Mystic Falls, 1864

A horse-drawn carriage with a driver and his passenger were heading down a dirt road when they spotted a man lying in the middle of the road with a woman kneeling beside him. Upon noticing then, the woman jumped up and began shouting.

"Please! Please, help us!" She begged them. The driver pulled the carriage to a stop and she went to the carriage. "Please, my husband, he's been hurt! Please help him!" She begged them. The driver jumped down from his seat and went to check on the man in the road. The passenger of the vehicle opened the carriage door and stood next to the carriage.

"What are you doing out here in the middle of the night? It's not safe." The man asked the distressed woman. She smiled at hearing his words.

"No. No, sir. It's not safe." The woman turned and revealed her vampire face before burying her fangs into his neck. The man screamed as she drains the life out of him. Meanwhile, the driver was kneeling over the man's body, but quickly turned when he headed screaming. He saw his passenger's being drained by the woman. He stood and started making his way to them when a second woman appeared right in front of him. Her eyes become red and she drained the blood from the man who screamed for his life. Her twin joined her as she tossed the body aside, blood drenching here chin. "And that's how it's done," Anna told Damon who rose from the ground.

"What happens to the bodies?" Damon asked her looking at the body of the driver.

"Well, I'll take them into the woods and the other animals will finish them off," Katherine told him and Damon looked at them frightened for a moment.

"Are you sure you're ready for this?" Anna asked going to him and placing a comforting hand on his arm.

"I'm ready. I want you to turn me." Damon nodded. The fear in his eyes lessened making Anna smile.

"When it's time," Anna told him. She looked to Katherine and nodded. Katherine took the bodies and disappeared leaving the couple alone. "Kiss me, Damon." Damon pulled a handkerchief from his coat pocket with a flourish and moved to wipe the blood off his beloved's mouth, but she stopped him.

"You should get a taste," Anna whispered before moving to kiss him. Damon backed away from her and she sighed before taking his handkerchief.

"Sorry." He apologized watching as she wiped the blood off her face.

"Don't be, my love. Soon you won't be able to get enough." She told him before kissing him passionately.

Present Day

At the Boarding House, Stefan and Elena were snuggled up spooning in Stefan's bed. Elena awakened with Stefan waking up shortly after her and kissed Elena on the cheek as Elena pulled his arm tighter around her.

"Mmm. Good morning." She said turning to him.

"I could get used to this," Stefan told her before Damon and Chloe ruined the moment by walking in.

"Rise and shine, sleepyheads." The couple shot up, startled by their sibling's presence. Both of them pulled the sheets up, covering anything they wanted to hide.

"Damon! Chloe! Please!" Elena exclaimed to the unwanted pair.

"What are you doing?" Stefan asked.

"Oh, stop being smutty," Damon said as Stefan pulled the sheet further up on Elena, making sure she was properly covered.

"Seriously, get out of here!" Stefan ordered.

"If I see something I haven't seen before, I'll throw a dollar at it. Now listen, we have some very important business to discuss." Damon told them.

"And it has to be right now?" Elena asked giving her sister a look.

"Why not? We're all in the same place and this is better done in person than over the phone." Chloe told her and she threw me a nasty look.

"So, in order to open the tomb, we need to find the journal to get the grimoire to undo the spells. First things first since you are Elena and Chloe Gilbert, you two are on journal duty." Damon delegated

"Since when are Chloe and I helping?" Elena asked him.

"I told Damon I'd help him," Chloe told her and looked shocked.

"And since Stefan's helping, and you've taken up residence in Stefan's bed, ergo..." Damon dropped off.

"You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do," Stefan told her.

"I'll look for it tonight," Elena said before dropping back on the bed and covering her face with the sheets.

"Good," Damon said smirking.

"How do we know that this journal will hold the location of the grimoire? We're really going to take the word of this vampire? He seemed like a bit of a dimwit." Stefan pointed out.

"In lieu of any other options," Damon told him.

"What is a grimoire?" Chloe asked looking at Damon.

"It's a witch's cookbook," Damon told me and Chloe nodded.

"Every spell that a witch casts is unique unto itself, so every witch would document their work," Stefan explained.

"Yeah. Cookbook." Damon repeated.

"What about our mystery vampire? Dimwit obviously wasn't working alone, so whoever's out there knows who we are." Stefan reminded his older brother.

"And I don't like that disadvantage, so..." Damon clapped his hands together. "Chop, chop." He grabbed my arm and started to walk out of the room, then he turned around and walked backward out of the room. "You know, I really like this whole menage a foursome team thing. It's got a bit of a kink to it." he chuckled. "Don't screw it up." We left the room talking about the where the journal might be and after a second, Elena turned to Stefan.

"He doesn't..." Elena started asking but Stefan put his finger to his lips and motioned to his ear then to the door. "Oh, right,"

"Ok." Stefan sighed before starting to get up.

"Oh! No, come here!" Elena pulled him back to her.

"We shouldn't-" Stefan started saying but Elena silenced her by placing her finger to his lips then pointing to his ear as Stefan did. They both smiled and continued to kiss each other before pulling the covers over their heads and continued where they left off.

1864

Anna and Damon were under the covers in Anna's bed and Anna giggled loudly as Damon pulled her to him.

"What are you doing? Stop it!" Anna giggled as she pulled the covers down and Damon popped up next to her, wrapping his arms around her waist.

"Make me," Damon told her. Anna rolled Damon over and straddled him, baring her fangs and hissing at him. Damon looked up at her with no fear in his face, only curiosity. He caressed her face and she placed her hand on top of his, smiling. Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.

"Enter." Anna sighed, retracting her fangs and looking completely human again. She turned her head to see who was behind her while still on top of Damon, pinning his wrists down with her hands. Emily entered the room and closed the door behind her.

"Excuse me, Miss Anna. Miss Pearl is here to see you and your sister." Emily told her.

"I'll be down soon. Ask them to wait." Anna instructed and Emily waited to be dismissed by one of her mistresses. "You may leave, Emily." Emily exited the room, shutting the door behind her. Anna looked down at Damon and pouted. "Looks like our fun's over."

"Hmm, no." Damon nearly begged as he caressed her face. Anna leaned down to kiss him gently.

"Don't worry. I'll always return for you," she told him before rising to get dressed.

Downstairs, Pearl was waiting for Anna with Katherine by her side as Anna descended to them.

"It's good to see you, Pearl," Anna said as she joined the pair.

"Perhaps we could talk outside," Pearl suggested. Anna and Katherine shared a look before Katherine turned to Emily.

