Previously on The Bad Twin:

I wish I didn't have to return home. But I had no choice. I had to save her and I had to find out more about her.

Stefan walked over to a cupboard and inside were journals with years written on them. He pulled out a very old one and opened it to reveal two old photos of Elena and Chloe. They were dressed in clothes that were popular back then with their hair curled. Elena's hair was half up with curls cascading down her back. Chloe had all her hair down, framing her face. At the bottom of the photos were two names and a date. Katherine. Anna. 1864.

"Chloe. She's a dead ringer for Anna."

"Hello, brother." Damon greeted, smirking.

"Damon." Stefan said, turning to the balcony.

"He still has Chloe. What if he kills her or forces her to turn?"

"I don't think he will." Stefan told her.

"If I didn't know better, I'd say you were flirting with me." He said.

"It's a good thing you know better then." I told him.

"Just stay away from Chloe." Stefan told him, knowing he'd go after her before Elena.

There's nothing human left in Damon. No good, no kindness. No love. Only a monster who must be stopped.

He noticed hair was covering some of her face and gently moved it out of the way before caressing her face.

"Is there something going on between you and Damon that I need to know about?"

"Even if there was something going on between me and Damon it's none of your business." I told her.

"He killed Zach; he killed Tanner; he turned Vicki; I have to kill him!" Stefan told us.

"No, you can't do that!" I told him.

"You were right to stay away from me." He told her leaving.

"What is that?" Caroline asked looking at an amber gem.

"A very important crystal." Damon told her, putting it in his pocket.

"It belonged to one of the most powerful witches of our family." She said going for an old photo album and flipping to the right page. "Emily Bennet."

"I want my crystal back." He told her.

"Bonnie has it." Caroline told him.

"Get it from her." Damon ordered.

"Don't be givin' that back to anybody." Grams said clasping it around her neck.

"I just wish it was prettier." She said dropping it into her top.

At school, Bonnie was sitting at her desk in class, trying to stay awake during a very boring lecture.

"Today we're going to talk about shadow reckoning. This is a method of measuring heights by the sun's shadow. Let's say, for example, that we're going to measure the distance of a shadow. We're gonna take this measure here, measure the length, and we're going to multiply that by the height of the source. Building height can also be measured, using a clinometer, which we're going to make in class tomorrow." Bonnie glanced around in boredom when she noticed something in the hallway. She got up and stepped into the darkened hallway, looking for what she'd seen. Out of the corner of her eyes she saw a person walk by and slowly started towards her.

"Hello?" Bonnie called to the person. She followed where she'd been walking to see her ancestor, Emily, standing next to open double door. Emily walked through the double doors with Bonnie behind her. When the young Bennet walked through the doors she found herself at the ruins of Fell's Church. Bonnie looked around until she found her ancestor in the center of the ruins. Emily looked straight at her.

"Please, help me." Emily begged.

"Who are you?" Bonnie asked her.

"I'm Emily." Emily told her before smiling at her descendent. "You know that. We're family."

"Where am I?" Bonnie asked Emily. Emily looked back at the ruins

"This is where it started." Emily told her and Bonnie followed her gaze fearfully. "And this is where it has to end." Emily looked back at Bonnie.

"No. This isn't real." Bonnie said turning and running from Emily only to have the woman block her path. Bonnie turned to run again only to find Emily in front of her once again.

"Help me." Emily ordered.

Bonnie woke up with a gasp in class making everyone stare at her, including the girl sitting next to her.

"What are you looking at? Turn around." Bonnie ordered her. Bonnie turned to her other side to see Emily sitting in the seat. Bonnie screamed before waking up in the middle of the ruins of Fell's Church.

"Have you even talked to Bonnie?" I asked Caroline as we walked from her car to the school building. Elena was riding with Bonnie as I rode with Caroline. I know, stupid. But ever since Halloween we'd been off. Even more than usual.

"No, I'm mad at her. She needs to make the first move." Caroline told me.

"Be the bigger person." I told her.

"Impossible in her presence." Caroline told me.

"Why are you so pissed at her anyway?" I laughed.

"She's a thief, that's why. I gave her my necklace, and she refuses to give it back. It's a matter of principle." She told me.

"All right. Well, I'll tell Elena I tried so she can get off my back." I said.

"Good. Your turn. Where's Stefan? Has Elena talked to him?" Caroline asked me.

"He's avoiding her." I told her.

"Why?" she asked me confused.

"She says it's complicated." I told her as the bell rang. "I'll see you later." I told her moving quicker to the door.

"Bye." She said waving me off.

"Hey." Matt said to her as he passed by.

"Hey." Caroline said with a smile on her face. She watched him walk away disappointed before walking into the building.

In history class, I sat in my seat getting myself ready as Bonnie rushed in after a man with a large bag.

"Good Morning everyone. Alrighty." He said before placing the bag down and writing his name on the chalkboard.

"Alaric Saltzman. It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origins. My family immigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston. Now the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough. You'll probably want to pronounce "Alaric" but it's "Alaric," okay? So, you can call me Rick. I'm your new history teacher." He introduced before starting the lesson.

At the Boarding House, Stefan woke up to see Damon in his room with coffee.

