloe? Do we know what they're wearing?" Caroline asked her.
"I was with Grams all weekend. I haven't talked to them. Maybe Elena's with Stefan and Chloe's with someone else." Bonnie suggested.
"Riding to his castle on his white horse." Caroline said leaning on the lockers behind her.
"Don't be bitter. It provokes wrinkles." Bonnie told her.
"Coffee is our friend. It's the caffeine. It circulate through our veins, and it warms our body so we're not so cold to the touch." Stefan told Vicki giving her the coffee.
"Well, what if I wanna drink human blood?" she asked him.
"You're gonna have to learn to live with that urge and fight it on a daily basis one day at time." He told her.
"Oh god! Don't start with that whole 12 steps thing. School counselor has been down that road, and it doesn't work for me." Vicki told him.
"It can work. It's your choice, Vicki." Stefan told her.
"So you've never tasted human blood?" she asked him and he froze.
"Not in a long time." He answered.
"How long?" she asked him.
"Years and years. I'm not proud of my past behavior." He answered and that opened up more questions.
"Does this sketchy feeling ever go away? It's like I have a massive hangover. This daylight thing is a bitch. I need more blood. Where's your bathroom ? I have to pee. Why do I have to pee? I thought I was dead." She fired off before leaving the room.
"I'm going to, uh...I'm gonna get her some more. All right. I'll be quick." Stefan told us and left. Moments later Vicki came back inside.
"False alarm. My body's feeling really funky. It's a good funk, but it's weird." She said before pulling out her phone.
"Umm, who are you calling?" Elena asked her.
"Jeremy." She said.
"Vicki, you can't see Jeremy anymore." Elena told her.
"At least not until you have yourself under control." I clarified.
"No, not ever." Elena said and I gave her a look.
"Oh come on don't you start. I'm gonna see whoever I wanna see." Vicki told us.
"Even though you could hurt him?" I asked her.
"I would never hurt Jeremy." She told us.
"I know you think that but I can't take that risk. You're gonna have to let Jeremy go now." Elena told her.
"Oh really? And how long have you been preparing the "you're not good enough " speech? I'm assuming it predates the whole vampire thing." Vicki asked her.
"All I am saying is Jeremy is not getting involved in any of this. I mean it, Vicki." Elena told her.
"Or what?" Vicki asked before grabbing Elena by the throat and pushed her against the wall.
"Stefan!" I called out hoping he'd hear me.
"Let's get one thing straight, you perky little bitch. You had my brother whipped for 15 years. 15 years and then you dumped him. When I look at you that is all I see, just so you know. And I'm gonna see Jeremy whenever I wanna see Jeremy, because I have some fun new toys to play with, and I won't think twice about ripping your little head off. You got it?" Vicki let her go and I helped Elena stand as she coughed and regained her breath.
"She threatened me." Elena told Stefan as we all stood on the porch.
"She's on edge. Imagine every sense in your body operating at super speed. I mean, she's uncomfortable in her own skin. And then when you throw in her other issues..." Stefan explained.
"How long before it settles? Hours? Days? Weeks?" I asked him. "How long do we have to worry about her going out and possible killing people we care about?"
"There's no rule book." He told me.
"Well, how long before you learned to control it?" Elena asked him.
"A while, but I didn't have anybody helping me." He answered vaguely. "I had to do it on my own. The thing is it's hard to resist certain people especially when you're new, it's difficult to separate your feelings. Love,lust,anger,desire...it can all blur into one urge, hunger."
"What does that mean?" she asked him.
"It means that Jeremy can't see her, not now. She might not be able to resist him, and she could hurt him." He told us.
"Or worse." I filled in.
"I'm not gonna let anybody get hurt." Stefan told us.
"We need to get going." Elena said.
"Elena..." Stefan tried stopping her but she interrupted him.
"Please Stefan. There's only so much I can take." Elena told him before taking my arm and we walked to the car so we could leave.
That night Damon entered Stefan's bedroom to see Vicki laying on Stefan's bed, listening to music.
"What are you doing?" he asked sitting next to her.
"Just contemplating the next hundred years." She told him before sitting up. "Why did you do it?"
"I was …. bored." He told her.
"You did this to me out of boredom?" she asked him.
"It's one of the pitfalls of eternity." He told her.
"Well why didn't you turn Chloe too?" she asked him and he just stared at her for a moment.
"No that bored at the time." he lied to her.