"Emily, would you please tell Mr. Salvatore that we've stepped away?" Katherine asked her. Emily nodded before walking up the stairs as the three vampire women exited the house. They walked down the porch steps and across the yard in silence before Pearl finally asked her question.

"How long do you plan on staying with the Salvatores? People talk. You two, carrying on with both brothers, doesn't help the situation." Pearl told them.

"The Salvatores have been kind to take us in. As far as everyone here knows, we're poor orphan girls from Atlanta, lost their family in the fires." Katherine told her.

"A match one of you lit, no doubt," Pearl said making the girls giggle. The three of them stopped at the end of the yard and Pearl looked over at a young girl and shouted to her.

"Honey, please be careful!" Anna turned to see a young girl going over to pet a horse. Anna turned back to face Pearl and carried on with their conversation.

"Why did you rush over here so urgently, Pearl. Surely not to scold us for our partners." Anna said.

"Honoria Fell came by the apothecary yesterday with a case of this elixir." Pearl retrieved a bottle of liquid from her bag and showed it to the twins. "She asked that it be sold at a reduced rate."

"I don't follow," Katherine said looking at her confused.

"Try it," Pearl told her. Anna took the bottle, uncorked it and sniffed it. She looked at her sister before placing the rim of the glass on the palm of her hand and tipped it onto her skin. She gasped as it burnt her and quickly removed the liquid.

"What in hell?!" Anna asked angrily her eyes flashing red.

"Vervain," Pearl said.

"Why is there ver—" Katherine sighed. "—they know."

"They're trying to find us, and they're getting crafty about it," Pearl said.

"The townspeople ingesting vervain? Isn't that inconvenient." Anna said handing the bottle back to her sireling.

"It might be time for us to move on again," Pearl suggested.

"No. I like it here. I'm not interested in leaving just yet." Katherine told her.

"We aren't ready to leave yet. We have plans for the brothers and we aren't going to drop them just because the locals are getting scared." Anna told her.

"Can we go, Mama?" The women all looked to Annabelle. "Is something wrong?" none of the women responded.

Present Day

Anna was lying on a motel bed, her phone to her ear, as she left a message for Jeremy.

"Hey, it's me again. Anna. Stalker chick and Foosball champion. I'll be at the Grill later if you want, you know, a rematch, or whatever." Anna said as Ben exited the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist. He looked over at Anna as he dried his hair with another towel and Anna hung up the phone.

"Who are you calling?" he asked her.

"Jeremy Gilbert."

"You're not, like, into him, are you?"

"I need him for something. Get over it." Anna told him as he walked over to the window. He pulled the curtain back and the sun burned him making his skin smoke and he reacted quickly to it.

"Oh! Mmm! Damn it!" He said cowering back in the darkness.

"Dude, you gotta stop doing that." Anna laughed.

"I know. I just-I keep forgetting." Ben told her.

"You're new. You'll get it," she told him. Ben saw the open journal lying next to Anna and picked it up. He lied in the bed next to her as he examined the contents.

"You found the Gilbert journal?" he asked.

"Does that look like the Gilbert journal?" she asked him.

"Well, it's old and musty, and how am I supposed to know the difference?" he asked her.

"I don't know, I figured maybe, just maybe, you've been paying a little bit of attention since we met." she said.

"You know, you don't have to talk down to me." he scoffed. "I'm not stupid." Anna got up and walked over to the mini-fridge. She extracted a bottle of blood and walked back over to Ben, sitting down on the edge of the bed, and handed him the blood.

"Here. Drink. I don't want you getting itchy around the witch. She can sense if you're weak." Anna told him. He uncapped the bottle and gulped down the blood. He scrunched his face up as he examined the bottle.

"When can we go hunting again? This tastes old. I want fresh blood." Ben complained.

"When we get that tomb open, you can kill anyone you want. For now, just stay focused on Bonnie while I try to get the journal back from Jeremy's teacher." Anna told him.

"Why did you choose me?" he asked.

"I needed someone in a position to be my eyes and ears. Small town bartender fit the bill," she told him.

"There are plenty of bartenders to choose from. Why me?"

"You were sad, Ben. You lacked purpose. You needed me."

Elena was combing through boxes of old family memorabilia as Stefan sat at the breakfast bar, watching her.

"Do you think Damon really believes us? That we're both trying to help him?" Elena asked him finally.

"I don't think Damon knows what to believe. Trust isn't something that comes naturally to him." Stefan told her.

"He seems to trust Chloe enough to help her." Elena pointed out. "You know...I really think that Damon believes that everything he's done, every move that he's made, he's done for love. It's twisted, but kind of sad."

"There are other ways to get what you want. You don't have to kill people. Damon has no regard for human life. He enjoys inflicting pain on others." Stefan reminded her. "For 145 years, every single time that I have let my guard down and let Damon back into my life, he's done something to make me regret that. I'm not going to make that mistake again."

"So what do you think will happen if the tomb gets opened and Damon gets Anna back?" Elena asked.

"I think that no matter what Damon promises, a lot of people will die," Stefan answered causing Elena to exhale loudly before picking up a photo from the box. Stefan got up and stood behind her, examining the photo. "That's Johnathan Gilbert." Elena moved the picture to see a box and looked at it confused.

"What's this?" she opened up the wooden box to reveal a muzzle. Stefan straightened up, instantly recognizing the device, but before he could explain what it was Jeremy entered the room.

"What are you guys doing?" Jeremy asked them.

"Hey. Just going through some stuff, feeling sentimental. Dad had this old family journal from years ago. I thought I'd dig it up." Elena lied as Jeremy sat down on the counter.

"Johnathan Gilbert's journal?" he asked her.

"Yeah, what do you know about it?" Elena asked.

"I just did a history report on it," Jeremy told her.

"Oh. So where is it now?" Elena asked.

"I gave it to Mr. Saltzman. He wanted to see it." Jeremy said and the couple exchanged looks.

Chloe was looking through Giuseppe's journal while Damon came up with a plan to make sure he'd get the Gilbert journal from Stefan and Elena.

"You dad sure did write a lot." Chloe commented as she read.

"Not about anything important." Damon said and Chloe looked over the book to him.

"He wrote about you and Stefan you know." Chloe pointed out to him. "He was proud when you joined the army. Not so proud when you left."

"Yea, well, he would be disappointed I didnt die. Thaat was just the kind of guy he was." Damon told her.

"Does it bug you?" she asked and he just hummed his confusion at her question. "That he didnt care. Does it bug you?"

"Not in the last 145 years." he told her. She watched him for a moment before going back to her reading.