"Rise and shine!" Damon said holding out the coffee to him. "You'll be late for school."

"What? What are you doing?" Stefan asked him.

"Peace offering. Come on, you need it for blood circulation. Does dead flesh good!" Damon told his brother. Stefan gave him a look and Damon sighed. "All right. I'm sorry."

"Step aside, please." Stefan said moving past him.

"I got the town off our back." Damon said trying to convince Stefan that killing Lexi was a good thing. "It was for the greater good, but I'm sorry. And, to prove it, I'm not gonna feed on a human. For at least a week. I'll adopt a Stefan diet! Only nothing with feathers."

"'Cause I realize that killing your closest and oldest friend is beyond evil, and yet somehow, it's worthy of humor." Stefan said mocking Damon.

"Are you mimicking me?" Damon asked him amused.

"Yes, Stefan. Now that the secret society of vampires haters is off our back, I can go back to my routine of "How can I destroy Stefan's life this week?"" Stefan continued to mock.

"And I can go back to sulking and Elena-longing and forehead brooding." Damon mocked before laughing. "This is fun! I like this."

"And I will finally reveal the ulterior motive behind my evil and diabolical return to Mystic Falls." Stefan mocked looking to his brother who thought for a moment.

"Yeah. I'm done." He said before turning to leave. ""That's just like you, Damon. Always have to have the last word.""

At the High School, Bonnie was explaining to Elena about her dreams since she was the only one who knew she was a witch.

"And then, I ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods." Bonnie told her.

"And you always see your ancestor Emily?" Elena asked her.

"Mhm. Do you believe in ghosts?" Bonnie asked.

"Two weeks ago I'd say no, but now..." Elena dropped the sentence.

"Because I think I'm being haunted." Bonnie told her.

"I don't get it. Why Emily?" Elena asked her.

"Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and that this medallion was hers. A witch's talisman." Bonnie said showing her the necklace.

"And it all started when you got the necklace?" Elena asked her.

"I think she's using it to communicate with me." Bonnie told her.

"Okay, what does Grams say about it?" Elena asked.

"I can't call her. She's gonna tell me to embrace it. I don't want to embrace it, I want it to stop." Bonnie told her. Elena.

In the history classroom. Jeremy walked into Alaric's class, who is eating his lunch at his desk.

"Hey Mr. Saltzman, I'm Jeremy Gilbert. You wanted to see me?" Jeremy asked him. Alaric nodded and motioned him inside as he finished his bite.

"You know that your old teacher had a jackass file? No joke." He said holding up the file. "It's typed on a label. It has all the troublemakers in it. But really it's just an opus- to you." Jeremy looked at him in alarm, thinking of a way to explain himself. "Don't worry about it." Alaric threw the file in the trashcan shocking Jeremy. "I'm not him. Clean slate. Now...let's talk about grades." He said sitting on his desk.

"I know it's been a rough couple of months, but I've been trying to turn them around." Jeremy told him.

"Yeah, I saw that. But, the problem is, we're halfway through a semester and half a fail is still pretty bleak." Alaric told him, pausing a beat. "This is the part where you say to me, "But what can I do to change that?" I'm glad you asked! How do you feel about extra credit?"

"Yeah, yeah, totally! Whatever." Jeremy said nodding his head.

"Good! Write me a paper, then." Alaric told him.

"Okay. About what?" Jeremy asked.

"History. Pick a topic, keep it local, and no Wikipedia-regurgita. These old towns have a rich history, so just get your hands dirty, make it sing and your back on track. Deal?" Alaric asked him.

"Yeah. Deal." Jeremy said enthusiastically while shaking Alaric's head. "That's a cool ring."

"Oh, thanks. It was my father's. A little garish, but family, you know?" Alaric said awkwardly before returning to the original topic. "You've got a week."

Caroline was walking with some friends when Matt passed by in front of her.

"Hey." He greeted.

"Hey, what is that?" she asked stopping him. Her friends looked at her before walking on without her.

"What is what?" Matt asked her confused.

"The "hey!" That's twice. That is two heys. That-do you have any other words in your vocabulary?" she asked him snippy.

"What's wrong with "hey"?" he asked her confused.

"It reeks of awkward subtext. You spent the night in my bed! There was cuddling! And then, you snuck out before dawn so you wouldn't have to face me, which I must say is a total Lame-Guy move that I did not appreciate. And now with the "hey"s? Seriously? I mean, I may have been some pathetic, insecure mess after the party, but do not mistake that for me being a pushover, because I do not let guys mess with my head anymore." She told him.

"I heard your mom in the morning, and I didn't want to get you in trouble. So, I went out the window." He told her.

"You went out the window? Another Lame-Guy move." Caroline said.

"Your mom's the sheriff! And as for the "hey"s, I'm pretty sure it's what I've said to you every day since the first grade. Trying to read something into it? Lame-Girl move." He told her before leaving. She watched him walk away from her.

Elsewhere outside the school, Elena and I walked out of the school to see Stefan sitting at a picnic table and walked over to join him.

"Hi." He greeted.

"You weren't in class, I was worried." Elena told him.