"Now I'm bored. And all I can think about is blood. I just want some blood. I can't think about anything else. What is that about?" she asked him and he chuckled at her.
"That'll ease up. You've just been cooped up all day. Let's go." Damon said standing up.
"Where?" she asked following him.
"Your life was pathetic. Your afterlife doesn't have to be." He told her. They walked through the house down to the front door only for Stefan to see them.
"What are you doing?" he asked them.
"She's been cooped up in your room all day. She's not Anne Frank." Damon told him and Stefan knew what was going to happen.
"No, no . Hey hey...Now's not the time for this." Stefan told him.
"If you're gonna teach her. Teach her. Show her what it's all about." Damon told him.
"She could hurt someone." Stefan reminded him.
"I'm not takin' her to Disneyland. We're going in the front yard. Come on." Damon told both of them opening the door and walking outside.
"Bad idea Damon." Stefan repeated to Damon.
"She's a vampire Stefan, she should know the perks." Damon told him.
"Like what?" Vicki asked him.
"Like..." Damon broke off and used his vampire speed to move behind her.
"Whoa. How did you do that? Ho ho ho ho." Vicki asked excitedly.
"Come on Vicki, live a little. No pun intended." Damon told her. They watched Vicki use her vampire speed to run. They listened for her to return only to not hear anything. "Uh...my bad."
Vicki had run to her home and grabbed the extra key from under a flowerpot. She opened the door and smiled before trying to walk in. She looked confused as she looked around the doorway before looking inside.
"Matt?" she called inside.
"Vicki? Is that you?" Matt called her moving to the door to see her standing outside. She smiled at him, happy to finally see her brother again.
"Hey." She greeted.
"Get in here." He told her, hugging her close to him. She smelt the blood rushing through her veins and she quickly pulled away.
"In a minute. I..." she said looking around the door again.
"Please come inside. I've been worried." He told her. She tried to get in the house again and smiled when she could. They moved to the kitchen where he sat her down at the table. "Thank God you're okay. Where were you, Vic?" Matt asked getting her some food.
"It's no big deal. Drop it already." She told him sitting at the table.
"3 people were murdered in the woods. The cops were lookin' for you. They wanna question you." He told her putting a plate in front of her.
"They know where I live." She told him.
"Everyone was worried about you." He said.
"I'm back now. Just let it go." She told him.
"Are you kidding? I had a freakin' search party out lookin' for you while you were off on your crazy drug trip, and you want me to let it go?" he asked her angrily.
"My head hurts." She told him.
"You think?" he asked her before the doorbell rang. Matt answered the door to see Stefan.
"Stefan, what are you doing here?" Matt asked him.
"Is Vicki home?" Stefan asked him.
"Yeah." Matt answered.
"Can I see her, please?" Stefan asked him.
"Don't let him in. I don't want him in here." Vicki called to her bother.
"Did he do something to you?" Matt asked her.
"No, I just don't want him in here." Vicki told him.
"Just let me come in so I can explain myself." Stefan asked again.
"Look, I don't know what's going on but I think you should leave now." Matt told him.
"Matt..." Stefan begged.
"Please, now, Stefan." Matt asked closing the door on him.
Jeremy was in the kitchen on his phone trying to get ahold of Vicki.
"You gotta call me, Vic. I don't get it. What's going on with you? Just...just call me please." Jeremy begged into the phone before hanging up. He'd once again received her voice mail.
"Hey. So, um, do you wanna hang out tonight? We could go to the, uh, Halloween thing at school. Could be fun!" Elena said to Jeremy as she and I entered the kitchen.
"Cool. Sure. Sounds uh... sounds fun. Can't wait." He said sarcastically.
"Sound a little more enthusiastic, you might get us to believe you." I told him with a smile and he sighed.
"I know you're upset about Vicki. I heard she called Matt. But you can't be with her. She needs to get better. The best thing you can do for her is let her go." Elena told him and I gave her a look.
"Really? That's your opening line on the matter?" I asked her.
"What does that even mean, "let her go"? Oh, okay, sure. Since we're such experts on letting people go, right?" Jeremy said to her.
"I know you may not see it, but trust me Jer. It's for the best." Elena told him.
"Look, for months after mom and dad died, I felt like crap, like "nothing really even mattered" crap. Now all of a sudden,I get these moments and things started to feel just a little bit better, and Vicki was in every single of 'em. So you may not see it, but trust me. Keeping me away from her is not for the best." He told us before walking off.