Alaric was sitting at his desk, poring over the contents of the Gilbert journal. Only a single lamp lit the pages as he read from them.

I met Barnette and Giuseppe this evening. I saw the skepticism in their eyes when I showed them the compass.

1864

Giuseppe Salvatore, Barnette Lockwood, and Johnathan Gilbert were in the study of the Salvatore Manor, looking at the compass.

"We're supposed to believe that can track one of them?" Giuseppe asked Johnathan who nodded.

"What is it, magic?" Barnette asked him.

"It's science." Johnathan corrected.

"I'll believe it when I see it," Barnette told him skeptically.

"I've been thinking about this church idea. I believe it could work." Giuseppe told him before Stefan opened the door and was startled by the appearance of the unexpected company, who all turned to look at him.

"Excuse me, father. I didn't know you had guests." Stefan said.

"We'll be done in a few minutes, son." Giuseppe dismissed.

"I'll come back. Forgive me, Mr. Gilbert, Mr. Lockwood." Stefan shut the door as he left.

"Have you told them?" Johnathan asked him.

"Not yet," Giuseppe told him.

"Giuseppe, we need all the men we can get." Johnathan reminded him.

"I'll tell them. You can count on both my boys." Giuseppe assured both men.

Present Day

Alaric took the journal to the teacher's lounge in order to make a copy after he gave it back to Jeremy. He took the printed pages and the journal off the copier and walked over to his locker to place the printed pages in. Out in the dark hallway, Anna walked down the length of the corridor. Alaric closed the locker and walked out of the teacher's lounge and back to his classroom. He tossed the journal onto the desk and sat back down. Alaric grabbed some papers in a tray and began to grade them. Anna rushed past his classroom with vamp-speed causing Alaric to look up.

"Hello?" Alaric called out. He got up and went out into the hallway to look around. "Hello?" Anna watched him, waiting, from behind the wall. "Someone there?" Alaric turned to his right and began to walk down the corridor, giving Anna the opportunity to vamp-speed into his classroom. Alaric turned around and quickly walked off to the teacher's lounge. He opened his locker again and took out a duffel bag and retrieved a modified blow dart gun. Alaric took one of the wooden stakes and inserted it into the blow gun before cocking it and going back to his classroom. Before entering the room, he hid up against the wall next to the door. Swiftly, he turned into the doorway, pointed the gun, and fired. Stefan, without effort, grabbed the stake and stared at Alaric. Alaric began to reload another stake into the gun as Stefan watched him. Alaric looked down and cocked the gun, moving towards the doorway as he did so. Stefan vamp-sped around him and blocked his way. Alaric looked up at him and Stefan grabbed him by his shirt.

"You shouldn't have done that," Stefan told him pushing the human into the desk and taking the gun from him. Alaric scrambled up from the floor, ready to fight. "Have a seat." Alaric hesitated, but Stefan pointed at a chair, insisting that he did as told. Alaric sat down in a desk as Stefan examined the gun. "What is this, compressed air?" Alaric didn't respond. "Did you make it yourself? Who are you?" Stefan moved closer to Alaric, who flinched. "I'm not going to hurt you...unless you try that again." Stefan handed Alaric the gun, who took it. Stefan pulled one of the desks upright and sat on top of it, looking at Alaric. "Now...who are you?"

"I'm a teacher," Alaric answered.

"Are we gonna have to do this the hard way?" Stefan asked him.

"I'm also a historian. And while researching Virginia, I made a few discoveries about your town." Alaric said.

"So you show up like Van Helsing. Come on. Tell me the truth." Stefan told him.

"My wife was a parapsychologist. She spent her life researching paranormal activity in this area. It was her work that led me here." Alaric admitted.

"Where's your wife?" Stefan asked.

"Dead. A vampire killed her." Alaric told him.

"Where's the Gilbert journal?" Stefan asked him.

"What do you want with it?" Alaric avoided answering the question.

"Where is it?" Stefan asked again.

"It's on my desk," Alaric answered.

"No, it's not," Stefan told him. Alaric looked over at his desk and saw the journal missing before turning back to Stefan.

"It was on my desk."

Anna was looking through the journal, while Ben got ready for his date with Bonnie. Ben stood up and walked over to Anna.

"Anything?" Ben asked her.

"Not yet. Just a lot of gibberish. Yeah, some people just shouldn't journal." Anna complained.

"I thought this Gilbert was the brains," Ben said leaning over to look at the journal. Anna looked up at him.

"Don't you have a date?" she asked him.

"Yep. Wish me luck." Ben said moving in to kiss her, but she pushed him away, not taking her eyes off the journal. Anna continued to read as Ben walked out of the room.

I saw her again today-The most beautiful woman in town, with a name just as pretty: Pearl.

1864

Katherine was whiffing various perfumes as Pearl speaks to her and Anna.

"Have you thought any more of what I've said?" Pearl asked the sisters.

"We'll leave soon, Pearl, I promise. We need to take care of a few things first." Katherine told her.

"You're going to turn both of them, aren't you?" Pearl asked shocked looking at her sire who looked back mischievously. "Anna, please. Be careful."

"We'll all be safe, I promise," Anna assured her before Katherine looked over Pearl's shoulder and saw Johnathon entering.

"Mr. Gilbert's coming. Quick, your cheeks." Katherine pinched Pearl's cheeks with a smile on her face. "Perfectly rosy." Johnathan stood in the doorway and Pearl turned to look at him.

"Miss Pearl. May I have a moment?" he asked her.

"Yes, Mr. Gilbert," Pearl said moving to stand next to him. "I'm still waiting for you to explain that comet in the sky." Johnathan and Pearl left together.

"Your mother has an admirer," Anna told Annabelle with a smile on her face causing the witch and younger vampire to smile as well.

Giuseppe, Damon, and Stefan all walked together across their property and conversed.

"As descendants of the Founding Families, they'll want to know that they can count on you," Giuseppe told his boys.

"Of course they can. Is there any doubt?" Stefan asked him.

"I'm not sure your brother Damon understands the importance of duty," Giuseppe said.

"Damon left the Confederacy on principle. It was his choice and should be respected." Stefan told his father.

"You'll forgive me if I have trouble respecting a deserter," Giuseppe said.

"Well, I never asked for your respect," Damon told his father. Giuseppe stopped and faced Damon, who halted in front of his father.

"Good for you, Damon. Because all I have is disappointment." Giuseppe said. Stefan, feeling the tension in the air, decided to change the topic.

"You said the town is in trouble?"