"Yeah, I got your messages, and I'm sorry I didn't get back to you, but what I wanna say shouldn't be said over the phone." Stefan told her.

"A simple "I didn't kill my brother" text would have been nice." I told him.

"I didn't kill my brother, as much as he deserved it. He has you to thank you for that." He told me and I smiled.

"So, what did you wanna tell me?" Elena asked him.

"I won't be coming to school anymore. I'm gonna back off and keep my distance. It's the right thing to do." He told her.

"Back off from school or from me?" she asked him and the silence got awkward so I snuck away from them. "Thank you for telling me."

"It's better this way." he insisted.

"Yep. I got it." She told him.

"You're angry. That's good. It'll be easier if you hate me." He told her before walking away.

In the parking lot, Bonnie was walking to her car. Once she reached it, she ran into Damon.

"Okay, it's your last chance." He told her.

"I'm gonna scream." She told him scared while moving past him.

"Oh no, don't do that. Let's stay on point. I want my necklace." He told her walking with her to her car.

"You can't have it." Bonnie told him.

"I can't take it, but you can give it to me. I'm trying to help you, here." He told her.

"I don't want your help." She told him.

"You do want my help, and you don't even know it. You know why, you little witch? 'Cause you've stumbled into something you need to stumble out of." He said.

"Just leave me alone or I swear—" he leaned into the driver's side door of her car before she could get in.

"Don't! No threats. Look, A, you hurt me last time. B, I wish you no harm. Believe it or not, Bonnie, I wanna protect you. Let me help you get Emily off your back." He told her and she looked at him confused.

"How do you know about her?" she asked him.

"I know a lot of things, and I know more about that crystal than you do, and I know that she's using it to creep inside of you. See how scared you are? And, you should be, because I will get that crystal, even if I have to wait for Emily to give it to me herself. So, next time she comes out to play, you tell her that a deal's a deal." Damon opened her car door for her and once she was inside it, he closed it for her.

I made my way to Caroline's car when I saw Damon in the parking lot staring at me. I made my way to him with a small smile on my face.

"Didn't think I'd see you here." I said.

"I had something I needed to do." He said cryptically and I raised my eyebrow at him.

"Something to do with Bonnie's necklace?" I asked him.

"It's my necklace. I just want it back." He told me.

"It won't look good on you." I told him and he smirked down at me.

"Maybe I don't want it for that." He told me and I looked him over.

"Then what do you want it for?" I asked him. "What could be so important about a little gem?"

"Why are you in the middle of it?" he asked me avoiding my question.

"It's causing a rift between my best friend and my sister's best friend." I told him. "Where else would I be?"

"It didn't seem like you'd be into other people messes." He said looking me over. I was very confident in my white top with a sheer purple over shirt with purple flowers in it and blue jeans with purple flats. My eyes had variations of purple coloring it and pink flowers with a purple gem entering them for earrings and a pink ring. My bracelet was three stuck together. One was white, then a light purple, then a dark purple. A purple necklace on a silver chain completed the outfit.

"Caroline's my best friend, and she's upset about this whole thing." I told her.

"Noted." He said. "You once told me to try hitting on you when I was single."

"So I did. That would also before I found out you were a vampire." I told him. He moved closer to me and I stood still until his chest was almost touching mine.

"That just means somethings will be better than with the boys you were with before." He told me smirking.

"That also means I might have to worry about you killing me in my sleep." I told him. "Leave before Caroline finds you here." I told him. He gave me a look before leaving.

In Bonnie's car on her way to taking Elena home Bonnie told her everything about her encounter with Damon.

"He's bad news, Elena. He really scared me." Bonnie told her.

"You need to stay as far away from Damon as possible." Elena warned wishing her sister would listen to the same advice.

"I'm trying! He just keeps showing up." Bonnie told her.

"I don't want you to be alone. You're sleeping at my place tonight, we can make a whole night out of it. I'll tell Chloe and she can invite Caroline." Elena offered. Bonnie picked up the pendent around her neck and gave it a look before considering something. She then pulled over startling Elena. "Whoa!" Bonnie got out of the car and walked in front of the car. "Where are you going?" Bonnie ripped the necklace from her neck and threw it into a field. "Are you okay?" Elena asked once her friend was back in the car.

"Now I am. All my problems were because of that thing. I can't believe I didn't do that sooner." Bonnie told her.

"What's your Grams gonna say?" Elena asked her.

"Grams isn't the one being haunted by a hundred and fifty-year-old ghost, is she?" Bonnie asked her.

"Okay, then." Elena sighed.

Inside Caroline's car my looked at my phone as it went off.

"Elena invited Bonnie to stay over. Wanna slumber?" I asked my best friend.

"Hmm?" she asked me distracted.

"What's gotten into you?" I asked her confused.

"Matt stayed over at my house last night." She finally told me.

"Caroline Forbes!" I said shocked. "You and Matt?"

"We didn't do anything." She insisted and I gave her a look. "Seriously."

"What happened?" I asked her. "I haven't seen you like this over a guy in a while."

"He took me home after that party at the Grill and we… cuddled on my bed." She told me with a smile on her face.

"You like him." I stated. No need to question what this girl was thinking, it was on her face.