"Great job, sis. Now he really hates us. What's with you telling him to let her go? You heard Stefan she just needs to learn control and she'll be fine." I reminded her.
"But that could take years to do and I don't want him to wait forever for her." She told me and I rolled my eyes.
"Sometimes you can be an idiot. You know that?" I asked her.
In the hallway next to the stairs Jeremy had pulled out his phone to check the incoming message he'd received while Elena and I had been speaking to him.
Vicki: Stuck with Matt. Meet me?
Jeremy: Yes. Where?
Vicki: School. It's Halloween!
He laughed quietly at her last message and rushed upstairs.
At the Halloween Canaveral, Bonnie and Caroline were talking and laughing when Tyler walked over with two cups.
"Cider for the ladies. It's a Lockwood special." He told them.
"No way." Bonnie refused. "Last year I was hung over until Thanksgiving."
"Lightweight. I am going to drink until someone is hot enough to make out with." Caroline said taking the offered drink.
"Sounds like a plan." Tyler said. They clinked their plastic cups and took a drink.
At the Grill, the Mayor and his wife were sitting down and having drinks before the party at the school.
"How many martinis have you had?" Mayor Lockwood asked his wife in annoyance.
"Oh. Don't start with me." She told him.
"Can we go now? We're late for the Halloween party. Let's go." He told her.
"So go ahead. I'd like to finish my drink." She told him and he quickly got up and left. Once he'd moved Carol turned to watch him leave only to see Damon who'd been watching them all day. Damon smirked at her and got up from his seat and joined her in her booth.
"Let me guess. Daisy Buchanan. I love a good "gatsby" look." He flirted with her.
"I've met you before. Aren't you Caroline Forbes' boyfriend?" she asked him.
"Ah, she had a schoolgirl crush on me but...It was cute but I had to let her down easy." He told her.
"It's Damon,right?" she asked.
"Ah, you remember?" he said taking a drink.
"Well, you have a face that's hard to forget. What's your last name Damon?" she asked.
"Salvatore." He answered.
"Salvatore?" she said, making she'd heard him right.
"Mm hmm." He nodded.
"Are you any relation to Zach?" she asked him.
"Zach's my uncle. How do you know Zach?" he asked while trying to compel her.
"Are you okay?" she asked him proving that his compulsion didn't work.
"Yeah. I think there's something in my eye." He told her rubbing his eyes while looking to see if she was wearing vervain only to discover her bracelet.
"Well, I know Zach from the founders council. You know the Salvatores were one of this town's original settlers." She told him when he looked back up at her.
"Yes, they were. I wasn't aware that Zach was a member. I just recently moved back home and haven't really had a chance to meet many of his friends." Damon lied to her.
"Well, will you tell him to return my calls? I've left several messages." She told him.
"Zach went out of town for a bit. But if it's about the Vervain..." he said quietly letting her know that he knew the town secret.
"You know about the Vervain?" she asked him confused.
"Well, I'm a Salvatore. Of course I do." Damon said.
"Of course." She said with a smile on her face.
"Hmm. Cheers." They both clinked their glasses and continued talking about the town's dirty little secret.
Back at the school, Elena, Jeremy and I arrived in last year's costumes, well Elena and I did Jeremy just put on a hoodie and called it a night out. Elena and Matt had worn a doctor and nurse outfit with fake blood and a fake hand and foot around their necks while I had worn a version of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. The dress fell to the floor in the back but in the front it fell to mid-thigh with the ripples in it and two roses where the difference in length was making the appearance that I could always change the length. The top was corset styled with a red rose on the bust with off the shoulder sleeves. I wore red heels to tie the outfit together and had my hair in a half up bun like in the Disney movie but I would be damned if I was going to straighten my hair like Elena's. As we walked some kids passed us and Jeremy growled at them from under his hood.
"Aah aah!" they quickly ran away and Elena smacked our little brother before we walked inside the school. Once we were inside we ran into Matt, who was also wearing last year's costume.
"You went with last year's costume too, huh?" He asked us.
"Yeah. we didn't know that we were coming till an hour ago." Elena told him as they clapped the hand and foot together making me roll my eyes.
"Me neither. And you're going as...you?" Matt asked Jeremy. The younger boy rolled his eyes and walked away from the three of us.
"He's not talking to us right now. We got into fight." Elena told him.
"Correction they had a fight I was just the innocent bystander." I said earning a look from her which I gave a mock sad face to.