"There's been too many deaths. It is time for us to fight back and stop these killers." Giuseppe told them.

"Killers? What are you talking about?" Stefan asked.

"We live amongst demons," Giuseppe said.

"You're being cryptic now, father. Why don't you just say the word?" Damon asked.

"Vampires. They exist. And they live amongst us. But we have a plan to kill them. And you're going to help us." Giuseppe said, looking to Stefan, who nodded, understandingly. Giuseppe then looked to Damon. Damon didn't make a move to indicate what he'd been thinking.

Present Day

Damon was slicing a tomato and talking to me and Jenna, as we sat on a counter Jenna with a glass of wine in hand.

"My father never approved of anyone I dated, which only made me want them more. Of course. What about you?" Damon asked her.

"There were a few guys. Logan isn't the only loser I've dated." Jenna told him.

"They ever find him? Or is he still missing?" Damon asked.

"He's not missing. He's in the Bahamas working on his tan. Very entitled, that one. Marches to his own drum." Jenna drained the remainder of her wine. "He's a Fell. They're all snooty."

"As if any of the Founding Families are any better," Chloe said and she nodded as Damon chuckled before pouring Jenna more wine in her glass. She raised her glass to him before he turned around and continued cooking.

"Hello, Elena." Jenna and Chloe turned around right when Elena entered the kitchen. She was shocked to see Damon in our kitchen.

"Hey. Where have you been? We're cooking dinner." Jenna told her.

"Well, Damon's cooking. Jenna's getting tipsy and I'm enjoying the view." Chloe said looking back to Damon who smirked at me.

"Is Stefan with you?" Damon asked her.

"Um - he'll be here soon." Elena said leaning against the counter which Jenna was sitting on and watched Damon with distaste.

"How long have you been aware of me?" Stefan asked Alaric.

"I learned just recently. What about your brother?" Alaric asked him.

"You met Damon," Stefan said.

"Who do you think killed my wife?" Alaric asked him.

"Are you certain it was Damon?" Stefan asked.

"I witnessed it," Alaric told him.

"If you're here for revenge, this is going to end very badly for you," Stefan warned.

"I just want to find out what happened to my wife," Alaric told him.

"I thought you just said that Damon..." Stefan started saying before Alaric cut him off.

"Yeah. I saw him draining the life out of her. He must have heard me coming. He just...disappeared. So did her body. They never found her." Alaric explained.

"Damon can never know why you're here. He'll kill you without blinking." Stefan warned him.

"I can take care of myself," Alaric said making Stefan scoff.

"No, you can't. I can help you. If you let me."

Damon was helping me set up the table and placed food on the table before heading back to the kitchen. Chloe was taking plates towards the table when Damon deliberately bumped into me.

"Whoa. Mmm." Damon said and Chloe smiled at him.

"Seriously?" Elena asked annoyed and shaking her head. Chloe sighed before continuing past Damon to place the plates at the table. "Don't do that."

"Do what?" Damon asked her going back to his cooking.

"You know what. That move was deliberate." Elena said pointing at where he bumped into me.

"Well, yeah, I was deliberately trying to get to the sink," Damon told her and I laughed lightly. Elena scoffed as Damon stirred a boiling pot of water. "Speaking of Stefan, where is he? He's missing family night, which I am enjoying immensely." Damon sent a smirk to me and Chloe smiled at him as Chloe walked into the kitchen to gather more dinnerware. Damon paused briefly before changing the topic.

"Is it real?" Damon asked sending me a look.

"Is what real?" Elena asked him.

"This renewed sense of brotherhood," Damon said taking the spoon out of the pot and tasting the sauce. "Can I trust him?"

"Yes, you can trust him," Elena assured him watching her sister as she placed the napkins on the table. Damon vamp-sped over to her and Elena turned around and looked up at him.

"Can I trust him?" Damon asked her again. Elena just stared up at him.

"I'm wearing vervain, Damon. It's not going to work." Elena told him.

"Just answer the question, Elena," Chloe told her.

"I'm not compelling you. I just want you to answer me. Honestly." Damon told her.

"Of course you can," Elena said moving around Damon and back into the kitchen. Chloe and Damon shared a look before going back to what they were doing.

1864

"You can trust us, Mr. Salvatore. We would never cheat." Katherine told Giuseppe as they played croquet in the garden. Anna was sitting close by watching the two of them. Katherine hit the ball with her mallet, knocking it through the bridge. Giuseppe sighed and Katherine giggled devilishly as Damon and Stefan approached the trio.

"I'm losing over here. Again!"Giuseppe told his sons before taking his turn at the game. Katherine curtsied to Damon and Stefan and the boys stopped walking to observe the game.

"She's good. I almost believe she genuinely likes him." Damon told his brother.

"Perhaps she does," Stefan suggested making his brother scoff.

"They both know father would have them killed if he knew the truth." Damon reminded him.

"Not if we talk to him; explained how we feel. He could help us keep them safe." Stefan suggested making Damon quickly turn his body towards Stefan and face him fully.

"Have you gone mad? No, no, father would drive the stake in them himself!" Damon told him.

"That's not true. We can trust him." Stefan told him.

"No, no, not with this. Please, promise me you won't tell him, Stefan." Damon begged gripping his shoulder. Anna and Katherine were watching them from across the garden, smiles faltering as the boys looked at them.

"I promise."

Present Day

"There was a time when I trusted him more than anyone," Damon revealed to the twins.

"Trust breeds trust. You have to give it to get it." Elena told him.

"Did you just hear what he said?" Chloe asked her.

"Are you lecturing me?" Damon asked.

"Do you need to be lectured?" Elena asked placing her hand on her hip.

"I just want her back. I'm sure you can understand that." Damon told her.

"I can understand that you would do anything for her, yes," Elena said walking past Damon to place a bowl on the table.

"Then you understand what I will do if anyone gets in my way." Damon threatened close behind her back before walking away. Elena moved away from the kitchen finally and Chloe turned her full attention to Damon.

"What happened?" she asked him.

"I don't know what you mean." he told her.

"The last time you trusted Stefan. What happened?" she asked him again.

"I lost the only thing that mattered to me," he told her and she looked down at her hands.

Later on, Damon and Jeremy were sitting in the family room playing a video game.

"You said you never played this thing before," Jeremy complained.

"I'm a fast learner. Quick reflexes." Damon said before Jeremy's phone went off. He paused the game and took out his phone, but ignored the call before tossing his phone aside and unpaused the game. "Who are you dodging?"

"This girl Anna. She can be, uh, persistent." Jeremy said.

"Is she hot?" Damon asked.