"I don't know what I feel towards him." She told me and I nodded my head at her.

"Well, at least you're getting over Damon." I said, the vampire's face flashing in my mind. "Slumber at my place." I said changing the subject with a smile on my face.

At the Mystic Grill Jenna and Jeremy were sitting at a booth. They were eating as Jenna stared at Alaric who was sitting across the building.

"I like a man who can dine alone. A quiet strength." Jenna commented. Jeremy looked up and followed her gaze.

"I thought you were still in that whole Logan-depression thing." Jeremy said making her smile.

"I've sworn off men forever, but it doesn't mean I can't observe them from a safe distance." She told him.

"Well, I can introduce you." He offered and she thought about it for a moment.

At the Gilbert house as I mingled with Bonnie and Caroline, Elena answered the door to see Stefan on her porch.

"Hey. Thanks for coming. I wouldn't have called if it wasn't important." Elena told him.

"I know that." He answered. She stepped out of the house pulling the door closed behind her.

"He threatened her, Stefan." Elena told him.

"What would Damon want with Bonnie?" Stefan asked her confused.

"She has this necklace. Caroline got it from Damon, and she gave it to Bonnie, and now Damon wants it back. He's tormenting her." Elena explained.

"Over a necklace?" Stefan asked her.

"It's not just any necklace. It has to do with Bonnie's heritage. It belonged to one of her ancestors who lived here during the Civil War..." she told him before remembering something. "When you and Damon lived here."

"Her name was Emily. She was Katherine's handmaiden, and a witch." Stefan told her after a moment of uncomfortableness.

"You know? About Bonnie?" Elena asked him shocked.

"The first night that you invited me over for dinner, I made the connection." He confessed.

"And now Damon knows, and for some reason he wants that necklace." Elena told him.

"What does it look like?" Stefan asked her.

"It's an antique iron setting with a—" she never got to finish describing it.

"—With an amber crystal. I know it. It belonged to Katherine. Emily gave it to her, which means that..." Stefan dropped the sentence.

"What?" Elena asked him wanting more information from him.

"I don't know, but I'm gonna find it out. Let me talk to Damon." Stefan told her.

"Will he tell you?" Elena asked him skeptically.

"I'll get it out of him." He told her before leaving.

"Have you picked a topic?" Jenna asked Jeremy at the Grill as they continued to eat dinner.

"No, not yet. It's gotta be local and non-internet research, so..." Jeremy dropped off.

"That's easy! You've got all your dad's stuff." Jenna told him.

"What stuff?" Jeremy asked her confused.

""How the Gilberts came over on the Mayflower" stuff, all that family lineage from way back. Your dad really loved all that family history stuff. It's all boxed up in the closet." Jenna told him before Alaric joined them.

"Mr. Saltzman." Jeremy greeted.

"Jeremy. What's up, man?" Alaric asked him.

"This is my aunt, Jenna." Jeremy introduced.

"Alaric Saltzman. It's nice to meet you." He said shaking her hand.

"Jeremy was just telling me about his paper. Thanks for giving him another chance." Jenna told him.

"It was my first day. I wanted to make a good impression." Alaric told her. At the bar, Damon was drinking when Stefan joined him.

"So, Stefan...You know, I've been thinking. I think we should start over, give this brother thing another chance. We used to do it, oh-so well, once upon time." Stefan mocked Damon.

"I don't, Damon. I can't trust you to be a nice guy. You kill everybody, and you're so mean. You're so mean, and..." Damon gave up mocking his brother. "You're really hard to imitate, and then I have to go to that lesser place."

"Can I get a coffee, please?" Stefan asked the bartender before turning back to his brother. "So, what's with the bottle?"

"I'm on edge. Crash diet. You know, I'm trying to keep a low profile." Damon told him.

"You could always just leave, find a new town to turn into your own personal Gas 'n' Sip." Stefan told him.

"I'll manage. You don't have to keep an eye on me." Damon told him.

"I'm not here to keep an eye on you." Stefan assured his older brother.

"So, why are you here?" Damon asked him.

"Why not?" Stefan asked taking his drink from the bartender.

At the Gilbert house, the four of us were preparing dinner when Elena gave Caroline a look.

"I'm sorry." Caroline sighed. "There. I said it. If you want the ugly-ass necklace, keep it. It's yours."

"Will you hate me if I tell you I threw it away?" Bonnie asked her guiltily.

"You threw it away?" Caroline asked her annoyed.

"I know it sounds crazy, but the necklace was giving me nightmares. I had to get rid of it." Bonnie told her.

"You could have just given it back to me." Caroline told her.

"Why? So you could give it back to Damon?" Bonnie accused.

"Screw Damon. Are we doing manicures or what? Who has their kit?" Caroline asked us.

"Mine's in my bag." Bonnie told her. Caroline made a beeline for Bonnie's bag and began to rifle through it for the manicure kit.

"So, Elena...how long do you think this fight with Stefan's gonna last? Is it...like a permanent thing?" Caroline asked her with a very familiar tone.

"I don't know, Caroline." Elena told her annoyed.

"Don't try it Caroline." I told her.

"Why are you such a little liar, Bonnie?" Caroline asked her suddenly mad.