"Yeah, I got into it with Vic too, when she got home. I'm trying not to smother her tonight, but part of me didn't wanna let her out of my sight." Matt told us and we looked at him shocked.
"She's here?" we asked in unison.
"Yeah, you can't miss her. She's a vampire." He told us.
"You don't know the half of it." I told him as we started looking for Jeremy.
"Where did Jeremy go?" She asked.
"Elena, Chloe what's the matter?" Matt asked us.
"We…we've gotta find him." She said and we rushed off to find our brother.
In another part of the school, Vicki was walking through the halls with other people surrounding her. The lights and the number of people were making her take deep breaths but that only made the smell of blood worse. The next thing she knew she was in a classroom with a red light and she turned to see Stefan staring at her in front of the door.
"What, you're following me now?" Vicki asked him.
"You didn't really give me a much of choice." He told her. She tried to leave but he just moved in front of her, blocking her path.
"Let me out of here." She ordered him.
"You shouldn't be here Vicki. Crowds like this, it make it even harder for you to keep yourself under control." He warned her.
"I'm fine." She lied to him.
"Really?" he asked not believing her.
"Mm Hmm." She nodded.
"No headache? Your stomach's not screaming at you? You're not feeling lightheaded or anxious or cranky like if someone looks at you the wrong way you could just rip their head off?" he asked describing everything she'd just been feeling. "Do you wanna know what that's called? It's called hunger and it's only gonna get worse and worse every minute that you pretend like it's not controlling you."
Back at the Grill Damon had moved so he was sitting right next to Carol.
"So you need vervain?" Damon asked her.
"Yes. My husband and I only have left what his parents left him, and Zach had promised that he could supply us with more." She told him.
"Well, I talk to him all the time. So why don't I just ask him?" Damon asked her.
"Hmm." Carol said thinking about it before nodding.
"Mmm . How much do you need? I mean, how many people, you think?" he asked her.
"Well, there's our children, of course." She said.
"Of course." He agreed.
"And, um, friends, family, and everyone on the council." She listed off.
"The council?" he asked her. She realized what she'd told him and quickly covered.
"Zach knows how many. But I am so late. My husband is not going to be happy with me." She laughed.
"Well, are you happy with your husband?" he asked her flirtatiously.
"You're flirting with me." She pointed out.
"You flirted with me first." He reminded her.
"True." She confirmed.
"Let me escort you to the school. It's not safe out there alone. I mean, I've seen 10 vampires tonight." He joked with her making her laugh.
"Heh. well, if only the real ones were as easy to find." She said.
"How's that search goin'?" he asked her finally getting to the question he'd been wanting to ask her.
"Oh, we had the founder's party, and anyone who arrived during the day was eliminated as a suspect." She said.
"Oh." He said remembering when he arrived with Caroline.
"And all the rest were just dead ends, so mmm mmm, I gotta go." She said taking one last drink.
"Okay." He nodded and they both left the Grill talking happily.
Back at the school Elena and I had been looking for Jeremy but ran into Stefan and Vicki instead.
"Thank God." Elena said giving a sigh of relief.
"What's the matter?" Stefan asked her.
"We lost track of Jeremy. I was worried." She told him.
"We both were." I corrected.
"What's goin' on?" Matt asked coming up behind us.
"Hey. uh, everything's fine." Stefan assured him when Vicki pulled her arm out of his grip.
"I told you to quit bothering me." She told Stefan and I gave her a shocked look.
"No. Vicki, don't do this." I tried to tell her calmly.
"Matt, he won't leave me alone." Vicki whined to her brother.
"You need to back off, man." Matt said pushing Stefan away from his sister.
"Matt, it's...it's okay." Elena tried to reassure him.
"No, it's not okay. What the hell is your problem?" Matt asked Stefan when I noticed something important.
"Stefan. Elena. She's gone." I said looking for Vicki. Stefan pushed Matt off him and pushed him into a wall.
"I'm trying to help her." Stefan said before Elena and I left to try and find Vicki or Jeremy.
Jeremy was walking around looking for his girlfriend when he was grabbed and pushed into a wall.
"Whoa. Vic, you scared the hell out of me." He said once he saw who it was.
"Sorry. I'm sorry." She told him before they kissed and ran towards the exit.
Outside in front of the school Bonnie was standing next to a cauldron having been ditched by Caroline when she was approached by Damon.
"So where...where'd Caroline run off to?" Damon asked her.