"Yeah, yeah, but she can be weird," Jeremy informed him.

"Hot trumps weird, trust me," Damon told him imparting important woman wisdom. Jeremy smiled and laughed as, in the kitchen, Jenna, Chloe, and Elena spoke with Damon eavesdropping in on their conversation with his vampire hearing.

"He is ridiculously hot!" Jenna whispered making Elena shush her, Chloe smile, and Damon smirk.

"He's an ass." Elena pointed out making Damon roll his eyes.

"At least he's comfortable with who and what he is." Chloe pointed out, but Elena just shook her head as the twins continued going through the box with Jenna's help

"What are you doing with all this stuff?" Jenna asked them and they shared a small look.

"I thought there might be something about our birth parents." Elena lied.

"Have you told Jeremy?" Jenna asked them.

"We will. When the time is right." Elena reassured her.

"We should tell him now instead of keeping him in the dark," Chloe told her sister as she closed the box. Before Elena could say anything, the doorbell rang.

"That's Stefan," Elena said, changing the subject and going to the door with her sister behind her. Damon quickly got up from the couch and walked over to the door with Jeremy watching him.

"Dude!" Jeremy called out agitated. Elena opened the front door with Damon and Chloe behind her. Stefan looked at his brother, confused as to why he was at the house, then to Elena, who shrugged.

"Well?" Damon asked him.

At the Grill, Ben and Bonnie were sitting at a table, drinking coffee.

"Admit it. I can't sing." Ben told her.

"No. You were great." Bonnie tried to reassure him.

"Come on, I totally trashed a Metallica song," Ben said.

"Well, first mistake, Metallica karaoke?" Bonnie asked him.

"Well, at least I could admit it," Ben said.

"The woman with the tattoos loved you," Bonnie told him.

"Yeah, well, next time, I'm going to throw out my Pearl Jam." he said.

"Next time?" Bonnie asked him smiling.

"Yeah. So, uh, what are your friends up to tonight?" he asked her.

"They're all doing their own thing. Caroline's at her dad's, Elena's with her boyfriend, Chloe's with her family." Bonnie listed off.

"Elena and Chloe Gilbert, right?" Ben asked.

"Yeah." she nodded smiling.

"Yeah, I remember. You guys used to hang out." Ben said.

"Elena and Chloe are two of my best friends," Bonnie told him.

"Yeah, my friends, they all moved away after graduation, and I didn't. So we just kind of drifted apart." Ben told her.

"Oh. Elena and I are bonded for life. I can't imagine it any other way." she said smiling.

"That tight, huh?" he asked.

"She's my sister. I mean, I'd die for them," she told him and he sipped his coffee, clearly thinking about her choice of words.

Elena pushed Chloe and Damon out of the house so Stefan could explain how he lost the journal.

"Who took it?" Damon asked him.

"I don't know," Stefan said.

"You know what, it's that teacher. There's something really off about him." Damon told them causing Chloe to think.

"No, he doesn't know anything. Somebody got to it right before me." Stefan told him.

"Who else knew it was there?" Damon questioned and Stefan looked through the window at Jeremy but didn't say anything. The other three followed Stefan's gaze.

"No. Damon, leave him out of it!" Elena ordered.

"Why, what's the big deal?" Damon asked her.

"If all we do is ask Jeremy a question it's not that big a deal," Chloe told Elena as Damon made a move for a door.

"Chloe!" Elena sounded appalled her twin would suggest such a thing as Chloe followed Damon into the house with Elena and Stefan close behind. Damon sat on the arm of the sofa before speaking to Jeremy.

"So...I heard you found a really cool journal from back in the day. Who else did you show it to?" Damon asked Jer.

"Huh?" Jer asked confused.

"Don't ask questions, just spill," Damon told him.

"You're kidding me, right?" Jeremy chuckled.

"Jer, did you tell anyone other than Mr. Saltzman about Johnathan Gilbert's journal?" Elena asked him calmly while seething at her twin and Damon.

"Why is everybody so obsessed with that thing?" Jeremy asked giving the four a weird look.

"Just tell us who else you told about the journal Jer," Chloe told him.

"Just that girl Anna," Jeremy told them.

"The hot, weird one?" Damon asked him.

"Yeah."

"Wait, who is Anna?" Stefan asked.

"That's what I want to find out," Damon told him as Elena's phone started ringing. Elena went off to answer it leaving the other three alone to question Jeremy. "How do you know her?"

"I just know her. She wants me to meet her at the Grill tonight." Jeremy told them.

"Perfect. I'll drive. Come on Gilberts." Damon told him getting up.

"O-Okay." Jeremy got up from the couch confused before following Damon out of the house.

"See you later Stef." Chloe waved before following the boys to Damon's car.

Elena walked up the stairs and into her room, before answering her phone.

"OK, I'm alone. Give me all the deets, Bonnie. I'm dying." Elena told Bonnie who was still at the Grill with Ben but a bit away so she could speak privately to Elena.

"It's going great. He's a perfect gentleman." Bonnie told her.

"Gentleman, huh?" Elena asked her with a smile.

"I know! Boring, huh? I just want to grab him and lay one on him." Bonnie confessed.

"So, why don't you?" Elena asked her.

"'Cause I'm a chicken," Bonnie said smiling.

"You're a powerful witch goddess." Elena laughed. "Come on, seize the day, Broomhilda."

"Okay." Bonnie laughed. "I'm going to text you later with more details."

"You better," Elena told her before hanging up as Stefan entered the room. Elena looked behind him but didn't see anyone else. "Where's Chole and Damon?"

"They left to track down Jeremy's friend Anna, see if there was anything there," Stefan told her.

"Aren't you going to go with him? If they get to the journal before we do, then..." Elena dropped her voice as Stefan pulled out a stack of papers.

"Doesn't matter." he told her and she looked up at him confused.

"What is that?" Elena asked.

"It's a copy of it." he told her.

"How did you get it?" she questioned.

"Well, Mr. Saltzman made a copy and was kind enough to loan it to me." he told her and she gave him a small look.

"He did?"

"Not exactly, but I got it," he told her and she chuckled before they got to work.

Anna walked into the Grill and spotted Jeremy, leaning against a pool table, and smiled.

"You just couldn't live without me, huh?" she laughed.

"Well, I kinda miss my daily dose of cute stalker chick." he joked.

"Oh, funny." she told her.

"Let's play." the two of them set up the table as Damon and Chloe watched from the bar. Chloe noticed the expression on his face and looked at him confused. Did he recognize her? Chloe looked back at her brother and his friend. Who was she and why was she so interested in her brother.