"What?" Bonnie asked her confused.

"Caroline!" I said to her astonished. Caroline held up the crystal and I looked at the other two girls in the room. They both shared a shocked look.

"I'm not lying to you, Caroline. I swear." Bonnie told her.

"It's true. I watched her throw it into a field!" Elena assured it.

"Then why's it here in your bag, Bonnie?" I asked her.

"Explain it." Caroline demanded frustrated.

"Emily." Bonnie told Elena.

"Who's Emily?" Caroline and I asked confused.

"The ghost." Bonnie told us.

"What ghost?" I asked her.

"Oh, the ghost has a name now?" Caroline mocked her. So everyone knew about the ghost except me?

"Caroline, please." Elena begged.

"I wonder why she won't leave me alone." Bonnie told Elena.

"What is going on? Why are we not a part of this conversation? You guys do this to us all the time." Caroline told them.

"That's not true." Elena told her.

"Yes it is, Elena. You and Bonnie keep these secrets from us all the time." I told her.

"She's right." Bonnie told Elena before looking to me and Caroline. "I can't talk to you. You don't listen."

"That's not true." Caroline told her while I looked at her hurt.

"Tell us." I demanded locking my hurt away for now. It wasn't anything I wasn't used to with this family.

"I'm a witch." Bonnie told us.

"And don't we all know it?" Caroline said sarcastically.

"Caroline." I said warning her with my voice alone.

"See? That's what I'm talking about. I'm trying to tell you something. You don't even hear it." Bonnie told her.

"I listen. When do I not listen?" Caroline asked her.

At the Grill, Jenna approached Alaric at his table.

"Jeremy totally ditched me." She told him.

"Where's he go?" Alaric asked her.

"Home. It's not far. He can walk it." She said.

"So, are you from here? Are you a townie?" he asked her.

"I'm a returnee. Left town for a while, now I'm back." She said.

"Why'd you leave?" Alaric asked.

"School. And then there's the real reason. I was wronged...a guy named Logan." She told him.

"What'd he do?" he asked.

"Basics...lied, cheated, lured me back in, left me again. Your turn. Any sad relationship stories?" she asked him.

"The basics...fell in love, married young, my wife died." He told her and she looked at him awkwardly.

"Oh. Wow." She said.

"Yeah, that's always a good conversation stopper." He told her.

"What happened?" she asked.

"Well, you, me and the North Carolina police department are all wondering the same thing. It's what's known as a cold case." He explained.

"So, why'd you move here?" she asked him.

"A change of pace, new scenery. I like it here. It's got a rich history." He told her. Across the restaurant, Stefan and Damon were playing darts.

"Lucky shot." Damon said when Stefan hit the bullseye.

"More like a carefully honed skill over many decades." Stefan corrected.

"You're beating me." Damon pointed out.

"Yeah. It's because I'm better than you." Stefan said.

"I'm onto you. Reverse psychology. It's a little transparent, but I admire the effort." Damon told him.

"You prefer the brooding forehead?" Stefan asked him.

"Seriously, what game do you think you're playing?" Damon asked.

"That's a funny question considering the fact that I have been asking you that for months. It's frustrating isn't it?" Stefan asked him with a smirk.

"Touché." Damon said.

At the Gilbert house Caroline and Bonnie were talking in the living room while Elena and I listened from another room.

"Bonnie. Look, it's just not me. I don't believe in the... "woo woo." But, if you do, then...okay. I'm in. That's all it takes for me to jump on board, because I consider you to be my best friend. And I'm saying this, knowing that Elena and Chloe's in the kitchen listening to my every word. Look, I didn't know how real this was for you, but I'm listening now. Okay?" Caroline asked her. She and Bonnie shared a hug and a smile before Caroline called to us. "Elena, Chloe, you can come in now. We're done." Elena and I entered smiling at them. "There is just way too much drama in this room. So, what do you guys wanna do? I have an idea. Why don't we have a séance?"

"I don't think that's a good idea." Bonnie told her nervously.

"Come on. Let's summon some spirits. This Emily chick has some serious explaining to do." Caroline said.

"I'm in." I said smiling at the two next to us.

We moved to Elena's bedroom with everything we needed. Caroline set it up and we all sat cross legged waiting for, something.

"What are we doing?" Bonnie asked us and I shrugged my shoulders.

"I don't know." Elena told her.

"Be quiet and concentrate. Close your eyes. Now take a deep breath. Bonnie. Call to her." Caroline told her.

"Emily, you there?" Bonnie called.

"Really? "Emily, you there?" That's all you got? Come on." Caroline encouraged. Elena and I shared a look before Bonnie concentrated.

"Fine, geez. Emily. I call on you. I know you have a message. I'm here to listen." Bonnie told her. Suddenly the candles immediately flared stronger than before scaring all of us.

"Did that just..." Elena asked.

"Yeah, it just happened." Caroline told us.

"It's just the air conditioning." Bonnie insisted.

"Ask her to show you a sign. Ask her. Emily, if you're among us, show us another sign." Caroline called out. We all waited for a moment but nothing happened.