"Do yourself a favor, Damon, and don't ask me about Caroline." She told him.
"Oh, Bonnie. So loyal." Damon said with a smirk.
"Just stay away from her." Bonnie warned him. His smirk grew until he saw a crystal around her neck.
"Where'd you get that?" he asked her.
"From a friend." She said cryptically but he knew exactly who gave it to her.
"Caroline. You know that's mine, don't you?" he asked her.
"Not anymore." She told him.
"Funny. I'd like it back, please." He asked nicely.
"I'm not giving it to you. I'll give it to Caroline, and she can give it to you if she feels like it." She told him.
"Or I could just take it right now." Damon grabbed the crystal and it burned his hand making him let go of it quickly. In her fear over what had just happened she quickly turned and ran away.
Inside the school Elena and I were still searching for either Jeremy or Vicki. The couple had just left out the back entrance still kissing each other as they collided with a bus. Stefan stood in the middle of one of the rooms and was listening for Vicki.
"Jeremy." Elena called when I noticed the door.
"Elena." I said motioning to it and the two of us moved towards the open door.
"I was so worried about you." Jeremy told Vicki holding her close to him.
"I'm fine now, but...I gotta leave." She told him.
"Wh...what? Where?" he asked her.
"I gotta get out of here, Jer. I just...I can't live at home with Matt. He just doesn't get it." She tried explaining to him.
"No, you can't. You can't just leave." He begged her.
"Come with me. If you come with me, we can be together forever." She told him.
"Okay. Yeah." He agreed with a smile. She smiled at him before they kissed each other. She accidently bit his lip and pulled away from him. "Ow. You're taking that costume a little too far." He joked before he saw her looking at him lip which was bleeding. "What? What is it?" she asked him. She kissed his lip and began to drink his blood from the small wound. "Vicki! Vicki, what the hell?!" she pushed him to the ground and her faced changed. Her eyes went red with the dark veins under her eyes and her fangs were dropped as she looked at him. "Oh, my god. No! stop! Vicki! No! Ah!" she went to attack Jeremy as Elena and I ran to them.
"Vicki, no!" Elena shouted as I grabbed a wooden plank and hit her with it. Elena went to help Jeremy but she pushed both of us into a pile of garbage nearby. I felt something tear through my side and I immediately moved my hand to it and felt rather than saw the blood. Stefan appeared and grabbed Vicki and held her against the bus.
"Vicki!" Jeremy screamed and it was just enough of a distraction for Vicki to push Stefan away from her and disappear.
"Go. Get inside. Go!" Stefan urged us. I held my hand over my side and noticed Elena doing the same with her arm. Elena grabbed Jeremy's hand and we ran for the door as Stefan continued searching for Vicki. We screamed as Vicki appeared before us and pushed Jeremy away from us. She went to grab Elena but I pushed my twin down and Vicki grabbed me and bit into my neck forcing another scream from my mouth. Suddenly she dropped me and I turned to see Stefan shoving a wooden stake through her body. We watched as she grayed before falling to the ground. Dead.
"Vicki! Vicki! Vicki! Vicki!" Jeremy said trying to run to her but Stefan held him back.
"Get them out of here." I told Stefan and he nodded before calling someone.
"What?" Damon answered his brother's call.
"I need your help." Stefan said holding Elena close to him as they both escorted Jeremy home. I stared down at Vicki's body and sighed before sitting down next to her.
"Elena! Hey, have you seen..." they all turned to see Matt who looked at them all in shock. "Whoa. wh...what happened?" Elena pushed Stefan to take Jeremy and she'd meet them before leaving.
"Nothing. Some idiot with some fake blood got me. I'm gonna go home and shower." She told him.
"I...I can't find Vicki. She totally bailed on me." He told her and she froze.
"I don't know where she is." She lied to him.
"Is this what I'm in for, a lifetime of worrying about her?" he asked her.
"You're a good brother, Matt." She told him.
"Yeah, maybe she went home." He said with hope.
"Maybe." She nodded.
"Okay." He agreed and they parted ways. As she walked to meet Stefan and Jeremy she cried about the lies she now had to make to those she was close to.
Bonnie stormed into her Grams' house still freaked out by what had happened.
"What happened to you?" Grams asked when she saw her granddaughter rushing to her.
"I did something. I don't know. It came from my necklace." She told her. Grams looked down at the necklace and was shocked at the crystal.
"Where'd you get that?" she asked her.