1864

It was pouring rain outside, Anna and Emily were out on the front porch while Pearl spoke with Katherine and Anna with Damon accompanying them inside.

"The sheriff was here earlier. He bought large volumes of the vervain elixir." Pearl informed the women.

"Did he try to put his hands on you again?" Katherine teased.

"Doesn't he always?" Pearl asked smiling.

"She's saving herself for Johnathan Gilbert," Anna told Damon while linking her arm with his.

"I'm beyond saving. We know that." Pearl reminded her causing the brunette the chuckle softly while Damon looked at the three of them, worried.

"How can you be so calm? They're getting closer to you every day." Damon reminded them.

"We are the respectable ladies of Mystic Falls, My Love. Thanks to Emily, we walk the streets in daylight. No one will ever suspect us." Anna comforted him.

"Not unless a human tells them," Pearl said warningly looking at Damon.

"I'd sooner die," Damon told her

"And soon enough, you will," Anna told him before they shared a kiss only stopping when Annabelle entered the shop causing the four of them to look over at her.

"Mrs. Fell is approaching." the girl told them.

"Thank you, Annabelle." Pearl made her way over to Annabelle and hugged her causing her to smile and laugh gleefully.

Present Day

Damon looked back over at Anna, as she smiled and laughed while playing her game.

"What is it?" Chloe asked him.

"That's a vampire who was here in 1864," Damon told her and Chloe looked back at Anna.

"Think she has the journal?" Chloe asked him.

"I know she will."

Elena and Stefan were still going through

"Here's a reference that he wrote about Emily," Elena told Stefan before reading from the page. "The Fell family believed it should be I, not them, who protected the witch's spell book. But I feared she would haunt me from the hereafter. They mocked my fear, but it was Giuseppe Salvatore who-" she paused. "Is that your father?"

"Yeah," Stefan said sitting next to her and taking the pages before reading aloud. "It was Giuseppe Salvatore who removed my fear. He told me he would protect the secret of the spell book. He said he would carry it to his grave." Stefan looked up from the pages, his brow furrowed.

1864

Giuseppe was in his study, writing in his journal before Stefan gently knocked on the door and entered. Giuseppe looked up at him and placed his journal down.

"Stefan. To what do I owe this pleasure?" Giuseppe asked his youngest.

"Did I interrupt your writing?" Stefan asked him.

"These are the dull musings of my troubled mind," Giuseppe told him placing his hand on his journal.

"A great mind." Stefan complimented.

"Still. I will carry the real secrets with me-"

"To your grave," Stefan finished for him causing the older man to smile softly.

"And a full grave it will be," Giuseppe said before gesturing towards the empty chair next to him. Stefan entered the study and sat down in the chair. "Now, speaking of troubled minds, what's on yours?"

"I have concerns about your plan for the vampires," Stefan admitted.

"And why is that?" his father asked him.

"We are making the assumption that all vampires are as evil as they've been characterized, but what if that's not true?" Stefan asked him.

"Do you have any evidence to the contrary? Do you know of any vampires?" Giuseppe asked him.

"No. No, of course not. But are we to take what others say at face value? You always taught us so differently." Stefan reminded him. Giuseppe got up and went to pour the two a drink.

"Stefan...These creatures are of the darkest parts of Hell. They have the ability to control your mind, seduce your spirit. They are deadly. They must be destroyed." He handed Stefan a glass of bourbon. "Those who stand with them; those who bring shame to their families will be destroyed as well." Giuseppe held his glass out to Stefan, who clinked his own glass against his father's. They drank, but Stefan looked disconcerted.

"I know where it is," Stefan told her with a look of apprehension on his face. Elena looked up at him, impressed with his quick discovery.

Anna unlocked the door to the motel room she shared with Ben and entered unaware of the two intruders. As she shut the door, Damon appeared behind it and Chloe watched from the bathroom as Damon grabbes Anna by the throat and vamp sped her into a wall. Anna also grabbed a hold of Damon's throat in the process. Both of them groaned and made choking noises as they tightly hold onto the other's throats making Chloe roll her eyes at them.

"OK, I give. OK." Damon chocked. They released each other and Damon coughed while rubbing his neck. "Damn. You're strong for a little thing."

"I was wondering how long it would take you to find me." Anna told hom glancing at Chloe.

At the cemetery, Elena was shinning a flashliggt onto Giuseppe's tombstone as Stefan walked around the grave, setting up torches and taking out supplies.

"Why isn't your father buried in your family's tomb?" Elena asked him curiously.

"It wasn't built until well after he died." Stefan told her.

"Are you sure the grimoire's in there with him?" Elena asked him.

"As sure as I could be." He told her going back to the two shovels he brought.

"Great." she sighed looking out into the woods behind her. Stefan plucked up boy shovels and looked at her.

"Elena." she turned her attention back to him. "I can do this on my own."

"And I said I would do whatever I can to help." she reminded him.

"I know, and I appreciate that, but-"

"This town is my home, Stefan. My friends and family are here. You're here. I don't want that tomb opened any more than you do." she tried reassuring him. He nodded before handing her a shovel, which she took. Stefan exhaled heavily and took a moment to gather himself. "I'm sorry that you have to do this."

1864

Katherine was sitting at her vanity, examining a necklace as Stefan watched her from the bed.

"What is that?" he asked her.

"A gift." she told him, watching him from the mirror.

"From one of your many suitors?"

"From Emily, actually. And when will you stop worrying about other men?" Katherine rose from her seat and walked back to Stefan, placing a shawl around her shoulders.

"I want you all to myself." he told her.

"Just as they want me, but Anna and I are the ones who get to make all the rules." she reminded him.

"And why is that?" he asked her.

"Because I'm spoiled." she told him inching close enough so he could finally touch her.

"Yes, you are." she pusged him back onto the bed and he looked up enough to see what she was doing.

"And selfish." she straddled him and oulled her hand out of her shawl. "And because I can do this." Katherine ran her hand up his chest and kissed his stomach causing him to moan in contentment. "And this." Her mouth followed her hand up his chest making him close his eyes and sigh in pleasure. Katherine kissed his neck anand inched her face closer to his face. "And this." Her eyes became red as she ectended her fangs, biting into Stefan's shoulder. Stefan groaned loudly as Katherine held him down. Suddenly, Katherine started gasping for air and pulled away from Stefan. He sat up and looked at Katherine, worried.

"What? What?" He asked her confused.

"Vervain." She told him weakly.