"See? It's not working." Suddenly the windows burst open making us scream. "I can't, I'm done." Bonnie ripped the necklace off her neck and threw it on the ground next to the candles, which blew out, scaring us more. "Get the light. Please, get the light!" she ordered.

"Hold on. I got it." Elena said before turning the lights back on.

"You guys, the necklace. It's gone." Bonnie told us and we followed her gaze to see nothing but candles on the floor.

At the high school, Stefan took Damon to the football field with a football in hand.

"What are we doin' here?" Damon asked him.

"Bonding. Catch!" Stefan threw the ball to his brother. "Go on. Give it a try."

"Don't forget who taught you how to play this game." Damon told him and they started to play. Both of them were running around with vampire speed until Stefan tackled Damon. "That hurt." Damon groaned.

"Downside of my diet-getting hit actually hurts a little bit." Stefan told him as they both laid on the ground next to each other.

"I'm impressed Stefan. Fun with booze and darts, sentimental with football, and now? Starry night. What do you want, Stefan?" Damon asked him.

"It wasn't real, Damon." Stefan said sitting up. "Our love for Katherine. She compelled us. We didn't have a choice. Took me years to sort that out, to truly understand what she did to us."

"Oh, no, Stefan." Damon said sitting up next to him. "We are not takin' that on tonight." Damon rose to his feet and walked away.

"What do you want with Katherine's crystal?" Stefan asked him.

"How do you know about that?" Damon asked him.

"Come on. You knew Elena would tell me." Stefan told him.

"How do you know it was Katherine's? Emily gave it to her on her last night. I was with her and Anna before Anna and I went back to my room." Damon said.

"I was the last one to see Katherine, Damon. Now, what do you want with Katherine's crystal?" Stefan asked again.

"She didn't tell you?" Damon asked him.

"We had other things on our mind." Stefan confessed. Damon vamp sped over to Stefan and got into his face.

"I could rip your heart out and not think twice about it." Damon warned making Stefan smirk.

"I've heard that before." Stefan told him.

"I have a bigger surprise, Stefan." Damon told him before backing away slowly. "I'm gonna bring her back."

At the Gilbert residence we were all standing around in the aftermath of the séance, shocked.

"Okay, fun's over, Caroline. You made a point, and I get it. Now give it back." Elena told her.

"What? Well, I didn't take it. What? What happened?" Caroline asked.

"I don't know. Nothing. Jeremy, are you home?" Elena called out going to check on Jeremy, who still wasn't home. Bonnie turned and saw the crystal on the floor in the bathroom and she made her way to it.

"Guys..." Bonnie called to us before the door suddenly slammed shut separating us from her.

"Bonnie!" I called to her.

"You guys open the door! Help me!" She begged us getting frantic.

"Bonnie! Bonnie! What's going on, Bonnie?" Elena called to her.

"Bonnie!" Caroline called out. We pounded on the door as Bonnie continued to scream for help.

"Try the other door. I'll check the hallway." Elena ordered Caroline and she did as she said as I continued banging on the door we were at.

"Bonnie! Bonnie! Unlock the door!" Caroline told her.

"Bonnie! Bonnie! Bonnie! Open the door!" Elena called out.

"Bonnie! Come on! Unlock the doors and open them!" I called to her. The doors suddenly opened and Bonnie stood in the bathroom with her head in her hands.

"What happened? Are you okay?" Elena asked her.

"I'm fine." She told us.

"Unbelievable. You were totally faking it." Caroline said annoyed.

"Caroline, that's enough." I told her.

"No! You scared the hell out of me." Caroline told Bonnie.

"Bonnie?" Elena asked.

"I'm fine. Everything's fine." Bonnie told us. As Bonnie left the bathroom Emily could be seen in her reflection.

"How can you bring Katherine back?" Stefan asked Damon still at the football field.

"Before Katherine and the others were killed in the church, you remember what it was like in this town?" Damon asked him.

"I remember the fear and the hysteria." Stefan told him.

"Townspeople were killing vampires one by one. When they came for Anna, I went straight to Emily, said, "I'll do anything. Name your price. Just protect her." She did." Damon told him.

"How?" Stefan asked him.

"She did some kind of spell with the crystal. And while the church was burning, and we thought Anna and Katherine were burning in it, Anna wasn't." Damon told him.

"But I saw them go inside..." Stefan said.

"There's a tomb underneath the church. The spell sealed Anna in that tomb, protecting her." Damon told him.

"Are you telling me that Anna's alive?" Stefan asked him.

"If that's what you wanna call it. She's been trapped in a mystical holding cell for the last century and a half, but you're an expert on starving a vampire, so how do you think she's doing, Stefan? Did you know that witches can use celestial events to draw energy into their magic? Me either. But in order to give the crystal its power, Emily used the comet that was passing overhead. And, in order for that crystal to work again..." Damon dropped.

"The comet had to return." Stefan worked out.

"Downside? Long time in between comets. And, a couple of hiccups along the way with the crystal, but the comet passed, and I got the crystal. And then Caroline got the crystal, and now Bonnie has the crystal, and here we are." Damon told him.

"Why would Emily...? Why would she do this for you?" Stefan asked him confused.

"Because she knew they were gonna come for her, too, and she made me promise that her lineage would survive." Damon told him.