"It's part of my costume. It's a piece of junk." Bonnie told her.
"That piece of junk belonged to one Of the most powerful witches of our family. Let me show you." She said going for an old photo album and flipping to the right page. "There she is. Emily Bennett, your great-great-great-great-grandmother. And there's your necklace." On the page was the young woman who had served the two Pierce sisters in 1864 wearing the necklace Damon wanted back so desperately.
At the school, I was still sitting next to Vicki's body when Damon arrived next to me. I quickly stood up and stared at him.
"You should go. I got this." He told me.
"You do realize this is your fault, right?" I asked him. "What you did caused my brother to go through the pain of losing someone again and it caused Matt to now lose the only family he really had left."
"You confuse me for someone with remorse." He told me and I gave a harsh laugh and nodded my head. I quickly turned to him and went to slap him but he grabbed my wrist and stopped. "None of this matters to me, none of it."
"People die around you. How could it not matter?" I said pushing him away from me. I studied his face for a minute seeing no change. "If that doesn't matter to you, then what does?" I asked him.
"You need to leave. Your wounds are bleeding and you need to leave." He told me and I turned to leave him alone with Vicki's dead body.
When I got home I saw Elena wrapped in a blanket and Stefan sitting next to her on the porch swing.
"Where is he?" I asked them.
"Inside." Stefan told me. I moved to go inside when Elena stopped me.
"He's so broken up. I don't know how he'll get through this one." She told me.
"With help and time." I told her.
"Thank you." She called after me and I froze.
"Don't thank me." I said before going up to Jeremy. "Hey Jer, do you understand what happened tonight?"
"No. I don't understand. I mean, I know what I saw, but...I don't understand." He cried and I tried to think of a way to explain it to him.
"She was going to kill us. All of us." I said.
"Now she's dead. Vicki's dead." He cried.
"I'm so sorry this happened to her Jer." I apologized to him. In a way I felt it was my fault it had happened to her. I should have stopped Caroline from freeing Damon, or warned someone he was free.
"Make it stop. It hurts." He said and I immediately pulled him to me and hugged him.
"I know. It's going to be okay, I promise." I said.
"Why does everybody have to die on me?" He asked and if my heart could have broken more then it would have.
Outside, Stefan and Elena were still sitting on the porch swing talking.
"Are you okay?" She asked him.
"I, uh...I wanted to help her. But instead, uh..." he stopped talking as I walked through the door. " How's he doin'?"
"He's a mess." I answered.
"I don't want him going through this again. He's just a kid." Elena said.
"So are we if you think about it." I reminded her.
"Elena, Chloe, what can I do? I...What can I do to help? I'll do anything." Stefan told us.
"Can you make him forget?" She asked him.
"Elena..." he started to say but she continued talking.
"Stefan, please. I don't know how he'll ever get past this. I just want him to forget everything that happened." She pleaded.
"If I did it, there's no guarantee that it would work...Because of who I am. Because of how I live. I don't have the ability to do it right." Stefan explained to her.
"I can do it." I turned to see Damon standing on the bottom step looking up at me. If this is what you want...I'll do it."
"It's what I want." Elena told him and he just stared at me until I nodded.
"What do you want him to know?" Damon asked.
"I want you to tell him that Vicki left town and she's not coming back. That he shouldn't look for her or worry about her. He's gonna miss her, but he knows it's for the best."
"And you, Chloe?" He asked me and I thought about it for a moment.
"I hate the fact that we are taking his choice to remember away from him, but i dont want him to suffer." I told him and Damon nodded before going inside his arm brushing my own slightly.
"Part of me wishes that I could forget, too...Forget meeting you,Finding out what you are and everything that's happened since." Elena told Stefan.
"Is that what you want?" Stefan asked her sadly.
"Yes, it is. Because I don't want it to be like this. I don't wanna feel like this. But I can't. With everything that's happened...I can't lose the way I feel about you." She told him.
"It's done." I turned to see Damon behind me and I smiled thankful to him. Elena walked past us back inside and I placed my hand on Damon's arm.
"Thank you Damon." I said before going inside and closing the door as the two brothers stared at each other.
"Thank you. For earlier." Elena said pulling her blanket close to her. "Is there something going on between you and Damon that I need to know about?"
"First off don't thank me for saving you and nearly dying myself, or won't happen again. Second, even if their was something going on between me and Damon it's none of your business." I told her before walking upstairs knowing the boys heard everything we'd just said.