"What?" he asked her still confused. Katherine fell off the bed and onto the floor gasping and choking. Stefan jumped off the bed and knelt down next to Katherine, grabbing her face in his hands. "Katherine! Katherine!" Stefan lookrd up in shock as his bedroom door slammed open revealing Anna.

"Katrin! Glupavo momiche! Kakvo stana?" Anna asked her sister in a language Stefan would hear them speak when they needed privacy. (Katherine! You foolish girl! What happened?)

"Vervain." Neither of them noticed the fourth person joining them until the vervain soaked cloth was over Anna's mouth. Startled, Stefan jumped back slightly in surprise as his father and Anna fought until she was too weak to do so any more. She collapsed next to her sister as the two men stared down at them.

"Go get the sheriff. Tell him we have two vampires." Giuseppe ordered.

"What? No!" Stefan denied.

"Do as I say, son! Nothing that you feel for her is real. They are vampires, Stefan! Monsters! I fed you vervain hoping that it would expose them." Giuseppe explained to his son.

"How did you know?" Stefan asked confused.

"Your sympathy for their plight. I didn't raise my sons to be so weak." Giuseppe threw him a shirt. "The sheriff, now. Go, quickly! Now, son!" Stefan hesitated, lookind down at the twins, before standing up and running out of the room, leaving Giuseppe alone with the weakened sisters.

Present Day

Stefan and Elena continued shoveling up the dirt, digging and deeper into Giuseppe's grave.

Anna placed her bag on the counter and say down, looking at Damon and Chloe.

"How long have you been here?" Damon asked her.

"I arrived around half-past comet, watching you screw up every chance you had to open that tomb." she told him.

"How did you know about the spell?"

"I didn't say much back then, which means I heard everything." Anna smirked at him.

"Useful skill." Chloe commented as Damon moved closer to intimidate Anna.

"So if you've been here the whole time, then why are we just crossing paths right now?" he asked her.

"I like to use others to do my dirty work." she told him walking the room.

"Logan Fell." Chloe assumed and Anna nodded.

"Oh, yeah, thanks for that, by the way. Little bastard shot me." Damon told her.

"Logan was an idiot." Anna told us and Damon agreed. "We slipped him some blood when he started getting all poser slayer with that compass. I needed his family's journal. I couldn't let him die."

"We?" Chloe asked her.

"Yea, Noah, you met him. Before the brothers killed him." Anna told her and Chloe throught about it for a moment.

"The vampire at the Decade Dance." Anna nodded.

"What'd you want with the Fell journal?" Damon asked her.

"I thought it contained the location of the witch's spell book. I was wrong. According to her journal, Honoria gave the grimoire to Johnathan Gilbert. And, according to this..." Anna walked towards the counter, opened her bag, and took out the Gilbert journal. "He gave it to your father. So now you're going to help me find it."

"Why would I help you?" Damon asked her.

"'Cause you and I both want that tomb open." Anna opened the book to the page she wanted and handed it to Damon. He made a noise before shutting the journal and handing it to Chloe.

"Sorry. I have all the help I need." Damon grabbed Chloe's arm and pulled her the motel room.

At the Grill, Ben walked over to Bonnie, the pair of them getting ready to leave.

"Well, the check's paid. I'm all yours tonight. What do you want to do?" he asked her.

"This." Bonnie kissed Ben, but after a moment she pulled away quickly, looking at him with fear.

"What's wrong?" he asked her.

"Nothing. Sorry. I just should have waited until the end of the night to do that." she told him trying to play it off.

"I didn't mind." he smiled down at her making her chuckle.

"You know, I'm starting to get tired." she told him.

"Do you want to go?"

"I was going to say let's have some more coffee, get a caffeine buzz, and, I don't know, go out and do something crazy." she suggested.

"Hmm, like what?" he adked her smiling.

"Like anything." she flirted.

"Okay." he agreed.

"I'm going to run to the restroom." she told him coming up with an excuse to be alone.

"Okay."

"All right." Ben sat back down at the table as Bonnie took her jacket back off. She headed towards the restroom, looking back at Ben, she quickend her pace and glanced back again to make sure Ben wasn't following her. She turnd her head back around, still walking quickly, but Ben had blocked the entrance to the restroom, his face in its full vampire form. Bonnie gasped, but before she could scream, Ben clapped a hand over her mouth and dragged her into the restroom, without anyone noticing.

Stefan continued to shovel the dirt out of the grave as Elena stood beside the deep hole, beaming the flashlight down so Stefan could see what he was doing. Elena smiled and started shaking her head as Stefan looked up at her.

"What?" he asked her.

"Not many girls can say they've done this." Stefan gave her a smile as he continued to dig until his shovel hit something solid, creating a loud thud. Stefan looked up at Elena with apprehension before he scraped the dirt off of the coffin with the shovel and tossed the shovel out of the grave. Stefan knelt down on the coffin and wipped the dirt away with his hands. Elena knelt down to get a better look, holding the beam steady. Stefan opened the lid of the coffin and Elena breathed heavily.

"Is that it?" she asked as Stefan retrieved the grimoire from its cradle in his father's arms. He shut the lid of the coffin and tried to regain his composure, his eyes watery. Stefan stood up and placed the grimoire on the dirt next to Elena. Elena moved the beam on the grimoire as Stefan ripped the cover off. Stefan carefully turned the pages of the grimoire, looking for the spell.

"Well, what do you know?" Startled, Elena and Stefan turned around to see Chloe and Damon, Damon's lip curled up in a snarl. "This is an interesting turn of events."

"I can't let you bring her back. I'm sorry." Stefan told his brother.

"So am I. For thinking for even a second that I could trust you." Chloe looked from the couple across from her to the vampire next to her. The pain in his voice was clear ro anyone paying attention.

"Oh. You're not capable of trust. The fact that you're here means that you read the journal and you were planning on doing this with Chloe." Stefan pointed out.

"Of course I was going to do it by with Chloe because the only one I can count on is her! You made sure of that many years ago, Stefan. But you..." Damon looked to Elena. "You had me fooled." Chloe looked at her sister and saw her look down in shame. "So what are you going to do now? Because if you try and destroy that, I'll rip her heart out."

"You won't kill her." Stefan said confidently. Damon looked to the teen next to hom amd nodded, knowing his brother was right. He grabbed Chloe's and pulled her to hom, her back flush with chest.

"I can do one better." Damon bit his wrist and forced Chloe to drink his blood.

"No!" Elena tried going to her sister, but Stefan held her back.

"Give me the book, Stefan, or I'm snapping her neck. And I'll have myself a vampire girlfriend again."