"I remember. You saved her children." Stefan said.

"It's the only thing keeping me from ripping that little Bonnie girl's throat out to get my crystal back. Oh well, a deal's a deal. So...you wanna go throw some more?" Damon asked him.

At the Gilbert house, Elena Caroline and I were running after an Emily possessed Bonnie, who was rushing down the stairs.

"I can't believe I fell for it." Caroline complained.

"Are you okay?" Elena asked Emily.

"I must go." She told us.

"She's leaving. I'm leaving." Caroline told us.

"You guys can't leave." Elena told them.

"I can. I've had enough freaky fake witch stuff for one night." Caroline told us.

"Thank you for having me. I'll take it from here." Emily told us.

"Where are you going?" Elena asked her.

"Back to where it all began." Emily said.

"Where what began?" I asked her confused. "Bonnie!"

"Bonnie!" Elena called out to her before her eyes widened. "Oh My God! Emily!" Emily turned to us and my own eyes widened.

"I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed." Emily told us.

"Wait!" Elena and I called out to her before she walked out the door. Elena and I chased her down the stairs and tried opening the door, but Emily must have spelled it shut.

"What's happening?" Caroline asked us.

"I don't know. The door, it's not..." Elena started telling her until the door finally opened making us scream as Jeremy walked in.

"What the hell?" Jeremy asked us confused.

"I'm outta here." Caroline said before walking out of the house. Elena immediately called Stefan to tell his what was going on.

"What's wrong?" Stefan asked her when he answered the phone.

"It's Bonnie." Elena told him.

"What happened?" Stefan asked her.

"Emily is possessing her. She said something." Elena told him.

"What did she say?" Stefan asked not noticing Damon paying attention.

"She said "I won't let him have it. It must be destroyed." And then she just left." Elena said.

"Where do you think she went?" Stefan asked him.

"I don't know." Elena told him.

"Come on, Elena." I told her. "Bonnie had to tell you something."

"Fell's church, by the old cemetery that's where she took Bonnie in her dreams. We have to help her, Stefan." Elena told him.

"Just stay there. I'm gonna go find her." Stefan told us before hanging up. Stefan turned to find his brother gone. I gave Elena a look.

At Fell's church Damon found Bonnie in the ruins of the old church, setting up a spell.

"Hello Emily. You look different." Damon told her.

"I won't let you do it." Emily told him.

"We had a deal." Damon reminded her.

"Things are different now. I need to protect my family." She told him, hoping he'd understand.

"I protected your family. You owe me." Damon told her getting angry.

"I know. I'm sorry." She told him.

"You're about to be a lot more than that." Damon warned before attacking her. Emily used her magic to throw Damon against a tree making him get impaled on a branch through his stomach.

At the Gilbert house Alaric walked Jenna to the door.

"You're so wrong. I'm much more pathetic." Jenna laughed.

"Oh no no. I've got you beat. I have pathetic down to a science." He told her.

"Oh no. We haven't even covered high school. Braces, A-cup." She listed off.

"Glasses, skin condition." He said walking to the threshold of the door, then stopping.

"You can..." she started to invite him in before stopping. "You know what? I'm not gonna invite you in. Jeremy." She said gesturing to the inside of the house.

"Well, some other time then. Have a good night, Jenna." Alaric said before turning to leave. Jenna went inside and found Jeremy searching through his dad's family history.

"So, you found the boxes." Jenna said smiling at him.

"I found this, too." He said handing her a photo of her and Logan from when they were in high school.

"Me and Logan. That's just cruel." She told him.

"Cruel is dating my history teacher." He told her.

"I'm not dating him...yet." she said smirking.

At Fell's Church, Stefan Elena and I arrived at the ruins to find Damon impaled on a tree. Stefan pulled Damon off of the tree branch and back onto the ground.

"It hurts. This is why I feed on people." Damon told his brother.

"Stefan." Emily greeted.

"Hello, Emily." Stefan returned the greeting.

"These people don't deserve this. They should never have to know such evil." Emily told us.

"What do you mean evil?" Stefan asked her.

"Emily. I swear to God, I'll make you regret this." Damon warned her.

"I won't let you unleash them into this world." Emily told him.

"Them? What part of the story did you leave out, Damon?" Stefan asked his brother.

"What does it matter?" Damon asked him.

"Emily, tell me what you did." Stefan ordered.

"To save her, I had to save them." Emily told him.

"You saved everyone in the church?" Stefan asked her confused.

"With one, comes all." She told him.

"I don't care about them. I just want Anna." Damon told them.

"I knew I shouldn't have believed a single word that comes out of your mouth. This isn't about love, is it? This is about revenge." Stefan asked his brother.

"The two aren't mutually exclusive." Damon told him.

"Damon, you can't do this." Stefan said.

"Why not? They killed 27 people, and they called it a war battle. They deserve whatever they get." Damon told him.

"27 vampires, Damon. They were vampires. You can't just bring them back." Stefan told him.

"This town deserves this." Damon said.

"You're blaming innocent people for something that happened 145 years ago." Stefan reminded him.

"There is nothing innocent about these people, and don't think for a second it won't happen again. They already know too much, and they'll burn your little grandwitch right next to us when they find out. Trust me." Damon told Emily.

"Things are different now." Emily told him.

"Don't do this." Damon begged her.

"I can't free them. I won't." Emily told him. "Incendia!" the pentagram Emily had carved into the dirt around her was set ablaze and flames created a wall between her and us.

"No! No please." Damon begged her.

"Bonnie!" Elena called out.

"No!" Damon begged once more before she threw the necklace into the air and it exploded above us. Once the spell was complete and the crystal was destroyed, Emily departed from Bonnie's body. Once Bonnie finally reawakened and looked around in horror, having no memory of what just occurred. Damon, furious since his deal with Emily was off, attacked Bonnie making and fed on her making her scream. Elena yelled in fear for her friend while I tried to yell at Damon to let her go. Stefan rushed over to pull Damon off of her before knelling next to her and checking her pulse.

"She's alive, but barely. I can save her." Stefan told Elena and I. He bit into his wrist and dribbled his blood into Bonnie's mouth. Elena and I watched in shock as her wound closed up right before our eyes.

"Her neck, it's healing." Elena said relieved.

At the Forbes house, Caroline was getting ready for bed when Matt crawled into her bedroom by the window.

"Hey." Matt greeted her.

"What are you doing here?" Caroline asked him annoyed.

"Your window was open. I thought you should know." Matt told her.

"Not funny." Caroline told him.

"Earlier today, I lied." Matt sighed.

"About?" Caroline asked him.

"About being in bed with you. We cuddled and it creeped me out." Matt told her.

"It creeped you out?" Caroline asked him. "I mean, did you just come over here to insult me or what? Because it's been a really long night—"

"—It's just that...I don't like you. I never have. But...it was nice." Matt said.

"What?" Caroline asked him confused.

"Being in bed with you, it felt nice. And so, I was thinking about it, and I thought that I should tell you I stayed because you were all sad and alone and I felt bad for you." Matt explained to her.

"Well, thank you, 'cause I love being a charity case. You can leave now." Caroline told him getting more annoyed with him.

"No, because I know! With Vicki gone, and my mom off with Pete whoever, it's just me, so...I know." Matt told her.

In the woods at Fell's Church Stefan finally found Damon sitting near the ruins.

"Katherine never compelled me." Damon finally revealed. "I knew everything. Every step of the way. It was real for me. I'll leave now." Meanwhile Bonnie, Elena and I were standing near where Damon attacked Bonnie.

"I don't understand, Elena, what happened to me? He attacked me, and his face was like..." Bonnie said not coming up with the right word.

"How do you feel? Are you okay?" Elena asked her.

"I'm fine. It's just this blood. I don't..." Stefan approached us and Bonnie immediately became frightened and weary of him.

"I'm not gonna hurt you." Stefan told her.

"What's going on, Elena?" Bonnie asked her.

"I'll explain everything, Bonnie. Okay? Let's just get out of here. Bonnie. Bonnie, look at me. Trust me. He's not going to hurt you. Come on. Come on." Elena said leading Bonnie to her car before returning to Stefan and I.

"Is she in danger of becoming...?" I asked him as Elena joined us.

"No, she has to die with my blood in her system. So, keep an eye on her tonight and make sure that nothing happens, and once it leaves her system, she'll be fine." Stefan told him.

"I'm gonna tell her the truth." Elena told him.

"You sure?" Stefan asked her.

"I can trust her. I need someone to know, someone to talk to. I can't live in secret." Elena told him.

"You shouldn't have to." Stefan assured her.

"You saved her life. I'm sorry, Stefan. I thought that I couldn't be with you, but I can. You don't have to push me away. I can do this." She told him grabbed his hands affectionately.

"I can't." Stefan told her pulling his hands from hers. "I have to leave, Elena. Too many people have died. Too much has happened."

"What? No! I know you think you're protecting me, but..." Elena tried convincing him.

"I have to. Coming home was...it was a mistake. I can't be a part of your life anymore." Stefan told her.

"Don't go Stefan. Please...You don't have to. This is your home. Please, don't go." Elena begged him. He kissed her forehead and I looked down at the forest floor, not able to say anything.

"Good-bye, Elena." He told her.

"You're just gonna walk away? Don't walk away, Stefan! Stefan!" She continued to cry as he walked away from her.

At the Gilbert house Jenna looked at the old photo of her and Logan before shredding it in pieces and throwing it away.

At the Forbes house, Caroline and Matt were pigging out on junk food in her room laughing and talking.

At Fell's Church, I saw Damon siting on the knocked over wall of the church with tears in his eyes. I walked up behind him and sat next to him leaning my head on his shoulder, hand and fingers interlocked with his.

Stefan sat in his room on his bed with his journal on his lap, as though he'd been about to write. After thinking about everything with Elena for a moment, he angrily threw the journal at his pillow on his bed and began to sob.

In Elena's room, Elena told Bonnie everything about Stefan and Damon, both of them crying.

The doorbell rings at the Gilbert house, and Jenna opened the door to find Logan Fell standing on the porch.

"Hello, Jenna." Logan said smiling.

"Logan!" Jenna said shocked.

"Aren't you gonna invite me in?"