"Let her go first." Stefan told him and watched as Damon pulled his wrist away from Chloe's mouth.

"The book!" he ordered.

"I'm not going to give this to you until she is standing next to her sister." Stefan told him

"Problem is, I no longer trust that you'll give it back!" Damon told his brother.

"You just did one thing that ensures that I will." Stefan told him. Damon looked at the brunette in his arms before nodding to Stefan. "Okay." Stefan, eyes filled with terror, slowly placed the book on the ground and reaches out for Chloe. Damon placed his face against Chloe's hair, looking as if he might not let her go, but slowly he pulled his arm away from her. Chloe turned and looked up at Damon before backing away from him. When she was close enough, Elena and Stefan wrapped her in a warm embrace. Chloe looked at Damon before Stefan and Elena walked her out of the woods together. Damon watched them go before picking up the grimoire.

1864

A group of men walked across Mystic Falls, carrying torches and weapons with Johnathan Gilbert at the head of the pack, his vampire compass out.

"Make sure the two of you stick together!"

"Go and check those woods over there!" The men continued to talk to each other and bark orders as they made they way through the town.

At the Salvatore House, Giuseppe watched the Sheriff place a muzzle over both Katherine and Anna. The Sheriff and two other men pick the twins up and start carrying them off as Damon bolted into the room.

"No! Don't take her!" Giuseppe grabbed Damon and slammed him against the wall. Damon struggled to free himself, but the men carried Katherine out of the room. Anna looked over at Damon as they carroed her out, too weak to do anything other than reach for him.

"Do you know what they'll do to you if you're branded a sympathizer? You'll be killed along with them!" Giuseppe told Damon, trying to talk sense into his eldest. Damon grabbed his father by the shoulders and looked him dead in the eye.

"Then let me be killed!"

Present Day

Damon looked down at Giuseppe's grave for a moment longer before running off with the grimoire in hand.

Stefan leans against the doorway in the bathroom as he watched Elena who was searching the drawers for an aspirin for Chloe, who was laying on her bed.

"Aspirin must be downstairs." Elena told Chloe who groaned.

"Is my head supposed to hurt like this?" Chloe asked Stefan.

"You'll be fine. That was just a small amount of blood. It should pass out of your system by tomorrow." he told her as Elena joined him.

"Are you OK?" she asked her boyfriend as he rubbed her back.

"Damon was right. This is, uh...this is my fault."

1864

Four men carried the twins to a cart and placed them in it. Damon ran toward the cart with Stefan close behind him. Stefan managed to catch up with Damon and thrust his arm in front of him, stopping Damon.

"Damon! Damon! Stop, stop. I'll help you. We'll get them back." Damon violently shoved Stefan away.

"Help me!? Don't you think that you've done enough? You promised you wouldn't tell him!" Damon reminded his brother angrily.

"I didn't think this would happen." The cart with sisters in it started to leave with Damon and Stefan watching as Katherine and Anna went off to their death. Damon looked at Stefan with intense anger.

"You did this. This is your fault." Damon told him before running off.

Present Day

"I put my faith in my father, but Damon put his faith in me, and I destroyed that. This is my fault." Stefan told the girls and Elena caressed his face.

"You didn't do anything wrong. Don't forget that." Elena tried comforting him.

"Actually, you kind of did." Chloe chimed in.

"Chloe!" Elena started chastising her.

"What? All I'm saying is that if Stefan hadn't hinted at the fact that they were vampires in the first place things would be a lot different now."

"Stefan, don't listen to her." Elena told him.

"No, she's right. If I hadn't said anything Damon would be just as happy as I am with you." Stefan told her caressing her face. "Sit tight. I'm going to get you that aspirin."

"Yay." Chloe groaned making Stefan smile slightly before kissing Elena's forehead and going downstairs. Elna moved next to her sister and tried making her comfortable.

In the kitchen, Stefan say Jenna sitting at the table with her homework spread out in front of her.

"You know you're not staying the night, right?" she asked him with a knowing smile and he leaned on the doorframe as he also smiled.

"The three are just going to hang out for a little while." he told her.

"Even Chloe?" Jenna questioned and Stefan nodded. "Havent seen those two hang out in a long time."

"Maybe they are getting closer again." he said and she smiled at the thought. "Hey, do you have any aspirin?"

"Yeah." Jenna got up and rummaged through the cabinets as Jeremy entered the room.

"Oh, hey, Stefan." he greeted before looking around the room. "Where'd she go?"

"She went to the bathroom." Jenna told him and Stefan looked confused.

"Where'd who go?"

"He has a friend over." Jenna smiled.

"Anna." Stefan finally realized where, apart from Katherine's sister, he remembered that name.

1864

Pearl was watching the chaos unfold around her when Anna walked up to her, looking worried.

"What's happening?" Anna asked her mother.

"Get Emily. Stay hidden. I'll get us out of here." Pearl pushed Anna back and Anna retreated. Stefan was nearby and he watched as Pearl ran across the field toward a horse. She untied the horse's reins from its post when Johnathan jogged up to her.

"Pearl!" she looked up fearfully.

"Johnathan!"

"Do you see all this? The town's gone mad rounding up the demons." Pearl walked towards him and he smiled up at her. Suddenly, the compass needle started spinning caising boyh to look down at it as it pointed towards Pearl.

"You!" he looked at her with betrayal and anger in his eyes.

"Johnathan...please." Pearl began to back away as Anna and Emily watcjed from behind her. Anna tried to rush to her mother's side, but Emily held her back. "I beg you!" he was silent for a moment begore calling to the men behind him.

"I've got another one over here!" Pearl turned and used her vamp-speed to cross the field, but was shot by one of the men.

"Mother!" Anna tried to help her mother but Emily once again held her back.

"Shh, shh!" Emily covered Anna's mouth with her hand as they waycjed Pearl fall to the ground. Stefan watched as they muzzled a struggling Pearl.

"Johnathan, this way!" Johnatham and the other man drug Pearl across the field towards a waiting carriage.

"Shh! It'll be all right. You're going to see her again. I already know how to protect them. I'm going to protect them." Emily reassured a crying Anna as she removed her hand. Anna continued to cry softly as Emily and Stefan locked eyes. Emily nodded to him and Anna finally saw him watching.

Present Day

Stefan ran over to the staircase and when he was out of Jeremy and Jenna's sight, he uses his vamp-speed to cover the remainder of the length to Elena's room.

"Chloe! Elena!" Stefan looked around the room and saw that Elena's window was wide open and the twims were nowhere in sight.
